Dismiss the ruling that roboticists cannot do RND
sonicgotnuked replied to Scheveningen's topic in Rejected Policy
It's generally not too regulated. We should have something that adds a little detail. The RD for example can do it. The HoS can also give the release if offered. Perhaps just give a slight edit to 'captain level decision' -
Dismiss the ruling that roboticists cannot do RND
sonicgotnuked replied to Scheveningen's topic in Rejected Policy
The system needs a rework, not a free give all solution to what is the most powerful department mechanically. It's designed to avoid having science arm up 20 minutes in the round. The grind is annoying, myself as a science main, I understand. I also understand why it's still a system. This free give solution only works for a specific case by case bases. Cult went under a similar change a long time ago to remove word research because it was buggy, had little indication of the correct words, and generally locked down cult for 30 minutes or an entire round if everyone didn't know how to research words. This will not work with science because of the sheer power it can have on a round. You can make some pretty scary stuff. If we add this type of system, we would have to nerf a massive amount of content to balance it. If on dead hour, no science, I agree. Robotics should be able to get some protolathe production and do some RnD to upgrade machines and generally help out with the civilian side of thing. What should be regulated and enforced is robotics giving Security a fully loaded Durand with some explosive cannons and heavy weapons during let's just say... small tension, a peace wiz, or general lack of antagonists. Unless you're traitor, merc, or raider, you generally don't have access to ions to be any sort of use against a fully loaded mech if you do suddenly decide to start conflict. Now on another side of things, for compromise, robotics would become fair game for antags. If they show signs of building a military mech? Take it over, blow it up, incapacitate the science crew with interaction and warning before hand of course. All you really would need to tell them. "Fuck with military equipment, you're lab is going to become a hole" In general, something should be drafted up in directive four that helps regulate science. Make weapons and other equipment a command approval of captain level to be handing military grade stuff out. I see it as this. Want to make a display of heavy weapons? Feel free. Just don't let security use it. -
I've seen constant nerfs on both security and antags. The ling arm blade just does blunt damage where before you could actually cut a head off with it. I've spent other traitor rounds spamming a e-sword on someone's head and it never came off. Sharpness was removed from these weapons. Dying can be lame, but I don't see the issue with spending 20 or so minutes to respawn. You can also play mouse and drone during this time. Perhaps we could add other ghost roles. The way I see it: how does TG make dying somewhat enjoyable? They add ghost roles that pop up. Instead of just making everyone iron skinned, we should implement stuff that makes people what they truly are: weak fleshy sacks of blood. Month by month, changes have progressed that removes limb gibbing. It removes head gibbing. I find it actually pretty hilarious that the most effective thing you can do to fight someone in general with melee is by aiming at their feet or hands so any guns they hold are useless. Why did we make bullets due stuns other then internal bleeding? Perhaps give antags medical abilities as well to splint a bone or stop internal bleeding if they get themselves isolated and manage to not pass out. I remember when I blew a fuel tank that was somewhat off the screen and the blast gave me internal bleeding just by the shrapnel and I passed out and died 10 minutes later. Explosions should be damaging and rip you apart. I remember rounds which I enjoyed that involved a shotgun blowing my head off. What happened to this? If you're unarmoured and blindly rush into an area alone to shoot McBaldAntag and pops out and blows your brains out, you should be dead. I also one time put a grenade in someones chest and later blew it up and they still survived despite opening up the turf to astroid turf bellow. It has more power on the ground then against the person standing above it. We should tweak explosions that instead of gibbing, they will destroy limbs and have a chance to rip off your head. It's a lot better to find a mangled corpse that bled out in under a minute then to find a pile of clothes and some organs laying around. I remember before the revolver nerf when I shot up the bartender. It added a lot more interaction when he was a mangled corpse missing an arm and leg then just wheel to medical and be fine after 10 minutes of treatment. In general, what games do that involve dire consequences when you die, they give you a chance to learn. "Oh, that's how my base was raided in rust." There are countless games that punish you. Games that erase your entire character after you've spent 10 hours farming gear for. We should stop jumping on every nerf because of salt. We should stop freaking out and mashing the ahelp when a round has interaction and you died because you've decided to try and chase the ninja down with a fire extinguisher. Not all antags are shit when it comes to killing and we should have something that makes antags less paranoid to actually kill people. We also need to get rid of the silly 'killing is bad mentality'. Yes, I've been pretty guilty of this, but it's something that needs to be gone. Killing should be a tool to drive fear of death. Hell, if the round is nearly two hours in, who the hell cares if you die. It'll end.

