[Accepted] The Better Bear's Command App
niennab replied to BearSchwanz's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You are an excellent roleplayer and I am certain that you will be able to succeed in your trial. In fact, I'm almost more surprised that you don't have you command app already. +1 -
You are active in just about every species' channel in the Staff Discord, you're a great writer and you clearly have a passion for lore. I have a few questions however: Currently, what do you think is the biggest issue to Skrell and Skrellian lore? How do you intend on addressing it? Where would you like to take the Skrell moving forward? I don't know the team dynamic you had previously, but I feel that the role of the Deputy lends itself to being further withdrawn from conflict. If you are made the Maintainer, you may face more criticism, questions and/or complaints. Do you believe you can handle the stress involved in addition to remaining composed?

Thank you for applying! Are you able to expand on this question? Particularly in how they differ society-wise. How old is Cautery? Additionally, Nanotrasen isn't in the industry of manufacturing of IPCs. What are Cautery's perspective on their existence or organic existence? From a concept perspective, is there a reason that you made them free over being owned? Edit: Additionally, can you expand on the backstory?

Awesome, thank you for answering mine and Stryker's questions as well as expanding upon the backstory. Accepted. -
Reporting Personnel: IRU-Sentiment Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Forensics Technician Game ID: b6Q-ciNV Personnel Involved: IRU-Sentiment, Forensics Technician (Idris): Witness K’ssol’tok Guwan, Visitor: Offender Cheshire, Chief Medical Officer: Victim Lena Hegarty, Visitor: Victim IRU-Zenith, Security Officer: Witness (Idris) Secondary Witnesses: - Klaus Kitzler, Officer: Took part in the later chase. Time of Incident: Throughout the shift Real Time: 1500-1700GMT 4/25/20) approx Location of Incident: Medical Lobby, NSS Aurora Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [ ] - Neglect of Duty [ ] - Harassment [ x ] - Assault [ x ] - Misconduct [ x ] - Other: Evading Arrest Overview of the Incident: Throughout the shift there were multiple instances where K’ssol’tok Guwan engaged in illegal activity aboard the station. The department was first alerted to an issue where the leading maintenance doors to Science’s Tele-Science laboratory. When I arrived on scene in order to dust the effected doors, K’ssol’tok Guwan admitted to breaking and entering, and intended theft. Although they complied with Security and the were charged, their behavior did not end there. Later on in the shift K’ssol’tok Guwan made occasional threatening remarks to crew over the radio before striking both Visitor Hegarty and Chief Medical Officer Cheshire in the medical lobby. Although I was not present for the assault, K’ssol’tok Guwan remarked on having been struck by both Cheshire and Hegarty, prompting him to attack. Visitor Hegarty denied having hit them. This unit did not have the opportunity to ask Chief Medical Officer Cheshire. Visitor Hegarty’s blood remained splattered across the lobby floor. There is no supporting evidence to suggest that Cheshire or Hegarty struck K’ssol’tok Guwan. When K’ssol’tok Guwan was to be taken into custody and charged, they fled the scene, leading Officer IRU-Zenith on a chase. This unit is submitting this IR largely due to the two assault charges and evading arrest remaining unprocessed. As during the chase, the station went through a shift change and transfer. K’ssol’tok Guwan was however eventually taken into custody. The details of the chase are beyond me. Submitted Evidence: Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: The incident was made aware to the Captain Valorallen Vitellia at the time. However the department was unable to make the arrest. Actions taken: Efforts were unresolved due to the transfer. Additional Notes:

Cone wants to be EMP'd Whitelist
niennab replied to PsycoticCone's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
What do you mean by this? Could you detail it here? The downside of whitelist applications is that the character's backstory is laid out publically, however it allows us to judge the concept and ensure nothing of note is being broken in the lore. -
It's been awhile since I've posted. Here are a few things I've made in the meantime however. Petra Volvalaad IRU-Sentiment (in a suit!)

