[Denied] Hunnewle's Station AI Ban Appeal
ClearThoughts replied to Hunnewle's topic in Unban Requests Archive
After reading the ban report, I realize I was actually the raider captain (YARRRRR), Triss Williams, at the time of the complaint round. I must say you were quite annoying to the crew during the time that we were negotiating a price on leaving the station, only to be doublecrossed by the crew and that traitorous cat of Albs'. I would like if you posted your since-then played characters by name and roles. It would help a lot with identifying who you are and why we should support/unsupport your appeal. Yarrrr.. -
The fact that she suddenly decides to get up and go seems a bit weird to me. This shy, timid, person, suddenly leaving everything they know, and even against the wishes of the clan? How did she leave? Why? Why did the clan let her? For such a massive event, I don't think you have adequately described and explained it in one sentence. You have a solid point, and to be honest, that little detail was my attempt to link it all in to how she got off-world and onto a NT research station. Even then, she'd be marked Guwan. You make a solid point, and that solid point is on the flimsiest part of her story. One I am not sure how to resolve. For a clan that values the hand-skills of its members, I am not sure how to both retain her status in the clan AND allow her off-world out of "the cloister". Perhaps a rework of the story, but I would like any suggestions you have to rework it.

[Declined] Tekoro's Industrial IPC application
ClearThoughts replied to Tekoro's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
That moment when Berry complains your character isn't snowflakey enough. I'm dying. That aside, we really want to know more about this character, how its personality interacts with others, and why this character should exist. We want to know how your personality will fit in with the rest of the crew. No, you don't have to be goody-goody two shoes, but we want to know More about the character than just sprinting past you in the hallway. What makes this character tick? What's their personality? Why is it that way? -
BYOND Key: ClearThoughts Total Ban Length: Permanent, issued on 07MARCH2017 Banning staff member's Key: SirCatnip Reason of Ban: I was a shitty antag. Really. It was a traitor round, and I was spawned in as traitor phoron researcher. Yes, I can hear your collective sigh of "Here we go" Because this one is a doozy. I mixed a heated mix of about 7000K phoron and room-temp oxygen, placed three bombs inconspicuously around the station and then prepped a few more. . Maxcaps, yes. I detonated all three of the first bombs at once without prior RP or bomb-threats, and the resulting explosion knocked out about 2/3 of the station population (One between the teleporter and medbay, one in the general locker room near the washing machine, and one in security's visitor room.) and ruined station integrity, to which engineering had an aneurysm over. I ruined the round, killed most of my tator pals in the process, and I knew immediately that I #fuckedup. I should have chosen a different way to antag. I treated it too much like Hippie and not enough like Aurora. I literally sank the ship I was on, after all. SirCatnip intervened and antagbanned me permanently posthaste, and I believe he did the right thing, even if I begged that I only wanted a 2-week ban from antagging. Reason for Appeal: I feel like some roles are just. . Not my forte. Tator, Cultist, and Changeling are all just too stressful for me. I just feel like its that weird in-between where I can't get into character enough to do them well, but I excel very well at other roles such as Heister, Ninja, or Merc. It just feels better when I don't have to compromise an existing character to be an antagonist for the round. . Well, one that isn't already a little silly (HIdashi), though not in any sort of malignant way. I feel bad about the whole ordeal with the bombs, and the previous fuckups in which I chose Game over Roleplay, like when I shot the IPC RD with an ion rifle On Sight as a merc. . Gah. I feel shitty just for thinking about it, But! That's my own concern and sentiments. With my recent meditation over "What does it mean to be an antag" I've set it into myself as a personal epiphany that you don't have to Win as an antagonist to have a good time. Telling a story is what roleplay is all about. I can go win at any first-person shooter, but it won't tell a good story just from winning. It'll just be a wanton smash of destruction. I'd like to be unbanned so that I can enjoy playing the dark side of the storytelling again. To be an antagonist and give the crew something to be scared about, a mystery to figure out and something to fear other than John Thomas the bald assistant with a bike horn.

