Cattle prods are weapons. You hold them. They can be disarmed. Unlike stungloves. Frankly, security shouldn't have the monopoly on instastun weapons of any kind. Either everyone can acquire something, or nobody can. I'm going to outright say this. Militias are healthy for the game. Civilians should be allowed to arm up and protect themselves. They shouldn't be expected to sit back and let HEROES OF THE STATION. SECURITY AND ERT ONLY handle every little thing. Yes, they have roles. They should fill those roles. No, they shouldn't hunt antagonists actively. They should, however, be permitted to defend themselves. If the situation is bad enough, they should be allowed to fight back. I will repeat this again and again. Security should not have a monopoly on resisting or countering antagonists. That is counter to everything SS13 stands for. While Aurora may consider itself different, in the end of the day we are still part of that community. Outright rejecting that one basic tenant of the game we play is, frankly, wrong.

I've rarely seen this happen, and virtually every time it does there is a large, confirmed threat on the station which is generally killing people (civilians). If this happens, report it to their boss. If their boss doesn't do anything, report it to the captain and ahelp it. If you are an antag, don't be too worried about taking out someone who is blatantly armed. (Which should include engineers with bats, hulk geneticists, anyone in security, or armed scientists.) By arming up, they are making themselves a valid target. As for stun gloves, lets please not nerf them without providing a suitable alternative. If we port over baystations improvised weapon code (which includes cattle prods and spears.) then maybe, but denying people the ability to arm up will just make aurora feel even more security-centric and drive people out of other departments and into the hugely bloated security department. Slightly Off-Topic, but relevant: Virtually /every/ single person I try and get to try Aurora already complain that we are far too security-focused when it comes to antagonists(mind, these are people from Baystation, which is ALSO very heavily security-focused!). We probably need to keep away from putting too much power and responsibility in the hands of security alone. Security doesn't exist to solely fight antagonists, and other departments need to be involved/permitted to act against antagonists. I, personally, see no issue with allowing scientists, engineers, civilians, and medics to arm up. As long as said players understand that by doing so they are making themselves a valid target. Frankly, I prefer seeing the station arm up against a common foe over seeing an ERT called. It's more fun for the players, and doesn't bring in an outside Deus Ex Machina to save the day.

Complaint - Security team/Command Of Secret 3rd May.

...basically this. I mean, there is a reason I don't like having him on my side when I'm a ling or cultist. -
B-b-but I-I-I d-d-don't h-have any of those. My Xenos aren't angsty. My women are mostly middle-lower class. I don't have ANY ex-militants. ... AAAAAAAAAHH /fleestheantisnowflakepitchforks.

Steals Nasir's slot. 0/10. Would not ERP. Naw! kidding. So far he seems to know his stuff. It felt neat to hear you mention that we do similar things as chief. Maybe i'll get a chance to play under ya at some points, but overall he's been solid and enjoyable to work with. 7.5/10 - 8/10, need more interaction!

Right! This is a little, mostly-flavor idea that branched out of a brainstorming session. "Ion storms should make IPCs act drunk." Stuttering, stumbling, maybe even a bit of fuzzy vision. Nothing horribly debilitating, just a few minutes of interference with their operations when station electronics are affected. -Your thoughts?

Meoweykins I have to agree. There isn't another character I love to dread seeing their arrival. He's pretty much a perfect IAA

I dislike it. It looks far worse than redsec ever did. Very much want the old uniforms back.

Hi. I wrote that directive. The point of the directive was not to make it harder to modify your department, but rather easier for the bartender/chef/QM to remodel. Written permission was only intended to be required for people who are NOT in charge of the department (So like, if you have an assistant or engineer do the change). Vending machines, however, always need a full-on station modification request form with the CE or Captain's approval. Xander went a little overboard here. The wording of the directive may need to be tweaked a little. Sorry, but windows are structural! Most of them serve an important purpose (such as splitting up a large area so it can be re-pressurized neatly) and adding in windows can sever pump-syphon pairs. This is the sort of change the CE really needs to sign off on. "A few windows" is really more than just that.

I've suggested something similar to this. A few times.

We already did this on the upcoming map update.

I shoot them at that point Even the pretty ones?

Perhaps have it deal consistent, high damage every second instead? 10 damage/second would break and remove the affected limb quickly without having an instant means to grind something off.
-
Way too fast. Some particularly slow players would have their limbs ground off while they were typing out emotes. I'm also against anything that gibs players by default. The gibber is bad enough that it works on humanoids while emagged. Our gibber doesn't even need to be emagged to work :$ We changed that from Bays. (To my knowledge anyways) You mean changed it from TG's code. Which is bloody awful. The ability to remove players from the round for no cost is terrible. There was a very good reason why it required an emag.

The pipe dispenser spawns in atmospherics. Engineers only have access if atmos techs or the CE allow them to get to the machinery. I see no issue. (P.s. Turn off the scrubber. Then unwrench it)
-
I worry about hacking speed with NanoUI. NanoUI interfaces are notoriously slow and sometimes quite cumbersome.

I'm pretty sure taj uh.. do not have knots. I mean... ask Sue. But I'm fairly certain they don't? Perhaps it is best to uh, not discuss this anyway. Tajara: Fuzzball, Fuzzbrain, Dumb Cat, Catbeast, Slave. I still use it to throw them humeys off balance. Better be careful who you use it on. Someone might get it in their head to strip ya to confirm that it is or isn't the case.

[Accepted] Space Christians: Aeretic Order

Generally no. Though part of their ritual for making holy water may be dunking a bluespace crystal into a container of water. (teleporting it) -
Teamwork focus has absolutely nothing to do with your access or gear, and is entirely dependent on the people involved. THAT SAID. I don't feel that atmos techs should have access to insulated gloves by default, however, as they don't need that equipment to fill their role. I also don't feel engineers should have air alarm access by default, as likewise they do not need that access to fill their role. I do feel that no matter what you do mechanically, most technicians and engineers will end up sharing proprietary equipment and access regardless of what you do mechanically. And I do feel that OOCly trying to enforce distinctions will end in failure and much bitter, pointless bickering.

And that is fine. However! Let's say that by some coincidence all the linux people in your department were out with the Indian Crow Flu, and you were left there nearly alone. During this time the cluster updates and crashes hard. The folks who can reboot it do not have access and are not on site. You are trained in how to fix it. Your supervisor (for the sake of this argument, your supervisor isn't trained in linux at all) knows this. This cluster needs to be unfucked by the morning. I'd wager your supervisor would be willing to grant you temporary access, probably with oversight and with a few calls to the folks responsible (to guide you through any rough patches). And honestly, assuming the problem isn't outside of your skill set you could probably certainly DO it. Permission does not equate to ability. Essentially. I've personally, when working for a IT firm, configured citrix routers with assistance while working alone. It was an emergency situation, and I couldn't get another person over to help. I had no citrix training, but with a bit of assistance and knowledge of other, similar systems I was able to work my way through. For the incident I was given elevated credentials to get the machine online and functioning. The client was a bank. Some of the most security-minded individuals in the private business world.

Do you mean multiple departments, or multiple areas within the same department? As those are very much different beasts. It takes a lot longer to learn skills that one has not training/basis in than it would to expand ones knowledge within their field. A medical doctor being competent or even holding a minor in chemistry is very different than a security officer with command training picking up advanced medical training.

I believe on the NSS Aurora we use Sol standard time and dates as Tau Ceti is a SA colony. Standardization and such.
