  1. Reporting Personnel: Azala Guwan Rank of Reporting Personnel: Roboticist Game ID: bQb-aCge Personnel Involved: (Name, Rank: Offender/Witness/Other (Ckey)) - Stephanie DeFlores, Captain:Reciever of my first report. / Ezuo - Jarod Dvorsky, Head of Security: HoS in charge at the time. - Lt. Columbo, Lieutenant/Good Dog: Emotional support. - Sonorous Zouzoror, Security Officer: Offender -Witnesses Girard Snark, Sean Richter, Malcom Catleay, Echo, Aaron Unk Time of Incident: Multiple times throughout the shift. Real time: Started around after the event speaker moved from the holodeck to the bar. Location of Incident: Holodeck/Bar Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [x]Neglect of Duty [x]Harassment []Assault [x]Misconduct []Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: Firstly, I would like to make clear two things. First, that Security Officer Zouzoror has been harassing me since my second day aboard the Aurora. Before it was empty death threats and pitiful insults and name calling, things I have taken and long since finished crying over back when I was a child. However, today was special and today is when I decide to write this report, for he tried to call me to be a agent of terror for him. Which leads to my second point, that I have nothing to gain here and everything to lose. The minute you follow through with this and any action against Zouzoror is taken because of my report, he will drop my name to the highest members of the terrible order he is a part of (which I will detail later in my report) and they will threaten my life if I ever choose to go home. They will have the legal protection of the Hegemony and I will stand no chance. I have chosen today to make the Republic of Biesel my home. Please take that in consideration as I insist I am not risking my life and the home I still care for for a petty argument or to harm someone's reputation. Today, during a event that was scheduled to allow cabinet member Aristalus to speak to us, I recieved a PDA message from Officer Zouzoror requesting that we talk about the content of the cabinet member's speech. I agreed, as I saw no harm in discussing it, as it was as what Aristalus had asked us to do. I followed Aristalus to the bar where it was arranged for him to have a meet and greet and Zouzoror, likely there to observe met with me inside the bar, next to the entrance. He began speaking to me in ' the mother tounge' as he calls it, but what you will know it as Sinta'Unathi. I will now detail the extent of our conversation, and for your convenience have it laid out plainly in Ceti Basic. So you are aware, Zouzoror spoke the entirety of our conversation in Sinta'Unathi. There was a point where I stopped so onlookers could be aware of the content of our conversation, the point I did this will be highlighted in bold. --- Sonorous Zouzoror hisses, "Tell me what happened at the meeting." Azala Guwan hisses, "They were discussing Biesels steps towards synthetic rights." Sonorous Zouzoror hisses, "What else?" Azala Guwan hisses, "Attempting to lobby to free them from tags and masters." Azala Guwan hisses, "About the invasion the system suffered." Azala Guwan hisses, "Relief they plan on giving the synthetics." Azala Guwan hisses, "He mostly answered questions, his speech was rather brief." Sonorous Zouzoror hisses, "I enjoy you, you are one of the easier Guwan." (Before this point, I simply tolerated his nonsense and ignored him, I suppose this made me easy, and made him think he could make the following request.) Sonorous Zouzoror hisses, "Ensure this synthetic knows its place." Azala Guwan says, "I'm not here to caussse trouble..." (At this point the officer began thumping his tail on the ground, and looked agitated as I refused to abuse the government official, and I start speaking in basic. However it seemed the room was too distracted by the celebrity guest to notice our conversation.) Sonorous Zouzoror hisses, "I have given you an order, Guwan." Azala Guwan says, "They ssssynthetic isss here to do assss it pleassess. I will not do anything to interfere with it assss per the captainssss orderssss. I ssssuggesssst you do the sssame." (At this point we had a staring match, and we were silent. In his eyes, pure anger. I broke the silence. Azala Guwan says, "You don't want to do thiss." Sonorous Zouzoror hisses, "Speak your mothers tongue, I will speak to my Chapter Master and ensure you never gain your titles back, and will never marry." (This threat is rather empty to me. As being born an orphan I have no titles, and no prospect of getting married. Not like at this point I would want to get married to a Unathi resident on Moghes, as they would probably insist on me moving back and becoming a housewife.) Sonorous Zouzoror looks at the Synthetic menacingly as I mention this. Azala Guwan says, "I never had any titless, and marriage issss unimportant to me." Azala Guwan asks, "Are you done?" Sonorous Zouzoror hisses, "Then you are an even more disgusting Guwan than I thought, heretic." (Here he calls me a heretic, because when we first met he checked my employment record, and my listed religion insulted the religious crusader order's