Staff of Extended round 11/22/2014 12:00PM-2:00PM CST

Either make ERP against the rules or don't. Because right now it's a beginner's trap, and it's just an excuse to, frankly, abuse power. I have no problem with it being against the rules but make it against the rules instead of making it an opportunity to take your boredom out on somebody. It comes off as petty and immature when stuff like this happens. It's "heavy RP" not "heavy RP unless the admins think you're slightly too saucy in which case it becomes goonstation" -
A guide to The Church of The Great Pizza Surprise Pack

It's silly, stupid, and amazing, and I love it. Some people want the game to be all srs bsns, but I think a bit of space crazy adds spice to the game. -
I noticed recently in a ban appeal someone (Launch-Box) seemed to have a full list of staff notes about themselves. Is there somewhere we can actually access our notes? If not, how did he get them? Because I'd be curious to see mine, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I don't think EVERY borg, but Engineering and Mining for sure. I'd really like to see some or all of these changes to medborgs because in RP they make sense but in game mechanics they are completely worthless unless they hang out 24/7 with a chemist.

Maybe it'd be something to consider to create a separate player class (almost like another whitelist) of people who, while they have no administrative privileges, rights, or duties out of character, can act as a Nanotrasen representative and respond to faxes as appropriate? I imagine this would be much more selective than normal whitelisting and should be only for very regular players who are particularly trustworthy. But it's something to think about, I think.

I think a ban is in order, for everyone.

Holy shit that's fantastic.

Player Complaint: TheNitrosKiller2
LetzShake replied to Davidchan's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
If things happened as you've written this might be one of the most thorough and textbook examples of shitcurity I've ever seen. I'm amazed. -
I think the way to make mining a bit more attractive is what TG did. They added depth by making ores not visible, added gibtonite, some monsters in the richer part of the asteroid (that give a reward when they're defeated) and creating more tools. The miner doesn't feel like a full fledged job, how it is now. It's like if the chef could only make pies, burgers, and donk pockets.

So if the two tied minority modes add up to more than the majority mode, it'll RNG between the three? That seems a bit more reasonable I guess but I think it's still fixing something that's not really broken. Either way you get a lot of unhappy people. In an ideal world we could do something like have a vote, then the two options that get the most votes get put up to a second vote but that's probably too time consuming

Does the IAA have a fax machine in their office? If not, they really should, that addition alone would help a ton. That said, I think making it a white listed position in the same categories as heads is a good decision, because they're loyalty implanted from the start and it shouldn't be one of the go-to positions for chucklefucks like it's kind of turned into (not that long ago, I played a round where I had to flash an IAA who was trying to strangle a cultist to death as the cultist was being arrested). Make it whitelisted, then give them ID computer access, maybe, with the understanding that abusing this access will result in a jobban

I think this really makes the problem worse. Now it'll always be possible some round almost nobody wants will get played. One chucklefuck votes for ninja, now suddenly we have a broken mode that nobody likes in based on random chance. Hell there's times when Nuke gets a majority and can't start because a lot of people don't want nuke so nobody readies up. I don't think there's really a good way to improve the voting system, as it is now. You can't please everyone, but this is the best way to handle it for now. The only way I'd really change it, is not make it a coinflip if the vote's a tie. Do a revote, or something.

Or at least make it spray liquid fuel all over

So is Christianity, really. Ever take a peek a revelations? Grim shit, and they're happy for it to happen. Being a follower of Nar'sie who is not a cultist can simply mean you think humanity is evil, and take blood rites and similar things to be metaphor. You don't believe you can truly bring ghosts into the material plane, you just think it's a metaphor for how evil done in the real world is not easily forgotten just because someone passes on, and a belief in the afterlife. And Sue, not everyone is looking for SS13 to be super real srsbsns world all the time. Most of the things in this game are silly or ridiculous. We're in space with fax machines. People already do dumb things all the time. This isn't going to change much.

"I am so bad at computers!" The voice comes before the picture, on the connection. Eventually the webcam turns on, mostly obscured by something hanging in front of its view. Behind it, Crystal could sort of be seen, sitting at her computer in a baggy dirty white Ian t-shirt. The place she was in was small, obviously some sort of space based apartment. She leaned forward, with a little giggle. "Oh... wait, my camera's blocked." She 'totally accidentally' showed some of her cleavage as her baggy shirt hung down after she batted away the discarded garment that had been placed over the camera. Underwear, it seemed. Her room was a pigsty, and her hair was a mess but she didn't seem to care much. "Hey, Aurora's newest Chief Medical Officer, here and author of 'A Guide to Medicine' parts one and two!" She held up one finger, then two fingers for emphasis. "I'm here to unofficially answer whatever medical questions ya might have, or chemistry questions, or even bar and cooking questions because I'm good at that stuff too!" The intro was obviously a bit old, the doctor's hair shorter than she wears it now, and the many empty liquor bottles that litter her room giving it away, since she'd apparently quit drinking. It was likely nobody had bothered looking her up until more recently. But here it was. "So go on, Ask Doctor Crystal!"

This should be an Event, where an STD starts spreading through the station. It would be silly. Really, if you track people Dandy's slept with (or at least ALMOST slept with) you could probably do something like this and infect half the station. Space AIDS is scurry.

