I think you're getting too caught up in the analog tail idea when I'm just suggesting tails in general, and using a plug tail as an example of one that could exist. As for the inconvenience and potential danger of them, Humans already do plenty of things that are inconvenient for their aesthetic benefit. See also, a Tajara, Unathi, or Skrell all face difficulties with their strictly impractical tails, being impractical for a human society. For an IPC, its an aesthetic choice on the part of either the owner or the unit itself that incurs difficulties. Also, I've never really understood the general dislike for things like elf ears, cat ears, tails, etc. and them being bizarre. Body modification isn't that crazy, you already have people in the 21st century doing things like giving themselves elf ears or split tongues.

I feel like i should also tack on a clarification that only occurred to me now. This is a suggestion for an optional tail for IPC's. I am not suggesting that all IPC's get tails, but rather for them to be made available as a cosmetic item. I will be making an addendum to the OP.

Thank you for the well written reply. You're absolutely not coming off as just "i dislike it and don't want it." To counter some of the points: "It would clash with the direction of aurora since its somewhat gimmicky and impractical" IPC's already have completely gimmicky and impractical aspects to them, namely the entirety of the golden deep and its aesthetic. The Eccentric Coat, for example, is a hilariously over the top piece of clothing that makes them look deeply unserious. And its cool as fuck, so it works. IPC's in general also have the antenna, which are functionally useless and only serve as an aesthetic choice that arguably hinders them. "it raises the question of why a design company would choose a very obviously animalistic and biological design for something that could be easily done otherwise." As I stated in the original, it can be an in universe fluff of adding extra dexterity and mobility on top of the dexterity and mobility inherent to the ZHMB design. Animalistic and biological features already see use in robots due to their utility in real life. An example off the top of my head: Harvard recently put a ton of research into a tentacle-gripper robot that emulates a more biological grip because it allows for both better grip and control over an object and its far more gentle. I don't think its a stretch for robotics in aurora to emulate biological life as well. "I think it encroaches on species lore to some degree" I think I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think its particularly fair to use this as a reason. No one species should have a monopoly on an idea or a feature, or at least one as generic as tails. It would have been kindof lame if Skrell or Vaurca didn't get their tails because Tajara and Unathi already have them, right? "I do think something similar you might be looking for/might accomplish the same thing is nonhuman and bizarre legs and arms" On a less serious note/reply: jokes on you, I want both of these things. More robotic features for my IPC's limbs would be insanely cool. Give me the zeng hu blade legs on my shell and a tail. it would go so hard.

I think you should engage with the topic before asking for dismissal. Or let anyone else engage with it, really. Do you have an issue with it or a reason why we shouldn't implement it, @CampinKiller?

I want my robot to have a tail. Why? Because they're cool and cute and I like tails on my OC's. There's little grand justification beyond that but I will proceed to make some watsonian justifications since my doyalist one is both simple and probably unconvincing. Reasons for tails In Universe: IPC's are often made with the aesthetic appeal to them in mind, this is most obvious with Shells, Bishops, and arguably Baselines. Giving these groups tails as an aesthetic option much like antenna would be in line with existing lore Zeng-Hu could reasonably add them to their Zeng-Hu mobility frame to enhance their abilities. These frames are designed with speed and agility in mind. Creatures with tails such as the cheetah utilize their tails for weight shifting in motion. Other creatures like monkeys and binturongs also utilize prehensile tails for advanced agility through arboreal environments. And of course, creatures like the common house cat utilize tails for balance among other things With the Synthetic Rework in da works, we could stylize some tails as a duel use item, being used to both charge an IPC, having some kind of connector on the end, and to serve aesthetically as just. a tail. A charging cord tail. However I don't want Matt to go Aw Fuck Another Thing To Add To This Project so mechanically these plug tails would do fuck all, at most disappearing when the charging cord is used since its being plugged in. I'm sure there's more good in universe reasons to give IPC's tails, however I don't think all IPC's should have tails. In fact, Industrials should explicitly be disallowed from having tails, since they're made for industrial environments and basic industrial safety is to not have any lose accessories that can get caught in machinery. For anyone who doubts how cool robot tails are, please look up robots with tails or otherwise contact me privately so I can send you cool images of robots with tails. Addendum: This suggestion is for an optional cosmetic item/prosthetic/however its implemented that is a tail. Not for all IPC's to get tails.

2467 Crescent Expanse: Warp Lane 7 Arc — Ship Navigation

Brian "Elizabeth" Pinkman, Hanger Technician: A message sent out as follows: I'm gonna keep it real, best bet's gonna be moving somewhere. There's nothing for us here. Whatever we do next though, we need to A. Not act like assholes and B. Actually make sure we got everything instead just following orders or whatever. We need to take our time and like, be thorough. Let ops and engineering fully look into wherever we go. -

Awhile ago (god knows how long, its august at the time of writing and I still feel like we're in march) some changes were made to the rendering I think? And it removed the old scaling options we had. Before, we used to be able to pick some options that allowed for close up shots, reducing the screen from 15x15 tiles down to something like 9x9 and 5x5? I know this isn't really much of an issue in instances where people are taking a group photo, but it becomes a problem when you're trying to get high res shots of a situation around you, a room, etc. Or when you're tying to use the painting canvas. The painting canvas is impossible to use well without external tools, and even then its a time consuming process, far more than it used to be with the previous scaling options. Its fine and survivable without, we've been doing it for what, a year now? But it would be great if we could bring back these features for painting or introduce some new system for painting so that we can paint pixel art in game a lot easier than we used to.