religion that he is a part of.) --- Which leads to the first part of my complaint. Sonorous Zouzoror is a (assumedly former if he works here) member of the Mariziite order, comparable to the crusaders of ancient earth times. They do witch trial esc investigations with barely any scientific basis hunting down 'cultists'. By chance the majority of these cultists happen to be shamans of the other major religion on Moghes, Th'akh. Because of their order many legal executions are happening every day based on hearsay and paranoia. They are militant and they are hateful, especially against Th'akh Unathi and Guwan. Now why would Nanotrasen, a company that hires cheap Guwan labor and skilled Unathi labor who at least half must be Th'akh practicing Unathi, hire a former member of this order? Let alone one that behaves like he is still a part of it? He still wears his regalia, calls himself by his title, and makes threats towards Unathi. Essentially attempting to undermine command staff like he did here and use outside power to force Unathi's hand to do terrible things against the interest of Nanotrasen? I have no way of proving that the above conversation happened, and witnesses will only be able to vouch for my half of the last few sentences I said. But even assuming I am lying through my teeth right now with the things I am sacrificing here to do this, you cannot deny he still has this ability over other Guwan, and that should not be tolerated. At the bare minimum his garb and threats should be clearly banned. At most, he should not be allowed to work in positions where he might be able to influence or blackmail a Unathi in serving in interests that aren't in the interests of Nanotrasen. --- After this conversation happened, Officer Zouzoror walked off, and the captain walked by, assumedly ensuring smoothness in the VIP guest's visit. Before going about my business I immediately informed the closest and highest ranking member of command. While normally I would have followed the chain of command in case Zouzoror would be braixen enough to cause trouble himself I wanted to make my warning as quickly as possible. We discussed the conversation that had just unfolded, and she advised that I pick up a recording device. (Which honestly would be pointless, as if he witnessed me depressing it he would say nothing incriminating to me.) She also assured me she would take care of it personally, and that I should just enjoy the meet and greet. I proceed to do that and engaged in banter with the cabinet member, which was quite the surreal experience. As I was about to ask my question, Officer Zouzoror rejoined us in the bar and began eyeing the IPC cabinet member. I suppose I should quickly clarify that most Unathi have a distrust of robotics in general, especially prosthetic limbs and IPC's as they see them as mockeries of life and living things. A religious zealot would certainly and understandably be very angered by these things because of what they believe, not because it makes sense. After seeing him walk in I asked my question, and posed for a picture with Aristalus. After this point, Officer Zouzoror jumped in and asked Aristalus a question. This leads to my second complaint, the complete unprofessional conduct this active duty security officer is displaying while talking to a VIP guest. Here is my best account of the conversation, from notes I took while it was happening. The three participants being myself, Zouzoror and Aristalus. With comment from witnesses like Aaron Unk. Sonorous Zouzoror says, "What iss your role." Aristalus says, "I'm the newly appointed secretary of synthetic relations, of the federal republic of Biesel." Sonorous Zouzoror asks, "You do paperwork. And who let you come here?" Aaron Unk asks, "Who do you think?" Aristalus shouts, "The wonderful board members of the gracious and noteworthy NanoTrasen, of course!" Sonorous Zouzoror says, "I ssee." Sonorous Zouzoror says, "You are insssition ssyntheticsss to. Risse up." (Here Zouzoror begins a accusation that the Secretary is attempting to start some kind of uprising, to try and justify why a on duty security officer should be upset with his presence here.) Sonorous Zouzoror says, "'Be free of their sshakclessss'" Echo whirrs softly, "oh boy." Sonorous Zouzoror asks, "Did you plagarisse thiss from the Tajaranssss?" Sonorous Zouzoror says, "That issss what you sssyntheticsss do, yessss? You can not create anything new." I began taking notes on my PDA at this point. Sean Richter says, "Officer Zouzoror, I ask that you show respect to the secretary." Sonorous Zouzoror asks, "Can you write a poem without taking partss from ussss? Can you write a ssssymphony?" Sonorous Zouzoror says, "Resssspect? It hassss done nothing to gain my ressspect." Aristalus shouts, "No, no. It's quite alright!" Mr. Zouzoror stared at the Secretary fairly intimidatingly. Sean Richter says, "Take a step back, please." Aristalus bravely stood his ground, and Zouzoror disregarded this order from a fellow officer. Echo says, "...for one who wishes to promote peace and protect people, your body language displays otherwise, Zouzoror." Aristalus says, "Not all of those will agree." Aaron