  1. Considering the amount of IC knowledge the interns have to grasp as well as finite round duration and IRL counterparts having the option to choose your speciality would ease the integration process of the new players. It's HRP, not dark souls. Some newbie-friendliness will benefit the station and the community
  2. Reread the suggestion. Revised regulations pertaining merchants and the specifics of his training practice, additional duties of the QM and additional areas are some of the things suggested above.
  3. cadets and residents are working under medics and officers/detectives because becoming a medic or an officer/detective requires cadetship/residency. Forensic technician does not require cadetship, it doesn't rely on discipline, it can't use regular assistants or cadets as trainees (because some amount of education is required to work in the lab), it can't use residents or lab assistants as trainees because the people who took respective position expected to learn the work as a specific department and are stocked with specific access which makes transferring them to another department a huge headache. All of the above is why a specific job title for investigative assistants is required. If interns being a generic role and not having an alt title is some sort of a principle (however assistants have an alt title of visitors and are doing just fine) then just make another slot for investigative assistants instead of making it an alt title
  4. Neat. Morgue trays could also use a slot to hold clipboards
  5. If the only (or one of the few) machine that can make disks would be in the merchant's posession, coming to play only if someone would buy it off of him that would actually be pretty easy to control. A merchant that makes disks with cancerous music recieves a job ban, problem solved. (totally not stolen from lifeweb)
  6. It would be but griefing is punishable and can be dealt with by admins and jukeboxes are relatively rare. Moreover Aurora doesn't have a whole lot of griefing going on as is so it should be fine (?)
  7. cqc code definitely needs some work for the issues listed. However maybe since it's currently on its lowest maybe it's time to revise the entirety of it instead of fixing local problems and bugs? Introduce some new features, change the way mechanics work?
  8. Looks pretty cool and seems to have no issue with balance. The only problem for me is that it's not that flexible of a gimmick. A traitor for example can be anyone fro biesel intel officer to syndie. Terminator on the other hand is pretty much only terminator with "save/destroy Sarah Connor". WIth slightly more leeway gimmick-wise it's could become a pretty good gamemode
  9. Jukebox is a cool feature and being relatively uncommon to see it retains its freshness for quiet some time. However a playlist of 12(?) records is a little bit underwhelming and it gets repetative pretty fast. It would be great if the jukebox could play custom records (maybe made available via disks sold by the merchant?) Or at least had a somewhat expanded playlist (i would personally like something jazzy, feel free to post your suggestions) all would make for more immersive in-game music experience
  10. Reporting Personnel: Liam Coulson Rank of Reporting Personnel: Detective Game ID: bT0-cHOx Personnel Involved: - Casimir Bash, Warden (Offender) - Jensen Charles, Head of Security Chief (Witness) Time of Incident: approx 2015 Real time: approx 2215 EEST Location of Incident:Warden's office Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [x]Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault [x]Misconduct [x]Other Slander Overview of the Incident: Warden Bash refused to give up evidence pertaining to the ongoing case to the on station investigator (myself), stating i as a detective have no business handling evidence and that he will only hand it to the CSI. He then proceeded to state that he doesn't trust me personally and is afraid for the evidence since i would "make it disappear". Finally he reported me checking my revolver to the head of security as me threatening his life. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: Jensen Charles, Head of Security Chief was notified about this multiple times both via PDA and in person Actions taken: Requests for action and warrant were ignored by the head of security chief Additional Notes: At no point during the shift or otherwise was I involved in events that would allow anyone to question my credibility, neither was the revolver brandished or pointed in the general direction of the warden nor any comments suggesting it's going to be used against the warden were made. Using your secure office to withhold evidence from investigation instead of designated evidence storage and accusing security members of regulation breaches without any evidence whatsoever is an example of gross misconduct unworthy of warden position that could be classified as neglect of dut, sabotage and slander
  11. Yeah, the lack of already existing positions that allow new players to learn specific jobs (like virology, xenoarch, atmos, tcomms, mining, cooking, detective, forensics, etc.) is a bit of a problem. While for most civilian slots you can ask HoP to assign you to a specific job (like cargo assistant, junior chef or something like that) other jobs are not really something you could trust an average assistant with. So as a solution to this i'm all for making a bunch of new alt-titles for departments (chemistry resident, surgery resident, virology resident, psychology resident, nursery resident etc. for people who want to learn something specialised. Medical intern for people who are just starting in medical and need to be taught how a syringe works, investigative assistant for security investigators and so on).
