    Resignation.

I'd like to thank you for the time and effort you've put into this community, Lessick. You've helped manage issues, calculate responses and develop ideas. Hopefully you won't be a stranger to the community and staff. With the formal bit out of the way: Thank you, hope you have a good run and hope to see you about :< Also, I kept this one name in my justincakes.txt (yes, I have this file on my desktop), for, well, just in case: Kikahkahchitaka. Just a random thing, if you remember who that was.
  2. As of right now, the review process will be conducted by myself. I will let a few other members of staff in on it, and bounce ideas off of their heads during it. Once the core group is established (what I'm doing now), and the SOPs and so on in set in place, we will have an actual review process (board review included).
  3. Unable to fetch the ban date without chugging through massive amounts of logs. I'm for giving another chance.
  4. Then keep the gun stowed. On your vest. Not in your hand. You used considerable force when arresting an employee of your corporation. What irks me is the fact that you did not give them an opportunity to arrest them without force; you did not even tell them that they were under arrest, instead you very simply batoned them (and yes, I read the logs), cuffed them, and dragged them off without saying a single word. I'll go over the logs again, but these were my observations at the time.
  5. The fact that a weapon in your possession was accidentally discharged and caused a highly damaging injury very clearly indicates that you created a dangerous situation. Weapons are to be handled in a manner where they never needless endanger people. You created such a situation. You were in code Blue. Also, please explain to me how arresting the botanist that had already, by accident released bees would resolve this situation? Your actions were inconsiderate, or based on a deeply flawed assessment of a situation where you believed that arresting the botanist would lead to curbing the situation, as I see no other reason for you to escalate power that quickly. This indicates a very clear lack of judgement. This should not be a trait for a security player.
  6. The written ban reason is this: I advise you read the player complaint for the full reasoning, though.
  7. Please go and familiarize yourself with the player complaint that was the cause of this ban: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=575 You will notice that I listed off multiple infringements of whatever guidelines, as shaky as they may be, a security officer should adhere to. None of these were addressed in this unban request.
  8. But. The issue is, from my observation I was not able to perceive this motion. You occupied the AI upload, then the RnD department. Your borgs were with you, instead of trying to deal with the situation. Heck, you even cloned the HoS, surely him being dead is vital for attaining control over the station? Sure, you had the intent. But did you actually showcase and execute that intent?
  9. I observed, I want to say, a good 50-75% of the round actively. And helped handle adminning it. From my perspective, there are two issues that are worth looking at. Note that I have not yet had the time to read any of the responses, nor the official complaint, so below are just my notes and comments regarding the round and the actions of the people involved. The first is the actions of the borgs and AI. Their actions resulted in a good amount of dead players, however, I would say that just about most of those kills were justified. Yes, there was an incident where Inverted went out against someone he really shouldn't have (they were posing no threat, and just happened to be close to RnD, not in it, at the wrong time). However, this was resolved and was most likely caused by excitement or related mechanics. Now, why do I suggest that most of these kills were justified? Because people were not evacuating areas of obvious combat, or were seeking to be a hero. The AI core should have been clear of anyone but an armed and organized response team after the lasers started flying, it was not. Instead, everyone stuck around and tried to do shit, and then got lasered to death or severely wounded. The second instance of this was people breaking into science and trying to attack the borgs. Personally, I have nothing against the deaths of the characters whose actions I described above. The borgs gave enough blatant warning (honestly, you get shot in the head with a laser, and you think it's a good idea to stick around...?) to anyone looking to enter those two areas. And people still did, people still chose to pick up a fight, and people died in the process. Now, here's the other end of the story: the actual story. Why were these things being committed? That is the one thing I saw lacking: direction. And if you have the AI + two sec borgs subverted, lacking direction is a pretty major flaw, and the responsibility for providing direction, in this instance, falls unto Swat.