Bringing this back up. Now bomb making does not have to be simply bound to grenades and toxins. If you're creative with atmospherics and pull some coolent from the engine, that can be a bomb. All you need is the actual valve and boom. You can also attach two signalers together to a battery for a makeshift radio jammer. The longer the battery life, the more time it'll jam suit sensors and headsets.

Right, I'm going to put this here because I was the traitor and I feel like this is warranted. I'm not going to go into any further details. I'll also clear up any confusion with my gimmick and the ambition. Me stating that I'm going to go one a terrorizing spree did not equal me stating I was going to shoot up people. I could for all intensive purposes aim guns at everyone without ever firing a bullet to pull the same effect while gloating about how stacked I was. Yes, I got shot up by security, and I knew it was deserved. No, shooting up the station wasn't my plan. I was planning on doing a power flex. I only claimed "Oh good! Because I'm a psychopath!" when the janitor asked me to get shot. I understand the frustration, and I'm sorry if I failed to provide you with any sort of experience. I probably should of not EMAGGed the borgs. I spent too long preparing mechs and suits and was more focused on the research staff then the borgs I emagged. Yes, I've failed to include the borgs. Yes, I spent too long actually preparing and maneuvering through the restrictions of science when I was a scientist convincing everyone we should build military grade mechs. I did apologies in the round as well. Not all my gimmicks are perfect representations and I did fail spectacularly at the end. It wasn't a good round in my part and I wanted to at least get something in the end with a sort of power flex for the crew to respond to. I honestly planned on shooting a few windows until the janitor offered himself to be shot.

At least when I played 3 years ago, the only reason APCs did not malf explode was from the insane amount of time the research took. It is the same code. But yes, malf gotten better. -
Right, I went through my own posts to reflect on what I've put down. I admit, I was rather heated at the time and jumped on the 'ban burger' train then I shortly went into a hiatus about a month later. Is that your fault? No. Did I disagree with you a lot? Yes. Did I personally see your character as a bad light? Yes. I remember instances in OOC during that time where I went off whenever some of your code was mentioned and I disagreed with a certain section. My posts inside your ban request while not directly trying to attack your character in my regards, is still something I should've kept out of. Going into recently, I understand how due to past experiences, what I said on discord regarding the body horror fetish stuff may have been put into a context of passive aggressive. I see that now, but it wasn't my intention nor have I personally felt hatred recently. Regarding your suggestions, I don't exactly know where I've ever attacked you other then disagreement. Yes, I disagree a lot with you. I have to work on keeping in mind how the lack of tone inside text can be portrayed. If you want to ever have a conversation with me Burger (You don't have to, because I know that you feel like I'm hostile) I'll be up for it. Thanks for the feedback though, because yes, I do have some flaws. Honestly, I miss the old times where we discussed phoron salt temps. I actually want to repair my feelings towards you and your feelings towards me.
-
I don't feel like I've exactly taunted you because I placed a bad example. It was my bad I posted in the ban fourms six months ago regardless. Can you please explain how I've been passive aggressive when you've came back? I really did need a break from this game, which I took, and I don't personally hold anything against you since you've came back. Examples? I need to know what I've posted so I can understand when. I don't personally remember me ever showing hostilities other then disagreement inside a suggestion fourm.

Remove radio interception from Mercs and Heisters
sonicgotnuked replied to Snoopy11's topic in Archive
Disabling t-comms should never be a "oh they can do this instead." Tcomms is a highly important aspect of a round and disabling it can cause the quality of the round to drop. Yes, there may be some who just wrench up the sec server, but most of the time will be a TTV and done. Last time I checked, t-comm machine construction is still bugged (where it doesn't work at all) -
Memey and I've straight after placed a suggestion on the fourms to nerf the drones by making them entities instead of items. Did I cheese them? Frankly yes. Was it warranted? Depending on who you ask. The raiders did hijack science and put a gun to our heads. Would I ever do it again? No, I wouldn't.

