A Total Rework-Removal of In-Game Cloning
Xelnagahunter replied to IAmCrystalClear's topic in Archive
There is a lot of talk here regarding the regrowing of limbs and potentially organs since missing organs would also pose an issue. There was a time that we had a place for that. I'm not sure why we removed genetics, but it seems like bringing bits of that role back is what people kinda want if the loss of cloning. I'm not 100% sure what genetics did but I'm pretty sure they had a machine for creating organic parts. Perhaps that device could be returned to the medical department for that purpose? -
1 dismissal - Allow us to see our own notes
Xelnagahunter replied to TheOrleans's topic in Rejected Policy
Notes aren't actually meant to be as scary as some people think they are. I have a few notes, one about naming conventions on my first day and another about wearing a voidsuit while chilling at the bar (a form of powergaming). More may exist but those are issues that I know I was bwoinked about years ago. If I break a rule, those notes should mean next to nothing at this point as both of them were for minor incidents of "Sorry, I didn't realize." followed by corrective behavior. They were also ages ago. They are there though and will always be. Your notes allow the staff team to determine if you've been spoken to about a thing before. It's not actually a warning system when used properly, it's communication among the staff that is performed in game. Should someone have to bwionk me in the future regarding the wearing of a very uncomfortable space suit when not needed, they will know I've been spoken to previously and can apply a warning. If it's not something that can be seen currently, then I agree with bans of all types being something that can be see, along with dates and if they were lifted or not. -
Character firings have always been a very rare form of punishment. This usually requires insanely heavy breaking of regulations or highly repetitive major regulation breaks. The mass majority of our ruling tend to end up in minor injunctions such as no contact orders, temporary demotions, or permanent demotions for slightly more extreme issues. Our lesser punishments do next to nothing to effect in-game things, these include sensitivity training and official reprimands (marks on your CCIA Employment records that the player cannot delete). Even in the event a major punishment occurs, you are usually free to have the character appeal such things with CCIA after a time, including being fired in most cases. Don't let a fear of CCIA actions stifle your RP. We are there to build upon such RP, not to cripple it. Weaponized IRs are also treated differently when found, though since a lot has changed since I was on the team last I am not entirely sure what the procedure is if we discover them.

Conspiir has the right of it in my opinion. Most of the decision should be made with the though of "can we contain this" in mind. If it's not containable, ERT is the best route. If you could prevent it from leaving the station with you, but cannot function on station with it present potentially because it can't be contained normally, then an EVAC is best. If you can function at least mostly normally, albeit at code red or blue, then you should just play the round. Try to minimize time spent in code red though, especially after the 2 hour mark. (I've been stuck in a 4 hour round way back because we were at code red for 3 hours.) It's not really hard to think about what justifies it, but also take into account how the round is going and character mindsets. HoS characters are likely to want ERT to help dominate the antag in a fight, but the CMO should want to get patients off the station as much as possible. Brave characters will want to stay and will vote as such and cowardly characters will want to run. There are a lot of things to take into account beyond the basics.