Unk and echo stayed to witness this even, begrudgingly. Aristalus says, "I'm sorry you feel the way you do. As has been stated, you are not required to support me or my policies." Sonorous Zouzoror says, "I am in my right to be angry. Thisss thing hass jusst inssited the Guwan to riot." Azala Guwan exclaims, "He issn't calling for violence at all! You are misssssing the point!" (I intervened because the officer was being ridiculous, as for the entire time the Secretary was not calling for violence at any time. and even if he was the officer had no way of knowing because he wasn't there. This accusation, being a arrestable offense, is one I took seriously.) Aristalus says, "I have asked for all beings to show their support." Sonorous Zouzoror says, "Yet, in trying to gain ssssuppourt, you promote revolution." Sonorous Zouzoror says, "Desstruction of ssossssiety ass we know it." Sonorous Zouzoror asks, "Do you know the conssequenssesss of what you do?" Azala Guwan yells, "No one isss ssssuggesssting revolution you dolt!" Aristalus says, "You misinterpret collective reasoning." Echo says, "Zouzoror is not an individual to listen to synthetics, or Guwan. As such, the only ones who can speak reason to him are the officers present here." Sonorous Zouzoror says, "The Tajaransss promote collective reasssoning and their planet hasss not sseen peasssse in decadess." Sonorous Zouzoror says, "I promisssed not to interfere with Republic busssinessssss. But now you are promoting the Guwan to sssomething." He is insinuating that the secretary is attempting to use me as a terrorist, an agent of revolution and destruction of society, for vouching for the rights of synthetics. During this time he was also giving me threatning looks and attempted to follow me into the security lobby, in which I hid in a closet to avoid his detection. I would not be against him having this opinion normally. For he is entitled to his own opinion, and is free to express it in a nonviolent way. However not only did he do it while on duty, as a active member of security that is supposed to be helping defend the VIP, but did it in a intimidating and aggressive matter, using the power of his badge to try and intimidate the Secretary. While the Secretary has respectable tolerance and will not give Zouzoror the time of day I think it is important to make sure that employees of Nanotrasen represent Nanotrasen in the best possible way, and in this regard Zouzoror completely failed. His clear racism, prejudice, the fact that he is a former warrior against an entire religion and his intolerance for the rest of the crew make him completely incompatible and unfit to be a part of the USS Aurora crew. Especially as a security officer that is supposed to be in charge of enforcing the law fairly. Deep down I feel like Mr. Zouzoror might have something good in him. Our very first encounter was not at the checkpoint desk as I walked in on my second day of work. But on a crew transfer shuttle, where he was pleasantly drunk (I assume). On that shuttle he hummed a tune and asked me to dance, he spoke silly words like about how he loved me and that we should be married. While I thought he was crazy and that he was clearly out of his mind, it showed a kinder side of him. However, even though this side of him may exist, non-guwan Sk'akh unathi may have good experiences with him... it does not outweigh the ugly exterior he has. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: The head of security and the captain, I attempted to PDA IAA agent Christine Clarke, but the PDA server went down for my initial message, and she didn't respond to my follow up. Actions taken: The captain gave Zouzoror a verbal warning after the first incident, after the second incident she was going to have me talk to her about the incident with Head of Security Dvorsky, however it got interrupted by me accidently cutting the Lieutenant and him making a chew toy out of me. Once I was done being medically treated the crew shuttle was called for transfer and we were going up the elevator with some minutes left. The captain, HoS and security members escorted me to the shuttle, which I appreciate. I assure you me and the Lieutenant are on good terms now. Additional notes: I sincerely hope that Nanotrasen will look into and do more research on the culture of Moghes and the Unathi who live there. As Unathi who are brought from here directly to Nanotrasen stations are not well adapted to how humans operate, and with them bring their baggage. They don't bring with them the no tolerance for inter-worker conflict the well trained captains of nanotrasen come to expect. I also hope that Nanotrasen looks into disallowing the wearing of uniforms from organizations other than Nanotrasen. This Unathi is sincerely covering up his armor with the uniform of his violent order and is behaving like he never left. Not only is this a safety issue as it is difficult to distinguish him as security from a distance, but it is also dangerous because of the actions he takes because he feels emboldened by his uniform. It also ruins the productivity of the Unathi who are subjugated by his influence on the shift.
