    Changing Hulk

You have to at least acknowledge that it needed to be fixed to not be broken on non-human sprites, though. It's honestly not even the glowing eyes and strength that bugs me so much as the hideous green skin overlay. I admit I don't like that it's a Hulk reference, but I'm more interested in making the spritework not look awful than 'removing all references'. I just don't think a marvel reference translates well cross species. Green skin works for humans because they have SKIN, instead of scales, or fur, or chitin, or weird froggy flesh. We can't just make an new green overlay for unathi, for instance, because green unathi already exist. What's the difference between a hulk unathi and an unathi with deep green scales? Bigger, redder eyes? And on the note of eyes, vaurca have eyes that are bigger and placed differently from everyone else, so we can't just leave the same red eyes on for everyone, they'd have a couple of weird glowing eyes out of place on their head. And what about tails? The overlay doesn't cover tails, and even if you added a tail bit to it, would it sync up with the tail animation? This is why I think it needs to be something that doesn't rely on a marvel reference, and is more universally compatible. Unless this reference is so important to you that you think everyone who is playing a non-human character can just eat shit? ;/ This is also going under the assumption that we can't viably create alternate hulk sprites on a per-species basis. I don't know how the code works, so I'm assuming the hulk overlay is unable to do that. If anyone can disillusion me of that, feel free.

    Changing Hulk

I haven't directly seen it in a while, so it's possible it's been worked on already, but if we could change the hulk overlay into something that it's blatantly a marvel comics reference, that would be swell. i.e. removing the green skin red eyes overlay and replacing it with something that is still visually obvious. Perhaps a glowing effect around them? It also doesn't fit well with nonhuman characters who have snouts or tails or otherwise different body shapes, and I recall seeing it before just sort of paste the human shaped overlay over unathi characters and make them look really ugly. I also think we should stop calling it 'hulk' and maybe rename it to something more general, like 'berserk', and otherwise distance ourselves from what is clearly a comic book reference.
  3. Bruce Banner is the Hulk's name. It's not a difficult connection to to make and I'm honestly kind of surprised you didn't catch it. Not a comics fan I guess.. I don't think we need to have referential gags built into the game in the game to make it fun to play. I also don't think it will in any way degrade the experience by giving people other options or removing them entirely. I have to admit though that I'm not a huge fan of you cherry picking bits of my argument and using those bits out of context with the rest to imply that I hate all fun because I think clowns don't belong in the game, or that the extreme of clowns being in the game somehow negates me wishing to change the current wizard spellwords. The inconsequentialness of one of these compared to the other to the other is largely irrelevant. In any case, I do not think the game should necessarily be devoid of humor. I admit I prefer a more serious tone most of the time, but I also thing people want slapstick, they are capable of creating their own rather than relying on tired old bottled gags that were barely funny in the first place and that they have no control over. Keeping things as they are for the sake of them always being that way is just stagnation when there could be many improvements. I honestly think you would not actually miss them if you are gone, and that you just are uncomfortable with the idea of something changing in the game that you are used to. Even if I'm wrong though, you would be perfectly free to make your magic words the same ones that we have now if you became a wizard after this change, but others of us would like to do something else.
  4. Jackboot, please. The 'greater ss13 culture' is a cesspit of stupid memes and garbage behavior that was relevant and funny on older servers before we started to try and give them structure and semblance of plot, but they become increasingly bigger dead weight. We've already removed clowns and mimes, lawyers, the disintegrate wizard spell, allowing greytide behavior, having mercs focused around blowing their nuke, the 'groin' body location, and most recently, cultists having to learn their words. All of these were part of 'greater SS13 culture' and we got rid of them. We did not need them. They had no particular benefit other than encouraging stupid or repetitive unfun behavior, like locking yourself in a bathroom for 10 minutes to figure out all the cult words. I personally cringe every time I see one of the dumb things wizards bellow in spellcasting, like 'poly'cracata' when they turn themselves into a parrot, or 'BIRUZ BENNAR' when they cast Mutate. It was funny maybe once. Now it needs to stop, please. Culture is made to change and adapt when new things are required, not to be clung to desperately long after it's doing anything for anyone. And I think we need to look into changing it to be a lot less goofy.
