/!\ IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS FROM ADHOMAI /!\
Susan replied to Susan's topic in NanoTrasen Public Network
[The scene opens to a grim-faced Tajaran female sitting in a news studio, the network symbol emblazoned in the lower lefthand corner. She stares intently into the camera as it moves forward and then folds her hands on the desk, nodding once.] Anchor: Good evening. This is Kayuma Poslaza at ANN studios in Boltar. Winter is definitely here - deep cold has made travel dangerous, but the citizens of the North are coping, thanks to the many Adhomai Defense Force engineers working overtime to repair critical power stations that were damaged during the recent rash of terrorist attacks. The "Father of Freedom", the charismatic figurehead of the resistance movement, who has eluded our troops and orchestrated so many attacks on central installations, is thought to be responsible. Earlier today, speaking to a crowd of assembled soldiers, reporters, and political figures, General Taj'kar had this comment. [Abruptly, the scene of a large, burly Tajaran male in full military dress standing behind a wooden podium replaces the newsroom. Flanking him on either side are two large banners that ripple in the cold, howling winds, bearing the Tajaran Coat of Arms. He has several bodyguards surrounding him. His voice is deep and commanding.] General: All that this "Father of Freedom" character and his misguided followers are really achieving is punishing the citizens of Adhomai with these attacks - They have to stop for the sake of the people; we simply cannot get the food and power situation under control, nor begin to provide aid until we can guarantee the safety of the brave men and women of this administration. [Pausing, he looks out to the assembled mass of people, and an offscreen reporter calls out a question.] Reporter: General Taj'kar, Major Khazim has indicated that the situation will only be brought under control when the "Father of Freedom" is found and eliminated, and if this doesn't happen soon severe measures will be taken against any collaborators and all others assisting the rebel cause. What are your comments on that? [Half-way through her question, the general is interrupted by one of his bodyguards as they whisper into his ear. As the reporter finishes talking, his expression turns pensive for a moment before he speaks again.] General: We hope to resolve this in... a civilized manner without further collateral damage. We are here to restore stability to the North, not disrupt it... no further questions, please. [Once again, the scene returns to the newsroom, and the female anchor straightens her papers on her desk before glancing up to look at the camera.] Anchor: That, again, was General Taj'kar discussing the rebel threat. Log onto our website at http://www.adhomainewsnetwork.com to view the entire conference, which includes speakers such as the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Defense. We will be back after a short break. Please stay with us. -
The minimum time between votes is 30 minutes. Calling a crew transfer vote every 30 minutes is perfectly fine and within the bounds of the rules. If people want to leave, it will go through. If they don't, it won't. It's not a big deal.

It was 1 am and I was kinda low on sleep. Mostly I just wanted to show the work, in the absence of any sort of proper forum for it I guess. There was a development forum on Bay for mapping and such. Get some duder's opinions on how to tweak it n stuff. Better worded my intentions. This was just a personal project because I thought what those guys were trying to do and accomplished were cool, and it was a shame it was lost.

Hey. Awhile ago, the developers of the, in my opinion, very well done station Polar Station released the sprites they used, and I was inspired to revive Polar Station by painstakingly rebuilding it in our codebase with some touch-ups and aesthetic changes. This is the result. Warning: RLY BIG I know we're slated to get a new map this year, and I don't know where everything is there, but I thought I'd put this one up for community opinions as well, not only because it took a lot of my time to do things like mind-numbingly alter every frame of every door sprite for the new ones (oh god kill me) but also because I think it is totally awesome. Who doesn't want a giant reactor core engine or a telecomms 'satellite' that is just a radio tower out in an endless blizzard? Trams, duders. Trams. Nuke drop ships. Space carp am become snow wolves. Snowmobiles. COATS. STUFF! Not intended to replace the new map or our current one Also I just wanted to show it off too because holy fuck it took a lot of work and I still have to fill all the areas. Credit for sprites 2 comrades from Polar Station.