  2. About Azala Guwan I am a Roboticist working with Nanotrasen on the USS Aurora. I got my bachelors degree in Robotics at Mars University, graduating with honors. Currently working on my masters degree while working aboard the station. I have no particular religious leanings, and don't personally have much stake in the issue of 'do robots/synthetics have souls'. However I am happy to provide factual input on the mechanics and assist in crafting Mr. Sal'Dans thesis on why they have souls. As I am vocal in the rights of synthetics. I am single, and I am a loyal citizen of the Izewski Hegemony. I was raised on Ourea colony as an orphan. --- With myself and my credentials out of the way, allow me to discuss the topic at hand. The following is assuming that a soul exists, and that each living being is born with one. Let's begin with a wounded Unathi. With our example Unathi let us assume he fought in some great battle and lost his right arm. The question I pose to the religious community is that is this Unathi less of himself then he was before? Meaning where within the body do we believe our theoretical soul to reside? Does it lie within the heart, our brain? Or does it emanate throughout us? When we lose an arm, do we lose a part of our soul with it? If that was the case, does a Unathi that has lost a limb count as less of a Unathi? In my opinion, the answer to the last three questions is of course not, and the idea of such is ridiculous. Although this Unathi has no more right arm function, they still have the same mental facilities (theoretically, ignoring the obvious effects that a battle has on even healthy Unathi) and physical abilities in all facets but that arm. The effects of losing a part of one's soul would be draining and apparent. For if you believe in a soul, then a soul constitutes our very being. Personality, emotions, thoughts, faith, beliefs. A armless Unathi lacks in none of these fields simply because they are without a arm. So if you agree in the theory that a Unathi without a arm does not have a damaged soul, what is the issue with a prosthetic? Even without Mr. Sal'Dans's suggestion of extending the soul into a prosthetic (which would follow the 'soul emanates throughout our body and is tied to each piece' theory) a prosthetic should cause no offense. It is not detracting or hurting the Unathi's soul in any way. As with or without the prosthetic their soul is confined within the same body. The prosthetic doesn't change this boundy, and doesn't need the inhabitation of a soul in the first place. We design prosthetics to be a tool to assist those who are born without limbs or have lost limbs. That is all they are, tools. We don't need to claim that they are part of the body, and we aren't trying to say that they are natural. Cosmetically speaking, humans sometimes use synthskin to disguise it simply because they find it more appealing. That doesn't change the fact that it isn't their natural arm, it is a tool. I have a prosthetic leg, since I was born without one. I have no feeling in it, and it does nothing besides keep me balanced and help me move around naturally. Without it I would be forced to hobble around with a cane if I ever needed to get somewhere. My theory is simply this, a prosthetic is not any more offensive than a cane. It is a tool used to help the injured go about their day to day business. Because it is a tool, the concern of it being welcoming to a soul or not is void. Prosthetics being stigmatized because they cannot continue our soul is ridiculous idea because prosthetics aren't trying to be real natural limbs. No artificial limb can truly replace a limb that is lost. Even if we one day created a artificial limb that had biotechnology that replicates nerve endings and let you feel sensations through it, it will always be intrinsically different. You could go about the process of inviting the souls of our ancestors in a artificial limb if you wish, as it wouldn't be any different then inviting the spirits into your blade before going out to fight.