Give the medical examination rooms at least a bit of usefulness
Xelnagahunter replied to KingOfThePing's topic in Archive
This is actually a nifty idea, but information such as this should be placed in character setup, not typed randomly every time you measure a person. Metric Kilograms is a perfect unit to use as it is a worldwide standard almost everywhere and plenty of conversion calculators exist. People would start with a standard number if they don't customize it, just like character age is locked at 30, just make it a well average number for height and weight. In all this is actually a good idea and I'd love to see it. I don't play medical, but perhaps this might give people reason to "schedule" checkups for their characters if the docs actually feel like the game helps them do those and are confident in them. -
[+2 dismissal] Remove antag opt-out
Xelnagahunter replied to legitimatespaceperson's topic in Rejected Policy
As someone who is opted out of most antag roles, allow me to explain why this is a thing. I'm not robust at all. If I were to roll things such as a team antag like raider or heister, I'd be the one person on the team that couldn't be relied on. In general my mastery of the game's mechanics is low, it's in the lore where I shine, making me perfectly suited to civilian roles and the IAA role that I'm on so often. I play an apprentice/assistant and that's it. I have a few antag roles on and if I'm in a round where I happen to roll an antag role that I feel I'm not ready for, I ask for it's removal so someone else can do it. Otherwise I try to learn how my stuff works and usually do a terrible job of it, making the round not fun for anyone involved. Just some reasoning. -
Staff Complaint - 3 Days ban by House of Synth
Xelnagahunter replied to TheOrleans's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
The character complaints section is an OOC moderation tool for non-rule breaking things that really can't be covered via IRs. An IR is a great way to pin someone if the events within are cannon, however this cannot be done all the time. CCIA actions are an IC version of an OOC slap on the wrist. This character should then be played as having dealt with those repricussions. If they are not punishment gets worse, in the form of single character "job-bans" and eventually "character-bans" from CCIA actions. Ignoring these leads to administrative action eventually. If you are being a shit character when antags are around because "hurr durr it's not cannon!" then admins very much so should step up and do something about it. I'm not accusing you of anything, I'm just correcting a mindset that IC actions must always be punished ICly. This is false. OOC action is how we promote good RP. This is from both sides of the fence as I have served on both the Moderation and CCIA teams. -
[Accepted]Cnaym's command whitelist app
Xelnagahunter replied to Cnaym's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Having played with Cnaym a few times since the trial started, I'm only more convinced that they deserve the whitelist. Their characters are realistic and self-serving, but they do their jobs. They go out of their way to reach out to the crew and be of help whenever they are needed. I've not seem them ignoring the station and the like as I've seen often with RD roles that get "absorbed into their work" and don't respond to anyone or anything going on around them. My +1 still strongly applies. -
[Accepted]Cnaym's command whitelist app
Xelnagahunter replied to Cnaym's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've interacted with Cnaym in major ways on three memorable occasions. The first was during my attempts to relearn how to play the game after an extended leave of 2+ years. I joined and an engineering apprentice and Spike was the one who went out of her way to teach my knucklehead a few things. When she got busy, she helped organize another to help my out. This is a prime example of head of staff RP. The remainder of my experiences are something Cnaym briefly mentioned in the application, my Diona spreading word about an aspect of their philosophy. While many times I get shut down or ignored during my attempts to RP someone spreading this word, both Hannah Williams and Liara Fei listened and at least heard me out. In all I feel the role play, helpfulness, and general capability of this player is well deserving of a Head of Staff Whitelist. +1 -
Cheers! Glad I could help.

More specifically, there are things out there. While your records are freeform there are a great deal of players whom have found templates to use. I'm sure many of them can be found by browsing the forums a bunch or even doing a forums search. However, I tend to enjoy plug and play methods that auto-organize everything for me and someone seems to have made one of those as a program you can download!

I just completed a round where I joined late as an IAA durring a crisis. Lock was an interim HoS at the time and the other heads had been compromised or cryo'd. He asked for legitimate advice, playing the role of someone learning the ropes regarding reports and other paperwork. He instantly communicated with me, informing me of an issue and the moment he had time to meet with me. He lead his team and gave out orders and assignment and was forceful enough in the role to keep people from stepping out of their assigned task. All-in-all, I say this showing deserves a chance to at least trial. +1 from me.

[Denied] Command Whitelist APP - TheOrleans
Xelnagahunter replied to TheOrleans's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
If a trial was the only metric we used and not past behavior then there would be not point in an application system that asks for player feedback and whatnot. There is no point in giving someone a trial spot and letting them ruin rounds if people don't think them capable. If they seem capable then a trial should be placed to ensure they can do it before final selection. In this case, there isn't enough evidence to show that the player is capable of using non-antagonistic characters that work as part of a team and enhance the round in a positive light. Hence the suggestions by myself and many others that they play someone other than Volvalaad to prove that they can do it. Volvalaad may or may not be a reasonable character, so far they have not landed in any major IC trouble via CCIA that I am aware of, but he's not currently head material and, as far as the community is aware, is the primary play style for the player. Your second point is true. Most people are repeating information over and over and at this point I feel Orleans has the knowledge set required to better themself or improve the quality that we openly see. This application should either sit and wait until people are shown the improvement or they can reapply later. Either is a valid option and I don't think anyone here wants for Orleans to be unable to prove everyone wrong. The community would be better if they could. People just need to see it happen first. I have faith that they understand this and are capable of moving forward with this knowledge set. -
[Denied] Command Whitelist APP - TheOrleans
Xelnagahunter replied to TheOrleans's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'd like to note that I wasn't commenting solely on Nick or any of your other characters in particular. I was commenting on you using a character, Nick or otherwise, to prove to the community that you have what it takes make the whitelist. You can still play characters that are rough around the edges and even simply "bad" from an IC perspective, but people need to see that you are even remotely capable of playing characters that make them believe you have the capacity to use the role properly. The reason I brought up Nick at all is because he is the character people see the most and you mentioned eventually wanting him in a command role, to which I mentioned that he should show marked improvement. I hope I didn't come across judgemental because of you or your characters as I've had little more than a passing interaction with any of them. I don't play security and I've not bothered playing any command role since I returned to the community to ensure I learn all the new lore and other things before I play a decision making character, so I haven't had many chances to closely interact with you. I will begin making an effort to watch for you when I am on the server, maybe I can find actually helpful information to give you a proper show of if I support you or not. Either way, best of luck again. -
[Denied] Command Whitelist APP - TheOrleans
Xelnagahunter replied to TheOrleans's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hey, I don't really have an opinion as I haven't interacted with you much. I think, based on what others are saying that there are a few ways you could go around and resolve the issues people. I know you want Nick to grow into a head position, but perhaps starting that before pushing for the head position would have been nice to see. People would have less issue if they already saw marked improvement. Perhaps make a character that, even if you don't plan to use them as a head, shows people that you OOCly understand the behavior they want to see and that you are capable of it. KEep in mind, Heads of staff are people too and can have odd bits about them, such as bias and prejudice. There are other quirks they are allowed to have as well. NT would want people with those quirks to prove they have them under control and can act without them when a situation calls for it. Just some thoughts, good luck. -
The following people did not say goodbye to me last night.
Xelnagahunter replied to SmallGreenAnt's topic in General
Well then. For my part in that. I'd like to say I'm sorry. And don't worry. I'm usually ignored in OOC as well. Also, good night. -
I've played with both Sterben and Orion lately as my IAA Everett Millhouse. I've been conducting reviews, audits, and walkthroughs of employees and departments and I've done this to both Sterben and Orion while in command roles. I've held my command whitelist since only a month into my time on the Aurora and while not perfect, I've seen improvement in Soul's actions. There are concerns regarding the meta-knowledge and I've expressed them to the proper channels, but I believe they are working towards bettering themself. Speaking in LOOC and IC the intent of becoming better and betting departmental play is there. Provided the people under these characters don't go out of their way to undermine the authority of them I think Soul should have a grand chance to improve in all matters and become a wonderful command whitelist holder. You have my support. +1 Good luck.

