Do hydrogen engines exist in Aurora universe?
Saudus replied to DronzTheWolf's topic in Lore Questions
One of the generators use Mhydrogen I believe. I assume that is metallic hydrogen, which isn't the same I know but still. -
[Accepted]Elliot's Skrell Application
Saudus replied to Elliot's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I don't really remember any of your characters well enough to comment on you as a player, so I will just give feedback/ask stuff based on the app itself. Does she share her parent's view on synthetics? Does she view different synthetics in different ways, such as IPCs vs lawed station bounds/AIs? Does she have any siblings? Is she affected by the genophage? Has being sterile/not sterile had some impact on her? Did she try her hand at science and/or warfare? Did she try and find herself unsuitable or felt not good enough and never tried? The qualifications in management she got, were they from education/work/both? I understand that you want to let her develop naturally, but I think these are good ones to have covered before stepping on station. Also, would love to see the "Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:" section have a bit more if you can. -
I think it sounds like a nice feature to have. No idea how hard it is to implement and if it is "worth it" in the end.

I really like it, I never play antag anymore because I can't get it to fit with my main chars and this would solve my issue. The way I see it it can either be done by having additional things to toggle and fill in char setup, or they don't spawn regularly but in some place where they can customize their char similar to mercs etc before getting to the station somehow. No idea which is easier or better.
-
I haven't actually played with your chars so I'll just comment based on the app itself. First, it's nice when the headers are in bold, much easier to read and think that is the way the format is supposed to be. Second, the character doesn't seem to fulfill the requirements on the job's wiki page being 5 years too young and not having a bachelors in Management. Third, I'm sorry but I really dislike the last part in the biography about the will. It sounds more like the intro to a superhero than something for a whitelist.

Please not round start lethals. The lockout feature makes it much better but I'm not sure why RD/CMO/CE/HoP should be able to override that (even temporarily). Automatically unlocking at code red, sure. HoS, Warden and Captain manually overriding, sure.

First of, that sounds hilarious and I would have loved to have seen that. Secondly, yes fixing it sounds good.

Going to have to -1 as well. There are already tons of ways to communicate that Lancelynxx listed. The PDA and ringers are especially effective. I also think it's a weird precedent to set with part of a department having access to another department comms. EMT/Paramedic role woule have a great line af argumentation for access to mining/sec comms for example with similar logic.

+1, because a backpack is much less silly than pulling a locker everywhere

Add Insulated/Electrical Gloves to the Xenowear Loadout.
Saudus replied to furrycactus's topic in Archive
Both the mapping and loadout options sound good and reasonable. +1 -
Why would we know which parts go with which? It's new equipment not used by our department. And an upgraded prolathe takes just a few seconds per object, regular one maybe 15, so unless you are printing an armory's worth it is fairly fast. Chef's food takes "for fucking ever" compared to vendors but that is a small price to pay for the added gameplay of it.

New Station Directive: 'Regarding Freedom of the Press '

What Jackboot said sounds really nice. Can always roll it back if it gets obnoxious for some reason. -
[Dismissed] Antag whitelist for special antags
Saudus replied to BurgerBB's topic in Rejected Policy
First, antag counters sound cool. Can definitely imagine issues with it (such as "antag didn't involve me, downvote", metagrudging and such) but there will always be such and think/hope it wouldn't be more than the positives. It's a positive system where people give you positive votes so you get it back, has a negative system been discussed where enough ppl voting down means you don't get it back? I understand and agree that a manual one seems woefully inefficient, especially if of any real complexity. But really the robust playtime counter seems just as good and effective, maybe even more so, as a lax whitelist to the point where it basically is an automated whitelist? It might be incorrect terminology but I sort of consider such a system a whitelist. -
I sincerely don't understand how science are being garbage on this. Not saying I don't believe people are saying that to you or that they think so, but how they can be so. I damn near only play science and never see these kinds of issues. People ask for something, if it isn't something that should be restricted or we don't have the material, we print and give it. 9/10 times it is either nanopaste, integrated circuit printer/it's upgrade, power cells or component upgrades for laptops. None of which are restricted or require fancy materials. Very rarely do we ask for requisition forms or deny it. These KA items are not the kinds that at least I feel are restricted. The main issue I have had is me and them not knowing which ones to print. Miner asks for upgrades, I ask which ones, they say they don't entirely know and ask which ones we have, I tell them the various types of components we have available and what material is missing for others, they say what they want, I print and give, something doesn't quite work or they have better or something. Very similar to how it often goes when upgrading laptops, and it'll get better as they and we learn the system more.