-1. Kingmatt evidently either has issues behaving properly IC or simply chooses not to in an effort to simply vehemently attack characters he has a problem with. I've witnessed him first hand break IC to randomly and without any provocation or barest justification attack characters he deems 'snowflakes' by suddenly prodding at what he deems 'snowflakey', and also passive-aggressively attack them in LOOC. In short, he purposely attempts to agitate or upset people OOC with IC behavior that makes no sense given the circumstances. He also has a history of immaturity and immature behavior both IC and OOC.

Being on equal footing =/= superior firepower. The problem with your argument is that there is no way to combat a revolver effectively other than hiding in a closet doing nothing, hoping the guy doesn't find you, or buying a sniper rifle and popping the guy in the head. Ballistic weapons aren't as inaccurate as you'd lead us to believe - and considering how this post and the previous show your sheer ignorance of game mechanics and code I'm inclined to take what you say with a grain of salt. No armor on station has any reliable bullet resistance. Bulletproof vests do not protect the head. Pop pop dead, no matter what you're doing, no matter how you're trying to go about the situation. So unless you are suggesting everyone on the station just go pile into a single room and hang up a sign that says 'dear mr antag pls don't come in thank you', I don't know where you're even coming from. This is the ignorance I'm talking about. The autolathe actually, does not produce .38 rounds and has not ever since the detective had a Colt. The autolathe spits out .45 rounds instead, and .38 rounds have never been added back to it's list. Therefore, the detective cannot ever acquire new ammunition for his weapon under any circumstances. The 18 rounds you have are all you will ever have. However, the autolathe can print out .357 rounds, and no matter how much you try to play up the antag needing to use an 'enormous amount of materials', it just isn't true. A box of .357 rounds costs the same as a mag of .45 or a speedloader of .35, 50000 metal, and you can stick the empty boxes back into the autolathe for full value. All he needs is some metal, something easily acquirable if there is but a single person in mining, or if he's smart enough to order it from the cargo console. It is incredibly easy to acquire further ammo from an autolathe and not the super dangerous thing you play it out to be. If you know what you're doing you can hack a lathe in under two minutes. So much work. Unfortunately, Brage, ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away. No lethal weapon security has access to outside of the shotgun can instakill someone so quickly, and nothing security has can counter the revolver. The only way to avoid the overpowered problem the revolver presents is to pretend it isn't there, and when you are literally telling me security needs to ignore the dude running around capping people as if it is a legitimate way to counter the revolver, I don't think you really have anything worthwhile to contribute.

Considering the CSI kit is a bulky item and can't be hidden I don't see an issue with this. Not as concealable as an agent ID or gas mask.

That I can agree with.

20 damage * 6 shots = 120, damage required to pop someone's head off. 2 clips + 1 in gun = 3 clips, maximum of 3 decaps barring anything else. meanwhile 60 damage * 6 shots = 360, equivalent to 3 decapitations. 2 clips orderable + 1 in gun = 3 clips, minimum of nine decapitations, up to 18 if lucky with one shot decaps. or 4 clips orderable + 1 in gun = 5 clips, minimum of 15 decapitations, up to 30 if lucky with one shot decaps. What are you trying to say again.

