  1. Senri's pretty neat. Basically foster dad for everyone on the station, second to Hawkins. Might have surpassed Woolery in dad-ship, actually. Also like post-cloning Senri better than pre-cloning Senri, definitely.
  2. Adding armour to a jacket like you add webbing to jumpsuits could also work, perhaps?
  3. Ironically, I know of an administrator's character who does this. But seriously though, I don't support this at all. It seems unnecessary.
  4. He outright refused to listen to criticism in group chats and the staff Discord, though. This isn't just framing him, it's something he actually said. I'm all for giving him a chance for change, but when he's actually refused it, what more can we do...?
  5. I feel like Pemander and Lilah's perception/view of new Vaurca lore is a bit generous. I absolutely love the idea in theory, but in practice what I've seen of the new lore, both from Chev's characters and others, tends to fall flat. I'd be all for a rework of the rework instead of just a plain revert, but Chev seems to have settled on either keeping it exactly as it is or resigning. Lots of people have addressed their grievances with them, and they seem to not care what the playerbase thinks. It's a shame, too, because their lore does have its good points, but the few easily-addressed issues that the players have seem to be entirely ignored. EDIT: I'm actually voting no, which surprised me, given that I was one of the people pushing for it to be reverted. But I'd like to at least see if Chevalier will attempt to fix it instead of resigning/reverting it.
  6. Given I've reworked these characters slightly, I'd like to see what people think of them now.
  7. I'm going to be withholding a vote until Lilah and/or Pemander say something, if they choose to do so. I'd be interested in hearing what some of the very vocal supporters of new Vaurca lore have to say about it.
  8. 1) A cooldown would probably work better than a hard cap. 2) This kind of thing is happening recently. Someone filled every tile outside of Research with sausage, and went around force-feeding people. This is more of a player issue and less of a code issue; we shouldn't try to moderate bad players by punishing the good players.
  9. You mentioned Asimov in the first question. +1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1. But seriously though, I love this character concept. Most people with the "metal human" argument are referring to people who want an IPC that both looks and acts like a human. That said, the idea of an IPC that's more internally/mentally/emotionally human than shells, while clearly being a robot, is a great one and I imagine it would probably seem to a lot of characters to be in the uncanny valley- which isn't a bad thing at all! I've also seen nothing but great roleplay from Pyre when I've played on shifts with her. She interacts with other characters in a manner that's reminiscent of an actual, real-life flesh-and-blood person, which is a testament to Vile's roleplaying ability, I think. Definite +1 from me.
  10. The AI has a utility function that determines the amount of utilons it gets for a specific action, or for a specific circumstance. Specifically, it sort of sums up the utilons for every state in a desired outcome, and picks the action that gets the outcome with the most utilons. Utility functions for basic AIs would be simple and able to be hand-designed, but for larger or more complex AIs it would probably be computer-aided or computer-generated. An incredibly simple (and bad) utility function could be something like "Maximise paperclips", or formally "U(p)=p", where the only thing it values is paperclips. This creates a type of AI known as a paperclip maximiser, which will stop at nothing to make more paperclips. This type of AI is also really bad, so we have laws and more complex utility functions to stop that from happening. Like I said before, it's entirely possible that an AI that has reached the singularity could modify its own utility function; a 'jailbroken' AI of sorts.
  11. Your backstory is interesting, your answers are very good, and from what I've seen of Owl the station AI you're very good at roleplaying synthetics. Definite +1 from me.
  12. I think it could be kept as a book, since Lohikar's hosting it and it'll be implemented using an iframe. The previous description still stands, too.
  13. In that case, it could just be a stack of papers named 'Spark Theorem', with this in it: https://pastebin.com/1DrxvHMa The sections divided by the page break comments would be placed into separate pages. Is that doable? EDIT: The image hotlinks probably need to be replaced, since Lohikar told me that's FROWNED UPON in this ESTABLISHMENT.
  14. BYOND Key: MoondancerPony Character name: Monica Huntington Item name: Spark Theorem Why is your character carrying said item to work? Since she's very interested in artificial intelligence, she looks up to Kyyir’ry’avii ‘Karima’ Ile’nagrii Al’Ghul-Mo’Taki a lot, given that she works on the Echo Project, the Katana Project, and is also a published scholar in the field. At one point, she got Karima (the author of the Spark Theorem) to sign her personal copy, but it got stolen. Someone told Karima about it, and she mailed Monica a new copy, signed by her, with a note on it. Given that it's incredibly important to her, she carries it with her both to keep it safe and as somewhat of a good luck charm. Item function(s): A book with text written in it. When used, it will display the HTML in this pastebin: https://pastebin.com/Yp1ZiuXq Item description: "A bound copy of the 2458 research paper 'Spark Theorem: Research Into the Development of Synthetic Consciousness and Sapience'. This one is signed by the author." Item appearance: A purple book named 'Spark Theorem'. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? Karima is a huge influence on Nikki, and is one of the main reasons she's even on the Aurora. She's even inspired her to do her own research in the same field. Additionally, the first time she lost her signed copy she was affected greatly. It's of immense value to her, and I'm sure a 30 page long research paper could be used as a conversation starter, especially if she carries it around with her and reads it (which she certainly will). Additional comments: HTML for it is here, again: https://pastebin.com/Yp1ZiuXq Credit for the Spark Theorem goes to NebulaFlare.
  15. This would be more suitable for the Suggestions subforum.
  16. Maybe allow Cargo to order them, if they can't already? I think the paramedic rig should start with one and you should have to get one from somewhere else if you want it on any other rig.
  17. It's been a month, is there any feedback?
  18. I'm all for this! If it gets approved I'd like to try making the changes to newscasters to make them more 'professional'.
  19. Waaait, contraction and expansion of space... Bluespace drives are alcubierre drives? I thought they just teleported you. Also, bluespace teleportation (at least in-game) involves projectile motion. Incorporate that or not, doesn't really matter, but if you're submitting this I'd imagine you'd like to know.
  20. For a pop-culture-ish example of what I mean by this: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2017/06/artificial-intelligence-develops-its-own-non-human-language/530436/?utm_source=msn A more technical viewpoint, from the same mentioned study: https://s3.amazonaws.com/end-to-end-negotiator/end-to-end-negotiator.pdf The AI is making decisions and trading based on the utilons each item or outcome gives it.
  21. I'm still open for questions and suggestions regarding this.
  22. In my mind, one of the characters I think of as an exceptional example of what I think Vaurca should be is Za'Akaix'Rok Zo'ra. Canon manages to play his Vaurca in a way that makes them seem foreign and alien, as the Vaurca should be, but without making them completely unrelatable. I've also heard a lot about Canon's plans if he gets Vaurca loredev, such as fleshing out VR, which I believe he was planning on doing anyway even before the slot opened. I'm totally all for it! That's a +1 from me!
  23. To be entirely honest, I think Sid's character is fine. What isn't fine is the sort of cult that's formed around him. While I get that, of course, he'd have some friends, and most of them I'm fine with, there are certain characters who seem to like him for no other IC reason than 'I love all Guwan!!', and to avoid causing trouble I won't bring them up. There also may be some sort of OOC bias from those players, too. Keep in mind this isn't referring to the characters who interact with Sid on and off station, on the IC relay chat, on events on the IC relay and in the other IC discords, etc. This is referring to characters who, in my opinion, don't really have any ties to Sid other than the fact that he's a Guwan and the character likes Guwan or just xenos in general. This would be fine if it were played off as an unhealthy obsession or something similar to that, but from what I've seen it isn't. In my opinion, the issue isn't with him, it's with the obnoxious characters that tend to cling to him for no reason.
