I apologized in what, I guess, could be read as a half-assed way earlier in the thread, so I'll be more clear here. I apologize for my remark. I should've expressed myself in a way that wasn't... I can't quite think of a word for it. Sassy sounds nonserious for the situation. Snarky, I guess? In any case I definitely admit what I said was wrong, and I'm sorry.
-
I disagree wholeheartedly. Even if you're not the center of antag action, doesn't mean something's not going on. Not everyone can be around the antag unless it's a bad antag who's going around blowing everything up. Antags should create fun but some antags like changelings and vampires are inherently stealthy. And if you make it so bored players can just go "fuck the round" in two hours or less, you'll end up creating more chucklefucky antags. Like cultists who use bombs.
-
Well this blew up a little more than I expected. Or even wanted. So I'll address first, again, that I recognize that I was out of line. I definitely could've and should've expressed my opinion in a less sass-filled way. I don't agree that it rises to the level of 'insult' but I didn't handle it right. I just think when you go straight to threatening punishment like a mute as a first recourse instead of talking to someone, you're needlessly escalating things, when they could be handled with a much more civil "That was rude, you should apologize" or something similar instead of a "I'm going to mute you" before I can breathe.
-
I was going to say it's bad because a non-head has no access to their department's account, but this means that cargo would have to keep bookkeeping records of what each department owes them. Which is good RP, I think.
-
No, you didn't take away my ability to apologize. But when it just comes to "Now you're muted, k." rather than anything resembling dialogue, it kind of ruins the possibility of any sincere apology.
-
Like I said, I can admit I didn't handle my disagreement with more tact and I'm sorry for putting it that way. And I probably would've apologized if I'd had ten seconds to breathe before you went straight to "I'mmutingyou" which kind of shut down dialogue. But if 'uptight' is that serious of an insult to you, I think maybe there's more to it than just the surface. And while I agree that the staff are volunteers and doing us a service, that doesn't put you above disagreement or criticism, either. I love the server and the staff, I just think this is a pretty hasty jump of force based on a pretty hasty jump to start with.

BYOND Key: Letz Shake Staff BYOND Key: Dea Tacita Reason for complaint: Excessive/Disproportionate punishment Evidence/logs/etc: Someone mentioned tattoos and called them Tatas leading to this conversation OOC: Aqy: the word Tattoo actually comes from Polynesian culture. Tata means repeated and oo means color. So Tattoo literally is repeated color. OOC: Kingmatt9: in american culture, 'tata' means something completely differnt. OOC: Sleepy Wolf: like OOC: Sleepy Wolf: tatas OOC: Kingmatt9: eh, melons. OOC: NursieKitty: really. OOC: Conspire2Ignite: Okay. Can we pretend that username faux pas never happened? Yes? Good? No one cares? Good! OOC: Aqy: It's said tat-a not Ta-ta. You massive butt. OOC: LeonMiguel: baps OOC: Dea Tacita: Lets not talk about breasticles in OOC OOC: Letz Shake: uptight levels reaching critical mass Moderator PM from-Dea Tacita: Hiya! You'll be receiving a OOC mute for the round due to that. You have been muted from OOC. PM to-Dea Tacita: That is the most colossal overreaction. Moderator PM from-Dea Tacita: If you feel as if it is an innappropriate level of action, please file a complaint on the forums. Moderator PM from-Dea Tacita: inappropriate* That was the extent of the interaction. I think Dea massively overreacted on both accounts to the faint nonexplicit mention of breasts in OOC, and then to me calling them out on it in what I admit was not the most tactful way. But still, jumping straight to an OOC mute from that is pretty ridiculous. Additional remarks: It's not very serious. I'm not calling for any serious action. But I do think there should be a discussion about use of moderator power to silence any kind of disagreement instantly.

Yes, you can, but you really shouldn't HAVE to. The scanner should be able to tell the difference. It makes no sense, IC.