  12. To start of there have already been some similar suggestions here https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=10549&p=94010#p94010 and here https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=8947 To summarise my own opinion on this: yes. It's a very interesting idea that would help out antags, make people interact with each other more and bring forth the underused features like faxes, request consoles and intercomms. Voice recognition idea is very nice however as noted there would have to be a fair number of identifiers to be able to discern between if not every person on the station then at least most of them. Dispather is something i've been thinking about for quiet some time. Coordinating security officers and paramedics is something that would definitely benefit the gameflow and adding responsibilities to get calls from other departments would make it a sufficient important role. We were discussing like not even 10 minutes ago the uninhabited huge dorm area at the tcomms (seems like a suitable location for dispatcher's office) All in all the concept is really interesting and i would love to try it out however all other similar suggestions (links provided in the beginning of the post) all stopped at the point of "let's try it out at least for a couple of rounds and see how it goes" and subsequently died. I would really like for someone to take action on it and actually work in order to make this thing happen
  13. There's a name length cap that cuts the name off of the paperwork. Unless it was changed the labeler lets you override this because the cap for name length is calculated separately for the labeler name and the original name (or something along those lines i'm not really sure how that works exactly) Current design has a public request console in the library. While you can print paperwork from every console it's easier to just walk to it and print whatever you need than run across the enrire station to your department or ask around for someone to print it for you. Attached the screenshot of the current library console placement
  14. Biesel law does not require reading rights even for law enforcement officers, let alone security officers. Moreover the part where you state that violations of Biesel law will be reported and dealt with by biesel authorities seems kind of excessive. And to top it off i really doubt that a loyalty implanted HoS will release a criminal on a basis of a handling officer not reading rights to them. So it's mostly just unnecessary fluff with the current state of affairs. That being said it would be interesting to slightly tweak Biesel laws and NT relationship with Biesel authorities to make such a thing required Oh come on. It's three pretty logical sentences. You don't even have to precisely word them. Just "everything you say can be used against you, you may appeal your sentence to loyalty implanted personnel, actions violating Biesel law will be reported to Bisel authorities"
  15. doesn't seem to different from what it is now. The only obvious problems with this draft i curently see is that the newscaster on the port side should probably be moved somewhere since if you're using it you're effectively blocking the shelves around you (not really but non-mechanically it would be pretty difficult to look over shells with someone standing in the aisle). Same with the fire alarm (#firesafety). Starboard side should probably get more carpets (it feels kinda empty). And i'm not sure if the display monitor on the port side is blocked by the laptop dispenser (if it is it should probably be moved as well). Labeler should probably be put back as it's sometimes used for paperwork and some people use the library to do their paperwork. For the same reason i don't think the general access request console should be removed (because it's the main source of paperwork)
  16. Yep, I'm all for it. The system i had in mind involved using reading papers from the distance mechanic. So basically you examine a guy from a distance and get something like that This is a human male (look closer) He is wearing sunglasses He is wearing a grey jumpsuit He is wearing black shoes He is wearing command ID (look closer) Clicking on the first "look closer" will reveal something like this This is Josh McGreytide //not shown if he's wearing a mask He is middle-aged //depending on the characters age the descriptor would change to very young/young/elderly/etc. He has short black hair //not showed if he's wearing a hat He has green eyes //not showed if he's wearing sunglasses He has a 3 o'clock shade //not showed if he is wearing a mask He skin is light //not showed if he's wearing a suit, mask, hat, shoes and gloves // Every descriptor has a certain chance to not show up depending on the distance between you and the target and the level of lighting on the tile the target is standing on If you click on the second "look closer" you get His id reads Josh McGreytide, Captain //if you're close to the target and the lighting is sufficient //or I can't read his id from here, I need to get closer //if you're too far away or if it's dark That would make stealth infiltration a lot more viable and fun and will also get rid of the photographic memory of the crew, forcing security to work off of vague descriptions when searching for the perp. The problems with this is that it could potentially make it absurdly hard to identify anyone Regardless of how it will be implemented overall +1 for the concept
  17. The problem with this is that it can be eaily checked via manifest if a guy doesn't belong in the department. A similar concept but activatable as an antag option (a guy spawns as an undercover detective with a badge or better yet as an undercover biesel intel officer (BIO suits better imo but on the wave of latest news having undercover dets could also be a thing) with a mission to investigate corruption in the department) I like the idea but the conept needs to be more fleshed out to say anything certain
