The Hunt for Former Glory Commander Zhang Jie was tired and frustrated. “XO, you have the conn,” he commanded, stepping away from the helm of the bridge ever so slightly. His knees were starting to give, the result of both his growing age and lowering morale. The route to the Captain’s quarters was a short and direct one, a simple climb down the ladder would take him there. It might as well have been light years. After announcing his XO, a middle-aged Lieutenant by the name of Harrison, had control of the Bridge, Zhang made his way to his quarters, cursing the architects who designed the damned destroyer. Only in the safety of his quarters did he let his shoulders sag as he stripped off his jacket, reaching for the pack of cigarettes laid on his end table. The SAMV Show Me the Money (SAV-310) was an aged ship, there was no doubt, but it was his baby. Ten years in command, thousands of hours logged on the conn, the forty-year old Commander knew the ship inside and out. But the years had started to take its toll on the destroyer, and her Captain as well. Not that his current assignment provided any relief. It was a wild goose chase, plain and simple. He knew that from the moment a burst transmission from SAEXPFLT (Sol Alliance Expenditionary Fleet) HQ had arrived, that the upper echelon of headquarters had finally found an assignment for him aside from protecting the usual civilian freighters leaving New Gibson to the outer colonies, the frontier of Alliance space. If he had known he’d be so far away, without a sister ship for reinforcement, running low on rations and lower on morale across the entire ship, he wouldn’t have been so eager. Orders are orders, he reminded himself as he laid in bed, staring at the ceiling as the smell of his last cigarette lingered through the cabin, slowly being filtered out. He keyed his PDA, setting an alarm to wake him once more in three hours, with subsequent alarms set in minute increments afterwards. The newer cruisers and dreaded carriers of the Navy had on-board AIs, however, Alliance High Command had not seen fit to allocate such a valuable resource to what they viewed as a ‘tub with a big gun.’ True enough, the Money was not the most dangerous ship of the fleet, but it was a force to be reckoned with, at the very least. Or so he hoped, it had been a long time since she had seen combat against an opponent of equal force, which intel stated her target was. Zhang sat up in bed once more, tossing the covers off himself as he searched in the darkness for his datapad. Squinting through the sudden burst of light as he activated it and waited for the brightness to lower on its own, he began to pull up his target’s file. A projection appeared on the viewscreen in the corner of his cabin, illuminating a neat room, if not a little cramped. Zhang studied what little (and probably inaccurate) information they had beamed to him. A modified ship of the aged London-class of destroyers now named Former Glory, it had seen decades of combat dating back to the occupation of the Outer Colonies in the aftermath of the Secession War before falling into the hands of its current owner, a middle-aged pirate known only by the name of Roach Mason. The Commander flipped through the screens, aggravated at the lack of information, feeling that he was going in blind against an enemy he knew next to nothing about. Sleep did not come easy that cycle, and would not anytime soon.

There are no stupid questions, but if it had to pick one, it would be "Can I have a rocket launcher?". Didn't he....actually get one?

What the author fails to mention is that it was a jobban from Warden. This is a /very/ essential detail.

I'm a full time student-athlete who doesn't have time to go out, much less work. Do I count? During the summer, I was an assistant for a bankruptcy attorney (mainly because I was dating her daughter).

If I was there, I wouldn't have stood for that. Didn't know about it until recently, to be honest. Don't worry, m8. You got me.

By those standards, you self antagged yourself, punching people with a bionic arm made of solid metal. There's a difference between self-antagging, and conflict RP. Conflict RP is the nice date, with a lot of build up to it beforehand, and justification for it to escalate. Self-Antagging is just taking someone out because you felt like being an asshole. Point is, punching someone with a bionic arm because they persistently try to hit on you, violating numerous injunctions from the captain themself, yeah....I'm going to hit you.

