  1. I don't know if I just don't know how to treat them (Spaceacillin, sterilizine, dylovene) but I've been having a problem lately where someone with severe wounds, no matter how well those wounds were treated comes back with severe internal infections that quickly spread, then bring the person down and kill them so fast that even cryo can't save them (and also keeps their body temperature so high, Cryo really CAN'T save them.) I managed to, with frantic constant injection of dylovene and spaceacillin, that required constant attention for nearly half an hour of real time, save a patient, whose infection went away entirely. Then, what happens? He reports he's not feeling well, again, even when the body scanner reported him as being completely clean of infection, and drops dead before he even makes it back to the medbay. I think internal infections (of organs, and internal tissue) spread and kill way too fast and seem to be impossible to treat. Unless I'm missing something on how to treat them.
  2. Exactly right. The idea is to make it function like... well every other role, where if it isn't full, you should be able to fill it. I understand Robotics needs a job, but it's pretty unreliable to get to be a cyborg through them.
  3. I don't know anything about coding, except that it's fucking voodoo magic.
  4. I choked a violent changeling to death using only a spray bottle, yesterday. It's a really satisfying experience to win using your character's skills but I don't think we should hard-code it. I really think the way it's currently handled, as just being a product of roleplay is best.
  5. I would really like this as well. It's not rare at all that I want to join the round as a borg, but it's too late, so I don't join it at al. I've tried doing it IC, but people are damn reluctant to do borgifications.
  6. Sierra's always seemed like a good player and levelheaded. Good person to have around, for sure.
  7. You seem to have a basic interest which is good but it's really important you read the lore. I recommend you start with - http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=340 And also http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tajara and http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Adhomai To get an idea of what the Tarjars are all about. There's more to Tajaran than being a cat that talks in third person and rolls their rs. Also, it's worth dialing it back on the Rs. Don't overseason your writing with it, and more importantly don't do it in narration. Maybe occasionally as a joke (my Tajaran sometimes labels pill bottles as 'Derrrmaline') but less is more, to be sure. Tajaran tend to have more arabic-sounding names. Not always, but that's the most common naming convention for them. Also, keep in mind that Tajaran subspecies affect what color they are. An orange Tajaran working on the station is quite unlikely because that color is a genetic trait of the Njarir'Akhran, which are Tajaran nobility. The backstory could use work. I like the idea of a security officer who decides he wants to go to engineering school, but you should write more about him as a person, too. What was his life like before? What led him to where he is today, that kind of thing? This is lacking, but it's definitely not hopeless, I think you just need to really sit with it and put some real effort in. A part of that will also be to write more carefully, proper grammar and spelling, and that sort of thing. If you have any more questions about Tajaran, feel free to ask, I'm sure our Tajara loremaster Sue checks these threads, among others, so I'm sure you can get them answered. Edit: Okay you added a little, but there's definitely more to the species than a speech pattern! Oh and I'd definitely remove the whole part about cuddling. Trust me, you don't want to go down that path here. It will only lead to bad responses from people.
  8. Yes me and Frances made them at around the same time, stemming from the same incident. Frances' post is more detailed and better organized, but mine also mentions the Sue incident of the other day that I also think is worth addressing. I expect they'll probably be merged. It is, a little bit. Maybe not specifically but I meant that the standards of what is acceptable seems to be pretty wildly different for users and staff. I guarantee if anyone else said that about Sue they would've probably gotten a pretty stern talking to, at best. I know if it was my server, and someone called a member of my staff a 'he/she' I would be giving that person a boot in pretty hasty fashion.
  9. This is the real reason I'm glad you're gone. Anyone who thinks you're an asshole is a 'mary sue' or a 'snowflake'. You don't belong on a heavy RP server. Hopefully more of your ilk are soon to follow. Well if you call snuggling with medbay nurses, roleplay, whilst people are dying from changelings, tators, newcops, I don't know why I should belong to this "heavy roleplay server" at all now. After all, the decency on the snow flakiness of it is end high, I just wanted to mostly interact with people, cause conflicts to then solve them for fun, not sit my arse and snuggle someone else by tapping the keyboard /me snuggle like a retard every few five minutes. I'm glad I won't be seeing people like you, because you're a disgusting individual after all, not reliant to even talk to anymore. If you seek to have an argument, you're not getting anything from me anymore. Now crawl back where you came from. "Anyone who disagrees with me must be an ERPer" Yeah no, not how it works. I know it's hard for you to understand that not everyone who actually RPs is a snowflake while you play as the guy who thinks he runs the station. And fortunately, I don't have to crawl back where I came from because I'm not the one who got myself banned. So, I'd say 'see ya' but fortunately, I don't have to worry about seeing you. And neither does anyone else on this server.