BYOND Key: ClearThoughts Character Names: Hidashi Toda'keri (SCIENTIST EXTRAORDINAIRE!) Nil'Opga Otyk'Qlalua-Ellu (Ancient friendly Chaplain) Elor'orus Sarnorin-Peiros (Sneaky but quaint Librarian) James Beckett (Hardass Head of Security) Inaaya Vihaan (Transhumanist Artsy-Fartsy Chief Engineer) Qimul-Omal Tju'Yullra (Hardass Security Officer with a temper) William Barterwell (Easygoing Security Officer with a western spin.) Oenel Qilatrieliliu (Arrogant Phoron Researcher) Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Dark-grey Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I'd like to say that before Skrell became a thing, there were lizards and cats. (At least, as far as I remember it), and I'd always been intrigued by lizards. Whenever I played on Yog or Hippie, I always played an unathi because of my personal fascination with reptiles, reptillian xenos or otherwise, never too fond of furred races (Still aren't fascinated with Tajaran, honestly.). This may be in part that I have only ever owned reptiles IRL as pets, and I'm very sure that's a deciding factor in my fascinations. I took my time to read the Unathi lore on the Aurora wiki page, and I must say I was quite entranced with it. It follows an arabic-samurai mixed theme. I detected some themes of arabic tales with bushido-esque moralities. Very interesting way of putting it all together. My favorite read was "The First Prince and the Night Queen" and "How to hunt carp by Sslazhir Yinzr". Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Body-language, mechanics. . Oh, specifically? When irritated, Unathi may thump their tails once against the ground, levitating them to keep them from dragging otherwise, they may chuff air annoyedly, or even rattle the scales and plates along their neck (Which is the most interesting show of aggression in my opinion, and perhaps the least-used.). Their signs of affection or trust may be to bare throats at one another, entangle tails, necks, or otherwise limb contact, HOWEVER hugging is seen as very immature, as opposed to humans whom embrace one another intimately quite often, even as often as a social gesture. Character Name: Gwali Gesska Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Originally an Ourean clan, clan Gesska came into existence upon the world of Ouerea following the arrival of xenobiological species of Human and Skrell, including the therein assisted colonization of Ouerea. The occupation, or rather, enlightenment, depending on who was spoken to, offered the up-sprout of new ideas, including new such names and Clans to occupy this new world. Clan Gesska occupied very little land in comparison to the majority of clan holdings around them, and held numbers in the low 20s. Of course, with each year their clan grew in number, their territory only inching outward in size as their wealth grew in more lucrative expanses with the textile arts, learning much from the interactions with these elder races. As far as political standing, Gesska aligned with Izweski in support of the new races. An integration and acceptance of otherworldly cultures to advance Unathi as a singular race and government. Of course, Gesskan males found their rites in hunting and storytelling during the warm seasons, and held to security and political affairs in the cold seasons. Gesskan females, such as Gwali, born in the later part of the year 2438, a hatchling of celebration as marking a new age for Unathi, one of stellar exploration, were treated to a life of housekeeping and the crafting arts, including pottery and weaving. Clan Gesska was known for a traditionally ash-grey to charcoal-black outer appearance, honing in on this genetic factor to a point of near inbreeding. Gesskans made points to seek out other genetic lines, bartering wives for wives to introduce new genetic diversity into the clan, breeding a specificity of color into the clan appearance. It was not only their appearance that they sought to refine, but their attitude. Quiet, generally distant in speech, observant and cautious. The males were allowed to be boisterous during ceremony to show their strength, but females were rarely allowed to speak beyond the small enclaves that they held to practice their artwork and crafting. The Contact War did only to hinder Unathi that remained on Moghes, turning a once cradle of life into a sweeping cloud of death, setting a century-long death clock on their homeworld. . .But they had a new world to call Home. Ouerea. Gwali, as of the year 2459CE, is 21 years of age. She grew up on Ouerea for the entirety of her life, learning Unathi culture and her place in the world. Each encounter with a traditionalist, setting her into a shy mannerism, only to be countered by the encouragement of New-Age thinkers, encouraging her to learn. The split in thinking caused a bit of an uproar, and thus her personality became one of her clan: Quiet. Of course, these strange new beings, squishy and colorful or pudgy and pale made her curious of what lay beyond this society, beyond the dying cradle that is their homeworld. Were she not so lucky to have been born on Ouerea, she might not have had the ability to breathe, let alone think about leaving. Against the wishes of her Clan, she left swiftly the grasp of Gesska and departed the enclavic Clan, seeking employment elsewhere. With a rudimentary knowledge, yet no sort of degree or specialization, her work led her into menial jobs. A Janitor, contractual work with contractual, even pay, aboard a research facility. . Space Station 13. What do you like about this character? Gwali is inspired by a long-time inspiration of Anoles. These quick little southeastern US lizards are fucking Everywhere. You can get, like, five of them from Petsmart for $20 as little pets. Yes, you buy them in Multiples. You never just have One. They're quick, they dart around, and they have super high metabolisms most oftenly found in such small lizards. I'd like to think Gwali is pretty quick. A bit of a cracklizard. Her movements are swift and agile, and her personality is generally really fast and on edge. She doesn't talk much, but when she does, she talks Fast. She stays out of the way of anything that might be trouble, and I like to play her with a bit of a survivalist role in mind. If I survive, I win. That doesn't necessarily mean I have to win a fight, it just means I have to outrun it and survive past it. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10. I'm getting much better now that I see this server in a light of "You don't have to Win to have fun.", and I think my roleplay has improved dramatically because of that realization. However, I'm still working to get better. Especially at security roles. I think that roleplaying a security role is easily the hardest thing to do on-station. So much chaos, so little time to type. Notes: Interior crocodile alligator, Alb drives a chevrolet movie theatre.