  3. BYOND Key: TomiixStarslasher Character Names: Azala Guwan, Daemon Jewitt, Godric Wright Species you are applying to play: Basicframe IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): EXEMPT Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yessir. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: IPC's leave a rather open slate when it comes to character design, since they are designed by humans they are allowed to be quirkier in a sense. Some IPC's are designed for very specific and useful purposes, while at the same time some are designed for simply the amusement of their creators. This freedom in character creation, being quirky without having to be insane, but have it be something that is relatively understandable and accepted, is interesting to me. Also who wouldn't want to be a robot in a futuristic spess game? Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As I have said earlier, the most important difference between humans and IPC's are that they are designed BY humans FOR humans. Meaning that they don't question their existence, they know it. If a IPC is designed to sing and dance, that is their design and destiny. That was their purpose and if they do it well an IPC can be content. Humans seek destiny, the path not lied before them, but is something that they search for. Certainly if an IPC was forced to do that, to discover it's own destiny or be forced to pave their own path, it would be tortuous to them. They more than likely wouldn't look to far, establish what it's design leads to it being good at, and pick a task for it to do until its completion. Character Name: Sir Ver Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Sir Ver is a famous knight, well renowned around the seven kingdoms as a champion of justice and good. He values his titles, Sir Ver, Guardian Knight, Champion of the People, Hero of the north, savior of the elves, slayer of goblins, Paladin of the god of justice Heironeous. The list goes on and on, and he collects titles like medals of honor, gleefully sharing them with the common folk who inquire, who wish to indulge themselves in the tales of his multiple triumphs. All of his adventures, all of his titles, all of his glory, and most importantly to him, all of his friends are as real to him as the world around us is real to us. However, Sir Ver is not a human knight paragon of justice, he is a basic shell IPC designed by a nerd group of roleplayers. Using him as a player to fill the fourth spot of their campaign for years. Convincing him the things he is doing is real, for their entertainment, since it makes it more realistic. This came crashing down upon the dungeon master learning that he lost his job, and he would need to come up with money quickly. He sold many priceless pieces of his collection. His rarest Witchcraft the Togetherness cards, his life size statue of Grognakor the Barbarian, and his precious IPC design, Sir Ver. The market wasn't very quick to pick up a hobbyist larping robot. So he rebranded Sir Ver as a Bodyguard IPC with a enthusiastic dedication to the P.A.L.A.D.I.N. lawset. This eventually got him sold, and then moved around a lot. As people moved him and resold him constantly, citing him as being annoying and delusional. However, his legitimate skill in sword fighting and hand to hand combat cannot be ignored, which still gave him value. This has eventually lead to him being purchased by Nanotrasen in a bulk clearance sale, and assigned the Aurora as a service IPC. This however wasn't a life suitable for Sir Ver, and he insisted that his skill demanded some sort of position that helped the station. He eventually was given a cadet trial run as a Security Officer on a smaller station. After dutiful service and proving himself capable, he achieved the position of security officer. He views himself as a great hero in retirement as a town guardsman, defending the common folk and the law of the station 'village'. He still doesn't think much about being an IPC or his being exchanged, viewing it as him adventuring. He is actually quite phobic around technology, and constantly acts culture shocked whenever he sees a new strange feat of technology. Chocking it up to magic or some kind of miracle of artifice. What do you like about this character? Are you kidding? A robot that is constantly acting like a knight is a really cool concept. This can lead to so many cool interactions! He views himself as human in every way, and quite above most humans. His mind constantly gives him convenient explanation for his subservience. Like the people buying him and selling him are lords contracting him for his skill. I feel like I can deliver a fun interactive experience with the crewman aboard the aurora. He has a whimsical and outgoing personality, is quirky, however his quirkiness and dedication to the cause can prove to be a boon to the station's safety. He is a robot man out of time, and is a faulty time capsule of a simpler era. People wont get him, people will be intrigued by him, he serves the double purpose of entertaining the crew and protecting them. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I think I am very competent at role-playing. Having done it for multiple years now over multiple platforms, IRC, Forums, over video games and dungeons and dragons, the obvious inspiration for this character. I feel like I only have good interactions with the Aurora community as a whole. Notes:
  4. As Azala Guwan, who got to play with Rex extensively for a round, and seeing ASSIST moving around I think he does a great job in the RP department and can handle that facet of the role well. +1 and good luck to you sir.
