  1. I don't plan to play anything but a Consular during my trial, and it's unlikely that I'll play anything else command-related for a while after provided I get the whitelist. This was mainly put in there because my original character that I wanted for command was Xicic Riori, who I had planned to become a Research Director, but events in the Warbling arc ended up with them joining the rebel cell. I had assumed that this meant the character was gone from on-station roleplay, until we got the lore about the rebellion that adds potential for Xicic to return, though I'm still on the fence for it. It's not a certainty. As for how I'd get feedback on my roleplay as a Consular post-app, most of it would come from after-round OOC, and mainly, the Vaurca discord. Vaurca will of course be the interest group of this character, and the one they're most likely to have an impact on, so I think that'd probably be one of the best ways for me to get feedback on them outside of the app.
  2. BYOND key: Leudoberct Character names: https://gyazo.com/72b5b4d4f4b6017f6039cf5d9eb37907 How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I haven’t really kept too much track, but definitely over a year now. Possibly encroaching on two. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I wish to be on the whitelist because I feel like I can provide good-quality roleplay to the rest of the playerbase through the roles made available by the whitelist. Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora mostly because I was seeking a HRP server that I could roleplay on after an extended break from SS13. I wasn’t recommended by anyone, I just looked in the server list, saw it, and clicked. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I’ve received a couple of notes during my time, but I’ve never done anything serious enough to be banned. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about creating a narrative for yourself and other players to enjoy. It is the creation of characters based on a setting, with their own histories, thoughts and appearances, and interacting with the world and other characters around them to create an enjoyable story. Whether it is something as simple as a night out at a bar, or as impactful as a battle between nations, the main goal of roleplay, and what it should be about, is not to win, but to create an impactful, enjoyable story for all those involved. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: A Head of Staff, in my eyes, is someone that helps to facilitate roleplay. They are not supposed to be the centre of the roleplay or take up all of the attention: they are supposed to help to guide and provide roleplay for their department and the station at large, be it through assigning tasks in-character to give players goals for the shift, or acting as a mediator for disputes between characters. They should also act as somewhat of an example to other, potentially newer players, by setting an example of how to roleplay and act. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Like I mentioned in my previous answer, I think the responsibility of a Command whitelisted player is to set a good example to other players on how to conduct themselves and roleplay, as well as facilitate roleplay for other players by providing them with interaction and goals that a non-Command character may not be able to provide. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Tau Ceti is currently a cultural melting pot, with numerous species making their homes in the young Republic of Biesel. Some of the more recent events to take place in Tau Ceti would include the abscondment of a Skrell wanted by the Jargon Federation for terrorism escaping to the system, prompting a sweep of a NanoTrasen facility (the Aurora II) for the terrorist, as well as the visit of a Star Chanter to the system. In terms of its affect on my character and their career, it’s largely “none”. The character is a Vaurca belonging to the brood of the Queen of Corpses, and has thus been relatively removed from the recent goings-on in Tau Ceti, due to being located on Luthien for the vast majority of it, and the general sentiment of Xaxt’s brood towards non-Vaurca being one of forming little attachment. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Consular Officer, with the potential for more Command characters later on down the line. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Ta’Akaix’Vizq Zo’ra, Consular Officer How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would say that I am confident in my own ability to provide a high-quality standard of roleplay. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes. Extra notes: None.
  3. maybe not an appropriate joke to make zundy
  4. Skyglazer has always provided a consistent standard of good roleplay, and I'm looking forwards to seeing them fulfill the much needed role of a Hegemony consular. +1
  5. I'm pretty happy at the minute with the way brainmed is after a fair few rounds playing as medical. The only thing I can really suggest is that ballistics should probably be more lethal. Having them do organ damage would probably help this.
  6. I don't agree with the idea of one physician, at all. You want one physician, but two surgeons? Even though the physician is replacing Medical Doctor, which is the role that tends to do more general treatment, with surgeons being a specialised role? What is the logic behind this?
  7. i'm fine with the current lethality of brainmed tbh, though guns could probably be made more lethal by doing more organ damage if they hit the upper body (ballistics, that is)
  8. do not pet the guwan do not look at the guwan do not acknowledge the guwan
  9. The character will work as a Medical Doctor, though on occasion I may play them as a Chaplain. I picked medicine and theology due to the interest I have in the way it me'ds with the Sk'akh faith. Right now, to the casual observer, it may seem like the Sk'akh faith is a very destructive one, with the iron crusades and inquisitions. However, the faith actually preaches maintaining balance between the three aspects. This is why I am interested in portraying a priest that portrays the Healer aspect of Sk'akh, as it is the opposite to that of the Warrior aspect.