[Resolved] Character Complaint - Epsilion
ClearThoughts replied to DatBerry's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
If it helps at all, I was the Skrell holding "an arsenal". Berry pointed at me, having noticed my character was both a weapons researcher and wearing force gloves, and used code blue random search. It was super effective. I opened my bag and realized that I was lazy and forgot that I had a lawgiver in my pack from weapons testing on the outpost monkies earlier that shift. I didnt want to end up in cuffs, so i made some bluff roles, using my character's IC standing with Epsilon to call the cybork to my aid as the cadet performed his duty. Truly, Berry did a good job, I just didnt want to end up in cuffs (I did, inevitably, albeit perhaps the taser shot was a little excessive as per the Force Continuum. A strong grapple would have sufficed.) And my silver-tongued wrbl scientist caused a ruckus demanding herself be set free from this tyranny. I fully acknowledge that Berry did the right thing in dragging my ass back to security to confiscate my weapons. It was within his right and role on the station. However, pertaining to Epsilon: both XenosTiger and Epsilon have been close friends with a few of my characters, though Epsilon only knew this Skrell of mine, Hidashi Toda'keri, through romantic entanglement of her and a friend of a friend of Epsilon. Very distant link. This was, yea, ill admit, a bit of metafriending, and a portion of end round shenanigans, knowing that nobody could, would, or wanted to do anything about it. My verdict would really be that Epsilon doesnt currently follow the lore we have for cydorks, as I think it would be much more effective to retain MMI personality albeit strapped to a law logic core, but that is not my decision. Just wanted to throw in my five bits. -
Yea. . That doesn't work either. Can confirm. Someone walks up, three tiles away, theyre like "Ohshit save me", you start typing a response, they ask you a question, stun-tali you mid response. The distance of 3 tiles, general speaking distance, can be closed in under 2 seconds. This solution does not work, and shooting everyone who walks within 1 tile of you will get you bwoinked hard.

Can confirm, its kinda silly when the savior squad gets blapped by the greytidey cultist.

[Accepted] Snoopy11's IPC Whitelist Application
ClearThoughts replied to Snoopy11's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Might I ask for a little iteration? Why did Derek want Aaliyah to remain intact? He hated her. That doesnt sound much of any reason to keep the IPC around and not destroy it. Sure, she was sold, but why did NT buy her? Why did she go into corporate hands instead of remaining a servant. IPCs are expensive, after all. There must be some part of her that is special enough that NT would want her. I like the character concept, but I would like it expanded upon. If so, it has my +1. -
https://lparchive.org/Dwarf-Fortress-Boatmurdered/Introduction/ Reference for those who don't know what the shit is going on. Mirk is wanting to have an Aurora Boatmurdered, basically.