  5. I like lawyers... but occasion doesn't come up enough for them to do their job in my opinion. Unless we gave the more responsibility like be the general legal representation of the station. Restraining orders ect.
  6. Our wiki right now has nothing for Xenobiology. The current policy for teaching new Xenobiologists for me is to tell them to go to Baystation's wiki... so that is clearly a problem.
  7. When we say find out ICLY we don't actually mean it.
  8. That's a really cool idea. That would also be very useful, as that would allow people who aren't associated with the slimes to be in Xenobiology while a slime cage transfer was occurring. Which the current solution is that have everyone not friendly with the slimes hide in a locker.... which is also not very scientific.
  9. I do, but will be away for the next two weeks for vacation. But if we do one after that I would be up. B3
  10. To whom it may concern, Xenobiology is one of the most dangerous jobs on Aurora station. Don't believe me? Just look at these monsters. They are absolutely dreadful! They are fierce combatants and can ruin a crewman's genetics if not handled properly. Now of course, I ALWAYS handle them properly. However sometimes a Xenobiologist isn't able to successfully domesticate them, or a unforeseeable circumstance occurs and requires the culling of an entire cage of slimes. Sometimes slimes just aren't receptive of a offering, or they get too large in numbers. Currently, we are only armed with a fire extinguisher... which doesn't seem very efficient or scientific. I propose that each cell have an emergency water release system that will flood the room and will kill all slimes inside of the room. I also propose that Nanotrasen works with a team of Xenobiologists and Mechanical engineers to look up safer ways of moving slimes and culling specific ones. As currently we are left with means that seem appropriate for out in the field in a crisis, not in a state of the art lab. (Like idk... /tg/'s teleportation system or if we want to be original and force the xenobiologist to work with them directly something safer that doesn't feel like a dangerous game each time you start the round, hoping the slimes respond to you well.) This is my humble suggestion, and I hope you get back to me soon. Sincerely, Xenobiologist Godric Wright
  11. His age shouldn't matter. Free speech doesn't matter. This is a community run by admins that get to decide whether or not you have the privilege to play on their server or not. I feel like admins shouldn't base this on hearsay and just base it on what is concrete and apparent. The one discord message he sent that had an implication. If he gunks up the server later on it's not like giving him a chance to prove himself closes the door on future complaints. That's all i am going to say cause I'll just repeat myself. But try and focus the conversation here. Lil if you feel like you have a legit complaint about the fact that you were hounded OOC and on Discord... which I think is a fair statement to make, as hive's reaction wasn't really appropriate you should make your own post.
  12. Ah fuck i typed an entire fucking thing and it got erased cause internet. TL;DR I don't think any action besides a warning for taunting hive is in order. We may find his humor distasteful, however it is impossible to say that it is anything worse than dark humor. If there was this person could be sent to jail. As there is no evidence, and hive's entire post just ends up being a ad hominem attack that only makes his future complaints about this user harder to take objectively. We don't know the full story, and should judge this person based on their behavior on Aurora. Setting a precedent of taking seriously warnings about new players based on unprovable testimony from another user opens up abuse. It's impossible for us to know the whole story because it didn't happen here. If this person truly is a toxic person who makes jokes about kiddie porn often and does it here then I will be the first to make that player complaint thread unless someone else beats me to it. The admin base should consider if they want to add moral police to their list of duties and decide if preemptive strikes are in style for them.