Cone wants to be EMP'd Whitelist
niennab replied to PsycoticCone's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hello! Thank you for applying. Are you able to expand a bit on this portion here? Additionally, who or where was Facsimile manufactured and for what purpose? What brand of chassis are they? What role will they be undertaking on the Aurora? What are their drives, their aspirations, their goals? What are their opinions on IPC ownership or the common struggles that they do, or may face? Etc etc! ((I'm sure one of my Deputies will have a list of questions as well)) -
If Ion storms were to effect IPCs, I believe that it should be unrelated to laws. Both to coincide with the fact that IPCs are without laws and that they're not wireless (and perhaps affords them a bit of protection in that regard). It seems a bit strange to me that an electrical storm would somehow give IPCs a law system, where as with the stationbound and AI, it makes sense in that the system of laws, already in place, is being effected/glitched. If we were to have ion storms effect IPCs it may be better as a status effect. However, I am wary of the severity being that low-pop often doesn't see the Roboticist role filled.

Let Liasion/Consular open a ghost spawner for an assistant.
niennab replied to Roostercat's topic in Archive
+1 Yes please. I have a character who literally can and has fallen under this role before. Once when doing so, I had to effectively admin in the role. I would say it shouldn't be a ghost role however but instead a role that would allow you to play your own character. -
An additional suggestion that came to me was the simplification of the High Res Radiocarbon Spectrometer. Presently it's a mini-game where you need to match the wavelengths that constantly change, while ensuring coolant is being utilized. And if you're organic, making sure you aren't getting hit with radiation. Personally, for something that otherwise only seems to offer further description of rocks found on site, we could simplify this by pressing a button, starting a scan. This device, for reference. (I was dumb and put an object in the scanner and not a rock, ignore my dumbness): Is there a chance Xenoarcheologists and Anomalists could get access to the library display room? (However, I imagine with the current coding, that means all Scientist roles will get this access.) Or, it would be cool if we had a secured area that we could even safely display artifacts behind a glass partition for the crew to view, regardless of their department. Additionally, I have no way of fully testing this but I have reason to believe some artifacts no longer work but there may be some things additionally missing. I came across the fossilized plant (spelt fossilised in game) earlier and I was delighted to be able to share it with the Xenobotanist who was online at the time. However, no matter what we did, we were unable to draw any seeds some the fossil. I think it could be cool if we were able to.

I've recently begun playing Xenoarcheology and I wanted to detail a few lists of suggestions I had in regards to playing the department. Personally, Xenoarcheology feels like a role that is using mechanics that either no longer fit or have yet to be adapted for a high role-play environment. As if the role made sense in the past but hasn't seen further development. I could be wrong however! Nevertheless. Artifact distance from station. I want to suggest that we reduce the maximum range for how far an artifact can spawn. Anything that has a 170+ radius when using the Alden Saraspova Counter can often take a lot of time to get to, let alone find. Even worse if it spawns at the south eastern quadrant of medical's sub-levels, requiring me to choose what side of the station I want to agonizingly walk around. At times, I have had to find the artifact site only head back for a new battery on my suit cooler and then go back to dig up the artifact. Worse yet, I am someone who tends to have lag. Since the role is already relatively withdrawn, being in Science's sub-levels, I wanted to suggest that artifacts have a maximum radius of 70. I am tempted to request even lower. That way, especially when an anomaly is brought in, I am either able to more quickly invite Science down or, if it's deemed safe, move it to the library, should the right roles be available that shift. Alden Saraspova Counter functions differently. I think the Alden Saraspova Counter should be made to act more akin to the mineral locators or the locator device in the lockers. Where, instead of following the radius, we are given an arrow. I believe this will make finding the artifacts easier and potentially allow the player to return to station sooner, and thusly be able to engage with the crew sooner. I understand this could make for an awkward situation though if it were to look like the locator, a device that I use. If this suggestion cannot be implemented, I understand. This could also allow the sprite to be changed, given that it's presently a flasher attached to something, whereas the in hand graphic is a desk lamp, of all things. A battery charger inside of Xenoarcheology. Currently there is a battery charger outside of Xenoarcheology. Which means if I want to charge the battery on my suit-cooler, I need to use a battery to charge a battery. Having a charger somewhere inside would be helpful. Otherwise, I need to move to the main level of Science and as someone who frequently suffers from lag, I'd prefer if I had an easier option. More flavor text. I am more than willing to help with this suggestion but I honestly wouldn't mind more generic flavour text to more of the artifacts. Sometimes I'll find a fork or a piece of metal rod and there's nothing particular of note other than the name. I think when showing these items to the crew, it'd be more interesting if it said something more. Foreign languages, strange pictures, particular wear and tear, a glowing portion, strange ports, or perhaps the object hums. The possibilities are endless. I could write up a batch, however I am curious how we handle them currently, since I believe it is randomized? A nerf to the EMP artifact effect. Although I have yet to encounter the EMP effect, I am admittedly afraid. I think the artifact should, at the very least, not one tap kill a synthetic but I admittedly do not know how strong they are. This is only based on stories I've heard. The Xenoarcheologist's tool-belt comes with the tools already in it. (Excavation Gear-Belt) As the screenshot demonstrates below, it would make my life easier if the tool-belts in the lockers came as demonstrated below. The order does not matter. I usually keep the tracker on my person, in my satchel, and the tracker left behind in case of emergency. Fossils, how do? Are fossils a thing? I've yet to encounter one and there's no information on how to unearth them. However we have a fossil satchel in our lockers. Is the bag meant for rock samples and the smaller artifacts? Help. Lastly, if you have any Xenoarcheology suggestions, please detail them below! I have only played a few rounds and as such, I may be biased or missing information.