OOCly? Hm. Yea, I get what you mean by that. Not a shining feature of mine. It occurs when something goes completely the wrong direction than where I had intended, or when something occurs that none of my predictions of a situation steps in unexpectedly. I will say that I do require some emotional tuning in Handling my outbursts of frustration, and I will take your words with my salt and try my best to improve from there. Who. . Do you play? I'm. . .Not sure I know any of your characters that I can place the Ckey Ornias to.
-
if you mean the announcements on discord, they were made because people were coordinating armed uprising during rounds that nothing had happened, synthetic nor biesel wise. just because of the event's canon, which wasn't enough justification on it's own. now if your character is pro synth and those solarian bigots start selling/executing robots infront of you, you can escalate the situation to the point where you can shoot the marines easily, not to say just to run up to them and shoot them, but starting with protests and into riots. and when in doubt, ahelp. we have trials staff for a reason. Yep. In my post I mentioned that I contacted admoon-men about it to clarify that my character wished to shoot the marines, and got greenlighted. So, all is well. When in doubt, ahelp. Especially if its about Alb's sexuality.
-
I think a lot of this was really the crew not doing anything because "Sol Marines are getting deployed to your station. Dont interfere" And the therefore fear of bwoinks. I think i only once ever did attack the marines and it was with a Lawgiver. There was solid crew Verbal support but nobody made moves as per fear of bwoinks because "Self antag". Hell, even when i Lawgiver'd the marines, i ahelped just to make sure i could do it. I think there could have been a bit more encouragement to the playerbase to get involved with the event. Despite that, I quite enjoyed the event and the excitement it brought. I am also quite amazed at how much effort was put into this. Bravo, admoons. Bravo, lore team.

Astor is a genuinely surprising character when it comes to the amount of gestures, roleplaying etiquette, and general feelings/thoughts put into a character. I have only ever seen one or two above the amount of emotional response that Astor Norton portrays in his interpersonal interactions. As much as people harp on him for not being able to work on synthetic units, I believe he is a well-written and well-played character, which speaks volumes for the person Behind the character. +1.

BYOND key: ClearThoughts Character names: Hidashi Toda'keri - Scientist Elor'orus Sarnorin-Peiros - Librarian Inaaya Vihaan - Station Engineer Baad-Meinhof - Android Qimul-Omal Tju'Yullra - Security Officer How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I want to say off and on for about two years. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I think I've been doing good recently and I'd like to try my hand at a head role. I havent seen an IAA in a long while, and I think a CE other than Hayden or Finlay (Kidding, Kidding.) Why did you come to Aurora?: Heavy roleplay! Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes indeededly. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: So, if there is one thing I have learned and, honestly, yet to master about Aurora is that it isnt always about winning. It is about telling a good story. It being defined as the game and environment set up by the long-dedicated adminery and dev crew. Roleplay is the telling of a story through multiple mouths and minds, all cooperating to produce the most engaging and heart-thumping story we can. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: OoC? I think my first go around with this application i stated that Heads of Staff were people who had access to command communications such as the Command ID Swipes, the shuttle consoles, and the fax machines. I believe that those individuals hold a great responsibility in that calling a shuttle can end a round, calling an ERT can drastically change a round's outcome, or even just alerting CentComm about the situation can greatly improve the crew's chances of survival. I still hold true to this belief, on top of that they are supposed to be administrative paragons of their division. A head of security is an organizer of defense, the commander of the blue shield of the station. A Head of Personnel to handle the civillian district that seems so prevalent on this research station, a Research Director to ensure that the massive budget allocated to Exodus is put to use, a Quartermaster for ensuring the station is well supplied, a Chief engineer to organize the ins and outs of the station functions, and to keep everyone from being irradiated to a crisp.. and a Captain to head them all. A turnover vote for his or her Heads of Staff, and a final dictation of word, and the loyalty-implanted living will of NanoTrasen onboard the Exodus. Nobody cares about IAA. (Kidding.) What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Heads of staff are to be held to a higher standard than other regulars, with the power that they hold to suddenly shift a round by joining in with near station-wide access, an increased authority, the ability to become Acting Captain during emergencies, and the fact that you can directly interact with CentComm via fax machine means that they really do need a standard higher than the average player.. And I believe myself to be ready for such a responsibility, as of making this application. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Inaaya Vihaan Character age: 42 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born on Elyra in 2417 and taken straight to the stars, the only soil ever set firmly under her feet would be the soil in the hydroponics garden. She lived and thrived in a world of zero gravity void. From an early age she sought to dress her body in art. To become a living artpiece. However, art needed funding, and funding was hard to come by. She took up machine shop work, starting off as a welder's apprentice and working her way towards a tech school. Along the way, youthful decisions lopped off her arms at the shoulder for braced, industrial prosthetics. She engraved them from socket to fingertip, a la Dia de Los Muertos out of interest in Mexican culture. The prosthetics became an issue in the engineering field as she took up with NanoTrasen, the switchover to Supermatter reactors causing them to short out at random. Measures were taken to prevent this, moving her away from reactor work and into a career of maintenance, breach-reaction-teams, and station repair. Her casual affinity for welding had locked her into her career to fund her ever-thriving body-art passion. What do you like about this character?: She's very alternative, at least to me. When i originally wrote her, I did so as an experiment to see if I could play an alternative-art character with a focus on the material and aesthetic. It was a very odd concept, to have a character whose mind was centered around her own body, but I think that is what allures me most about her. What do you dislike about this character?: She feels a little snowflakey to me when I step back to look at her, and the prosthetics sure are hard to play with if I have to set the engine alone, but if Im smart, its not a problem. If I could pick one thing that I'd change about her, I think i'll mellow out her personality a little. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I feel like making a Chief Engineer would be a good fit right now for me. I've had my fill of security, of science, and of the civillian division. That leaves the CE, the QM, and the HoP. . .(nobody cares about the IAA. Muahahaha!) Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Id say I came to Aurora with a six. Through altercations with the admins and refinement of the attitude i bring with me when I log in to Aurorajas brought my personal self-confidence to about an 8/10. Extra notes: Headbashing people against walls when?

