  1. I like this idea, so +1 from me. I agree with the fact that you generally have to pump the dudes full of dex+ in order to keep them alive on the way to medbay, so this, and/or some form of intubation/ventilator system would be amazing. I'd also like to see so trying like a life support system for people with heart failure, so they can keep the blood pumping. This could perhaps work with the aforementioned oxygenation system/ventilator, basically acting as an artificial lungs and heart while doing surgery. This would probably require an incision tho, and wouldn't work to restart the heart, rather, provide the same function as it until a new heart can be put in. Oh, and make sure you make it so autocompressors are equally as effective as normal cpr because there's no reason a machine that is built to be precise can't do it as well as an organic.
  2. Basic Information Byond Account: Dr. Farson Character Name(s): Alexander Farson, Cameron Davidson, George Novak (these are the only three I actually Play) AI Name(s): I do not play AI. Discord username + tag: 4th Dimensional Being#6299 Age: 17 Timezone: Central Time (Canada) When are you on Aurora?: Generally anywhere from 1200 or 1300 hours to 1700 or 1900 hours. Experience How long have you played SS13?: About 3.5-4 years now, since early 2018. How long have you played on Aurora: I've been playing aurora since I started playing SS13. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I've played on Baystation and Aurora for some time, and am familiar with some, but not all of the game mechanics. I still have quite a bit to learn, and I'm looking forward to learning more things about the game as time goes on. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: I do. I was a trialmin on NSV13, which is a combat simulation server. I remained a member of the trialmin team for a while, but I was eventually dismisesd due to what they cited as: "My eagerness to push buttons." I am happy to say I've learned from this experience, now realising that I should observe more, and do less. I think I've come a long way in this regard, and I've worked on it ever since I've received my feedback. If it does help, I have been moderator and admin on multiple discord roleplay servers, so I do have experience in helping to solve conflicts, and excersising restraint. Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: I have, and I think I am particularly good at keeping my cool, and knowing my limits. I understand the rules, and I understand how to use reason and logic to guide my actions. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Yes, I have. There is a bit of story behind this, so I will begin here. When I began playing aurorastation, I was not a very good roleplayer, or good at the game. The server was my introduction to roleplay, and I hadn't really gotten into it fully before then. The two bans I had were one for validhunting, and one for acting out of resonable behavior for my character. The validhunting ban was quite a while ago, and can be summarised as follows: I failed to read the text from a vampire that states that my character would not remember what happened, and then due to my parents coming into the room consistently, and me being inattentive, I was uncooperative with staff. While this is not an excuse, and does not justify my behavior, I feel it is important to say that I was going through a difficult time in my life. Not only was I dealing with parents who didn't approve of my hobby, but I was also dealing with emotional problems and medication changes. Long story short, they would interrupt me and turn off my internet whenever they felt like it, leading to me consistently disconnecting when staff were talking to me. The more recent ban, which I recall being about a year ago, was because I began to bash my character's head in with a cane. I had invested myself too much in my character, and when something happened in-round that upset me greatly, I decided to try to have my character commit suicide with a cane. It probably didn't help that I didn't take any of my medication that day either. I want everyone to know that I regret my actions deeply, and I've lost sleep over many of them. I also recognise that I am not the person I was then, and that I will continue to work on improving myself. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play SS13 because I enjoy the game, and because it provides a way to de-stress after a hard day of school and work. I love the community, especially on Aurora, and I love the gameplay. It's practically the only game I play now. Why do you play on Aurora?: I play on aurora becuase it's the first server I've ever played on, and because the community is awesome. I love to roleplay, and I find that the game is incredibly fun for a variety of reasons. I enjoy interacting with other members of the community, and seeing how I can develop character interactions. I owe my entire SS13 journey to Aurora, and I'm especially pleased with it because, no matter what I did, someone was there to help. I wouldn't have kept on playing the game if it wasn't for this server, and it's community. What do moderators do?: A moderator is someone who helps to ensure that everyone enjoys the game. They help to resolve conflicts, and work with other staff members to make the game interesting and fun for the rest of the players. Not only that, but they help new players get accustomed to the game, and give advice on what is appropriate in any given situation. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: Here's what I understand. Being a moderator for the Aurorastation Server is about teamwork. It's about making sure players get along, and making sure the round is interesting for everyone involved. Additionally, it's about working together to create an atmosphere that's condusive for roleplay and character development. You need to know how to talk to people, you need to be active, and you need to be willing to make the community a better place. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I want to be a moderator to give back to the community that's helped me develop so much. I want to contribute at least something back to the community that's taught me about how to interact with people. More importantly, I want to be part of a team, one that cares about the community and cares about the game itself. I've graduated high-school, and if it weren't for this server, I wouldn't be pursuing a career in psychology. I owe many of my passions to this game, and I hope that I can contribute back. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I'm happy to lend a helping hand whenever possible. I'm nice, but firm, and I'm a reasonable person when it comes to resolving conflict. I like to consider myself a disciplined person now, and I'm passionate about the game. I'm good with people, and I'm always eager to learn something new, but I remain observant so as not to be too eager. I've been known amongst my peers to keep a cool head in situations, and to not let my emotions get the better of me. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I've been throught therapy, so I'm fairly familiar with many ways of dealing with stress and anger. I feel that I'm a disciplined person, given my past, and that I'm effective at managing my anger and my stress. Things on the internet don't really upset me all that much anymore, and I've come to realise that people do things on the intenet they wouldn't do in real life. I've accepted that there's no reason I should be upset by what goes on on the internet, because it has no bearing on my real life. Anything Else You Want to Add: I'd like to say that my understanding of my history, and how I've learned form it, is my biggest strength. I understand that I've come a long way, and I understand how I've done that. If it weren't for my past, I would never have learned, or become the person I am today. I'd like to thank the aurora community for everythign they've taught me.
  3. So what do you propose we do to solve the issue regarding creativity? Should we host workshops run by experienced players for antag and non-antag positions? Should we remove some of the plethora of guns that you say cause an issue? What do you think would help to remedy the problem?
  4. Feel free to ask questions. This is more of a discussion thread as of now.
  5. All I want is a proper psychiatric ward and medical wing, like we have now.
  6. Fixed, and fixed. feel free to take another look now!
  7. I sort of get what you're saying here, but in part I think that there is currently a lot of motivation for antags to kill rather than RP, especially with the loadout being the way it is. I just think there should be some way of making antags aware that it's better to actually have some fun with other players in the round, rather than just going loud and killing people as much as possible, even if it is a gimmick. I suppose what I want is more non-combat antag shenanigans.
  8. For a while now, I've noticed that antagonists tend to have this thing where instead of making the round interesting for everyone, they go around murdering people. This gets sec's attention, and they promptly begin to search the station. Since the intruder has killed people, they use lethal force, and badabing, it's now a deathmatch between sec and antag. What frustrates me is that this leads to a culture where: A) Antagonists just end up attracting sec, and fighting with them instead of actually making the round interesting for non-sec players (i.e. as a changeling, become the captain and run around naked to get him arrested.) and B) Sec shoots any antag with lethals the moment they suspect them of being one. I'm asking you all because I think this is an important issue. I've heard some people say we should reduce weapon lethality, or perhaps just adminhelp whenever shit like this happens, or even a policy change. I'm honestly not sure, but I hope the admins will take notice of this and see what people say about it. I'm not saying antags and sec should just be all talking, but this is a HRP server, and as such, antags and sec should be more than just roles to kill eachother and the crew. Antags can do anything they want, but consistently I see them just killing people and getting into fights with sec. Furthermore, this isn't a riff on sec or antags, it's just me pointing out the issues with the current system of antag and sec roles, and hoping for some kind of feedback.
  9. Would you care to send me a palette of the borg department colours, so I can do that?
  10. How could I go about fixing this, any suggestions? Perhaps I could incorporate more manipulators and whatnot, but that would take time to resprite. Not that I'm unwilling to do that of course, but it's something that would take time nonetheless. Again, anything to help this work out.
