Perfect, that's why I asked. Nonetheless so long as you do not use the naming convention ISS-, I have no issue accepting this application. Accepted! -

[Accepted] Veterangary - IPC Application
niennab replied to VeteranGary's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Could you expand upon its beginnings? Particularly this portion: Also, is Shield a security unit or a service unit? Lastly, how attached are you to the name ISS-Shield? Due to the similarities to the ISU naming conventions, I'll have to ask that its changed in some manner so to avoid being mistaken for an Idris Security Unit. Whether say it is S-Shield, IS-Shield, Shield, etc. -
[ACCEPTED] Niennab's Command Whitelist App
niennab replied to niennab's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
@NewOriginalSchwann Naturally, in playing an Idris Liaison I am eager to scrutinize and belittle those pecky IRU/ISUs. Silliness aside, this is a good scenario! There are many routes I could take. I am going to however run with the first scenario! I could first request the two investigative IRU units to look into the unit and report back to me, or, I could take to overseeing the process myself. If there is some distinctive malfunction to the ISU, I could bring them with me to Robotics, and request the Roboticist to run a general diagnostics as well as analysis of the IPC in question. I think, being caught in this manner could be interesting for the ISU character in question as well and although I don't want to take their character a direction they don't want, if say the unit was to be decommissioned and sold, but it could be an interesting and organic development for their character. However I'd likely first inquire with the player oocly. -
[ACCEPTED] Niennab's Command Whitelist App

@NewOriginalSchwann It should be noted with a few of these examples that some of the results depend on the characters involved as well how the roleplay unfolds. I will however detail as to how I would start or ideas that I would present to these circumstances nonetheless. As a side note, it is my hope to approach these circumstances as though I were DMing, and such I want to further a story rather than crush characters outright. 1. I would bring them to my office, pour a glass of whiskey for the two of us and proceed to detail the many benefits of working for Idris. Naturally, this is an opportunity to play up corporate style poaching but it also allows me to organically inform someone the lore of Idris Incorporated while subtly inform the player of the rules of playing a contractor character on station. 2. By this example am I to assume that the reporting Officer is the ISU in question? How many Idris contractors are there? 3 or 4? 3. If I can pull the Skrell away to a private booth in the bar or my office, I'd attempt to resolve the matter diplomatically, while also hearing their side to the story. I wager my character would result to taking to an IR if either party was physically harmed. Although it's more likely character would file the IR on behalf of the shell or play witness to the skrell's IR. -
The Stryker's Synthetic Lore Deputy Application
niennab replied to The Stryker's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Thank you for applying! Sorry for the delay in prodding you for any questions. You pretty much answered any obvious questions I might've had. Nonetheless! What is your preferred management style? I am fairly hands off which may work swimmingly for some but others it might not. Do you have any details as to how you would like to see the Trinary Perfection changed/added to? Not to worry if you have none at the moment. I have wanted to see more representation of it in game myself, but I haven't taken the opportunity to properly look at it. The lore as it stands is fairly big but perhaps it needs a certain spark. As it stands currently, this is what we have for cyborgs on the wiki in regards to memory and personality. In being more lenient on memory or allowing for characters to upload their memories, part of me worries that players might see cyborgification akin to a less horrific rebirth. What are your thoughts on that? I am however open to expanding on cyborgs nonetheless. -
I can guarantee you, especially playing on low pop, I would be able to find the ckey of one Janitor I really like should they ready up. I know however that they, want to remain anonymous and it's not my place to question that. I don't believe players should be punished by having to choose medium priority considering there are a few very desirable 1 slot only roles. Detective, Forensic Technician, Corporate Liaison and any command role to name a few.
-
I'm not a good example because I don't hide who I play. There are however a few players I know who intentionally do not share who they play because they prefer the anonymity. If the don't display my job bit is added, I would be on board with this!
-
What I worry about is what this means for possible fighting or attitude between players who will be readying as the same role. In the current system there's a bit of anonymity in that I might know the name of the character who won the slot, but I don't know their ckey. On a side note, how would the system handle multiple job preferences?