Apparently you misunderstand how police deal with hostage scenarios. Yes, they have snipers. Yes, they will blow your head off if they have good reason to while minimizing putting hostages at risk. No, tossing flashbangs does not mean the hostages would realistically get popped like ducks in a carnival game. I don't know if you've ever been flashbanged before but it's not something you can just shrug off to begin capping hostages. If there are circumstances wherein it is believed the hostage taker does not intend to let the hostages live, will not negotiate, has killed hostages already, etc etc, then it is likely deciding to eliminate the hostage taker is a better plan to ensure the safety of remaining hostages. Taking a hostage should not under any circumstances be an auto-win for 'give me what I want'. Flashbangs are not overpowered. They are so easy to mitigate it is completely ridiculous that you're trying to argue about this while there is an abundance of sunglasses both as a custom gear option and in maintenance to utterly counter their effects. Flashbangs are designed for hostage scenarios. Security has no obligation to negotiate with an individual who has shown a clear and present predisposition toward violence because it is good evidence to suggest the guy will cap the hostages anyway. 'Being a constant disruption to antagonist RP' is literally the entire security department most shifts. Do we want to remove security too? If the antagonist gets fucked by security, that's part of the game. If security gets fucked by the antagonist, that is also part of the game. They both have a lot of tools available to them, and antags tend to have the more overpowered ones. Do not put yourself in a situation where you can get flashbanged. Rooms with an exit only you have access to, planned escape routes, big open areas to prevent being caught. Instead of blaming a weapon that can be so easily countered by something even cargo people have access to, try thinking up an actual tactic on how to avoid the dreaded flashbang.

Incorrect. run_armor_check(a,b) args a:def_zone - What part is getting hit, if null will check entire body b:attack_flag - What type of attack, bullet, laser, energy, melee Returns 0 - no block 1 - halfblock 2 - fullblock /mob/living/proc/run_armor_check(var/def_zone = null, var/attack_flag = "melee", var/absorb_text = null, var/soften_text = null) var/armor = getarmor(def_zone, attack_flag) var/absorb = 0 if(prob(armor)) absorb += 1 if(prob(armor)) absorb += 1 if(absorb >= 2) if(absorb_text) show_message("[absorb_text]") else show_message("\red Your armor absorbs the blow!") return 2 if(absorb == 1) if(absorb_text) show_message("[soften_text]",4) else show_message("\red Your armor softens the blow!") return 1 return 0 //Armor var/absorb = run_armor_check(def_zone, P.flag) var/proj_sharp = is_sharp(P) var/proj_edge = has_edge(P) if ((proj_sharp || proj_edge) && prob(getarmor(def_zone, P.flag))) proj_sharp = 0 proj_edge = 0 if(!P.nodamage) apply_damage(P.damage, P.damage_type, def_zone, absorb, 0, P, sharp=proj_sharp, edge=proj_edge) P.on_hit(src, absorb, def_zone) return absorb Snippets of code from living_defense.dm. The P is short for projectile - armor can either absorb shots entirely or only soften them, which still allows damage to get through. Whether or not people can hear it is irrelevant because you can just pop the heads off of anyone who comes for you. And sure, if you run out of ammo - the max you can get is 30 if you're on the command report, or 18 if you aren't - but all it takes is one or two shots to decapitate someone so effectively you can kill up to 15 or 9 people respectively, which is stupidly ridiculous. There is no skill required to be used in the revolver. Point and click twice. 90% chance target is instantly dead. Yeah, so skillful. Comparing the revolver to the energy sword also isn't fair because you put yourself at risk in melee with the energy sword, justifyng it's high damage capabilities. With the revolver you don't have to risk shit. It's just a killing machine, one that is never used to make anything interesting and only as a self-defense weapon, which is why the absurd damage that has no counter (nice bulletproof vest, aiming for head) despite how much you try to insist the shitty, low percentage of resistance in security helmets actually does anything.

Hardsuits only are affected by flashbangs in a 3 tile radius and you are only stunned for like 3 seconds. Flashbangs are fine how they are. Using them to break up a hostage situation is completely valid and in line with how they're used in reality. Don't put yourself in a position where they could be used or where you are vulnerable to them and you're golden. All you need is a pair of sunglasses and a 3 tile distance from the grenade.