  10. A beret hardly counts as a hat.
  11. As one of the highest executive powers at the disposal of Central Command, its Duty Officers are loyalty implanted men and women who take care of any incidents pertaining to the stations under their respective care. Under their purview fall the following duties: Communication between NMSS Odin [Central Command for Tau Ceti] and the NSS Aurora Review of incident reports from the NSS Aurora Review of personnel and their conduct aboard the NSS Aurora Response to pressing matters, with intent to alleviate a developing situation [Response Team members deployed as required] Enforcement of Standard Operating Procedure Now that we have the fluffy bit out of the way, let's see as to what I actually wish to happen. Basically, with the opening of the Incident Report forums, it has become clear that the amount of IC correction and mentoring that needs to be done with the intent of building up a competent command team has exceeded the realistic capabilities of the small Moderation & Administration team that we have. As such, I have the idea of drafting willing individuals to take over the process. Basically, we would create a small, player driven team that handles the IC complaints area, has the ability to respond to IC situations (faxes, chiefly) and is generally responsible for providing feedback to heads of staff, and correcting/raising them as need be. The upsides: Less strain on staff to handle these situations, as opposed to full on Mod/Admin issues (player related, as opposed to character related) Actual, potential, development of players and characters More involvement from CC in general gameplay The main fear I have is creating and promoting a group of "elitists," basically a group of people who see themselves higher than the rest, and lack the humility required for the posting. At that point, they fail to mentor, they fail to teach, and they fail to adhere to the SOP they are meant to be enforcing. Hopefully this will not become a reality; if it does, the I suppose we'll reassess and reengage. Until then, though. This would be in an open application format, with the process including a board review and some instructional lessons on what will be expected, and how to conduct yourself as. The idea is to teach and select, so that they may, in return, teach and advise. Hopefully this limits potential pitfalls. Beyond seeking community approval, the next steps would be to gather the initial group, and to develop tools required to fulfill the tasks and responsibilities listen above. After that, we'll see.
  12. The odd thing is that I've never seen you play a subordinate role. You took a dive into a head position, were met by critique and scrutiny, and instead of simply taking one step back and reassessing, you up and exited. Here's a story, I've done exactly the same mistake in the past. Been chewed out to fuck because of it. But I took a step back, watched, looked and talked, and then slowly reengaged. Unfortunately I did this too late, and still elected to hang up my hat. Just, instead of trying to soldier on through, take a step back, play a subordinate role for a change. Don't try to take command unless necessary, and just look and listen. After that, try to slowly ease yourself back in.
  13. Duck needs to eventually see this. But. Okay, I understand that we're a HeavyRP server, but this is just comical relief, and amazing at that.
  14. Reviewed and a PM shot your way for further discussion.
  15. Black card: "The Admins were too busy with ____ to respond to ____." "There was a raging discussion on MSay about ____." "_____ forced admins to call Code Delta." "OOC got muted because of people discussing _____."
  16. Okay, since I've been shortworded, here's my main issue with this: I lack faith in certain members, individuals, of our community to execute RP properly as this role. It will be used as an excuse to self-antag, or to introduce the "3edgy5u" type of roleplay that is generally listed under the BadRP rule and has no place here. Speaking of having no place here, I will bet you that 75% of the characters created for this role will have no place on the Aurora: they would have to be model prisoners, or have some other, very good, reason to be sent here. The serial killers, former nuke-ops, whoever, would not be sent here, barring a very damnably good reason. Yes. We can job ban. No, I refuse to bring that excuse up, as this would be too much work for staff to go through. Think old-old Aurora, without a Head whitelist. That level of work (Far Cry, you ought to remember). Now. Where do I see this fitting in? Very carefully, which is how I am treading here, as a whitelisted/applied for role for a specific character. Basically, staff review process. And even then, I would wish to keep these numbers to a minimum. And with strict guidelines in place (you cannot join without n-number of Sec active, you will be implanted for tracking and loyalty, etcetera). Why the latter? Because NT are not, contrary to popular belief, idiots. And even this idea, I'm simply toying with. I will keep reading opinions as they creep up, however.
  17. Kind of sort of. LImplanted and tracking implanted, under personal advisery of an assigned officer.
  18. This is not the purpose for Aurora. Adding things is fine and all, but a loss of focus can be damning. This would tip the scales in that direction.
  19. The admin shuttle can be modified to have an option of ferring dudes there, so madmin teleport won't have to be used.