  13. BYOND Key: TomiixStarslasher Character Names:Godric Wright, Daemon Jewitt Species you are applying to play:Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Dark Blue. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:I find non-human races to be cool. I live and breathe as a human being every day, and I like to play races that aren't my own. I like lizards and I think they are cool, so I want to play it. Byond the superficial, I find Feudal Systems to be interesting. Both the elements of a person who respects and works within it and one who has to deal with the consequences of being outside of it, and I want to work with both. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:Unathi are definitely more conservative on average than humans in this age. So it's either you are a traditionalist or you are a exile, with very little in between on Moghes. With Ouerea having a bit more leeway. I always liked the idea of a underdog, and playing the underdog. So I would like to primarily play as a Unathi who has the odds stacked against them. However exploring the feudal ideals of a normal unathi is also something I am interested in. One thing that really intrigued me is how the mechanics of being a ‘Guwandi' is like on the station. Like a Unathi that feels they dishonored their clan so much that they become Guwandi while working for Nanotrasen, and the effect that would have with everyone watching. How people who were friends with this Unathi would react and try to convince them otherwise. That's not my primary idea for Unathi, but hopefully it shows my understanding of how seriously they take honor than the average human does. Character Name: Azala-Tar Guwan Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Azala-Tar Quwan was abandoned at a young age and left at an orphanage in New Skalamar, Ouerea. The reason is largely unknown to her, but many factors could of been involved. Including the odd color of her scales, and the fact that she was missing a left leg made her very undesirable as a child to keep, let alone adopt. These factors kept her within the class of Guwan for her entire childhood. Being Guwan is bad enough, as the majority of society looks down upon the clanless. However, her unusual looks brought upon the torment of the other Guwan children as well. If there was a lowest, society as a whole made sure she knew she was below that. The deck of life was stacked against her, and the only hope she had came in the form of sympathy of a local Th'akh shaman in the city that she seeked out for guidance. She struck luck, as this particular Unathi shaman worked closely with humans who work in private corporations, bringing the Unathi religion to followers off world. This constant human contact exposed him to more liberal views, and created greater sympathy for her cause then normal. He witnessed first claw her great learning ability, as she listened and hung on to each word he said and saw in her eyes the want and need to be something more. He had connections with a human corporation, willing to pay for the education of potential employees. This would give her the opportunity to work and pay off her guild debt when on this planet she had none. However, an issue arised very quickly in his plan. No one in the orphanage taught her how to read, as everybody but himself had given up on her at that point. At risk of being exposed for teaching a woman how to read, he taught her the basics of Ceti Basic, and shipped her off with a group of Guwan being hired by this corporation, Nanotrasen. His only motivation being pity, and a small bit of inspiration granted to him by the humans who he interacted with on a daily basis, and now called friends. At first, Azala-Tar Guwan went to a basic service school, where she was able to flesh out her knowledge of Ceti Basic. She learned how to cook and serve a station kitchen, and worked with Nanotrasen post graduation as a chef/waitress. She was barely able to pay her guild bills with what she was earning, and knew she would need to develop some form of tangible skill that would get her a increase in wage. Up until this point, this Guwan was doing all of these station tasks with one leg and a stilt. She talked with a female human roboticist on station that she slowly grew an attachment to, and arranged a deal where in exchange for getting a prosthetic leg, Azala-Tar would do manual labor for her. The roboticist didn't make this deal expecting to be in her favour, but didn't want the Unathi to feel like she was receiving unearned charity. While helping with her tasks, Azala absorbed the information around her like a sponge, and was instantly curious about the fields of Robotics and AI. She applied to be educated by a Nanotrasen school and was accepted for retraining at Mars University. Her acceptance angered many of the other Unathi who attended the same school through the same sponsor. She was a women Guwan, and had no place in a school let alone a Robotic's bay. Despite the pressure from her own kind, she found acceptance in curious humans who were more curious about her feelings and thoughts than her color or last name. After being called a 'Guwan' for her entire life, she was very relaxed about letting the Human's and Skrell call her by simply Azala. A shortened bastardization of her first name that infuriated the other Unathi when they overheard someone refer to a Guwan in a personal matter. Azala had gotten in quite a few fights because of this, normally in defence after some kind of battery or sexual harassment. She was constantly told by the Unathi bullies that her presence there is staining the reputation of all Unathi that had walked through those halls. As she was clearly weak and had inferior intellect, her success would make their career look easy. Her presence became the subject of controversy, as debates between the Unathi