Assuming your armor eats the shot. If it doesn't, then you may as well not be wearing a helmet. Having armor on does not 100% guarantee the stopping of rounds or absorption of damage. It's a probability check. I've had an engineering suit eat a sniper round and leave me suffer no damage and get lit up in an ERT suit that got shot through like paper mache. The problem is that it's deadly enough to begin with. Bullet shrapnel, broken bones, internal bleeding - anything above 20 brute in one shot has a good chance to cause internal bleeding. Leaving it at around 30 or 35 would bring it in line with other weapons while still maintaining it's deadliness - just without bang bang decap ded.
-
This. This is unacceptable. 5 dead people (1 unknown is the shooter) out of 12 rounds, and since it takes two shots to decapitate you could basically kill all of security with two clips of ammo. The 60 damage on the revolver is utterly ridiculous. It is so powerful and can murder any target on station that isn't a cyborg because there exists pretty much nothing except the vests in the armory with substantial bullet resistance. This isn't the only instance of a revolver shooting spree (circumstances are irrelevant here, not attacking the antag, only the weapon) where dudes stroll around two shot insta-killing any hostile they come across, and it is ridiculous. No other fairly common ranged weapon in this game can instantly kill you in two shots short of the shotgun. Not even the Lawgiver, or the LWAP, or the Nuke Op SMG, or the regular SMG can instakill you in two shots. Nerf the damage down to 30 or 40. I'd like to reiterate that the revolver is .357 magnum, yet the Nuke Op SMG is .50 caliber and does about 1/3 the damage. It makes no sense. It is the gankiest weapon that can instantly destroy you because the damage is so high. It needs to be brought in line with other weapons that partake in a normal round. Not even the /Vox/ weapons can two-shot kill you.
-
Whether or not something is happening should ultimately be irrelevant. If people are tired of the round and want to leave, they shouldn't arbitrarily be forced to continue playing because 'wowe guys antag is shoosting ppl'. 2/3 majority vote is enough of a failsafe to prevent a transfer should the majority want to stay, and if the majority wants to leave, then oh well. That is democracy.
-
What you are essentially attempting to do is justify something in the same vein as parapen+c4. Stun baton + grinder both result in total elimination from the round and are powergamey; there are very few circumstances where an antag should be allowed to just kill someone wordlessly and almost 100% of them have to do with either being shot at by sec or dealing with someone who poses a great, palpable threat. What would I have done differently? I wouldn't have done it in the first place. Because it was bad roleplay.

I was bored and decided to recreate the airlocks from Dead Space (sec is P-Sec's doors from Extraction) for SS13. Looking for criticism/ideas/who knows. Medical, Command, Botany/Maintenance, Security Idle animation. Open animation. Even more bored so I painstakingly made a gif of the door + the headers over them.

We were working together and he randomly vanished because 'lel I'm greedy'. No build up. No reason to suspect him. Just fucked off for no reason. We weren't raiders or pirates. We were Syndicate ops, which means betrayal ends up with you dead. Because there would ostensibly be other Syndicate members on the base.

But really, sounds ok I guess. Dunno about troops being on the Aurora though. Or political figures visiting it. It's not really that important; besides, Navy ships would have their own crew decks and recreation areas, why would soldiers even bother docking with the Aurora? Why would they go through all the trouble to shuttle these marines from the ship to the Aurora?

Cat lore says that humans can learn and speak (poorly) Sik'maas. So it shall stay. I see no reason to change it. Japanese being a difficult language with a stupid amount of characters and being read inverted of English doesn't and hasn't stopped people from learning to read and write and speak it.

I was there because at the time I believe the CSI was either SSD or busy with something else. We also didn't have confirmation that a crime had taken place at all and just that the HoP was 'missing', and was last seen on the asteroid. Thus, the captain allowed me and an accompanying officer (I took Tuvies the cadet) guest passes to mining to investigate, which was my title at the time. 'Investigator'. As there was no crime scene at all to begin with, an investigation as to whether or not a crime had even been committed needed to be conducted. Brar was on station and so it was concluded that a safe investigation of the asteroid could be performed what with the last person to have contact with the victim not at the scene. While searching with Tuvies, we discovered the bodies, and then Brar moved to the outpost wherein his internet kept cutting out ultimately leading to the situation described. I was cut off by him returning inside with the bodies and he was placed between me and the back-up which had arrived in pursuit of him after we deduced he could be the only murderer.