  20. As FFrances noted, this is indeed a fault with the current rules, LetzShake. And it will be ammended.
  21. It hasn't been like that all the time, though. At around spring, early summer I underwent a relatively hard crash, and felt a disconnect between myself and the community (also made the decision to abandon my 3 year commitment to an, arguably, tighter knit group on ArmA for this around that time). I could not figure out the people we had onboard anymore, despite some of them having been there from the start. It was unpleasant, and demoralizing to a degree. And to add, I had run out of things to do IC, so I stopped playing, basically. But I managed to adjust myself; from what I remember, I started playing Talon in engineering, from where evolved a nice, small story thread, and things moved on from there. The unfortunate fact is that everyone is an individual, and thus the means on fixing things like this are tailored individually (what worked for me might not work for you, what didn't work for me might work for you -- that kinda thing). As odd as it seems, making friends from within the community as a member of staff can be intimidating (or at least is, for me). On a personal note, I was lucky, and had a small group I became a part of during my days on Apollo. And they migrated over to Aurora, and are now mostly active on TS. Speaking of, as much as you may dislike the idea of using TS, it is a good way to just talk with people (as much as OOC serves for communication, I find that the amount of noise present there is not conducive to actual, meaningful communication). Despite the occasional sinning that takes place there. Ultimately, it is impossible to be familiar or even connected with the entire community, beyond the simple premise of, "We all play this game, on this one server." In my mind. Perhaps I'm wrong, dunno.
  22. My views: Okay, fine, the review process failed and you got in as someone you really shouldn't be in as (no, someone like that, in my opinion, should never service a command position, both ICly and OOCly). But once things start piling up, reviews like this, NT would take action. Now, they wouldn't exactly, perhaps, care about the nature of the charge, but they would care about maintaining an effective command staff. This means, one that doesn't need to constantly keep unfucking or firing one of its members. And speaking OOCly, dealing with this can be annoying. It can be hell-a annoying when you sign up as a member of command staff, see the name on the manifest, and just go, "Right... Him again." It's a situation you would want to avoid, or at least have some avenue of action against (we are SUPPOSE to have IC complaint boards, but the dudes in charge of that have yet to produce results, so fine).
  23. Internals: -i5-3570 CPU 4 cores 3.40 to 3.80GHz -GeForce GTX 770 -8GB of RAM -120GB SSD -1TB HDD -Assorted cooling fans and mobo Externals: -Logitech MX580 mouse (amazing) -Some random Logitech keyboard that's 6-8 years old (I don't ever want to swap: simple, effective, typed-in, and just works) -Corsair Vengeance 2100 headset (wireless) -2x LG 22EN43 (22'', full-HD) Only games I really play: -SS13 -EVE Conclusion: Skull has an overpowered computer for running a BYOND game.
  24. Eh, my perspective on playing the game has certainly changed, but I do enjoy it still. But all of this gets tiring. I no longer partake in events, nuke rounds, heist rounds -- basically any round with a higher stress factor. I actually, actively look for ways to avoid conflict, something that is counted as a requirement for storytelling to exist. And should I end up in a high stress situation, I havr a habit of using knowledge to gain myself a comfortable position, if not an advantage in a situation. Is this against the rules? Not exactly. Is this a display of horrid form? Yes, definitely yes. Another oddity can be described with the phrase of, "Embrace the suck." It gets morphed into a pseudo-metagame for me, one with no victory condition. It's kind of fun to be presented with a conflict I know I'm going to have to solve, a verbal engagement I know I'm going to have to conduct, and trying to figure out how it'll go. It's tiring, but, I don't mind. I knew this would happen, and I have reasons to continue. I just hope that people like Rusty, JD, Nursie and whoever else don't mind. Also, a random bit of advice, if it proves necessary. I never found myself having success with characters that had predefined ideas behind them. Just throwing a name attached to a job, title and a few mannerisms into the chaos of the station has been a relatively good way for me to get reengaged. The character develops on their own, on-station.
  25. As much as I enjoy jokes, please not here. So, TO OFF-TOPIC WE GO!