  11. BYOND Key: Dr. Farson Character name: HCS-0X Item name: Holographic Crew Supplement Chassis Why is your character carrying said item to work? Recend developments in holographic technology have led to the development of hard-light technology. As such, some have considered the use of this in combination with a positronic chassis. Meet the Holographic Crew Supplement, an advanced holographic projector capable of performing all the necessary tasks of a normal borg, with added flair. The HCS is a one-off prototype device designed for the purposes of supplementing the standard crew complement, in a way that is more relatable and condusive to teamwork. It's intended to work with the crew and help them do their jobs while also serving as a means to promote the SCC. The device itself is no more than a small treaded chassis surrounded by a circular metal container. There are cameras mounted along and above the chassis, which allow it to survey it's surroundings. An integrated sensor suite also aids in this. The idea is that the chassis will project a holographic hard-light model above itself, allowing the chassis to interact with the world around it. While it's still a working prototype, it's hoped that it will work to improve crew efficieny, and relate more closely with the crew. The manipulators on the chassis exend upward using an extendable robotic arm. This is then used to perform all the necessarry tasks that a norma; robot could do. Due to it's nature, the hologram seemed a good candidate to serve as the face/mascott of the Aurora. While it has no actual power, the SCC manipulates it's behavior to act in a way that projects the station and it's crew in a good light. (i'm not sure about this last part, but I'd appreciate feedback) Item function(s): The item is a spriting for relevant cyborg modules. Item description: A small, treaded, circular robot moving along the floor, with what appears to be a hologram projected above it. Item appearance: The hologram projected has different colours for each department, but overall the sprite remains mostly the same. The Powered off sprites are below: How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? HCS-0X is intended to be an advanced prototype for a more relatable borg. The idea is that while it's still intended to be friendly, the SCC has injected so much stuff into it that it still spouts corporate propaganda. This in turn makes it seem like it isn't really being friendly at all. It's supposed to be slightly unnerving, yet friendly at the same time (think uncanny). This should provide some interesting interactions, and allow me to work on developing the character, perhaps having it drift from it's original programming, as things with machine learning tend to do. What would normally be a cold and calice character can be turned into something with a more dynamic personality, but one still tainted by corporate propaganda. Over time I intend on having it develop more of a personality of it's own, but nothing too advanced. Additional comments: This is my first time creating a custom borg, and my first time creating a sprite, so I look forward to hearing back from everybody, especially regarding what you think of my idea. I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me to develop this idea further, and I am interested to hear what people have to say. Feel free to leave a comment letting me know what you think, what I should change, or if I missed anything. The .DMI file is listed below. EDIT: I've done some asking around on the discord and other such parts, and I have found that there is another hologram cyborg that exists. I'm entirely sure of it's details in full, but I do feel that it sets a precedent. Aditionally, I've heard feedback that there may not be a lore explanation for how it's manipulators work. I'm open to suggestions, but the best I can think of is perhaps a retractable frame that extends when the hologram is running. Let me know if you have any further suggestions. Oh, and as for the design of the hologram, that can always be changed, if it doesn't fit the server. EDIT 2: Added explanation for how the robot manipulators work, and modified the images to fit the correct colour scheme. DMI FILE IS CURRENTLY A WORK IN PROGRESS, SCANLINES ARE NEXT TO BE ADDED.
  12. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Dr. Farson Character Name(s): Alexander Farson (Main), I have others, but I rarely ever play them. AI Name(s): None Discord username + tag: @4th Dimensional Cough#6299 Age: 17 Timezone: Central Time (NORTH AMERICA) When are you on Aurora?: Around 1400 to 1700 Central Time Experience How long have you played SS13?: About 3-3.5 years now How long have you played on Aurora: About 3-3.5 years now How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I have a decent understanding of the game mechanics, and have played on both Baystation and Aurora for a long time. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: As a matter of fact, yes. I had experience adminning on NSV13 in 2019, but I ultimately did not pass my trial period due to my eagerness to push buttons, and lack of autonomy in general. I was always asking for things to do, rather than just waiting and watching. I feel like I have overcome this obstacle, however, and feel that working as just a moderator might help me get a feel of things before I try again. Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: Yes Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I have been banned twice (I think). Once for a few days for validhunting, and once for behavior that was signifigantly out of RP fashion for my character. The first time I was banned was admittedly a long time ago. I was still new to the game, and I completely missed the text after a vampire had attacked me, saying that I had been hpynotized. I was ultimately uncooperative with staff, as my mother kept coming in and interrupting me during my time with the staff. It was this that led to the staff member ultimately banning me. From there i'd had a pretty rough road, with getting warnings for going SSD as a psychiatrist. It was around this time that I had been going through a move to a new house, but I was also having issues with my parents. They didn't approve of my video game hobby, and consistently interrupted me during my gameplay sessions, sometimes