As the lights began to fade in from the sides of the room, a man could be seen sitting up in an empty bed to the sound of a soft alarm. He sleepily murmurs, "ARCTURUS, initiate morning procedures." An affirmative ping echoes from a corner of the room and a cheery voice crackles through the speaker, "Gotcha, Dad!" The man finally stands from his bed, rubbing at his eyes before letting out a yawn as the room began to change shape, the very bed sliding back into its appropriate slot in the wall. The metallic shutters open, revealing a view of cascading stars, and nothing else. The voice comes up on the speaker again, "The current time is 0500 Nautical, it is December 25, 2456. We are currently located--" "That'll be enough, ARCTURUS," he mutters as he moves to the mirror, studying the reflection for a moment, before continuing, "Give me the news. Tau Ceti, preferably." A click of acknowledgement sounds throughout the room, before the newscaster reads the list of headlines, before it is suddenly interrupted, "Hold on. Open article." A video feed opens, showcasing a stout looking man. As the video feed comes to an end, the man lets out a deep sigh, having slipped into his uniform. "Well, ARCTURUS, they'll have a lot on their hands over there. Give them my regards, if you can get past the firewall...again." With a tussle of his chestnut brown hair, the man moves to the airlock, and slips on a blue lab coat, straightening the lapels before keying the airlock. It hisses open, revealing a corridor with different sorts of people moving about, before closing suddenly, revealing the name stenciled in block lettering. Ishikawa, S. - Chief Medical Officer

I do the acting thing so long as it doesn't conflict with wrestling, and I can sing well enough. We recently did a one act of I Never Saw Another Butterfly in which I had the co-star role. It was pretty fun, and I love the bond that forms with everyone.

Diversify the "scientist" role into further specific roles.
incognitojesus replied to LordFowl's topic in Archive
Out of curiosity, why is this located in the Guides and Tutorials subforum? Also, there are pretty well diversified roles. Plasma Researcher - Toxins Xenoarchaelogist - Exactly that. Go out, dig stuff up. Anomalist - Works in conjunction with the xenoarchaelogist. Etc. -
Disposals is pretty easy. Fit pipes together, then cry as the burned mess and spare ID is relocated to the AI core during a malf round. But yeah, for mapping, Dreammaker is your bread and butter. Although I'm currently out of a computer, feel free to come to me for advice via forum PMs.

Am I the only one who has ever seen a stealth ops actually work? If you have a /competent/ team, a good plan, with clear cut objectives and a viable motive, it works. Furthermore, the issue with nuke isn't the game mode itself. There's nothing wrong with a heavily armed team turning their sights on a lucrative research station staffed by a monopolistic corporation. In fact, it creates what I like to call Action-RP. You know, that thing where we don't just sit around playing Work Simulator 2014 and filing paperwork with some water cooler conversation every once in a while? Calling it a murderbone event isn't such a strong point, seeing as most--if not all--of our game modes can (read: usually do) end up in murder. If we were to adopt that ideology, why not do away with traitor, autotraitor, traitorchan, changeling, vampire, heist, and all the other game modes with the potential for murderbone? Hell, why not get rid of extended in that case? I've seen more chaos caused during extended than most of the other game modes. We're failing to address the issue here. Nuke is a TEAM game mode. This means that, without the cooperation of the entire team, it will almost always degrade into a shooting gallery, unless it is nipped in the bud. Therefore, stealth ops means you need the entire team on board completely. Yes, there is a leader appointed by RNJesus, but half of the time it becomes a democratic environment with each operative pitching in an idea then falling in to eventually do whatever it is they will. There have been times when nuke was voted, only for the round to end with literally no contact whatsoever. Mission accomplished? Sure, but was it /fun/? Was there any RP, any of the role play that we came here for. No, there isn't. So, I'm not shooting down stealth ops, nor am I advocating for Call of Duty: 2456. A healthy blend of action, stealth, AND most importantly, roleplay would be the best route to go. TL;DR - Mix it up, blame the players not the game mode, and that action-RP exists.

((Bounties updated as of 08DEC2014. For the record guys, I stated this in the original post. If you want me to add a bounty, do NOT post it in the thread itself. It is crowded as is because of all the OOC chatter. So, once again. Private message via forums with a clear name, a set bounty, and a REASON. I cannot stress how important the reason is. I let it slide this time because I was so late with the update, but this will not be happening again. If you just send me a name and a number, I'll just deny the request.))