That leaves plenty of room for RP. The person can choose how to react, realistically, and if they disappear the death can be investigated. And it makes sense in character to be quiet about it. Noone has any reason to suspect it? A person needed surgery and then they were never heard from again, I'd say that's fairly suspicious. Cult is a tricky situation but that definitely shouldn't count as a strike against Tina, who handles it well consistently and mixes it up (I've seen Taina go stealth cult, peace cult, and violent cult, all). As for having a head of staff, Romeo is also consistently cult, it doesn't seem to make a big difference.
-
I can't +1 this enough. Taina is a fantatic RPer and knows the medbay very well. I don't think I've ever had any reason to criticize them in all the times we've played.

I like this. Better for intelligent use, less good for griefing. Especially if it does less damage and lights on fire, for a firetrap, which means RP is possible.

The atmos techs (along with everyone else active) on the station said to call the shuttle. My character does not know atmos. I, out of character, do not know Atmos. I deferred to their expertise. In the future I'll try ERT first when there's not an immediate threat to life and limb going on, as Scopes told me. Also, a lot of the SOP that pertains to this is either unwritten or not readily available. I've read through the SOP article on the wiki a lot of times and the only reference to the ERT there is talking about Red Alerts. If there's a separate one for this server it should be a bit more readily available.

Imidazoline does work in pill form, I think. I've never used it as eyedrops.

We definitely had a suicide vest on goon, a hundred years ago. It was specifically built from a health scanner, and was designed to go off in the event of the wearer's death. Not sure how it evolved since then

This is an issue that was brought to the forefront of my mind by a recent discussion, but the results of the 'illegal' research path in R&D are not all illegal, and it's caused some IC issues before that they're labelled as such (usually with a particularly curious AI or Cyborg.) The path, as it is right now, does not require antagonist items to begin, and then can be raised up as far as level 6 using only items from the protolathe. As far as I can recall, besides possibly the freedom implant, none of the items available from the protolathe are particularly illegal. The crossbow would be, in the same way that any gun would be. The freedom implant's the only one that doesn't really have a legitimate use. The rest of the items (Binary encryption key, energy shield, chameleon jumpsuit, can't remember if there are others) all are very mild and don't really have a ton of direct illegal use.

Here I can admit possible fault. While I have played Head of Staff often, I have not really ever had to play Head of Staff along with other heads of staff during an emergency scenario. I felt that I didn't have time to do a lot of consulting and discussion when there were time bombs all over the station. I probably could've handled this better, but both IC and OOC, it was a fairly new scenario. Nehma is rather mild mannered, and hasn't dealt with serious danger before. That said, I did announce my intention to assume the role of acting captain. This is really purely an IC thing, I think. The only reason he mentioned it was because he unwittingly walked into a surgery in progress with a dead body in tow, because the surgeon didn't have the light on. He's no doctor so he assumed someone walking into surgery is a really bad idea and could lead to infections or what have you. He probably overestimates the importance of a perfectly clean environment in surgery a bit (I know, as a player, that someone walking into surgery won't result in an infection. Nehma, as a character, does not know that.) That said, if I was wrong for not speaking to you first about it, then having you tell the person, then fair enough, I'll be more careful about it in the future. But I think it was pretty natural for Nehma to say it himself, as it had just directly happened to him. As far as I'm aware, there's no IC knowledge that the chameleon suit is anything more than "a kinda neat thing", so Nehma saw no problem using one. Originally he'd had it set to a dress but when it came time to assume Captain, he just set it to the thing that was at the top of the list and liked how it saw. As far as I'd seen in the Identifying Antagonist guide, it's not listed as an illegal item, unless it's used to imitate a restricted item. That said, I can see how a Central Command jumpsuit could fall into that category, and will avoid it in the future. Nehma just liked how it looked. As for the lawgiver, as I recall, I'd kept it stuffed in the locker in my office most of the round except when I was acting captain and had reason to believe there was a terrorist on the loose, at which point... well I think it was a pretty reasonable thing to keep a weapon on you and that was the weapon I happened to have most readily available. It's a habit of Nehma, specifically, as a character, to keep trophies of especially advanced research to bring back to central command. Usually with the Lawgiver, which i used to keep on me but realized that's probably shady, I keep it in the locker until the end of the shift. But usually if research has gone well, Nehma brings a couple of discs of research back to central. And most importantly about the lawgiver was during the meeting with Issek, the Captain, and you, I was autoantagged. At which point I scrapped any plans to stow my lawgiver or give additional ones to the captain or Head of Security (I actually had the ones I was going to give them in my bag, and was going to do it at the end of the meeting, then I got antagged and decided NOPE.) in favor of my plan to kidnap Issek at gunpoint for her bounty, which failed when I wasn't able to isolate her. It's been a learning process playing head on a serious RP server. So I'm not trying to dismiss your complaints, I'm just trying to explain my reasoning, in character, and out, for my actions, so that you understand they aren't just out of malicious powergaming. I know the mechanics of the game well but fully and seriously following proper procedure on a full sized populated station has been something I've been learning. Nehma is, as a character, a bit more cavalier about stepping out of regulations though he's also 'safe' about it (he might break the law but unless he's an antag he wouldn't ever use lethal force on anyone. And even then usually not). edit: That came out longer than I expected. Sorry if I seem a bit defensive, guess I'm a little nervous about having a formal complaint against me.
