I'm happy that synthetics are finally getting more lore. It's great! However, I and a few other players have some complaints. Firstly, the 'improvisational developmental system'. It seems very similar to real-life artificial neural networks, a topic I have some familiarity with. However, they're actually rather simple and not at all 'high-end' or 'specialised', though it is true that it's not perfect; however, I would think that by 2458 at least a few of the bugs would have been ironed out. Second, I'm unsure why an 'emotion synthesiser' would be so highly-regulated if not outright illegal. What, exactly, is so dangerous about a synthetic having emotion? Additionally, it's unclear as to whether one would be allowed in a research environment, and how does this apply to pAIs? Are they getting removed, as they have emotion and personality without being bulky and expensive positronic brains? What about robots (non-posibrain/mmi cyborgs)? Several things seem to be overlooked in this lore, which is unfortunate because it seems good in theory. Third, 'cracking down' on IPCs, cyborgs, and AIs. This has been attempted before. It didn't end well. And from what I heard, this has already begun, despite nothing being clearly laid out or even stated. As Smooooth said, this is a roleplay server, and emotionless servants with no personality are... the exact opposite of roleplay. One of my fondest memories of this server is conducting an interview with CelestAI in the library, as well as some very good RP I've had with several IPCs and cyborgs who might be considered to have too much 'emotion' or 'personality' by your (unclear and secret) definition. Overall, I like that you're trying to give synthetics more structure and lore, but the direction it's going in doesn't seem like a good one. Perhaps with clearer guidelines and a focus towards RP would be better?

Minecraft: Aurora Realm [OUTDATED - SEE NEW POST]
MoondancerPony replied to Azande's topic in Other Games
Minecraft Username: Scratchthatguys Character Name: Victoria Richards Character's Role: Peasant Short Bio: Victoria was raised to work in the tavern owned by her parents in Temmes. She spent most of her time cleaning and preparing drinks and meals for the customers. However, when her parents died in a sailing accident, ownership of the tavern was thrust upon her. Now, she's doing her best to manage the tavern, though it's rather worse for wear. The meagre income she gets from the occasional customer is barely enough to survive on, much less thrive, though the recent surge in inhabitants in both Borealis and Temmes may allow her to reclaim the tavern's former status. -
I've only interacted with Ikrad on a few occasions, but the backstory makes sense, and it seems like it'd help stimulate RP. (And apparently look better than the beret he currently uses.) Support, +1, whatever. I like this. I hope it gets made.

Reporting Personnel: Ryann Ford Rank of Reporting Personnel: Assistant (promoted to Executive Assistant) Game ID: boVC1f Personnel Involved: - Ryann Ford, Executive Assistant: Witness - Manfred Hayden, Chief Engineer: Witness, Victim - Hanira Yishu, Head of Personnel: Witness, Victim - Adolph Hammerstein, Warden: Offender Time of Incident: Approximately 2:45 AM Real time: 0035GMT 12/20/2016 Location of Incident: Bridge, Departures EVA Nature of Incident: [X]Workplace Hazard [X]Accident/Injury [ ]Destruction of Property [ ]Neglect of Duty [ ]Harassment [X]Assault [X]Misconduct [X]Other Loss of Property Overview of the Incident: Warden Adolph Hammerstein aimed a laser cannon mounted on a Durand exosuit near Head of Personnel Hanira Yishu and declared 'INITIATING TERMINATION PROTOCOLS.' He then lowered the weapon and claimed he was 'just kidding,' and aiming at a piano directly behind her. Several minutes later, Chief Engineer Manfred Hayden was shot and severely injured by Adolph Hammerstein, presumably with the same exosuit-mounted laser, supposedly because Hayden was in the way of a 'horde of space carp.' Chief Engineer Hayden was also reportedly thrown into a window by Warden Hammerstein. Afterward, Hammerstein continued to be out of the brig in the Durand exosuit. Chief Engineer Hayden claims that 'there were no space carp, he made that up, just shot me, it's attempted murder.' The Durand was later lost in space by Hammerstein, according to Captain Outfield. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: Chris Outfield, Captain. Railo-Mestoqe Ca'qelolisp, Head of Security. Actions taken: The Durand was planned to be confiscated, but was lost. Additional notes: Hayden claimed a doctor told him he had an injured heart, and the crew monitor showed him with twenty-one stationary suffocation damage after the initial thirty-odd burn and ten or so brute damage had been healed.