EvilBrage - Poor Malf Play
sonicgotnuked replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
We can be going back and forward all week with this, I've stated my points. This could've solved with an ahelp but sadly there were no staff online who witnessed the round. At this point, it's best to let the staff run through the logs and determine if Brage was right or wrong. I alone can not do that because I have a limited perspective of well... myself. That's why I'm not speaking for anyone who was also vocal in d-chat about the round. I'm not making a complaint just to get a malf ban or whatever, I'm making it to solve a loose ahelp that didn't go unsolved. I guess people involved with the round are welcome to bring up any other points. That's all this is about. May claim if this is right or wrong, that's what staff are here to decide. I feel like I got ganked. That's the main summery of the complaint. If staff feel like you're in the right, I'm honestly perfectly fine with that. -
I'm willing to teach people ICly when I have the spare time (not antag). I don't want to give out all the cool designs. I show them because, while yes I'm prideful, I want people to see the possibilities. If you give out the cool stuff you make for free, the cool stuff isn't cool anymore. You may ask, may say no, may say yes. I've personally went up and examined peoples designs in character and asked them questions for them to solve that was related to their issues. You learn by experimentation and solving things yourself. Yes I can copy pastebin designs and make a whole novel and give them out, but that removes the fun in IE when you're building something by the book. (Besides, most the stuff I made was cheese stuff that can shut people down with a few clicks) Regarding LOOC, I'm not too sure, I may have been pulled away or not, an antag, or focused on my own things. Sorry

Basic Information Byond Account: sonicgotnuked Character Name(s): https://gyazo.com/ba7d32652d9e9b330a0fdbfd1b02dca7 AI Name(s): I did GAL(X)Y as a borg a couple times. SLEEPY and SLEEPY 2.0. I don't really play much synth anymore unless you want me to start digging out ancient names that I've disowned. Started E.Y.E Discord username + tag: Nuke #1329. Age: 18 Timezone: -7 Standard Mountain Time When are you on Aurora?: Weekends. Weekday afternoons depending on school and other events that I am mandated to go to. Experience Ancient gmod admin. Was a trial mod (failed) for Aurora for a month. How long have you played SS13?: 3+ years How long have you played on Aurora: 3 Years? I feel old. 2016 in Exodus days How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: A Lot because I have no life :0 Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: This one Have you read through the criteria thread and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: Yes Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No perm or temp bans. I've had an old synth perm ban and perm antag ban back in the day that I've long since appealed. Personality I often times shitpost on discord and meme a lot on the server, especially when I'm complaining about things. I don't straight up complain, I shitpost. Mainly about game mechanics. I like to go into fun nostalgia trips at times. Personally, I think I'm pretty well rounded. I keep myself out of trouble. I play this game. I am supportive to people who are truly trying to improve. I don't know how to fill space, I've been around despite a couple hiatuses from the server. Why do you play SS13?: I play ss13 because it took over my life. I can't stop playing it. I find it fun to RP. I can't escape. Help Me. I always think back to this game and just want to play it sometimes. Yes, it sometimes gets boring, but I still enjoy the shenanigans that can happen and some good antag rounds. Plus the learning curve is fun to overcome. Why do you play on Aurora?: Because I like to RP a character. I enjoy interacting with other people and their ideas. I enjoy the slow pace and fast pace side of the server where some rounds leave you in a chair RPing and others have you running from a tyrannical wizard who is asking you if your skeleton is just itching to walk free. I enjoy the constant updates that adjust and remake the game. I also enjoy the creative freedom that comes with attempting original gimmicks. Sometimes they flop. Sometimes they make a stellar round that leaves the adrenaline running. This server is like a drug. I also like the community. What do moderators do?: They moderate the server. Moderators are those people who pop in and examine both sides of a situation that both players may have been ignorant towards while being the judicial judges of the rules. They also play a secondary role to assist people with mechanics, quell the discord chat, and hand out punishment to those who need that extra shove off the cliff to improve. Now, I know what you're asking... Why dear random person! This is completely wrong! Moderators Discuss. If one person shoots an ahelp about BorgMcBorg sedating them, often times if its valid, it's an explaining factor to tell them why they did it while careful to not share meta. They help improve by doing this. They manage the community by being active and discussing. Moderators are human and mistakes can be discussed in staff complaints. Communication, Discussion, and Explanation. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: While I can go on about the three main points I hinted at above, Moderating on Aurora is to uphold another standard: Roleplay. Unlike some more LRP servers where admins just keep the rules in line and all issues is OOC, moderators on Aurora keep the server in line. HRP wouldn't be HRP if everyone was allowed to play BaldiMcGreytide and welder bomb their boss because they took their golden brand bald cream. Aurora is special in that regard. Moderators have to use logical thinking throughout the process and query both sides. Why did two non antags shoot each other on extended? Pull the "Do you have a minute?" bwoink and ask them because it may be for a completely IC reason. Moderators determine between IC and OOC issues and solve OOC issues within their abilities. That's something that isn't on LRP servers and is an extra step. Yes, your character can break rule one. No, you as a player can not break rule one. (Don't be a dick). Seriously, give me criticism and discuss with me if you think something is wrong. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I honestly spent time thinking back to my Trial Mod failure, and I want to give it another chance! I'm active mostly in the community when I'm actually active! I want to be active! I want to give it another shot. I always enjoyed Aurora and why not help it ease the 27 tickets in a round ranging from graytide telling medical to suck their toes (When I was a trial) to complicated problems layered in grey line after grey line of information. It's a responsibility I the time to take up. This is just another learning curve in the game: how to deal with the mythical human race and the person sitting behind a computer screen. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: Calm, logical, and willing to improve myself. I've greatly improved, not just in the game, but as a person in these past few years. From my shitty tajara app way back then to now. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I think I handle them pretty well. I've always been able to handle short term stress that may come with moderating a server. Anything Else You Want to Add: Yes, I did meme a little bit in here, but I wanted something entertaining to read through and write. I wanted to use it to express my points. The title is a meme as well. Too memey?