  10. BYOND Key: Leudoberct Character Names: Xicic Riori, Branches of Flowing Life, Daniel Pitchford, Ka’Akaix’Sgzi K’lax, Atepomarus, Seebeck Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: (27, 76, 3) Green. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play as a Unathi because I’ve found myself interested in their lore after starting to read into it, thanks to working on the Kataphract Chapter map and talking in the Unathi discord. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathi have some pretty clear physiological differences compared to humans, being cold-blooded reptiles rather than mammals. Provided that the Unathi in question also comes from the Izweski Hegemony, there are multiple cultural differences between them and humans, such as the largely priest-centric social hierarchy, (though nobles are still above), and the fact that their homeworld is currently slowly dying thanks to the results of a global nuclear war. Character Name: Skkukoas Ukazozu Please provide a short backstory for this character: Skkukoas of clan Ukazozu was hatched in Skalamar in the year 2430, to clan Ukazozu. Skkukoas spent most of his early life in Skalamar helping his clan with whatever task he was capable of, often spending time running errands until he had grown enough to perform more physically demanding tasks expected of a male Unathi. He became used to the sight of Humans and Skrell from an early age, when the first shuttleport on Moghes was constructed in Skalamar. At the age of eight, the Contact War broke out, and Moghes was consumed in nuclear fire. Though his clan escaped the worst of the war, remaining in Skalamar, Skkukoas grew up seeing the results of the war, and the wave of refugees flooding the city, attempting to escape the growing Wasteland. Seeing such disunity among his people inspired Skkukoas, and he began to attempt to maintain a sense of balance and unity with his people, beginning to preach the word of Sk’akh. After considering the path he had begun to set himself upon, Skkukoas fully dedicated himself to a life as a priest of Sk’akh, attending a university in Skalamar, studying for four years to obtain a Master in Sacred Theology. Once his studies were complete, he became a fully fledged priest of Sk’akh, finding that he wished to attempt to embody the Healer, believing that Moghes had great need of healing after the scars of the war. Skkukoas at first tended to a church of his own, providing guidance and healing to those who came to his church. However, he soon decided that if he was to better embody the Healer, his knowledge of the medicinal arts had to be expanded. With financial aid from the church of Sk’akh, he attended the Skalamar University of Medicine, studying there to become a Master Doctor. Upon graduating, instead of returning to his church, he conferred with his brothers of the Church of Sk’akh, after receiving an offer from NanoTrasen to take a contract with them upon one of their stations. He came to the conclusion that there were many Unathi outside of Moghes who lacked a priest of Sk’akh to offer them guidance, and chose to accept their offer, taking to the stars to spread the word of Sk’akh to the Unathi outside of Uueoa-Esa. What do you like about this character? I like this character because I’ve not really gone overly deep into religion on any of my characters before, and this provides me an opportunity to do so, and to also become more familiar with another alien species on the Aurora. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I’d say my roleplaying ability is fairly good. I believe I can portray numerous different races to a high level of quality. Notes: N/A
  11. I hate to be this guy, but at the moment, I'm not too sure I like the idea of you playing in a command role. I'm not sure if it's just the character or if it's you, due to you mostly playing as Jarvis, but the behaviour of Jarvis I saw in one round kind of soured me on the idea- acting in a generally unprofessional, unebelievable way for a security officer to act. When he was then demoted for it, he immediately resorted to calling command members cunts over the radio, then just instantly cryo'd. Not the kind of behaviour I want to see from a potential command player. For now, I'm giving this a -1.
  12. Hey, just a question- what is the RGB of the colour you want to make your Vaurca? Non-queenless Vaurca have very specific colours depending on their brood & type.