[ACCEPTED] Niennab's Command Whitelist App
niennab posted a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
BYOND key: Niennab Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since April 2019. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I wish to be on the command whitelist in order to offer more of a presence with the station Liaison role. I think they're an incredibly fascinating role and one that involves a lot of personal commitment to the lore and roleplay. Additionally, it's my hope that in acquiring my Command Whitelist, should I hold any IPC related events, I can fill that slot if a requirement for the story or the events in question. Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to the Aurora in part because while playing SS13 with my partner, he was at the time insistent on playing on a server that had the same UI that he was used to. Turns out the Aurora is exactly that. Why I stayed however, is different question all together! Having come from a similar roleplay community that's sadly dead, I found myself craving roleplay for quite sometime. In playing on the Aurora, I quickly found there to be a mass of players that I aspired to be as skilled as well as aspired to roleplay more with. Moreover I found a wealth of creativity within the server's lore and I've had more than enough fun reading through the wiki whenever I have a moment to myself. Lastly, high roleplay environments are the only place for me. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Nope! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I personally believe that roleplay is a means of immersive and personal creative story telling. Through roleplaying, we are able to become our characters where as in a book, the story was made by someone else. And through that immersion, we are able to experience things that may be otherwise completely be beyond our social situations. Through roleplay I can be male identifying, a giant hulking lizard or even a senseless machine out in space and I think that's just wonderful. Additionally, it being a more organic process, RP allows for deviating from the suspected path of a story, where as with a book you are in a way railroaded to follow the author's intent. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I personally believe that the purpose of a Head of Staff is to promote RP, further plot and character development (antag related or not) as well as delegate departments or the crew in times of emergency. From the perspective of a Command member and addressing antags, I believe that as a Command member, the idea is not to shut down and thwart their gimmick, but to provide fascinating counter roleplay that can either add more to the conflict or drive it further. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I believe a standard of understanding towards players as well as a level headed approach is required for the situation. It's important as a player not to become overwhelmed by situations, (although no one is perfect in this regard). Additionally, from an LOOC perspective, I believe it's the duty of the command whitelisted characters to uphold assisting new players in familiarizing themselves with the role or the more nuanced mechanics of the game, as well as delegating the department in times of emergency. Although I am going for a, in my opinion, less stressful role within Command, I plan to uphold these values by offering players interesting means of roleplay and conversation. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau Ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Growing up in Eridani Space, particular Epsilon Eridani II, Almas-Hadim Al-Ashab had much of the world handed to him. His parents, successful electrical engineers and corporate lap dogs, provided him with the necessary, albeit cold, environment to thrive. Later in life, Almas' education at the Oran Robotics and Engineering Academy was oddly cut short, and he later he enrolled at the Akhet Administration Academy instead. Where upon graduation, Almas found himself under the employment of Idris Incorporated. Slowly but surely, Almas moved through the ranks within Idris and was eventually made to move to Tau Ceti, where he presently works at the Idris Headquarters in Mendel City, just along the outskirts of the Zhengfu District. Given the steady but slow drop of profits for Idris over time, it is Almas' hope to expand Idris' network and return the company to it's former glory, and beyond. Wealth and company prestige guide's him. This, along with the recent spurn of the, albeit crushed, Synthetic Liberation Front, has garnered a pressing concern in the aged Liaison. The behavior of said rogue synthetics have placed paranoia onto synthetics everywhere, turning undesirable ire onto the company's Reclamation and Security Units. He must ensure the company units are behaving up to snuff. Problematic units are not to persist. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? To be honest, I don't personally see myself going after a majority of the Command roles. At least not yet. Most of my sights are on the Liaison roles and potentially the Head of Personnel role. However, and it should be noted that, because I often make characters slowly, it is more than likely that I will only be playing the mentioned Idris Corporate Liaison character during my trial. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Almas-Hadim Al-Ashab - Idris Corporate Liaison How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I want to avoid using the a 1-10 scale moving forward. However, I think I am a fairly decent writer and I like to believe that I put my heart into every character that I make, providing well rounded and hopefully fascinating character backstories. Moreover, I like to try and create characters that will prompt interesting conversation with other characters. Much as I want my characters to develop and pour their hearts out, I hope to allow other characters to do so as well. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Of course. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes. Extra notes: Something I couldn't think to add anywhere but I do believe that by taking on the command role in game, you sign yourself up for an increased chance of death. This, in my opinion, I am fine with and I believe should be considered when making ones whitelist. If I get a trial, I would like to request it start Sunday the 29th (USA Timezone), as I have a project due this week as well as guests visiting on the weekend. -
I had a lot of fun, even as an IPC. It was terrifying as well as delightful to be crawling through maintenance, uncertain as to if you'd run into an infected or a survivor. I wonder however if it would benefit giving the zombies common? Or allow them to keep their original languages. That way, there can be more of an encouragement to RP.
-
The second option could work. However, while it's not impossible to get a white-list with very limited playtime on the server, the bar of approval is generally higher. That, and coupled with some feedback I've received in regards to your play style on other servers, as well as the issues in the application itself (although small), I would like to ask that you play for a bit and reapply in 3 weeks time. Because of this, I will deny the application for now.