  5. While I agree with you on certain points here, namely the potential for abuse, I also firmly disagree that consistency should be a requirement for wizards. They are already wildly varied in design, costume, and powers available on a round by round basis. If we did this, it would have to either: 1) Be enforced by staff that people are not allowed to make garbage/rude/memey magic words (Urist McWizard shouts "DIK'BUT'HOL!") 2) Be something you choose from several package options at the start. i.e. you don't get to pick specific words but you can choose to have your magic words be the 'silly wizard' set (what we have now', the 'serious wizard' set, which contains 100% less memes. Maybe a chanting one too. Idk. I don't think that 'people might abuse it' is enough reason to completely obviate this idea though.
  6. How many bumps is one bump too many? There should be some indication whether an idea isn't happening at some point.
  7. I think Nanako was going to do this, and Nanako is no more.
  8. I don't know how hard this would be to implement, but it would be really helpful if when you are unable to stand up due to some reason (but not unconscious) due to having a broken or missing leg, or being seriously injured, you could move, very slowly, via crawling. This should still hurt you if you have shattered bones, like you are being dragged. Cause it's kinda weird to have a leg issues and have to lay there helplessly forever until someone gets you a wheelchair. Wheelchairs should make it EASIER to move with something wrong with your legs, not be the only thing that can facilitate it. While we're at it, maybe being able to hold items while laying down would be useful, for the sake of being able to perform first aid on yourself. But I don't know if it's hardcoded that you can't hold things when in the rest position. (But maybe just make people drop everything they're holding when knocked down and only be unable to pick up things again for a short while if it can be changed?)
  9. I mean... there is a reason why it's called 'duct tape' I guess. xD
  10. For those of you unaware of (semi) recent updates, there is new a machine in mining that you can redeem points gained by processing ores in the smelter for assorted rewards. They range all through assorted things miners need, like better tools or just snacks to eat. Bizarrely though, there is also an item called the Lazarus Injector, which costs a whopping 1000 points. It is a one-time use item that revives a dead simple mob. Now, at first I was somewhat baffled why this out of place item was being provided to miners, who almost never even encounter pets, and further why it was so expensive for what amounts to a gimmick item. After doing 30 seconds of research, I discovered that it is only there because it was directly ported from another codebase (/tg/?), where it actually has a meaningful purpose - since the asteroid in that code apparently has a number of hostile mobs drifting around, the injector brings them back to life and makes them friendly to you. Lacking such things on our asteroid, I question why we should have this item available to miners. Since the rewards machine does not describe what an item does, you basically have to buy something to find out what it is, it mostly exists to waste points for a curious newbie. I should also note most of the other reward items have names that somewhat illustrate their purpose, but 'Lazarus Injector' doesn't tell you anything about the item unless you know obscure religious minutae. Even if it isn't removed, it should be drastically reduced in price, since it does not have much of any use in this server other than to be essentially a party trick where you revive Ian.
  11. Hmm, interesting. However, counterpoint... -Cadets are essentially just slightly elevated civilians. They get to hang around in security and have a couple little self-defense tools, but they don't get any of their big toys and they certainly shouldn't go into the game with the mentality 'gosh, I need better toy to do my job because a gas mask renders me useless'. They're trainees that are supposed to follow an officer around to assist them and learn, nothing more. -If you are a cadet cornered alone by a bear, carp, or spider, then... well, rip you. You're basically as helpless as anyone outside of security. Where is your officer that you're supposed to be assigned to? Maybe call for help? You aren't owed a glorified bludgeon just in case you get into trouble any more than the rest of the crew is. -If the only thing you're going into battle with against a bear is a flashlight, then you're not going to come out so hot. It'll maybe save you from one or two fish, but come on, let's be real.
  12. I've never once seen anyone use maglights as a 'fallback melee weapon'. I'm not denying it happens, but these lights are being issued so you can see in the dark, not as a 'fallback/lethal' option for cadets. What you've got going there is some kind of weird gamer mentality that thinks cadets are obligated to have flashlights so they have something to bludgeon people with if they are in trouble. That... no, sorry. That's not what the maglights are for, much like how the toolboxes available for public use are not there to be emergency combat weapons, regardless of whether people use them that way. This argument feels to me like asking more public access toolboxes to be mapped in so assistants have a self defense option. That aside... from what you say, maglights seem to provide such a vision advantage to security over everyone else that I think having to ration what you have properly is a much better situation than being able to just print out infinite maglights or grab extras from storage. You start with a small number of them, and if your team can't work together to optimally use them, oh well. That sucks. There are plenty of other lighting options to pick from that still work. Security members aren't obligated to have the most powerful flashlight in the game just by being in security.