  13. I will never bold the questions, you can't make me
  14. BYOND Key: Leudoberct Character Names: Xicic Riori, Ka’Akaix’Sgzi K’lax, Seebeck, Atepomarus, Daniel Pitchford Species you are applying to play: Dionae What color do you plan on making your first alien character: N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play as a Dionae due to the interesting form of existence that they have, and their ability to form larger forms by merging together. I also like the large amount of space available for their backstories, due to them being spread out all over the Orion Spur. The completely alien nature of them is also something that interests me in playing one. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: For a start, Dionae are a plant based lifeform. They exist in multiple different forms, with the most basic being the nymph, which is a singular consciousness. They are capable of merging with other nymphs to form a greater being, in varying sizes, with some being comprised only of six or so nymphs, and others of thousands. When they form larger gestalts, they are often slower to act, due to having to have the consent of every nymph in the gestalt before performing an action. Character Name: Branches of Flowing Life Please provide a short backstory for this character: Branches of Flowing Life was formed from a group of nymphs originating from the planet of Eden, in the Epsilon Ursae Minoris system. Each nymph that came to form the cyclops had already received multiple samples of blood from the Skrellian co-inhabitants of the planet, ensuring that communication between them was not an issue. Each nymph inherited a deep respect for life from its existence on the untouched planet, and after teachings from the Skrell inhabitants of the planet, came to learn how to tend for and mend the injuries of the Skrell inhabitants of the planet, taking up a role akin to that of a doctor. After hearing tales of the stars beyond from the Skrell on Eden, the gestalt reached a consensus: that they wished to explore the stars at large further. The gestalt left Eden on a Skrellian vessel, travelling first to the planet of Aliose. The gestalt struggled in the frigid conditions of the planet, but persevered, learning in the Aliose University of Medical Sciences a more refined wealth of medical knowledge, superior to the basic knowledge it had received in its experiences on Eden. After concluding their tutoring on Aliose, the gestalt once more left for the stars. The gestalt spent time exploring Skrellian space, but soon heard tales of the rest of the galaxy at large, and the multitude of races that inhabited it. The gestalt decided that its knowledge of medicine should not include only that of the Skrell, and soon thereafter left Federation space. This lead the gestalt to a contract with NanoTrasen, taking them to the Tau Ceti system, where it was set to work on the NSS Aurora, learning more of the medical sciences. What do you like about this character? I like this character because it provides me with a way to introduce myself to two new things at once: Dionae roleplay, and also the new medical system that we’ve recently had integrated into the server. I feel like this character gives me a broad avenue to take when roleplaying on the station, rather than narrowing it down into one specific area. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would say that I am a fairly decent roleplayer, and that I am able to roleplay different species to a good standard. Notes: N/A
  15. Xicic would be absolutely horrified by the events with the Tzqul archive, even more so considering the part that the archive plays in his backstory. He'd be shocked that another Skrell could even think to use AI again, despite the scars of the Third Incident still strewn across the Federation, such as Xrim or the tomb cities. Knowing that the one responsible for it actually appeared on the station that Xicic will be heading to makes him nervous, but he has faith in the Federation to catch the ones responsible for it. As for beakmouth, the impact on his social interaction varies based on species. With other Skrell, it has virtually no impact whatsoever, as telepathic communication with other Skrell is as natural as breathing to him. In the event that for some reason he's unable to, he's still capable of speaking Nral'malic, though it may be a bit garbled and harder to understand. With the other races, it's harder for him. He can understand Basic, but can hardly speak it due to his condition. To this end, he tends to try to avoid lengthy conversation with the other races, as he understands that while telepathic communication with other Skrell is natural, it can be unpleasant for the other species. Otherwise, he'll try to use his PDA to converse instead.
  16. Just got a few questions. What is Kaa's view on humans? Do they agree with the treatment of the Vaurcae in District 9? What is the RGB of the colour you want to make them? Why did Kaa choose to run into an active riot, putting themselves in danger, despite being a worker?