  10. I knew George Melons personally actually. I played with him. he wasn't a bad player at all. He was a lot less ganky than Techno. Sometimes you don't have to argue, people make your point for you. This is the real reason I'm glad you're gone. Anyone who thinks you're an asshole is a 'mary sue' or a 'snowflake'. You don't belong on a heavy RP server. Hopefully more of your ilk are soon to follow.
  11. I don't think there's a 'hard' answer for this, unfortunately. I think it's case by case. One certain situation is, if someone is pointing a gun at you, right now, that is a time you should not be fighting them. If you can duck behind a corner without getting hit, then maybe that's a reasonable thing to try but generally speaking if the armed person is focused on you, you should not do anything but what they say. For me, as an RPer, my rules of 'engagement' are: 1. Is there a weapon (a GOOD one) within reach or on my person. Toolboxes and fire extinguishers are iffy and depend on how the other person is armed. Something that's more likely to stun is fine. this also depends on the perceived physical strength of my character. If I was playing, say, Nehma, my research director, I would be less likely to attempt combat than Crystal, my tough, stout, fighty doctor. But again, it depends on what they're armed with, and what I'm armed with. 2. Could I realistically reach it without them noticing, or would I only succeed in grabbing it because of game mechanics? This is important. Is the antags focus drawn elsewhere or would they, ICly, be looking straight at me. Could I make a move on them before the ycould react? How big is the weapon and where is it? 3. Am I likely going to die or be maimed if I start this fight? Don't charge into certain death. Simple. 4. Am I likely going to die, be maimed, or suffer a fate worse than death if I don't start this fight? If an antag is going to sell me as a sex slave, and they've got the handcuffs in their hands, and I will have no other chance to escape, maybe fuck it.
  12. I don't agree with stats being implemented. Because combat experience is a thing but when it comes down to it, when it's human against human a guy with a toolbox and the element of surprise beats a dude with a gun sometimes. Not always. Unpredictability is good. I don't think people should seek out fights, but I don't thing antags should be able to get complacent that everyone is gonna submit to them because sometimes someone is gonna fight back. Humans are humans, and the physical differences are still limited. And I don't think people fight back all that often, I think we're in a good place, as that goes. It's about picking your spot, if it makes sense for your character to fight back. I think having a full gambit of potential responses to antag situations is a good thing for roleplay and for realism.
  13. BYOND Key: Letz Shake Staff BYOND Key: ChrisCa and Aqy Reason for complaint: Using staff position to try and silence a civil discussion because they didn't like the inoffensive subject AND in my opinion because they didn't agree with the majority opinion of the discussion. Evidence/logs/etc: http://pastebin.com/X8FBYd7b Additional remarks: This complaint is moreso about ChrisCA. Chris, almost every time I have seen him enter the game, which is pretty infrequently, will spout gibberish into the OOC (literal just keysmash garbage), type in all caps, and is often belligerent or behaves in a way that, if it wasn't done by a member of staff, would probably have them pretty quickly shunned by the community. Aside from this incident, where he comes in, decides he doesn't like the OOC conversation's subject matter and basically shouts that it MUST stop, there was a more severe incident recently that came to mind where he entered the chat, and, without much context as I can recall began badmouthing fellow staff member SueTheCake in some pretty offensive ways. Aside from questioning why she's a member of staff because of her hiatus, he went on to call her a 'he/she' and a 'guy who wants to be a girl'. I don't think you need to be a super-liberal SJW type to think that's pretty damn offensive to say about ANYONE nevermind a member of our community. I don't have logs of that unfortunately but I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw it, if Chris decides to deny what he said. Aqy is included because I think a discussion of how we handle OOC conversations is definitely warranted. I disagree with Aqy trying to shut things up (and eventually calling in Tablespoon to do that, since I guess they don't have the authority to, themselves?). I think Aqy was definitely in the wrong to seek to have all of OOC muted, even if you were to cede that there was something said in the whole discussion were 'insulting' given it was such a small amount compared to the otherwise civil discussion at large. When I disagreed, entirely, Aqy challenged me to make a staff complaint. So here I am. I'm not writing this because I want or expect some action to be taken against Aqy. I just think it's worth discussing the way OOC is regulated because this isn't the first time I've seen the threat of silencing OOC used as something of a bludgeon when I don't think it should be done so lightly. Relevant logs are uncut save for IC information which I cut because nothing IC was involved in the discussion. Includes PMs between myself and Aqy.