  18. Regardless of whether you intend or not to help the suspect refusing an officer access to a crime scene or a witnessed criminal is helping the criminal himself so it is technically covered by a&a. That being said i don't know a lot of people who will take kindly to you wanting to arrest a dickish medic for denying you access even if you're actually in the right by the regs. So i wouldn't mind the new regulation covering denying access to an established crime scene. we don't technically know anything about Biesel law and how it operates with such situation but IRL it is called "the right to remain silent". So i think if someone doesn't want to talk to security he can opt to not do so as a nod to this right. Deliberately lying instead of keeping quite on the other hand is throwing off the investigation and is punished by IRL obstruction of justice charge. While it is technically covered by aiding and abetting as well i wouldn't mind this new regulation covering lying to security (not refusing to speak mind you) For tampering with evidence the general consensus have been the application of sabotage. However the wording of it is questionable if we're talking about stupidity, not malicious destruction. However even in that case neglect of duty and aiding and abetting applies (since you're helping the criminal by destroying evidence). I'm not a huge fan of a&a being a catch all exception. Wording of sabotage or NoD could be corrected to fit such infraction somewhat nicer or a new one could take this instance on itself (however in that case punishment for it should be increased) Medical is entitled to take over both when the crewmember is injured but not dead (as is the case with the presented example) and immediately after the crime scene is processed. If medics find out about the dead crewmember and don't notify security you once again can apply neglect of duty with the blessing of HoS and aiding and abetting if it was murder and not an accident
  19. Noone ever said that and reread the article. The reason for not trusting security is all there. An official statement from NT chief released an official statement. Unless you want to say that we shouldn't trust high ranking NT officials i have no idea what you're going for and why so why is the detective not a suspect either? in that case should we disarm the entire ISD to minimize possibility of abuse? Let's remove security as a department entirely while we're at it. Security needs to carry out their duties and they needs specific tools for it. You can't be sure your fellow collegues are trustworthy so you pack a lethal gun to protect yourself as a detective. Security officers in turn pack an entire arsenal of various gear to deal with the detective should the need arise. It's not a hard concept
  20. you were not given your gun by the grace of god to purify security from the taint of corruption. dont metagame antag sec without evidence. Noone ever said that and reread the article. The reason for not trusting security is all there. An official statement from NT chief released an official statement. Unless you want to say that we shouldn't trust high ranking NT officials i have no idea what you're going for and why
  21. nothing in that article says the officers were murdering detectives.............. its corporate espionage........ its metagaming to assume you need a gun you might have to use on the officer you are alone with. even if you take that article to its logical end you will just have to worry about them snappin' a pic of your id so they can empty your bank account. lmao Security was infiltrated both in the ranks o fregular officers and loyalty implanted heads of security. Detectives are the first person who would catch up to this. Affiliations with the syndicate are speculated. Last i checked syndicate was not a charity organisation helping crippled children. So it took me 4 sentences to justify being worried about officers being a possible threat to you especially if you're a detective. Does it count as taking an article to a logical end?
  22. Lol that's metagaming Why would you even need to think about protecting yourself from an officer?!?!?!?!!? what MENTAL GYMNASTICS is this!?! Imagine if all of Sec had a "protection against fellow officers" mentality Sec would be all in mechs or full riot gear you dont think about protecting yourself from an officer because you are both on the same side, and worrying about it is meta for sec antags. I can't tell if you're meming or actually being serious. Metagaming is using the knowledge player posesses and the character doesn't. The quote on quote MENTAL GYMNASTICS is what i assume to be expecting something extremely improbable So just in case you're being serious here's what's going on https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=2981&start=120. Last report. Reread and then talk to me about metagaming and MENTAL GYMNASTICS
  23. The argument is not as much about rubbers being more powerfull or less powerfull than lethals. It's about rubber gun being completely useless against a certain pretty sizeable part of the crew. If Aurora had only humans and tajara we could give the detective a simple taser and i would e completely fine with it. But taking lethals away is basically ignoring a more than plausible encounter with synthetics which can not be ICly justified. That's not what detectives do. Haven't you been playing detective recently? From my experience with detectives, very few are actually do work. There's a great number that treat the role like Officer but without the need to deal with low-level crimes, uniform, or S.O.P concerning the handling of wanted persons. I think taking that gun from them is a good idea, and giving them a .45 with rubber- or nothing- is a step in the right direction. There are few detectives that are good at their job. However i don't see how taking away an essential tool of theirs and their inherent aesthetics will solve this problem.
  24. The concept fixes the current issues most people have with LIs. However when it comes to LIs that are kept in RnD i would suggest nerfing them. Like putting their effect on a timer or making them instate a single command in the mind of the implanted person or make it really obvious the person is "zombified" upon examining. Something like that. And obviously make them illegal (like the truth serum). Turning a person's views 180 degrees off of an implant is a bit of a drastic think imo