I think Edgar is useful to have as a researcher, not quite sure he'd do well as an RD. I just dont see him with the administrative abilities. -1 from me, needs improvement on in-character attitude and personality development. An RD is a Research Director, an administrator and overwatch to ensure Directive 4 is both protected and enforced, and to act in the best intentions of both SCIENCE! and NanoTrasen. This, however, is not achieved by just being an amazing researcher.

YES.

I can't praise Xenos enough. They've wondrous RP skills and I very much enjoy the interpersonal roleplay between Epsilon and my character Elor'orus. 10/10, would bees again. I believe that granting Xenos the whitelist for IPC is a good idea, and will just do that much more to improve the roleplay on Exodus. I wholeheartedly support this app.

Neato, you have questions. She chose her career in the medical division because of her influences in her adolescent stage of life. Her driving passion for work is that her curiousity spans the intermingling of societies between the four races onboard the station and how they each react to situations. Frankly, if she wasn't so interested in biology and anatomy she'd be a psychiatrist. So far? I'm actually intending on writing her from the point on of "She is now employed at NT aboard the NSS Exodus" and writing it from there. Frankly? She'll . .Probably be overwhelmed and confined to medical, dealing with patients from case to case. However, anxiety will be a major factor in how she interacts with other people. It will not quite be frantic, however she may be at a loss for words with how brash Humans can be to one another, or how much Unathi can sneer. Astrology, and by that I assume you mean the mainstream "religion" of Qeblak, to which I reply she would in fact be a follower of. Weishii? Not so much, but a big quirk about her is that she'd prefer not to have an android take over the functions of her job, attempting to keep the reliance on a cyborg, android, or robot to a minimum wherever possible in her jobspace. As for "Guided by the stars", I don't think Marabelle would be into horoscopes. However, she would be in tune with the emotions of other people and dictate her living trends off of that. With an increase of depression in those around her, she too would be affected and thusly put down a little bit about her life. I'm really trying to put forward an empathetic, quiet character with a definitive kindness in her warbling heart. On a side note, and related to question 3 about Astrology, if I were to play a science Skrellian, I'm fairly sure I'd make them attuned to Weishii and hold short celebrations for each breakthrough in research they achieve. I think it'd be kind of funny. Please, feel free to ask any more questions. I'd be happy to answer them. Thank you!