  14. That is a good idea, I think, especially since they don't HAVE to kill people to acquire genomes anymore. Though it was written in the past, at least, that a Changeling had to have at least murdered the crew member they replaced to get on board, so that's why they were previously considered to always be hostile. I don't know what the excuse is now.
  15. The NAME is from half-Life. But Lamarr is a facehugger. Facehuggers look pretty different from Headcrabs and LaMarr is definitely sprited the same as a facehugger. I've been told that guide doesn't apply, before. I use it some, but what's the official stance? Because this has come up before particularly in Changeling rounds. I love this server but I think a lack of documentation on differences from the standard can be a big weakness of ours.
  16. The first but not last, hopefully. There's definitely a niche of people who stick around just to be asshats. I expect this thread to consist of said people advertising themselves. The fact that you seem so proud of being banned I think tells anyone that this was the right call.
  17. I love it. Cool story, and a great idea for a character. I love doctors who take the hippocratic oath. Not many around here do, I think. +1
  18. I almost never see female characters in medbay anymore. and when I do one of them is Phoebe.
  19. Do you even know what Mary Sue means? In the last couple of days I've seen you throw that term at fucking EVERYTHING, and honestly you seem to apply it to literally anything that involves RP over just shooting the shit out of everything. I wasn't in this round specifically but I can say, I think just about every time I've been in a round with Techno playing Kaipov, I see some shades of this kind of attitude. The idea that Kaipov thinks he's the damn boss of the station because he's a security officer. I don't know if it's just his character or if it's that TechnoKat really thinks because he thinks he's the most robust or something that he needs to run everything. Honestly it really seems like you don't like RP. You seem to get angry any time the server's not on a violent antagonist round.
  20. I don't care about a mechanical advantage. I just wouldn't wnat to be unfixably destroyed at the drop of a hat every shift.
  21. Crystal Brookes - Competent, dedicated doctor. Failure at life. Lonely and fairly socially incompetent, she tends to fall apart in the face of stress outside of the area of her job. Fifty dying patients? Sure she'll give it a go without falling apart, but anything else? She's not ready for it. "I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue" Nehma Ga'dan - Older gentleman, research director. Somewhat feminine. Adopted by a Tajara family after the death of his parents aboard a Nanotrasen vessel. Married. "He does all he can in the name of progress." Chef Vortivask - Surly, ornery chef and botanist. A long time Nanotrasen employee. Quick to anger, not always quick to fight. A man who has seen some shit "Eat this with a bowl of cereal." Artie Dilligence - Either a surgical addict or a victim of unauthorized medical experimentation. Full of faulty artificial organs. Seeks to be cyborgified. You shouldn't ever see this character, since he's who I pick when I want to be Borg or AI. Jervis Cottonbotty- A propergentleman of an AI or Cyborg. Always concerned with the pleasure of the crew above just about all else. A lover of fun, excitement, and detective novels. At least once has solved a station mystery and saved the crew. Stephanos Remes - A large, hearty man. A warm, friendly Head of Personnel who tries to always treat the crew well, and is very protective of them. Akilah El-Amin - A young journalist from Ahdomai. The sheltered, protected, snobby child of a noble, she could not be more out of place.
  22. Yeah... this sounds like a really frustrating mechanic in the name of 'balance'. I don't understand why anybody would play an IPC with them in this state.
  23. But at the same time, it's actually exactly what I think we need, to some degree. Not like full-SJW "he looked at my funny" 'microaggressions' but small, quiet to moderate racism. What MeowMoo posted would be a fantastic example if not for the meowing. Still good.