even cutting power to my pc, or internet. This has since been resolved. My second ban, was either in 2018 or 2019, I'm honestly not sure, but it was a build up of bad behavior on my part. I had missed my antipsychotic that day, and I ended up beating my character's head in with his cane. This led to an abrupt bwoink, to which I responded saying, "he did it because he was sad". The build up to this problem however, is rather important. It was during this period that I was going through a rather difficult medication change, and I wasn't at my finest. I was backpedaling alot regarding my character, and all around wasn't the best player. I earned myself a reputation as arrogant, and unteachable. Many of my difficulties were a result of me taking in character situations too seriously, and I even lost sleep over it. There were various incidents that led up to my actions that got me banned. These are all the bans that I remember, and I hope that by being honest, and telling my side of the story, this can be resolved, and put behind me. If this stops me from becoming a mod, so be it. This probably sounds like a load of excuses though. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play SS13 because it's fun, and I enjoy the game. I like the atmosphere, the community, and most of all, the joy I get from playing my fictional characters. Why do you play on Aurora?: Mostly because I owe it my entire experience in the game. It was the first server I played on, and despite my misgivings, someone was always willing to help me learn, whether it be through a hard lesson or not. I feel a sense of nostalgia when playing, and I never would have continued playing if it were not for this server. I am now a huge fan of the game, and play on various servers. What do moderators do?: Moderators ensure that gameplay runs smoothly. They solve conflicts between players, deal with disputes, and help newcomers to the game. They advise players on what behavior is appropriate in the given setting, and they help to make the game interesting if necessary. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: An Aurora moderator has to be professional, disciplined, and impartial. These are things I have worked on for the past few years, and I hope that I am able to meet the requirements. In addition, it means being active, and knowing how to speak to people. You have to show integrity, and deal with things that may upset you, but still do your job. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I want to give something back to the community that started me on the path I am today. I never would have discovered how much I enjoy helping other people, if it weren't for this game. It's what inspired me to work to become a psychiatrist. I'm almost graduated high-school now, and I plan on pursing psychology when I get into university. I owe my dreams to this community, so I want to give back. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I'm eager to help, I always have been. I love the game, am reasonably disciplined, and I am a dedicated worker, sometimes too much so. I'm incredibly willing to learn, and I have been known to be good at resolving conflicts amongst my peers and family. Most importantly, I want to make a difference, and help other people. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Reasonably well, given my past. I have gone to therapy since, and learned to control my anger, and even now, things on the internet don't upset me all that much anymore. I'm able to undeerstand that this is the internet, and there will always be people who make a point of being upset. I admit, I used to be one of those people, but I've moved past it. Anything Else You Want to Add: Despite my past, I feel that my enthusiasm for this position, and my willingness to change for the better, makes me a valid candidate for this position. I haven't had the greatest past, but I hope that I can prove that I am much better than my former self. I would also like to thank any admin for reviewing my application here. Godspeed. (Do not put words here) (Put words here)
  13. Simply make it so that if a psychiatrist isn't on the manifest, you can't clone. As a psych, I don't think traumas should be removed, and a simple fix to it would be administering alkysine when the psych isn't online.
  14. I do think that they should make noise, but for stealth reasons, they should not make noise inside hardsuits or softsuits. +1 From me
  15. I actually quite like the idea of an organ cooler, and maybe make it so that you can order organs from cargo with proper authorization, and they come in the cooler. +1 from me
  16. My suggestion is simple, it is that there should be a sound for the airlock when access is denied. Like a DooWop or some other sound.
  17. So now that we are going persistant, I have one quick question. Can multiple characters still have one job, but work shifts at different times? Or is it just one player the entire time?
  18. I would like to join the IAC. How do I register as a volunteer?
  19. I, Dr. Alexander Farson, Psychiatrist, Medical, Consultation Department, would like to join SAMPLe, as a Standard Member.
  20. A +1 because I like the idea and because I feel it will add a sense of realism to the game and make rping more fun, also will give more information as to how to rp your character better and allow for more flexibility with it.
  21. I like this idea, a coroner would make a lot of sense, and It would add more realism to the game. A +1 from me.
  22. This is pretty simple, I think we should have something like yogstation where there is a typing sound whenever you click something on a laptop or on a console. This would make things more realistic.
  23. I like your Idea, and think it should be implemented, however, I do feel diseases NEED to be more lethal. This is partly because I think that if the germ mechanics are implemented, we need to have a reason to KEEP the germs isolated, and what is better than a deadly disease to keep people from walking out of the virology lab with their bio-hazard suit on. I think that without mechanics like these, the game is suffering greatly.
  24. OH GOD YES. THIS MUST BE IMPLEMENTED AS FAST AS POSIBLE. Also, since there is just a ton of random shit in this channel, I am LMAO. For example Great concept idea, and a +1 from me for the idea
