Remove the Ability to Delay Shuttle Launches
Kaed replied to Azande's topic in Discontinued Projects
And if they didn't have that option, they wouldn't be doing it. We would just move on with our lives and go to next round. As long as this option remains it's going to be abused, because you can claim anything you want as 'ic reasons'. There's no reason for 2 to 5 people to have executive power to stall things for the other 15 plus people that want the round to be over. "They're whitelisted" isn't sufficient reason for this. The option shouldn't even be there to be contested. There are situations where the shuttle is held for multiple minutes. We don't need these situations to occur, even if they are rare. -
I'd really rather that we replace those mechanics with something less silly to creating more of them..

Remove the Ability to Delay Shuttle Launches
Kaed replied to Azande's topic in Discontinued Projects
The shuttle is an out of character issue. It being called is a request for the round to end veiled behind a thin pretense. There is zero ic penalty for missing the shuttle, the round ends about 3 minutes later. -
I wouldn't consider it quitter talk so much as me just not thinking as me not thinking it's really worth adding. Sorry, we already have a sort of pet in the game in pAIs, and a lot of people hate them a whole bunch, because they're often used to play irritating pest characters who has no responsibility to anyone except their owner. The only tenuous counteracting force to them being pests is that anyone can delete them with no consequences. You bring in living pets that can talk, and you'll have people being charged with animal abuse for killing them because they were annoying.

We already had small bird creatures once, called resomi or something, they were removed because they were stupid and meme bait. They sat unused as deadcode for years until we recently purged them from code altogether, I think? Anyway, we also have vox, which are a sorta birdy, non-crew only race that are piles of walking braindead memes themselves. They even have several subspecies, I think like 3? Less than vaurca or IPC but still too many. We don't need a new race that is birdy. We're swimming in bird races, and none of them are good. On the topic of races, every time someone brings up an idea for a new race, the same answer is given: We aren't adding more races. We are swimming in race options right now. Scalies, furries, frogs, robots, bugs, plant people, not to mention all the races that you can spawn as outside of basic crew. The closest we got to a new race was jackboot's mole people, which dead-threaded months ago, despite a lot of work for spriting being presented and lots of interest being given. And I don't see what a talking alien pet bird brings to the game that isn't going to devolve into them skittering around and being irritating.

Make all harm intent hand-to-hand attacks default to punching

Unathi are whitelisted. There is 0 legitimate reason an unathi player should go in ignorance of their own racial capabilities, if the whitelist system actually works. They should have read about their own lore and racial bonuses, right here, in fact, line 2. If you are caught off guard with your ability to 'slash and have the possibility to knock someone down' then that is your own fault for pretending you read about your xeno race when you wrote your application. -
[Accepted] Stev's Unathi Application
Kaed replied to stev's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Edit: Apparently 'snowflake' is a lgbt slur, something I was not aware of until it I was informed by someone it has been taken as context for transphobia rather than 'making a character different from the norm with no depth', which was the intended usage. Apologies if anyone was offended by it. This is not a character, it is an archetype masquerading as a person. They are a subversion of expectations, a statement trans/womens rights ideals that lacks any grounding or depth. Like other people have already said, you display very little signs of comprehension about the lore, the only thing you appear to have absorbed is that there are gender roles stratified in unathi society. Perhaps you found the idea offensive, and that is why you made this character but subversion alone is not enough for a realistic character. I don't know you, so I'm coming into this without a pre-bias that 'this is a good roleplayer' that I see most of the other approving votes making. And this application doesn't make snuff, I'm afraid. Your character's backstory is three paragraphs long, and the only thing it describes is the suffering of this flat, one-note character. I see no understanding of life on moghes, nor do I see anything that resembles an actual backstory beyond what amount to bullet points in paragraph form. Even in real life, trans people are defined by more than being trans and suffering from it. What was their clan like? Who did they marry? How did they get away from it? Do they have religious beliefs? None of these and other questions are answered, your character is simply 'am trans/warrior woman'. This character could work, if rewritten and fleshed out more, but I recommend not using it as an application. The purpose of an application is to demonstrate your understanding of the lore and your ability to write a character that demonstrates that lore, and making an 'interesting character' should be a secondary concern, a bonus to the application. You can always make experimental trans/feminist characters later, after you have the whitelist. Perhaps something a little more traditional would be appropriate at this stage, though try to pick something you would enjoy playing rather than just a dummy character you're using simply for the purposes of an app. -

If you don't want to get clawed don't engage in combat with the giant alien that has claws. Run away or don't start a fight. This isn't difficult people. We don't need to implement a native nerf on the races that have stronger melee attacks because some people don't want to them to hurt this much. I don't mind it having an option to have a lower damage attack but it should not be default. If you have deadly claws, it takes consideration and forethought to not use them in combat. This is simulated perfectly fine by it not being the default to not use them. -

It's standard for those races though. I don't approve trying to standardize attack methods into a human attack type, because you'll just get situations where we are never allowed to claw people, because people will act like it's attempted murder if you do. The way it is now it's a racially flavored standard melee attack that deals more damage, and you're responsible for the damage you do, rather the attack type you do. I have never seen clawing people as serious as you seem to think it is. It's possible to pull your punches if you want, but that shouldn't be the standard. I never saw unathi as getting into fist fights. When they attack someone they're serious about it. -
Make all harm intent hand-to-hand attacks default to punching
Kaed replied to Scheveningen's topic in Archive
I prefer clawing as a default. Punches should be for weak humans and skrell. Also I have never seen a claw fight 'accidently' result in death. Not unless they keep attacking the victim. -
It is clear at this point that there is no further point in attempting you change your mind on this matter, you have repeatedly dismissed people who have disagreed with points of your idea, subjectively claiming that what you propose is the best way and compromise would weaken the integrity of your concept that death must be a certain level of punishing based on your own arbitrary framework. Therefore, I do not support this idea as written and express my judgement that implementing it would harm the ability for people to have fun playing on this server.