BYOND Key: ClearThoughts Game ID: bY4n1f Player Byond Key: HunterRS Staff involved: Made no ahelp. Didn't garner one. Reason for complaint: Bad player attitude Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? It was all really OoC stuff so I'm making a player complaint rather than an adminhelp. Seems more appropriate. Approximate Date/Time: 4:32pm 12DEC2016 (GMT-06:00) What happened? Well, Hunter piped up at some point because Mybadman posted his app, advertising it (Only once, just as rules applied), Hunter saying "Oh well I'll post mine" Which was fine, nobody really made a scene about it, except Pkisbest meme'd at him. . Well, this nonsense: https://gyazo.com/33aab5abc809bc2c0b56ad3dfe466a95 https://gyazo.com/0e84c08d58ed4093ac856d6b864f1234 https://gyazo.com/95df3a55f1dc5454843cdd79df08f167 https://gyazo.com/b56f091bc04533113d5f292a4dfdfbce And then it got worse https://gyazo.com/8a21793b9f94fb80311d974a5660fae2 https://gyazo.com/6d69fdfe23626811624d15acb4806a95 And the bomb: https://gyazo.com/c5735a9413b14350646263ce1edd0340 I'm sorry about the shit ton of gyazos. Only way to cap it without me going through and combing the OOC logs but I prefer to just have it in Gyazo format. Anyway, my thoughts on the matter are that Hunter gets SUPER defensive about ANYTHINg directed towards him, meme or not, and as a result he just. . I don't think he's mature enough to handle Aurora. I'm not asking for a ban towards him or anything, I just don't think he's mature. That's my two cents. CT, out.

If it is any consolation, I spent a good 6 months or so on the NSS Hypatia heading their ERT program, to which i believe i still have their handbook (its like 60 pages. Cant remember who wrote it but damn its a codex.) And can recall quite a bit off of it. ERT was my life for a while, helping people acclimate to the role when the station begins to cry "Syndicate!" "Singuloth!" "Synduloth!" And suddenly four or five ghosts become ERT "squaddies". I vividly remember a character, a veteran trooper greyed at the sideburns by the name Evan Seale giving my then security officer James Beckett shooting advice. "You know those advanced energy guns will vent radiation if you fire them too much" Fully expecting Beckett to set the gun down out of fear of irradiation, but to which his intuition replied, "Not if you keep your fire under control." And thats the overall lesson to playing ERT. Sure, there's cool gear, cool ranks, neat suits, big reputation, but the catch is simple: Keep a leash on things. ERT get things under control when they get out of control. The station is equipped to handle 98.5% of situations they get into, you are there to handle 0.5% of what they cant... the other 1% you dont have clearance to know about. ERT can be deployed for a multitude of reasons: Mass casualty situation, heavy damage to station integrity, critical failure of engineering systems, loss of safety/security onboard due to riot or otherwise code red situation, etcetera. Knowing when an ERT is needed and when the crew is to be evacuated is a major difference. I like to say that if the crew really has no grasp on things, call an ERT. If an environmental hazard (radiation, supermatter, singulo) could swallow the ERT as well as the station? Evacuation necessary. The big portion is to remember that they are not shock assault troops. They may be equipped with quite a bit of firepower, but their ability to repair the station and heal the crew far outweighs their security worth. "We protect the innocent. No harm will come to this crew while we are on-site. Anyone who thinks they can change that fact will learn swiftly why it exists to begin with." Field Commander (ret.) J. Beckett