@ChuckLeFuck rescreeched this @ChuckLeFuck~ @BaldPolish Now 50% more #robust! - This is my shit. I blinded a space carp by reflecting light off my head and killed it with a pickaxe! True story!

Kiwi's great. +1 for sure, not really a lot to add, just a standup guy, I've been playing with them for a bit, I think they were on Alium when I was as well.
-
I think this is brilliant. We don't have an antag mode where antags are opposed to each other, really. Sometimes if you're a ling with moron compatriots you might want to kill them, but otherwise, no.
-
If you could, add Nazih Jawdat to my characters?
-
@ChuckLeFuch rescreeched this @ChuckLeFuck- @SinghKing-I have no idea why CC even employs bald people anymore, they always fuck everything up. - Because fuck you, asshole, I'm better at my job than you ever will be - Charles LeFuchs

I'm generally against removing things because people suck at RP. However some of the suggestions in this thread sound good. I just dunno how much of a priority it'd be for devs.
-
@DoubleDoctor rescreeched this ~@DoubleDoctor~ @SleepyMelody That's so gross! but hilarious. I hope he took a bath in sterilizine after.

Everything in this game is makeshift and/or ugly in some way. The game is limited like that. The pool is used for RP every now and then, I don't see a problem with it. Hell it's probably used for RP more than the toilets are and nobody's removing those.

~@DoubleDoctor~: Even with the station at war, we stay focused, we treat everyone, and we don't take sides. People joke about the medbay but we're the rock in the goddamn storm. #StayNeutral

[Accepted] Deathly Whitelist App
LetzShake replied to DeathlySoul's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I think looking at a particular character for the whitelist rather than the RPer is a bit backwards. It's not just a whitelist for one character, so why does just that one character matter? Judge the player, not the character, and the player's solid. +1 -
Valkrae's Tajara Application
LetzShake replied to Valkrae's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Usually in a scenario where someone cats rats and is given a new lease on life, their criminal record is expunged, or sometimes they aren't charged at all. -
Actually I believe even in the case of nonlethal threats both in real life and as part of Security's SOP, you are authorized to use lethal force. Because once they down you, they can do anything they want to you. That said I think security should use nonlethal methods in general, HOWEVER the problem is tasers are really nigh-useless in an actual combat situation because people just ignore pain crit until the game drops them. So that leaves flash weapons and stun batons, both of which are sometimes quite unreliable. Gunplay in this game in general just leads to problems, and while I think your suggestions are well thought out, ultimately the problem is too deep to be fixed with this.

They already have an open objective. The nuke doesn't even actually work anymore as far as I'm aware.