[Dismissed] Antag whitelist for special antags
Saudus replied to BurgerBB's topic in Rejected Policy
I see this almost as much as a way to protect new players from our community as anything else. Antags like ninja, wizard and malf are a bit complicated and are central to a round they are in. Mercs being total idiots in terms of team play feels a bit off brand for them but they at least have backup and usually one or two experienced players to help guide them. It isn't very fun to watch new players play complicated and important antags, fail, and then get salty garbage thrown on them in OOC. When at least I started playing SS13 I checked ALL the antag boxes I could and would not have had a fun experience failing hard and then having people be very salty and trash me. Also, if you've gotten whitelisted for command or a species then as far as I think you've already shown enough RP skill (even if it is a very different kind). I get that we don't want more whitelists and the extra work really, and this ought to save hell of a lot of time. Is it mechanically possible for say Wizard+Ninja+Malf being locked but unlockable via either a special antag whitelist AND/OR a species/command whitelist? The antag whitelist really doesn't have to be very complicated either. I consider the actual time played counter to be just as good as the low complexity whitelist as we'd use for this otherwise. -
Can really get behind the idea. Making it some very special type of kois would be cool too. I think there are some things that should be discussed to see what people think is best. Fast or slow zombies? This would determine a lot how they fight and how to fight them, also crucial to decide how much health/resistance/vulnerability they have. Level of infectability Is a bite 100% infection chance? Is it reduced or eliminated by armor? Is the bite just one of their attacks and others, say scratch, has a much lower or no infection chance? Does the zombie blood/guts have a chance to infect people? If it can is it determined when instantly applied to you or is it based on how long it remains on you? Existing knowledge of the pathogen Is it entirely unknown? Is it fairly common knowledge among xenobiologists/xenobotanists? Does command have a "open in case of black kois zombie pathogen" folder which contains info on the pathogen but is secret except to the Captain and possibly IAA/some command members/all command members? Do the ERT know about the pathogen? How it starts Is it a random event similar to random new vampires or is it a regular round antag? If it is regular, how long before they turn into zombies? Do they know ICly they are about to turn into a zombie? Will they be a regular infected when turned or like a "pure-strain" zombie which is a bit stronger? Zombie progression? Do zombies progress in some way as they eat people? Do they regenerate health passively, when they eat or not at all? Do they gather points in some way that gives access to minor mutations? What would such mutations be? Would it be like a ling purchasing powers freely from all available ones or more like buying into a "path"? Would it change their looks in some way? My answers to the questions would be like this.

[Dismissed] Antag whitelist for special antags
Saudus replied to BurgerBB's topic in Rejected Policy
The mechanics point is very true. I am terrified of trying ninja/wiz because of their mechanics and me wrecking a round. A good way to actually improve this is to encourage people to host themselves a server and test the different antags, a small "how-to-host local server" could do some good for this. -
[Dismissed] Antag whitelist for special antags
Saudus replied to BurgerBB's topic in Rejected Policy
I agree with the idea of an antag whitelist for many of the reasons burger lists. I have 2 worries however. 1, which antags to require whitelist. I think malf/wiz/ninja are definite inclusions for the whitelist and Changeling/traitor/vampire shouls definitely not be included. Cult/merc/rev/raider are very debatable. A bad cultist can out the entire thing and screw it up. Burger already listed issues with merc/raider. A bad rev can derail the gimmicks. I would say merc and cult ought to be whitelisted too. I always assume some sort or discipline from those roles from a realism point, but expect many might disagree on cult. Raiders being a bit more silly and loose than mercs seem like the entire point of it to me basically. 2, gamemode probabilities. The gamemode probabilities would be heavily related to if this is good or not. In summary reguar traitor and traitor mixed modes ought to be made more probable to give people training. I also think autotraitor is much harder as it disrupts your RP flow and progress. Even if these things were left ignored I would still +1 this. I think it worthwhile to at least test. -
Daaaaaamn, this looks great! All of them! Massive +1 Minor thing, the Skrell and Vaurca have green lights at the back of their heads where the others don't. The Vaurca one might be hard to quickly tell if they are looking up or down, not sure. This isn't an issue in any way really, just my sense of symmetry being disturbed and it might look better/more consistent if they all don't have green lights on the backs of their head.

I used to play IAA and really only used bridge access for the security records and announcements. If those functions are added to their office and access to the bridge removed I consider that a fair trade balance-wise and can understand the flavor reasons.

A week really seems quite fast, please consider doing moving the upgrades back in waves (corresponding to their item tier or sth) or taking a bit longer than that.

[Withdrawn] Burger's Developer Application
Saudus replied to BurgerBB's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Well the two statements you are comparing isn't the same I think? Because: Is not the same as I get what Burger seems to mean on that that a general +1 is better than a general -1 because it doesn't leave what is a problem unspecified. That said, people very rarely give a general -1, they usually say what they are -1 on. And when they go just -1, I assume it usually means the entire concept/idea. -
[Withdrawn] Burger's Developer Application
Saudus replied to BurgerBB's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I initially gave a +1 to this thread when it came out, but I've decided to remove it after having followed a few suggestion/feedback threads. I'm not switching it to a -1, I'm just neutral now. He seems to do good work and arguably quite fast, which is nice, but I don't think fast is always needed. Like some others I'm worried by his behavior. I don't hold the mercenary attitude of a contributor he has against him, it is a perfectly reasonable attitude, but he follows it up with a short fuse and/or hostility. Would you becoming a developer change your attitude or behavior in some way? Your answer to Synnono's question doesn't make much sense to me since as a contributor you have all the say in your projects and you don't seem to enjoy at least the discussions here on the forums?
