A strong +1 for this app. Readthisnameplz (RTNP) is very levelheaded IC and OOC. RTNP was the first friend I made here at Aurora and one of RTNP's chars has an IC relationship with one of mine. RTNP's roleplay is top-notch. IC decisions make sense and dovetail with the characters' backstories... which are also top-notch (RTNP's regular chars at least, if not all). RTNP seeks out other characters to RP with and add value to a round, either normally or as an antag. Mechanically, RTNP is a robust antag and not just simply for combat robustness. RTNP's often is a coalition-building antag, teaming up antags, even across types, I've seen, to create memorable conflict that keeps removing players from a round to a minimum until the conflict ripens. A frequent Warden before being command whitelisted, RTNP has a solid handle on security procedure and codes, something I would consider a must-have for a potential new staff member. As a frequent Captain since being whitelisted, RTNP has demonstrated mature leadership qualities. RTNP would make an excellent ambassador for Aurora and what it and HRP represents, and would work hard to make interactions with players a positive experience for all involved whenever possible. I believe staff will not be disappointed should they choose to give RTNP a trial.

This is my opinion on the matter. I've seen some players who make an effort to try not to intentionally create a problem, I'm a neutral party as I find myself in a state of contradictory conflict. Sometimes, I tell myself that moderation should be a little strict while I tell myself that moderation team should be a little flexible. I know not where I stand. I can see a strong aggressive coming from you over a small deal, @alexpkeaton. Are you having a bad day, biased against @Prospekt's opinion, or something to cause a spark? Perhaps you are not a frequent reader of the unban requests. This guy is a troll. Perhaps I shouldn't have fed the troll.

You've appeared to do everything possible to cause as much grief to Aurora admins as possible. After being banned from Discord you PM'd an admin and shittalked. You posted unban appeals that demonstrated that you have zero respect for the rules of this server (or the appeals process, for that matter). Nothing happens in a vacuum. You haven't taken responsibility for being a dick. The first step to being taken seriously is to act maturely. You failed in that. You got banned from discord and the server. This server will not stoop to your level of maturity. This is a HRP server. There are standards and rules. Break them and you get a conversation with an admin. Demonstrate a disrespect for our rules and you get banned. Got too salty in a round? Appeal the ban and demonstrate that you understand what you did wrong and will try harder. That's simply how this server works. You cannot simply get banned and reply "Y SO SERIOUS??" Just find another server. Work on understanding that servers are communities and we're all just trying to have fun. If someone comes in the door and causes problems with everyone else's fun, they are going to be kicked out of the server. When the time comes that you realize that, write a new appeal and demonstrate that you won't cause problems if you are let back in.

You've got some contradictions going on here... So which is it? I don't think you understand the definition of "being genuine." Look. You have posted multiple ban appeals (at least three unban requests and a staff complaint since Nov. 1st) with active hostility toward the admins and the rules set here. I'm going to be genuine here and say what this looks like to me: this looks like a guy who got locked out of the dance and is retaliating by trying to set fire to the ballroom. If you don't think I am being fair to you, perhaps you should have thought of that before posting such unban requests as this one, affectionately called unban me from discord fuckers:https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=9441 Your credibility is in the toilet. Just find another server. -1

Please add "autohiss" + custom say verbs to Dionaea
alexpkeaton replied to BurgerBB's topic in Completed Projects
... once you're in that mindset, it doesn't slow you down at all. It's as natural as typing normal English. Autohiss can be pretty bad. ... It's just my opinion, but I think the more control you have over your own character, the better. First, and I do not mean to say this rudely, but typing more characters takes more time than typing less characters. SCIENCE. Second, I guess it comes down to what you want to get out of the experience of playing an alien character. Do you want the total immersion? If so, I suppose you could turn off auto-hiss. But auto-hiss provides a basic standard across the species. Also, IMHO I just don't think that people are playing Unathi to spam the "s" key. They want to get something else out of the experience and keeping accents in line using a keyboard or auto-hiss is simply a condition to that. Plus, auto-hiss gives you a little breathing room in tense moments. If someone is in a "click-or-be-clicked situation," standards will slip. Auto-hiss is there for you in these moments But let's also remember that accents are simply what we hear and are not what someone thinks. For example, an Australian doesn't think the following words: They are thinking: It is simply how the vocal cords are translating that into sound. So I do not even think it is immersion-breaking to use auto-hiss. If anything, it reinforces the immersion to use auto-hiss because you are only mildly conscious of how your vocal cords are expressing the words. You think something and it comes out differently than how others might say it. Auto-accents for lisps is another example of the same situation. (Apologies to my Australian friends for my example. That's what came up in my seach for phonetic accents.) +1 To add dionae auto-hiss. -
Lock them to the RD/Captain only. Not sure about Aurora, but on Paradise station, virus crates are locked to the CMO/Captain. This presents a similar if not higher level of risk, hence you should lock it to the RD/Cap so you don't have xenobiologists endangering all of science or the station due to stupidity/nefarious motives. Also, the RD/Cap should know what violent creatures are being let loose anywhere aboard, even if in a "controlled" environment.