EvilBrage - Poor Malf Play
sonicgotnuked replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Right, I had a laptop poof my response, but I think I have something that I can just respond with. All everyone really got was you're a quarky AI and your intention was just "We will all die together" right when code delta initiated. It was code delta, everyone assumes you're speaking of the self destruct. Everything before code delta is irrelevant to my complaint. I'm not accusing you of stealth AI. I more or less just wanted to summarize the round for clarity. I'm complaining about the fact that you said "We're going to die together" then suddenly blow me up with the CnC console then with every APC near me. There was nothing previously even warranting you as a hostile AI when your in the background trying to swing the crew to fight each other. If that was the case, people would've started breaking cameras and yelling at me to fix you. That's why I think I'm not the only one who saw you as a threat before code delta. That's what the complaint is about. You can't just give a simple "I have issues" "Everyone will die together" before trying to maxcap people across the entire station. -

I did interact and ask questions to Reese. Nothing came of it because it was just perceived as some glitch and I can't really investigate it when there is only a scrap of information. Blowing the research servers was fine honestly, It finally pulled my head enough and made my char freak the fuck out. Eventually I did ask you about it. Yeah, poor borgo was SSD, and it was late at night. I can't control security, nor did I never really know about this pod survivor until later. The detective was the only one who seemed to be going up, My point of view, my char was freaked out. Just because I'm command doesn't mean I can't have reactions to a nuke on the station no one knows about. Especially after the science servers blow up. In my point of view, I was playing along with the gimmick. Printing the pictures, showing the crew, and causing a freak out with THE nuke without anyone stopping seemed like the best option. It gave some RP for everyone inside the SAT. I only pointed it out knowing that you could've started the self destruct and there was nothing we could've done because of the stations own actions. Understandable, I never thought the time frame was an issue. We filled it up with RP. I'm not accusing you of 'dragging out the round' Never called the shuttle until code delta, after you found the self destruct. Thanks for not killing t-comms. X-ray is reasonable. The entire process is an hour long. From when you start the first firewall hacks that get announced to when you actually click the button. Like I said, time wasn't an issue. There was zero indication people were going to your core nor was it even warranted yet. No one was even smashing cameras. Right when code delta hit from your elite hack I presume, I move to call an emergency shuttle and announce to the crew. Right then. No "Get out of the bridge" or anything of that sort. Straight hostilities. The console blows up and perhaps a minute later I am forced to endure an APC explosion. OBVIOUSLY you're trying to kill me at that point. That's why I wasn't happy. No holopad. No comms. You suddenly switch from your quarky depressing AI into a depressing AI who is starting to try and kill me right when I entered the bridge for whatever reason. It would've been better to consult the crew, tell them that their idiots for spacing the SAT, and make them do things because you're the only person who can cancel it. Want my head pinned to your core? You could've spend that time demanding it instead of just mass blowing up APCs. In all honestly, it would've been a lot more interactive. You don't have to kill to progress a round. -
BYOND Key: sonicgotnuked Game ID: b3n-baqA Player Byond Key/Character name: EvilBrage Staff involved: Garn, Abo(?) No staff online, was told to make a complaint. Reason for complaint: Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the beginning stages of the round and the great mystery that involved my missing science servers. Though, it was wordlessly left on a hanging loop and blowing up the science servers wordlessly does seem a bit power gaming to me. It shuts down RnD, destroys the levels, and you're basically screwed with science (and safe if you're an AI) The gimmick was decent. They did a good job convincing the crew to space the SAT terminal. This is important later. It never showed any other hostilities before code delta When code delta immediately hit, of course being the logical command staff I was, I decided to go to the bridge and call the shuttle. Immediately the CnC terminal blows up. I am forced to run. I get hit by an APC inside the teleporter room while trying to escape. Make my way back around to captains office, same thing. APCs, manage to get a shuttle, shuttle recall, and more explosions versus the other crew. They basically, right after code delta started, begin executing people with APC explosions. We break cameras in the command bunker and it still managed to access the APC is blow us all up. I got sent to space, where I died. Now keep in mind, We couldn't do anything about the self destruct since we spaced the SAT. We never organized any assault on the AI chamber. All everyone was trying to do was call a shuttle. There was ample opportunity for the AI to interact, recall shuttles, and generally RP with everyone while the timer counts down instead of just blowing everyone up on deadhour. Approximate Date/Time: 9/23/2019 ~ 3:00 -7 MNT time