This has already been proven incorrect.

To add to my sentiment, I want to bring up the issues that come up in essentially attempting to fight the mechanics of a system that is noninclusive. Finley Greyson is non-binary and androgynous. However, given the present system, the only way I have managed to get around this is to pick the female sex (again, wrong named gender) and pick a neutral/masculine leaning first name. As such, the only way my character truly persists as androgynous is when I am referred to mistakenly as male. Then there's IRU-Sentiment. An IPC shell who otherwise has no sex, and although they are in a female presenting chassis, has opted to use they/them pronouns. However, the mechanics presented offer me an uphill battle. Set Pose with always use She or He. The examining feature will always clock my characters as one or the other. At times I honestly just give up and use she/her because of this and it feels wrong every time I do. Lastly, characters aside, I think it's important that we need to consider the community as a whole. I am, if my profile picture isn't clear enough, non-binary. However, I have had to live with the idea that I cannot truly represent myself on the Aurora in addition to the struggles faced day to day. Having this implemented would mean a lot to me as a person and I wager the same could be said for other community members.
-
Yes, please. I have wanted this for a long time. As it stands, the way we use sex and gender on the Aurora isn't accurate. On the Character Set Up page, gender determines your sex. This, by definition of both words, is incorrect. Multiple written examples on both sex and gender can be found here, if anyone's interested: https://www.apa.org/pi/lgbt/resources/sexuality-definitions.pdf If we wanted, I have seen another server that break this up into both a choice of your sex, and your gender. ((I'll take a look and add it to my comment. Update: I can't seem to find the server but I'll keep looking)). Therefore you could be female or male biologically, but use any number of pronouns from he/him, she/her/, they/them. As a side note, I have additionally wanted this for IPCs. In that I believe all IPCs should have access to male, female, plural and neuter, regardless of the chassis. All things aside however, I am 100% on board with the above suggestion as well and you have my support in it being implemented with IPCs.
-
I wanted to ask that a battery charger is put somewhere in the Xenoarcheology department, or in the Science sublevels in general. As an IPC Xenoarcheologist, the only place I have nearby to charge a battery is outside. Meaning I need to use a battery to charge a battery. Or, go upstairs, however given I often lag, I would much prefer a closer option.