  17. I think it's pretty interesting to see a Diona with experience with Unathi, not something I've seen before. I've known Cnaym to be a competent roleplayer and I've watched them start on Aurora and get to know the community and bring more RP to it. +1
  18. BYOND Key: Leudoberct Character Names: Daniel Pitchford, Atepomarus, Ka’Akaix’Sgzi K’lax, Declan Bynum Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: RGB 16:46:85 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play as a Skrell due to interest in their backstory and the high prevalence of psionics in their race. I find it interesting to think of a race that is almost telepathically linked through the Wake to have their thoughts and feelings influenced by the rest of their race, and the suspicion placed on those who do not. I also like the lore surrounding the Third Incident with the Skrell, and want to explore it from a Skrellian point of view. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Excluding the already obvious physical differences between Skrell and Humans, there are some key things that distinguish them from Humans. For a start, all Skrell are capable and engage in the use of psionics. This is referred to as the Wake, or the Nlom, which connects all Skrell on a telepathic level, with some Skrell having different levels of attunement to the Nlom, which differentiates them as listeners or receivers. Additionally, Skrellian society is focused very heavily on scientific advancement, with researchers reaching almost pop idol levels of fame due to their successes being broadcasted on social media to the rest of the Federation. In addition to this, Skrellian humour also differs from Human humour, often seeming strange to non-Skrell. One comparison of Skrellian humour found on the wiki is to modern memes. Skrell are also affected by the Psionic Dream, also known as the Srom, which takes them into a form of telepathic communication with the Skrell community at large, allowing them to discuss and create new scientific theories. Character Name: Xicic Riori Please provide a short backstory for this character Xicic Riori was born in the year 2398, on the planet of Qerrbalak, shortly after the Second Federation had established itself fully. Xicic was born with beakmouth, though the condition was largely ignored at first by their familial group, who were more focused on ensuring that Xicic developed into a successful researcher. By the time that steps were taken to correct the condition, it had already progressed far enough to pose complications if surgical intervention was made. Thus, the choice was made to instead simply grind the plates down to help keep the condition manageable. Xicic made the trip to the Tzqul Archive shortly before graduating from Federation kindergarten. Seeing the archive in its still undeciphered state inspired Xicic, giving him a determination to aid in reclaiming that which was lost in the fires of the Third Incident. To this end, soon after graduating from Federation kindergarten, Xicic went through a series of ten year studies at Federation colleges. These studies included xenobotany, specialised in the field of plant physiology, and anomalous materials and historic archaeology. Soon after graduating completing their courses at the age of fourty nine, Xicic went on to travel to the planet Xrim, taking part in and aiding the efforts on the planet to fight back the overgrown flora that has overtaken the abandoned cities on the planet, and working tirelessly to uncover any lost remnants of Skrellian history hidden within the overgrown cities. Xicic worked at Xrim for a period of thirteen years, though they later chose to leave the planet, believing that with the large amount of Skrellian scientists already at work on the planet, they were unlikely to distinguish themselves amongst their peers. Despite their hesitance to leave Federation space, Xicic found themselves drawn to the prospect of working with the NanoTrasen megacorporation, believing that they would have a better chance of making the one key discovery to distinguish themselves amongst the countless researches of the Jargon Federation amongst the distant stars of Human space. To this end, Xicic took a contract with NanoTrasen to work aboard one of their research stations, the NSS Aurora, situated on an asteroid ripe with archaeological potential and anomalous materials. What do you like about this character? I like the character of Xicic because I haven’t seen many Skrellian characters aboard the station that suffer with beakmouth, and would like to have the opportunity to roleplay a character afflicted with it, as I believe it would provide interesting roleplay between Xicic and other Skrell, and even non-Skrell, due to the general tendency of beakmouth suffers to use telepathic communication rather than physical, which may generate some interesting scenarios with non-Skrell. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would say that I am a fairly competent roleplayer with a large amount of experience roleplaying in SS13 and other games. I believe that I can accurately portray a non-Human species without issue. Notes: N/A
  19. I've roleplayed with Roman quite often due to (currently) being an Engineering main, and I've noticed that he does make the effort to teach apprentices when there's nobody else to teach them. I've only once seen him complain in LOOC, regarding the actions of security in a round. I think it'd be nice to have a Chief Engineer around for the lowpop hours, so I'd like to give him a tentative +1.
  20. I'd say the imagotis is incredibly important cultural wise, because it's the entire foundation of how a hive grows, and how a Vaurca grows to fulfill their role in the hive, with their entire life practically chosen for them before they have even hatched. I'd say that even though they are technically "born" the moment they are laid as an egg, the imagotis is the true moment of birth, making it a very important thing in Vaurca culture, in my opinion.
  21. 1. As is mentioned in the wiki file for the Zkaii brood, it's mentioned that the vast majority of the Vaurcae inside of their VR tend to be Za, with Ka being a significant minotiry in the Ny'tatyk. It mentions how that Ka might underperform compared to the Za when attempting to emulate Unathi military doctrine in the Ny'tatyk, unless if they're already pre-occupied with existing work. I'm going with the route of Sgzi being in the latter category, and thus being unlikely to be able to properly socialise with other races outside of the topic of machinery. 2. It's referenced that the Ny'tatyk is considered as part of the Great Mother K'lax's mind, which has caused issues for some due to the unknown fate of the Great Mother K'lax. I believe it's referenced that Zkaii had hesitance to step up as the new High Queen, as if the Great Mother K'lax was dead, surely the Ny'tatyk could not still exist? Sgzi believes that the spirit of the Great Mother K'lax has merged with that of Zkaii, making her the definite and true High Queen, and feels honoured to be a part of her brood. This would likely make Sgzi a lot more susceptible to getting angry over anyone speaking ill of Zkaii, as it'd be one of the highest insults that could be made.