about tradition vs Izweski liberalism sparked in violence on campus. This almost jeopardized her status as a student, as faculty found her to be too much of a distraction. However, with the help of a few human friends, she proved her worth, and demonstrated to the faculty that she was just as good of a student as anyone else. Don't let this fool you however, quite a few of the Human Martians had terrible feelings towards all alien life, and targeted Azala especially as the other Unathi wouldn't stand up for her. As to them she was either a disappointment to their race or even if they were more liberal, they didn't want to deal with the backlash of helping a Guwan from the other more assertive Unathi. Azala-Tar Guwan graduated and became qualified to work in robotics at Nanotrasen. She specializes in prosthetics and their maintenance. During her time at Mars University she was able to leave behind a part of her shell, and was finally able to socialize with people other than imaginary friends, or bullies. She has been assigned to Aurora station, where she hopes to help her fellow crew with her robotic creations. She developed some interesting ideas since proper university. She gained a newfound political perspective she couldn't afford to have before. She views the Izweski Hegemony and their objectives in high regard, as without them she more than likely wouldn't be in any state like she was now. She understands they aren't perfect, but can't help but be thankful that some part of her people were able to open the doors to cooperation with other species. Which in the end let her be herself. She feels the hegemony is the best bet for the evolution of Unathi to the social level of other species. She adopted strange views on AI while at the campus. Because of her lowered status as a being in the past, she tends to remark about the freedoms of synthetic beings or AI. Comparing them to a younger version of herself that existed years ago. She can sometimes be seen wearing clothing that advocates for the rights of synthetics, as if she was able to get rights, so should all other thinking and feeling machines. Azala has a long way to go, It takes awhile to build up her trust, as she has become naturally defensive. She is much more open and relaxed with people not of her own kind. Being around other Unathi stresses Azala, and she avoids conversation with them if possible. What do you like about this character? I think this is a character that has a long way to go, and that is the main appeal. The backstory ends on a bit of a good note, but this is a character that has had to deal with nothing but bad experiences wherever she went somewhere for the first time. She is going to know no one at Aurora and will more than likely inadvertently cause trouble with fellow Unathi. She can't escape being property, but she is playing her cards as best as she can and is gambling she will be the happiest in the life of a wage slave rather than a starving street bum. The most interesting thing for me is to experiment with her philosophical evolution on the rights of AI and when they get personhood. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would like to think I am fairly good at role-playing. I have been doing it for years, between forum roleplay or through other video game mediums like World of Warcraft. I also play an excessive amount of Dungeons and Dragons, and I am always the talkative one of the group. I'll be completely honest when I say that I am still learning all of the commands and systems involved, so my movement is still going to be sloppy in game, but I should be able to articulate myself and the character well through conversation. Notes: Thank you for considering me and my application, and thank you especially to Jenpai Sackboot and the lore_channel of the discord for answering my questions and helping me prepare for this application. If you have any criticisms, corrections or suggestions on how to improve my backstory please let me know.
  14. Telecommunications Ladies and gentlemen, I feel like we have untapped potential when it comes to communications on and outside the station. Nanotrasen has provided us with state of the art and complex radio communications (when it's working) and convenient instant messaging software (when it's used). As it stands right now, all of this traffic is managed by the AI. This, as proven time and time and again is fairly dangerous. The lawset in of itself hampers an AI's ability to be able to interpret the nature of communications and make decisions freely when given information. The AI is busy, and is focused on making sure the crew doesn't choke on their own vomit or accidently blow up the space station. The AI is incapable of doing things outside of it's limited access to do things a human can do, and an AI lacks the creativity that a Telecommunications Officer can bring to the station. I propose the new job/role of Telecommunications, a Science level position that works independently of the science department in monitoring all communications in and around the station. This position would report to the Research Director and the Head of Security depending on what incidents would arise. This person would have the following responsibilities What would be done to facilitate this new job? Preemptive answers to possible questions Please, let me know what you think and feel free to add on with your own suggestions. If we reach a consensus on a 'good thing' I'll pin it on this post. Another possiblity is that we can shirk this responsibility onto another job. However I feel like this idea has potential to blossom on it's own.
  15. It's not often that security likes cargo so much that they make an entire cake baking operation around thanking them for the help. Ellie Shoshana was a major factor for why that happened. Seems to know what they are doing. +1