Haydizzle's IPC Whitelist Application
niennab replied to Haydizzle's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hello! Thank you for answering Stryker's questions. One of which was my own however we opted to combine our thoughts/questions into one comment. Nonetheless, the only issue I saw was the portion remarking on Nanotrasen as the developers, which I believe has been in part addressed. However, since Nanotrasen isn't in the development of IPCs, I try to keep them distanced from the manufacturing side as personally I feel it robs the other companies conceptually. However, I think this can be resolved with having Nanotrasen provide part or full funding (your portion) and say the Aurora is a testing ground for the line of prototypes. If you're cool with that as a background, I can move forward with the application. Does that however mean that MYRIAD is owned by Nanotrasen or Zeng-hu? I can answer this although I don't necessarily want to get into specifics. Day to day I see few issues other than what is already ahelpable regardless of one's species. -
I wanted to try and play a round accompanied by Lt. Columbo and, although I already knew some of Columbo's behaviors, only now do I fully understood now how bad of a dog he is. As such, I wanted to request the removal of the feature where if anyone other than the "Friend" to Columbo, touches Columbo, he bites. Or, a feature where you can essentially set Columbo's behavior. Such as: "Lt. Columbo, Passive." - Columbo accepts pets from the non-friends and medical attention without issue. "Lt. Columbo, Aggressive." - Columbo is as he is now. Biting non-friends who pet him or tend to him medically. As an example, being unrobust as I am, I accidentally struck Columbo during the shift. As such, as an IPC not equip for medical practices, I took him to the medical lobby. When the doctor went to treat him, Columbo started biting him. Which more prompted me to instead pretend that I knew how to apply a medical bandage in an effort to bring Columbo up to decent health. As the 'friend', I was the only one who could treat him. As a side note, Columbo seems to also just eat bandages. One advanced trauma kit and an entire role of bandages only brought him from severely damaged, to damaged. And the damage caused was from an unarmed punch from a shell IPC. Nevertheless, I think this would greatly reduce the stress involved in roleplaying having the K-9 unit with you. This recommendation extends to the crate spawned dogs as well.

Due it being nearly 72 hours since the application was opened and a few issues remain unaddressed, I'm going to have to deny the application. There is nothing in the lore that states that an IPC is akin to a child or less intelligent and Nanotrasen is not in the development of manufacturing IPCs. Additionally, a backstory is required to be two paragraphs at the minimum. This seems like an excuse to move a borg to an IPC, which is not allowed in the present lore. Feel free to apply in a week.

Regarding the Departmental Security Test Merge
niennab replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
Personally I don't agree with the removal of the radio on green. There is a number of departmental chatter that will essentially flood into the common radio as a result. Some of which confidential, some of which people likely won't care to hear but it also makes coordinating incredibly difficult. On lowpop, there are times where we can't even raise the code. With departmental security, we're essentially dividing the department, why limit communication while already spread so thin? If this and the possibility of removing the General Officer is the price of Departmental Security, something not mentioned here but an idea discussed on Discord, then I am admittedly no longer interested in Dep Sec. -
I am a sucker for extended so I will always support the idea of having more if it. edit: 4/4/2020 Recently I feel we've have seen a significant reduction in extended and I don't know if it's due to antag drafting or just the give and take that is "sometimes the secret players are on more often" and "sometimes the extended players are on more often". The recent set of days look like this, not the above:
-
I wanted to suggest that the fire alarm is made more obvious and back to a more standard red. I am no expert but I honestly believed they were designed to be bright and red so that in an emergency, when you can't think clearly or you aren't certain where the nearest one is, it's going to jump out at you. I would love as well if things were more saturated as well, personally.

Is your beyond key Kevin McScrooge or KevinMcScrooge? I cannot find it with the underscore however I can find a similar id without it. What do you mean by this? Can you also expand on the question further? What did being sold in addition to the mining accident do to Zeus in terms of their perspective and outlook? Additionally, how long was Zeus working for Nanotrasen before acquired by pirates? What did that do to Zeus as a character? If Zeus acquired their freedom only to lose it, why include it in a backstory? What do you mean by this?