  13. What? Disagreeing with an idea being implemented is a passive aggressive insult now? I'm confused. Nothing of what I said anywhere was a directed insult at anyone, and I pretty clearly stated my opinions on why we shouldn't do this. I am not required to submit a statement on how to further improve a suggestion to make it of 'notable value' if I don't think it's a good idea in the first place. I think I went rather above and beyond giving a bland +1 or -1 comment. Nor at any point did I endorse 'Sterling Archer' characters to be acceptable in security. What I actually said was. This thread is not about people getting to pretend to be Sterling Archer at work. This is about people being allowed to wear what they like when they walk into work, before they are officially on duty. This is about the loadout screen, not clothing regulations. Further, the clothing portal you mention doesn't delete what you're wearing, it just puts (or is supposed to put, but sometimes is a little inconsistant) the nonregulation clothing in a box for you. but you still have it.
  14. You started with, "Eh. I don't really give a shit myself." So, no. I don't really think what you are saying matters. I much prefer the alternate suggestions from people with some interest in the topic. I'm sorry, I don't think I was clear in my earlier comments, and that's my bad. When I said 'I don't really give a shit', I was referring to the uniform regulations. However, I have an interest in this topic, and that is that I am interested in this not happening. I'm certain you would prefer that people only reply who agree with you, but that isn't how it works. The suggestion threads are not intended to be echo chambers. I'll say it again for emphasis. I do not think there is any reason to place start of round uniform load-out restrictions on anyone (beyond preventing them from getting uniform variants belonging to other departments, which already exist). Preventing people from coming to work not dressed in their work uniform does not stop them from being a shitty security officer, nor does it do anything to stop people from later choosing to wear inappropriate attire after they arrive. All it does is impose an artificial limitation on character creation in an attempt to fulfill a complaint you have (valid or not regardless here) about people's IC behavior. Problems involving not following uniform regulations belong in character, not in the character design or loadout section. People have the right to choose to come to work wearing a hot pink jumpsuit or wedding dress to be laughed at over, then be punished for it if they don't change before starting their security duties. Nanotrasen does not restrict your off-work activities or clothing choices.
  15. It's also a game where people come to have fun. What you are suggesting here is enforcing your standards on someone else forcibly, OOC. You can't apply this viewpoint out of character to game mechanics. My idea of a 'professional corporate environment' is clearly different from yours. Does that mean what I think doesn't matter, and I should just conform to the way you feel things should be? If you want to suggest policy changes, you're free to, but that's still an IC thing, not revising loadout permissions. Like Conspir said, it's perfectly logical to bring clothes to work and change if you need/want to.
  16. Most of the magic words are stupid puns or memes of some kind. I approve of anything that gives more variety and originality to wizards.
  17. Eh. I don't really give a shit that much myself. As long as they're wearing basic uniform things like a security hat, security belt, badge, HUDglasses, something that identifies them as a security member, I don't think it's that much of a big deal. People are capable of making rational observations based on points of visual information without needing the entirety of a department to dress in a strict uniform. There's already like, what. Two? (Three? More?) different 'security uniforms', more if you include the cadet and warden and commander variants, and not all of them look that much alike, other than 'there's some blue on them.' I would probably take umbridge if one of my officers ran around in a hot pink uniform or something directly unprofessional, like a wedding dress, but frankly, other than that, I don't see what the reason is to be so uptight and demand a strict dress code for security. Deal with it IC, not in the loadout mechanics. If you want to enforce something that strict, play the Security Commander. I can assure you when I do, I don't hassle people about not wearing one of the designated uniforms unless they're being ridiculous, and I certainly wouldn't appreciate someone else's OOC viewpoints on workplace attire being forced on me and my staff.
  18. What... reasons? This seems to mostly be people having ideas on how to work this, not saying we shouldn't do it. I don't understand what 'stated reason' you're offering for dismissing this.
  19. This thread has kind of gone in a dumb direction (and I kind of feel like suggesting we add a honking clown in is derailing it, too), but I'm not sure there's a whole lot of merit in the original idea anyway. I don't think anything is added to the game by having a mindless 'invulnerable' mob spout greetings at you in a place where you only spawn for the purpose of getting dressed and going to the station. The entire Odin section is nothing but filler time anyway, to give some sort of plausible reason why you got to the station other than just appearing on the arrivals shuttle. I've explored the starting area of the Odin exactly once, and then I just moved on auto-pilot to the shuttle every time afterwards. You add this mob, and people will pay attention to it once or twice, then completely ignore its existence as part of the scenery.