Boom indeed. You would also want to include the "sleep" verb in addition to "rest". +1 to removing those verbs while in a grab.
-
iirc. red grabbing someone keeps them up regardless. Nope, they still go down, even when redgrabbed. This suggestion might just spawn a competing suggestion: make a way to keep grabbed people standing up for hostage reasons.

Your facial expressions are really good, do you draw comics regularly in MSPaint/otherwise? Do you have any posted elsewhere? Great stuff!

This is a well thought-out suggestion and I really like the idea of an allergy system. I am going to second the idea of including the anaphylactic shock despite the balance issue it could present. We do need medical staff more actively consulting medical records prior to treatment, and knowing that any patient could be a ticking time bomb in that regard might just do the trick. +1, I really hope there is a coder friendly to this cause. We may want to time lock this disability system for new players though because of the potential to get carried away with it in grief. On Paradise Station we called them "seizure assistants." They would select all the disabilities and would spawn in a wheelchair with no arms or legs and have a seizure every couple of minutes. Hence the name "seizure assistants."

[Resolved] Player Complaint - Ward Sagan
alexpkeaton replied to a topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Apologies. I guess that got deleted. Since you shifted to the cloning business I thought you meant me. -
[Resolved] Player Complaint - Ward Sagan
alexpkeaton replied to a topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Excuse me, but you are out of line and quite frankly, your attitude sucks. I am involved in relation to having RPed the character's depression. You are the bringer of the complaint, not the responding admin. Act like it. -
Character Feedback - Jack Tanner, MD
alexpkeaton replied to alexpkeaton's topic in Character Stories
I feared as much about Ellie, who by the way I really like as a character! Sometimes I'm fumbling around trying to find words or figure out what will advance the RP more or thinking up some gimmick that will be something out of the norm but when it's done I just end up thinking "why the hell did you just do that, Jack?" I felt so bad that I was keeping you out there with Yuri while I crept along at a snail's pace so came up with a harebrained idea to involve you. Didn't work out for me in terms of clinically, but I do think it ended up as an opportunity for you and Yuri to RP. The wizard girl was sort of a mixed bag. I really wanted to figure out how to advance the plot because the player literally said in LOOC that I was the worst paych for the job, so I was trying to figure out how to move things along, so I was being more suspicious than I would normally be and pressed further than I might otherwise. Probably would have been better had everyone just kept it IC to begin with. Maybe Ellie would want to have it out with Tanner about her concerns. I have greatly enjoyed our interactions so far. Thanks for the feedback! -
[Resolved] Player Complaint - Ward Sagan
alexpkeaton replied to a topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I would like to offer an option for the character to return as playable via a supervised inpatient round. The idea is that Ward would be cloned but be confined for observation and treatment to the medical sub-level. I would offer to provide this treatment with my psych character Jack Tanner. I had previously had an extended session with Ward and discussed his depression at length, so it is a natural fit. Also I would hate to lose Ward's character in medbay due to this unfortunate situation. EDIT: I did see the unedited post by @Sharp but still offer an extended counseling/inpatient session if desired. -
Hello everyone, I recently started a new primary character as Jack Tanner, an MD Psychiatrist. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you have about Dr. Tanner. Also, if you would like to schedule an IC appointment with Dr. Tanner, feel free to leave you character name and I will look out for them on the manifest and PDA them with an opportunity to do a "annual assessment." Typical meetings take 15-30 minutes gametime, depending on the topic. I can also provide you upon request with medical record notes to append to your character via the setup screen. However, my primary interest here is your feedback. I play another Jack on station and Tanner is an older, wiser and more compassionate Jack. I hope you've enjoyed your interactions with him as much as I have loved playing the character. It's such a bummer when the psych slot is taken as I literally don't play Tanner as anything else. Thanks in advance!