BYOND Key: ClearThoughts Character Names: Inaaya Vihaan, James Beckett, Heidi McCullen, Meinhof Species you are applying to play: Skrell (Skrellbutts <3) What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Light blue Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yeppers, cover to cover. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always been intrigued by Skrell. The calmer, more intelligent races have always piqued my interest. I love them because they offer a different mindset for roleplaying. Playing a calmer race indicates a level of restraint within the player behind the character. Certain options are cut off in dialogue because of this, but it makes the roleplay more interesting. Skrell themselves are.. . Well they're odd to me. I have always had a heart-on for Unathi because I enjoy reptiles (I own snoots and bearded dagrons IRL) , but Skrell must be one of the very few amphibian races I've encountered.. Ever, really. It's slightly hard to call to mind anything that resembles a Skrell besides frogmen or the TMNT. So I guess that's why I'm most interested in the Skrell above the other races available on Aurora or other SS13 HRP servers. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Humans are VERY diverse. I mean, behind the screen, WE'RE human. We know our culture, we know our emotions. To set aside our emotions and try to set in a mindset of something completely biologically different from ourselves or another human is an endeavour in itself. Something that I've pondered and meditated over time and time again to try and achieve even a simple understanding of the basal instincts of another race for even remedial use in a science fiction roleplay (Non-SS13). What makes Skrell different than humans is a little more complicated than saying "they have a wider range of emotions", and in that quote I'd like to reference the Elcor from Mass Effect. They have quite a range of emotions, but to most humans who smile and frown and laugh and cry, Skrell seem bland. On the opposite end, Humans to Skrell seem a little primitive. A different plane of social and technological evolution. If it were not simply the Skrell having been 'elevated' longer in the technological era, it would be a long staggering psychological effect on their biology as a species from the Glorsh incident. Having been oppressed for so long, followed by the mental scarring of the genophage must have a solemnity to it in their minds. Character Name: Marabelle Quirona'Yarus Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Birthed upon Jargon IV, the city of Gli'morr, Marabelle Quirona as she was at the time was welcomed into a family of medicinal practices, specifically a geneticist male parent and a surgeon female parent. (Insert parental unit conehead joke here.) Being surrounded by the practices and research of biological workings throughout her adolescence led her to choose, not surprisingly, a medical field of specialization. Particularly that of surgery. A something-odd 10 or so years of medical school, followed by pure-Skrellian hospital work upon Jargon IV gave her a solid basis for medical sciences and the ability to expand her knowledge outward from there. She could never really shake the desire to be involved with other races, and as such looked to the stars for her future, as many Skrell had done before her. Heading straight into an internship, she received a sponsorship at NT to work alongside the medical department. Her internship, or should I say four internships, lasted a total of four years, two years "on the table" working with a few different surgeons, and two years serving with a Paramedic to understand how each species deals with shock and surgery, the ins and outs of what chemicals to give and how much of them is needed for a situation. NT was very plain on where she went, where she stayed, living in Skrell-accomodated corporate housing while she worked, and eventually signing a contract for medical work aboard the NSS Exodus as a surgeon, eagerly warbling her way each day to work. Of course, nothing was as she seemed. Her coworkers were. . Different. Of course she'd met a few of each race, Unathi being the most rare of social encounters for her, and her perceptions of each race slowly changed. Humans were anything ranging from near-psychotic to overly gleeful in the face of disaster. Tajarans could be both reckless and solemn almost simultaneously, and Unathi were beginning to look more primeval with each security officer she met. Their precognitions of gender-specific roles sometime gnawed at her psyche, and as such she cloistered herself within Medical, making rare social advances by venturing to the bar in an attempt to socialize, have a cup of tea and then swiftly return to the safety of her sterile white halls of the medical division, under the calm supervision of the Chief Medical Officer at the time. With each day a challenge, Marabelle continues her work in hopes that things will one day feel normal. Until then, each meeting with a Skrellian coworker will only be a blessing to her mood as she adjusts to the vastly differentiating cultures of the four races. What do you like about this character? I'm really psyched up for the ability to play someone. . Well, sort of shy or antisocial. Sure, it may seem easy as a human with their typical gestures and emotions, but to play someone or something that relies on the subtleties of noises to describe emotion is very difficult as compared to expressing it quite verbally or actively as a human by shouting or laughing loudly. To play a Skrell is, well, a challenge. A challenge that I very much look forward to. Thus far I've either had a boisterous engineer (Inaaya) or a disgruntled security veteran (James), each of which actively and profusely displays their emotions through their actions and the variability of their restraint. All in all, Humans are just more. . Lax in terms of the amount of give you have to roleplay with. They definitely have a lot longer social leash than Skrell. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd like to say that I was once a 9/10. Everything I took seriously. For some time I took a break from heavy roleplay and resided in a light-medium community. It was lot's of fun, the mix of action and talking-in-character, but I always had this desire for heavy roleplay. Something that only Aurora and a former community Hypatia seemed to sate. At the beginnings of my SS13 career, Aurora was my mainstay until Hypatia existed, and for the time I spent there, Aurora was a different flavor that I didn't care for. I enjoyed the extended rounds, but as the extended grew sour with me, my roleplay began to fall off. Now back with Aurora, I find myself desiring the intricacies again of social and professional interactions. So, for the time being, I'm rating myself 7.5/10 until I can fully adjust to the mix of action and roleplay. Notes: You guys wanna see some skrellbutts?