  20. Meanwhile at NT: "Sir, we're losing thousands a day on mining accidents. We should supply them with cheap magboots." "No! That expense is irrelevant to us, it's more important that we create an atmosphere or artificial difficulty and danger for our workers than to save the company money!"
  21. I'm going to bump this thread, as a reminder, due to having a recent round where no less than three people I dominated had the same issue, of reflexively closing the popup window then trying to figure out what I dominated them for after. Or just not reading it at all and requiring me to ahelp to prod them.
  22. I don't entirely understand this stubbornness the dev/staff team has about not implementing 'band aid' fixes to problems in the game. This mindset that things should just be left to fester and make the game unplayable until a member of the dev team gets around to fix it properly does not feel conductive to player retention or enjoyment. Last I heard, no one was even currently working on fixing 'space wind'. Has that changed? Is someone currently working on it? Is there an ETA on the fix? Because if the answer to all of those questions is 'no', then why the insistence on telling everyone to just wait? Moving around on the asteroid right now without magboots is a nightmare. It doesn't just affect miners and xenoarch, it also affects certain antags, especially raiders, who are sharply limited now in what they can use in their already limited equipment because if it doesn't have magboots, they basically get to eat shit the moment they step out of their shuttle. Just give people the dang magboots until it's fixed. You can take them away if you want when the problem is fixed. It should be more important that you keep gameplay fun and engaging than preserve the integrity of your dev team's bug-fix standards, or whatever this is going on here.
  23. Currently, there's a glaring hole in what malf AI can access (well, several, but I'm only addressing one today), in that they are unable to interact with either ATMs or the financial account computer in the HoP office. In the case of both of these, I'm pretty sure the only or main reason for this is no one has bothered to code in extra interactions for them. The ATMs just send you a message about AI not being issued payment under current laws, and the financial account computer is hard coded to not function unless a valid ID is physically placed in it. I don't particularly see a reason why an AI who is in the process of electronically taking over the entire station would politely keep it's digital fingers off of all that, or why they would mysteriously be so completely more advanced in security systems that they surpass even the station self destruct, which the malf AI can also access eventually. Even aside from the aspect of being able to fuck with people's money and give them a reason to be genuinely upset, the station accounts being an untouchable area negates the ability for AI to perform tricks like deleting someone's records to insist they are not crew. Because you can't do anything to their bank account, the HoP just has to walk a couple steps over to the other computer and check if they have a bank account, and now they are potentially suspicious of the AI. A few ideas for things an AI could do aside from basic functions players could do: -Rename or remove financial accounts -Create new financial accounts -Possibly transfer from one account to another? -Lock up ATMS -Make ATMs dispense credits in one of three ways: spitting out a specific amount of credit bills to the tile the ATM is on, launching a wad of them at someone nearby, or spraying money all over the place like it's some kind of game show. (DISPENSING WITHDRAWAL INCENTIVE. *money flying everywhere* "Hey guys, let's leave the AI alone.") I think it would be reasonable to have to hack the individual ATMS or accounts computers before you can use them, but it should be possible.
  24. In theory, you're correct. In practice, nearly everyone just knows the name of everyone else whom they can see the names of on their screen, because few people can be bothered to feign ignorance. I also thought nymphs get to name themselves. I swear I've seen them scurrying around with Diona style names.
  25. That's kind of weird, because in your original post you make no mention of anything that indicates you were the one playing the vampire, with such things as -players don't enjoy being forced into enthrallment (this is normally a complaint that victims make) -All a vampire has to do to absolutely take over a station is drink enough blood packs from medical and maybe drain one person before they can just enslave person after person (I just discussed why that is not the case. One person is simply not sufficient to unlock enthrallment, and blood packs only add to your usable blood, not your blood total for unlocking new abilities) -combination of suggestion and enthrall basically means any vampire who can get close enough to a captain or HoS has control over the entire station. (Except that dominate doesn't work on people with loyalty implants unless you've gained over 600 total blood and unlocked your full power. You cannot dominate the chaplain either until that time. Unless it does and this is a bug that needs to be fixed?) I'm probably sounding like I'm wearing my 'condescending dickhat' again, but I don't really understand how you managed to 'steamroll the entire station' and somehow completely miss all the finer details of your own mechanics in the process. Unless the players were just really incompetent or let you win? That does not sound like it's a good standpoint from which to suggest changes either way.