I don't think it'll be impossible. It'll use rep station access. It is just impossible to open without their ID. Searching it without prior consent may be grounds for a five hundred credit fine. I understand the issues that may arise from this. This idea of only the rep and cap level access could be debated as well. Perhaps a pincode to unlock normally and something like vault access required to unlock with an ID?
-
I suggest a storage item similar to the real life diplomatic bags. Diplomatic Bags bypass any searches that may be conducted. Most commonly used for any sensitive items to bypass airline searches. The diplomatic bag Why I think it would be beneficial for Representatives and Consular Officers to have a special container that they could put interviews in, pictures, and other paperwork they may have secretly acquired, created or otherwise. It would be the same size as a briefcase and it'll be a rather cool thing for them to have. Something to fuck with them and steal if you really care enough. It would use the Rep ID access to open and may fall under grand theft if stolen*. If approved by the captain, the protections of the diplomatic briefcase fails. Otherwise, if the suitcase is searched unauthorized, it would be Violation of Privacy laws for a 500 credit fine. I feel like this would be better then a secure briefcase because it is something unique to the Consulars and Representatives. It would spawn with them instead of a regular suitcase. I already completed the object sprites. If this gets traction, I'll do the directional sprites as well. *up to debate suitcases.dmi

I understand Skulls point above, lol. It's been a good trip down memory lane involving on the meta despite its issues. This just comes to prove that the player base has changed. The culture adjusted. The Exodus, while something in all our memories, became incabatable for Aurora. Before Aurora, it was already drifting to that point.

I am releasing my optimized RND guide.

Reading up on this, I find it rather interesting as it uses some stuff I don't use. Throughout the years, I've always created my own unique way of RnD that I sometimes have to modify around new items or, god forbid, alb removing tech ? -

I still believe SMES's would be an acceptable 'max cap' compromise regardless. If you or anyone bothers to set RCON for five minutes while hacking something, by the time you need to blow it up, it'll have enough charge to do so. It'll still maxcap an area and pull this distraction. APC's are way too common and it makes no sense that one basic cell APC can blow up an entire department. I understand the reason, but it's just way too commonly abused in my opinion. I understand that you can ahelp, but at a certain point, it comes to the mechanics because APCs are extremely easy to underestimate when destroying them. It vents multiple levels of station just by a few seconds and little warning besides power in the room cutting and BZZT. I remember on the Exodus when I underestimated. I ended up killing all of security because the entire upper part of the station vented. Now with the ZAS updates, it's become a lot more powerful. APC explosion_intensity = explosion_intensity + round((A.cell.charge / CELLRATE) / 100000) SMES explosion_intensity = 4 + round((S.charge / CELLRATE) / 100000) For instance, APC's add a 2 base power due to the var defined before. SMES's add a 4 base power. It still hits the max-cap though on both. So it is forced to limit itself on both. -
Secret CHEMS!! Meme. Seriously, we could have it require something like solid hydrogen, that one wafer that is rare and gives science a lot of resources. Each rej needs like 2 of those.