Newest screeches start from the top. @FlyingHawkSwoop rescreeched this. Chef Vortivask --- @DoubleDoctor: Not gonna say who, but a I got a mobile request from an off-duty prison guard asking me to prescribe him male enhancement pills. #Babydick #CocktailWiener #StackOfButtons #MineIsBigger @DoubleDoctor: Sick of hiding it. BYOND Key: Letz Shake Character Names: Crystal Brookes, Chef (And various other names) Vortivask, Nehma Ga'dan, Stephanos Remes, D.I.G.S.U.P. (Mining Borg). How long have you been playing on Aurora:I'm not sure exactly how long. I feel like it's been about half a year Species you are applying to play: Tajaran What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Diona exempt): Kochiba RGB 107, 68, 35 - (Hereditary from his Mother) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Both the Ahdomai, and Tajara pages as well as the bay pages even though those don't necessarily apply. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I have always liked the Tajaran. I played a Tajaran character extensively on Alium Deathtrap (Mishaal Ga'dan, adopted father to Nehma Ga'dan) and when Jackboot proposed expanding the family of Houssam, I was inspired to make a new fleshed out Tajaran character of my own, who could be different than my other characters. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Tajaran are not dissimilar to some ethnicities and nationalities within real life humanity but in the world of Aurora, humanity is different. The background of oppression for humans is mostly gone, regardless of race. However the sting of the boot in their race's collective back is still very fresh for most Tajaran and changes a lot about them, whether it's visible on the surface, or not. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? The planetary turmoil and fluid political environment provides a lot of chance for exciting roleplay in response to changing situations. While space is a rather sterile, safe place, for humanity, for Tajaran there's still a lot of room for organic growth. Character Name: Nazih Jawdat Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Nazih grew up at an age where he was both able to see the advantages of the 'civilized' human-run space in the cities , and the horrors and famines of post-revolution in the outskirts of Ahdomai. Nazih, unlike his older brother Houssam, was not old enough to truly know his parents. All he has to remember them by is vague, cloudy memories. To him, Fayis, his uncle, was his 'father' in many ways. Even as the old man has grown feeble and maybe even unstable from PTSD, to the point that he is incapable of caring for himself, Nazih treats him with the utmost respect. As the second oldest brother of the Jawdat family, Nazih respects his older brother and his leadership, though they often clash in their leadership styles. Houssam is more careful, Nazih, though an intellectual peer to his brother, can be brash and somewhat reckless, though not dangerously so. It is clear that there is some envy from Nazih, who aspires to sit in the proverbial throne of their newly born organization. Despite those feelings, he would never take direct action to usurp Houssam. They are family and he is still loyal to the family first. Nazih aspires to become a doctor, finding the profession admirable, both for the ability to give life, and an overall fascination with the vital processes that make up every living thing. Seeing all the angles has always been important to him, so seeing all the angles that make a living creature move and act as they do is a natural fascination. Because of this aspiration, he began working for Nanotrasen in various civilian capacities, most often as a miner, which he hates, and a cargo technician. With his brother's financial assistance, and more importantly, Houssam's assistance navigating the red tape of Nanotrasen's aspiring doctor training programs, he was able to secure a working internship as a pharmaceutical technician while he attends medical school. With his acceptance into this program, Nazih was transferred to employment aboard NSS Aurora. A bit longer than called for, I know, but there was a lot to cover. What do you like about this character? He's quite different than my other characters who are generally 'good' and 'nice'. While he's not evil, he is much more self serving than my others. I also like the dynamic family ties, and conflicting loyalties he feels. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I feel I've improved since I started playing on Aurora. I'm overcoming my previous weaknesses of seeing antag rounds as something to 'win'. I've been roleplaying a long time, so my weakness was not so much my roleplay, but thinking of SS13 moreso as a roleplay than a game. So I don't know what numerical value I could give my RPing skill but I think I'm a fairly solid roleplayer, and try to put myself as solidly into the mindset of my character as I can. Notes: I do have a bit of experience playing a Tajaran (a true one, not just Nehma who has some Taj tendencies) on Alium, though the lore's quite a bit different here and now, I'm excited to adapt to it at last, though I resisted before.

Not often I agree with you, but I definitely mostly do, here. Except this. It comes from Goon. It's a much older artifact than just TG. And it was just as murderbony then. Though at least back then E Swords, bombs, and Revolvers were pretty much the only non-improvised weapons. But it was at least sort of balanced, because the weapons weren't as ridiculous as they are now. The thing is I think we need an alternative to Nuke and Heist. Heist has aliens that are drastically different from the crew so they can't go stealth, and Nuke, stealth isn't as viable. A mode that is like those two, but encourages stealth, would be great.

I have to be honest... isn't this what flashbangs are for? While I agree this sounds badly executed, the concept, in itself doesn't seem wrong. I feel like too many people expect all hostage situations to end with negotiation and hostage-takers to get their demands (not saying you do, but this comes up, semi-often). In real life hostage situations most often end with an organized breach by a security team. He shouldn't have done it alone, he should've coordinated with other security officers. But I don't know if this is outright worthy of a complaint. It makes sense for a breach and attempted rescue to happen in this situation. Just not one that badly done.