  22. BYOND Key: Leudoberct Character Names: Declan Bynum, Daniel Pitchford, Atepomarus, Galliard Isemann Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character: (RGB 11, 43, 27) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play as a Vaurca because I find them interesting with their uniqueness. It's rare enough to see an insectoid race in a sci-fi setting, but I also like the inclusion of technology in their society, specifically with the use of VR prevalent in their race. I also find it quite interesting with how their caste system works, particularly with the differences between the unbound and bound Vaurcae, and how their purpose is decided from birth. I also like the vague sense of mystery regarding Sedantis, as it almost gives off an Atlantis feeling, being a lost planet whose fate is unknown. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Excluding the obvious physical differences between humans and Vaurcae, Vaurcae are different from humans in terms of the way they are roleplayed in a few key ways different from humans. For example, Vaurcae are unquestionably loyal to their hive, on a biological level, with any disloyalty being a complete anomaly. It is not based on ideology whatsoever. In addition to this, Vaurcae do not tend to exhibit the same levels of aggression as a human might. They do not go seeking fights unless a grave insult has been made, or if their life has been put in immediate danger. Aggression between hives tends to be quite subdued, and even in times of war, Vaurcae respect the sovereignty of a hive over its Vaurcae. This of course mostly only applies to the Unbound Vaurcae, as the Bound do not tend to follow any form of ethics or ideology outside of serving their Hive. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Sgzi K'lax Please provide a short backstory for this character: An egg was laid in the colony of K'dath on the world of Tret, to the brood of Ta'Akaix'Zkaii'xay'yil K'lax. upon undergoing the imagotis, the egg that would come to hatch Sgzi was chosen as one of the Unbound. Left to mature for six months, and then implanted with its neural socket, Sgzi was thrust into the virtual reality of the brood of Zkaii, into the Ny'tatyk, or the Mother Dream. Within the virtual reality space, Sgzi underwent training in the ways of their brood, learning their way around machinery, deconstructing and reconstructing complex machines in virtual simulations, coming to know the inner workings of machinery like memory. Upon hatching and receiving the rest of its augmetics, albeit minor compared to those that a Bound might receive, Sgzi was ordained to be sent away from the brood and the hive at large, leaving the space of the Izweski Hegemon to the greater stars, seeking to learn more of machinery to bring back to its hive. This quest brought it to NanoTrasen, where Sgzi sought to learn the ways of the megacorporation in the name of its hive. After a contract had been arranged with NanoTrasen, Sgzi was put to work as a Lab Assistant aboard the NSS Aurora, seeking to learn more of the robotics department. What do you like about this character?: I like this character because I feel that it is a good way to dip my feet into two things I've not done before on the server: roleplaying as a Vaurca, and also working in the robotics department. I feel that Sgzi gives me a good opportunity to become more familiar with Vaurca roleplay and to make engaging roleplay with other players, as their role as an assistant should bring them into contact with many players who might seek to teach Sgzi or befriend them. How would you rate your role-playing ability?: I would say that my roleplaying ability is fairly good. I've had lots of experience roleplaying on multiple platforms from World of Warcraft to text-based MUDs, and I've roleplayed on SS13 for a fair few years now as well. Notes: N/A
  23. Guess I'll repost the same thing I've been saying in the Engineering discord, then. It feels like it takes away the value of the standard engineering personnel. There was also talk in the engineering discord of renaming "Chief Engineer" to just "Engineer". I get that an engineer in real life is a different thing, but this isn't real life. This is SS13, where engineers repair breaches on a space station, fire giant lasers at chunks of yellow crystal that can detonate like a miniature nuke, and generate huge balls of electric death just to turn the lights on. I like that the have alt titles such as Engine Technician to let people specialise themselves a bit more, but forcing people who want to have the broader title of Station Engineer to encompass the various Engineering duties that goes on, to have a role that makes them seem a lot less versatile, is a bad thing, if you ask me.