I haven't played AI yet but I imagine this might induce headaches for the AI player when it comes to opening doors.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, there were a few things I needed to confirm with the lore devs about the TCFL. This is in part on us for not having the information present but currently IPCs that are owned, cannot join the TCFL. The options are that an IPC that has earned their freedom, by paying off the cost of their purchase 10x over can enlist or, they are an IPC from outside of Tau Ceti and by seeking refuge, they can either choose to be claimed by the government and sold to a mega corp or enlist in the TCFL.

Personally I have always been quietly uncomfortable by the red arm bands we have in game. Given the pixel density we have, or the lack thereof, I think this is something we have to consider when designing sprites. Where a game with more detail could get away with this due to the variety of resolution they can work with, we simply lack the pixel density in SS13, leading to more connections drawn.

Synthetic Lore Deputy Application - CLOSED
niennab posted a topic in Developer Applications Archives
There is an opening for the position of a Synthetic Lore Deputy. Please apply utilizing the following format below as well as an essay of your choosing on the topic of Synthetics. Additionally, please detail changes you would like to see made or projects that you are interested in bringing forward, even if the ideas are only partially formed or pipe-dreams! I will likely keep the application period open for 2-3 weeks, so to allow people the time-frame to apply over the Christmas break. As a Deputy, what you can expect from me is a fairly laid back approach. I will ask of your opinions, have discussions, and you will have creative freedom in your own endeavors. I strongly encourage my Deputies to have a project, first approved by me, that they are working on, although the speed in which they complete it is of no concern. Happy applying! -

I've had some great malf rounds as well as miserable malf rounds but I would never consider removing the mode outright. It is quite possibly the most DM style mode we have, granting the malf player a wealth of tools in order to weave a story. Moreover, I've found malf rounds, when they're good, tend to be the most creative inclined gimmicks. Moreover for IPCs, malf rounds are often one of the few round types where IPCs are considered as apart of the drama. I have found they are often neglected during changeling and vampire for very obvious reasons. Nonetheless, we have seen great AI players also suggest changes, why not implement those instead of removing the mode outright?

[Accepted] Sherman's Robo Rights Application
niennab replied to The7thLain's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Oh no no, my mistake! I had forgotten this detail in the wiki. Apologies for any confusion! Nonetheless, an interesting read and the application shows an understanding of the lore. It is a pleasure to see more characters incorporating the Golden Deep into their backstories as well. Accepted. -

An interesting read! Thank you. Are they still affiliated with the Golden Deep? Also, I don't believe there are currently any means of a synthetic garnering citizenship in Tau Ceti other than through the TCFL. -
I've been busy with exams so I haven't had a lot of time to draw or play but here's a sketch in the meantime. Sentiment + Penguin

[Denied] The Bristlest Feces' IPC Whitelist
niennab replied to Bristling_Feces's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Technically to receive training from the Golden Deep, one would need to be a member. It is unlikely they would sell their knowledge of trade to those outside of the faction. I will deny the application for now based on insubstantial content from the answers and the misinterpretation of the Golden Deep but I feel you do have a start to a great app. It might be worth considering this character being a previously owned Golden Deep or current Golden Deep owned character, as the server is sadly lacking representation from that faction. Feel free to apply in a week nonetheless!