Character Feedback: Ka'Viax'Kee Zo'ra and Others
alexpkeaton replied to MFalco's topic in Character Stories
1/2 of the KiiKee cooks? I really enjoy them when they play. I've had very little interaction with them besides a few brief conversations, but I think they are a brilliant idea and well-executed. -
This is dangerous. AOOC is not meant for this sort of ICish coordination. Indeed, coordinating in AOOC as you describe would seem to be very much IC in (A)OOC. The merc+traitor roundtype would make this sort of coordination very difficult to avoid. Someone posts in AOOC about being a merc or traitor, someone else realizes the roundtype, and then we're off to the races. A "gimmick" for traitor+merc could very quickly become rule-breaking coordination in AOOC. And while antagonists are expected to check themselves before posting in AOOC, this would make it very difficult to avoid.

[Denied] Tbear13's Head of Staff Application
alexpkeaton replied to tbear13's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Please don't call me a liar. Perhaps with things happening you didn't realize how long I was waiting. And, perhaps I am unfairly adding the time for the confusion in sec after I fed on you. I recall it being a very long time, longer than my time in a cell. I would not lie, especially in a Head of Staff application. One of us is mistaken, but there's no lying going on here. What concerned me is that I tried to communicate to you an absurd number of times that I needed my gear (no fewer than seven is a pretty safe estimate) both locally, in common comms, in bold text, and finally via ahelp... and you didn't listen. I was standing next to the cell you had originally placed me in where I had items strewn clearly on the ground inside. I had pointed out when I was being moved to a new cell that my items were inside and you promised that I would get them back. I think you were on autopilot, which I get can happen in security (though, again, that prisoner causing problems didn't happen until the last 20% or so of our interaction. I don't know how your headset was otherwise blowing up though, but you were nearby that entire initial time). But a Head of Staff needs to be able to communicate, especially when security is involved (I have been playing here for just over a month but played command for two years on Paradise Station prior to coming here). And from that interaction, I do note that your communication fell short. That's all. -
[+1 dismissal]The Surgery Cult Factory, starring other antags
alexpkeaton replied to ajstorey456's topic in Archive
An AI just needs to glance at cameras long enough and your game is over. A surgeon can easily subdue the unsuspecting, but for the most part they are forced to attempt their nefarious plans under lights and cameras. I think that's a decent enough tradeoff. -
[Denied] Tbear13's Head of Staff Application
alexpkeaton replied to tbear13's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Trevor stripped me of my headset as a prisoner being booked for assault (6 minute sentence), despite my comment that I did not believe that to be correct procedure. He was also painfully slow in returning my gear to me after release (did not put it all in the cell locker like he should have). I was overplaying my frustration with sec as I was an antag vamp who framed an antag sec changeling after I was caught dragging the ling CSI into maintenance to feed, still, there was no excuse for the breach of protocol. CSI was subsequently caught feeding and I was released. It took the warden (Trevor) more than 10 minutes to return my bag and items, despite no fewer than seven requests for my items. Had to ahelp twice. Once for the headset and again for my items. -1 needs more experience and needs to review procedures more. -
[mention]Arrow768[/mention], more things to add to cargo: Soda dispenser Liquor dispenser Chemical dispenser Soda dispenser refills Liquor dispenser refills (Chem dispenser refills??) Industrial Mining drill, or is that now being ordered exclusively through the mining equipment vendor? Emergency floodlight (not sure if that used to be available or not via cargo) Has the women's dress and men's formalwear been added yet? Magboots (again, not sure if this was in old cargo but it would be a useful addition)

Pretty sure monkey cubes are under hydroponics.

Add Null Rod Box and/or Bible to Loadout Selection
alexpkeaton replied to Fortport's topic in Archive
Bibles can be printed at the library. (Someone check me that they work for healing) The null rod should be able to released at the cryo control console if a chap cryos with it (may require a head of staff ID, again someone check me on this). -
There is a label maker in the cargo bay near the exit door where the stamps are. That said, this is a simple suggestion that won't affect balance. +1 as is, or to putting the label maker more centrally on the table in cargo where the autolathe materials spawn. To be quite honest, I never knew label-making and mining had anything in common until now.

Ha! Actually a botanist stopped by once asking where the ambrosia vulgaris was now. I assumed that it was in a past crate. I guess not. You can see how many times I smoke weed play botanist. What if other mats than glass and steel were available, but absurdly expensive? Metal and glass too should be set at a premium price to prevent them from being bought in lieu of waited on.