Just to humor the idea of having a way to verify someones age: Have a staff applicant record a video of them buying something that they can only buy if they're 18 or older. A pack of cigarettes, a $1 scratch off lottery ticket, alcohol, scissors, etc. Tangentially related, I think Aurora just needs to rip off the bandaid and become an 18+ no erp server. I think its silly that we're trying to reinforce this 13+ standard when almost all of us are at least in our 20s or hitting 30s. I bet if we did a survey, we'd find that less than 2% of our users are under 18.

A possible solution, at least during peak times such as events, would be to enlist janitors for refilling those vendors. I dont think its common knowledge (given my lack of seeing anyone ask a janitor to top off a vending machine), but janitors do have a vending machine of their own that dispenses resupply canisters. These canisters allow for the refill of the corresponding vending machine, straightforward enough.

What it says on the tin. EAL to me should be a free language. They're robots, and thus less bound to the limits of the brain like organics are, they might as well have access to the robot language. But, if we wanted to maintain the current language limit, it could be just mandatory. The wiki states: "Typically all synthetics, IPCs included, are able to transmit and translate Encoded Audio Language." Which I think is plenty good reason to make it mandatory. Having it a freebie would just be nice, though. I can imagine there will be concerns of conversation exclusion, but every species has their exclusive languages and its never really an issue these days. I remember it being one about 4 years ago, but thats it. These days language exclusion is pretty rare and when it is done? Its intention is to enhance an RP situation, not try and keep someone out. At least in my experience, our community is very good at trying to include other players/characters.

I wasn't there for whatever discussion there was for it, so here's my unbiased two bits. I don't like it being a title card because its not very tasteful. I'd personally prefer it to be removed, but I also don't think its the end of the world. Take a chill pill y'all, this is not that deep. Its difficult to say *exactly* what makes it distasteful because distasteful as a concept relies heavily on one's own personal preference. I'm struggling to find a way to articulate exactly why I find myself objecting to its placement in our lobby art.

[TRIAL] hazelmouse - Mapper Application
CourierBravo replied to hazelmouse's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Hazel has consistently shown quality mapping and code skills, the ability to learn and utilize new skills, teach others what they've learned, and worked collaboratively with others. She'd be a great addition to our team. -
Move cargo orders from the database to the codebase
CourierBravo replied to greenjoe's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
I'd deeply enjoy this change if implemented -
If I can figure it out, yes. I'd like to implement two different selections. One generic selection for everyone to take, and the flag stickers for consulars to take. I think I'm gonna divide them up by what group makes the most sense to have them. For example, fisanduh and the free tajaran alliance flag stickers will go in with the coalition stickers. Since we don't have any solarian consulars for lore reasons, I think I'll leave those as ones to be found. This is not set in stone, just the vague next step after I work through all of this.

Trade offer: I get: sticker sprites You get: my eternal gratitude and a mention in the changelog Hi, so I've made a realization that we have stickers, but we don't have any stickers except for gold stars and googly eyes. So, I wanna get more sticker sprites. This thread exists so i can get y'all's coordination to sprite up a bunch of stickers and submit them here. At which point, I'll add them to the game! You don't need any fancy art program, all you need is an image editor of any kind, a 32x32 canvas with transparency for unused pixels, and an idea. If you don't have any art programs and want a starting place, try using photopea, a browser based photoshop. Its what I use to make almost all of my edits. Rules: No reference stickers. This is is more for blatant references or such. Also, stickers that are character specific. If you want a custom item for your character that is a sticker, though? We can talk. No NSFW. Don't make a dick sticker or something. No stickers bigger than 11x11 pixels. Make them as small as possible if you can, 3x4 is probably the smallest you can get away with but go nuts. Opaque pixels only, don't reduce transparency. No stickers from different servers, i dont wanna track down every source. So be original. Submissions can be in the form of PNGs or GIFs, i can work it out from there. No neeed to make it a .dmi If you want some starting inspiration, this idea started with the concept of 'corporate stickers.' A sticker thats each chainlink members logo plus the SCC itself, and then an antag/emag sticker that's Einstein Engine's logo.

Machinist Specific Protolathe -- Inventory Community Poll

There's plenty of basic items in the protolathe already, its fine. The autolathe already has plenty of things it can make, it doesn't need that much more. -

Hydroponics - Feedback from hydro players
CourierBravo replied to CourierBravo's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
I dont think that's true. I don't have the stats for how much the job is played, but I very, very rarely see any hydroponics players. Hence, this thread.