Putting the onus of blame on the victims of a bad faith change is never the correct decision. "It will encourage people to avoid conflict" is a shaky, incomplete arguement that assumes both that a mentality of avoiding conflict will stop a proactive antagonist from ever harming you, and that it is not going to damage the playability of the game if people are forced to avoid conflict or be punished. Is your ideal of roleplay that everyone not in security sits in there department and flees from conflict the moment it shows up? That might be 'realistic', but it's not very fun. Nor is having a trauma, or sitting in a chair for the rest around because you don't have limbs. Neither these options are better than the other. If we were going to go on a standard of pure fairness though, the new idea punishes certain races more than others, while cloning as it is remains largely impartial. Well, with the exception of the new Aut'akh race but they're still being balanced anyway. Is there a particular reason we cannot have non robotic limb creation in the game? Why does robotics have to be involved? Why do we have to rebalance the conflict dynamics of the game just to fit with the specific idea you there has been pitched? At the end of the day, any replacement for cloning should accomplish the same goals as cloning: bringing a person back into the game that has been killed, in functional physical health. Adding all of these extra steps considerations that require there to be a roboticist or you to not be an unathi, or people to agree with the sensibility that it's better to have no limbs than to be dead/trauma plagued over complicates the process for no other reason than because you say so. I don't see a single compelling reason why this system can't work with people just having thier limbs regrown in a magical science vat, at the cost of more time than it takes to install a prosthetic. You claim it's a choice on the player to not accept a prosthetic limb, but what you're really doing is taking away my choice of how I want to play this game and forcing me to pick what you want or get nothing.
-
All that will happen is people will start inventing excuses for unathi not to care about prosthetic limbs, or more people will play robolizards because it's too hard to be a normal unathi, and their racial integrity believe further diluted. "Not possible to be viably cloned" is not a nerf, it's a weak attempt to justify an idea being implemented with no revisions on the original concept. Being permadead does not encourage roleplay. Being crippled for life does not encourage roleplay. Both of them are the opposite of it, they make most people frustrated and want to leave the game. When someone points out a flaw in an idea, it's generally not sensical to try and turn the situation around and say no this is working as intended, it'll make things better by making things worse!
-
This method, while intriguing, has the downside of all but isolating a large part of the unathi community from being revived. As a race, many of them strongly oppose the concept of mechanical prosthetics and artificial organs. I would much rather some method for creating organic limb/organ replacements based on someone's DNA be implemented to shoehorning in robotics as necessary by default for this process. If we have the capability to regrow someone's entire body (because you are keeping cloning, remember, just making it rarer) then creating limbs and organs to put in the corpse should not be impossible.

Creating an unrealistic mechanic just for the sake of laughing at people for not understanding the mechanic is not a practice I think that we should begin. We're dealing with a mundane object (chewing gum) it should behave in a logical fashion, and not in a different way based on incorrect urban myths or outdated scientific information just because it makes a small number of people laugh. Just look at psychology now. It works on magic crystals and hypnosis, and almost no one plays it anymore, because it's confusing non-logic.
-
How utterly pointless. There's no need to clutter up people's bodies with unmetabolized reagents just for the sake of a 'meme' that isn't even true or remotely relevant anymore. You'd have confused doctors performing dialysis or inducing vomiting on patients to remove the 'unknown reagent' that showed up on scans. Anyway. How would chewing gum work mechanically? We don't actually have an inside the mouth slot. And it doesn't make sense for a wad of gum to take up your mask slot.
-
I feel like the boots should be made to fit the color scheme of it more, with some more red on them. Maybe make the robes also go down to close to where the feet are? Is too much leg being shown for a cultist robe.
-
I'd really like it if we we replaced ghosts that have been pulled into vision so everyone can see them with that spooky sprite instead of being able to see robot ghosts and other stupid nonsense. Also those new robes are totally baller I love them.

Let's just remove it

No. That would cripple vampires.

I have to wear mesons as a vamp...

The only thing in this I'm into is mice running away. I'm not keen on animals randomly turning rabid because I accidentally click intented them the wrong way. Though some kind of chemical that DOES make them go crazy hostile would be neat, like drop a bunch of monkey cubes in the bar and set of a grenade filled with water and this chem and a pack of angry monkeys starts mauling people.

It's probably going to be an event that isn't actually mentioned by CC announcement.
-
Already accounted for that, as mentioned earlier, I'll be adding a 'junk in your pack' event. As for handing the object, no. The object itself does not spread the cognitohazard. Think of it as being a single use object, and it's already been used, on the patient zero.

Reasonable to me.