Clear criteria for calling an Emergency Shuttle
Xelnagahunter replied to Screemers's topic in Rejected Policy
This is very agreeable. It's one of the things I think of in the command whitelist application when it asks about IC and OOC responsibility to the station/server. Not abusing the power to end the round like this and ruin the fun of the players playing antag, ERT, or anyone involved in the scenario, is an important part of having the roles whitelisted. Where exactly these stipulations would be placed is something to think about as I'm positive most will agree that we don't need more directives to clarify this. -
CCIA Staff Application Basic Information Byond key: Xelnagahunter Character names: Recently played- Atyos Tonim, Jerricho Trumbelt, Leaves Rustling in the Void, and Everett Millhouse, In the past- Eric Derringer, Qwerty, Leaves Rustling in the Void, Everett Millhouse, Atyos Tonim, Vel and Xel Carin. There were a few others scattered in there. Age: 32, not that it matters as one of the most professional people I met on here was far younger and CCIA Leader. Timezone: EST (-5GMT) What times are you most available?: I'll be available a few times a week from like 6pm until midnight my time. Experience How long have you played SS13?: I played for 2 years then had a break of about the same about. I'm just coming back to you guys. How long have you played on Aurora?: This is the only server I've spent more than a single round on. How active on the forums, discord and/or server are you? Discord not so much, but I do exist there. The forums I check daily since my return and I can be on server a few nights a week, not sure what nights as I make fairly random plans. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Negative, at least not that I recall. Have you ever volunteered as moderation staff for any other servers, SS13 or otherwise?: Minecraft servers from years in the past. [Edit] I should probably also note my prior time as both a moderator and later a CCIA agent on this server in particular. Do you have any other experience that you believe would be relevant to a position in the CCIA?: As a former member of the team, I think so. Personality Why do you want to join the CCIA?: I enjoyed the work in the past and if I'm going to be returning to the server I'd like to do something again. What do you think are the most important qualities for a CCIA Agent to possess?: Honestly, a level head and the ability to read and comprehend something. There isn't anything you can't know without reading it and filling in and blanks with common sense. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is in an ongoing round?: There isn't much of an actual purpose unless one wants to pop in to stir up some RP, be it in person or via fax. Unless you want to include doing interviews in the typical round. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is outside of the server?: To handle Incident Reports and to discuss regulation and policy changes. How do you handle stress?: Fairly well actually. So long as I can find a person to vent with, usually the rest of the team, I'm good within minutes. How well do you work autonomously?: Very. I don't require much direction unless I don't know something. Additional Notes: I left before because I found myself not having the time to enjoy the server and my activity was slipping. I won't promise that this can't happen as life events change for me, but I'm here now and want to make an effort.