I'm up for it, yeah. What are the rules/conditions?

I feel like the previous suggestion about in-game submissions would be good. Maybe as some sort of end-of-round form or just general form that a xenobiologist can fill out? Or maybe right click on the scanner or something, click something like 'add observations for scanned specimen', select the specimen you want, and then type in your observations. It'd probably need some pruning, but I imagine that it'd be no different than the library database, and probably better. It'd give xenobiologists something to do, an actual relevance and sense of persistence, while still keeping this idea alive. EDIT: Haha, nevermind, I see someone came up with the exact same idea before...

Right, so, ICly, Hunter's a good scientist. Unfortunately, I don't get the opportunity to RP much with him. He seems to rush to complete everything he can and then either cryo or vote for crew transfer. If you can change that and start RPing more and develop friendships and get to know other characters (and let other characters get to know Edgar), this would be an easy +1. As it stands, however, I don't think I can give an opinion either way.

[Accepted] Orr404's Head of Staff application
MoondancerPony replied to Orr404's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Definitely. In my opinion, Anomalia has done more for Research than many Research Directors have. That said, she still has the ability to teach and cooperate with her coworkers. She's done a lot for everyone in Science. Definite +1. -
Interesting. I like it, and can't wait to see it in action. +1

[Accepted] HunterRS's Whitelist App Trial 2
MoondancerPony replied to HunterRS's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
ICly, one of my characters dislikes Edgar due to differences in their personalities and how they go about things. The other likes him, he's a competent scientist/interim RD. OOCly, I think he's pretty neat. Would totally like to see him as a fully-fledged RD. -
This seems like a bad idea. I want characters to age faster, but I think time compression like this is a bad idea. Maybe the 'one shift is day, one shift is night' thing, but... no. It'd unnecessarily complicate things.

Feedback for Nikki/Monica and Robert Huntington
MoondancerPony replied to MoondancerPony's topic in Character Stories
I'd say Manfred got the right idea that one round, but being that blunt is a good way to make her not tell you anything. -
Nikki is probably my third-oldest character, taken from a story I've been writing. On the server, however, she's my second-newest character, and a lot of fun to play. Robert... where do I start with him? He was specifically created for this server, though I was planning to make him eventually. While it's fun to play as him, I don't really get the reaction I intend (I just can't be mean, apparently), and he only does 'dumb labor'-type jobs, so he's probably the one of my main characters I play the least.

This may just be HoF-worthy (in my opinion) if you have other screenshots from after.
-
You could always just be an assistant and... assist your department until a slot's free. Or, even if a slot's not free, ask the HoP or the captain to reassign you to the proper job.

Was aircraft, and by extension anti-aircraft technology, developed/used by then? I saw mention of automobiles, but not of aircraft (save for spacefaring craft mentioned much later). Additionally, what were they made of, if they existed? Were they wooden planes, such as the Polikarpov Po-2, or stronger yet heavier metal planes? Considering that Tajaran culture and the climate on Adhomai seem to be based off Russia, it wouldn't be too far-fetched for them to have (presumably wooden) planes. Though they might have been expensive to produce (even though they'd be cheaper than metal aircraft), the rebels had support from NanoTrasen and/or converted them from civilian aircraft (such as crop-dusters, if they were used), and I imagine that the loyalists would, at least at first, have the money and resources to reverse-engineer them, or at least develop moderately effective countermeasures (or even just use the artillery they already have), until they were eventually defeated. Additionally, would something like the Nachthexen (or at least female pilots) be a possibility on Adhomai during the first revolution? Thanks in advance.

If I recall correctly, Anita had the voice changer, not the CE. Additionally, it was "unkown voice", I believe. XD That was a fun (and heartbreaking) round. I remember desperately trying to convince Security to un-handcuff me while CelestAI was in pain from all the conflicting laws. And then, after we finally got in there (my emag broke just in time...), we realized it was empty.

Nope. EDIT: >Implying there can't be good characters with those traits. Seriously, you spam lists like that on almost every feedback thread. It's not helpful. It's not constructive. It's not even feedback.

I wanna know what you guys think of her. She's my first character on this server, and I think I've put the most time into her (especially considering she's from another story I've written). Though when I first joined I hopped around jobs a bunch, now she's a dedicated chemist, which I think fits her very well given how she enjoys being alone or in relative isolation.
