1. Actually, Skrell using cloning en masse would be pretty interesting.
2. I'm trying to think through why a small chip can withstand Space Satan. It's not working.
3. wew DatBerry Mofo1995 "How do you plan to roleplay this? I this is the model answer that a lot of people give but will it end up just "blue human with tentacle head who talks really short"?" I like to try to sound as emotionally flat as possible, while being flowery and extremely motivated in Skrellian. Pretty much no matter what emotion I have no matter how severe with someone, I emote staring at them with gaping black eyes (irritation i just flare my gills or run my hands over my noseslits wearily). "can you expand on this more? at the time of glorsh and now, how does their fear differ?" I imagine most Skrell during Glorsh just had a silent boiling rage about it, or an immense panic. It's more of a submissive fear really, more of a 'what can we do to try to get mercy?' "How did she feel about it during the time of glorsh and afterwards? She doesn't seem to resent her way of life." She hated it. She didn't, and doesn't, like what she had to do to her own kind in order to please robots. But during that time, she had no choice. "Was there a catalyst for this, some buildup or just spur of the moment?" More of a 'fuck it, this is our only choice.' "WHO ARE THOSE???" Other family members close to her. "how will she be able to hustle crew of humans and other xenos with a poker face stuck on them? showing fake emotions is a very important part of any scam." Great question. One thing that comes to mind is that humans would probably be more likely to trust a Skrell, as they're more intelligent. We'll see. "What did Kresp'Yeeblo think the first time she heard music? How does she feel about humans and the sensation of living in human space?" I'm sure she's heard music before, though not of the human variety. The first real human song she ever heard was an older j-pop track in a shopping center on Biesel. That's pretty much the bulk of what she listens to these days. She thinks humans are very strange, very loud both vocally and physically (compared to the skrell, whom are likely more conservative in body language.) She doesn't really think much of them, secretly finding them pretty ugly (I mean, come now) and mentally dull. However, their culture is pretty admirable with how artistic they are, and it's pretty interesting how close they are to each other. "When she wasn't helping her family do their "business" in her youth and young adulthood, what did she do in her free time? Did she have any friends?" She had a small group of pals who were taken in by her family (they also helped around, they had to) as their parents weren't around one way or another. It was pretty much just hanging out at home, making comics about four self-inserts meeting a race of aliens (slime-men. yes, she will be very gleeful to meet a promethean) that come to defeat the robot menace. "Did her parents come with her to the Republic of Biesel? Are they alive?" They're likely not alive any longer, considering the timeframe, but they did come with. "Does she sometimes wish she could have hatchlings?" Absolutely, she always thought of it as a beautiful thing. Being that she cannot get treatment from the Federation, she is unable to at this time. Plus, she's never found the right person. "When she came into human space, did she immerse herself in literature on human economic thought to step up her game?" "What's her favorite food?" Risotto. Although it's a rare treat, she's an absolute slut for amanita pie/jelly.
4. The sequence of events is pretty much: Sell food and locally-made medicine to Skrell. Skrell give us money. We give a hefty cut to Glorsh-Omega's pockets, Glorsh-Omega allows us to continue living uninterrupted and unharmed. I'm unsure exactly why Glorsh would need this money, but I'm sure it needed to be an economic power as well. NT would only know from Kresp that they were merchants during the Era, they took careful measures (sob stories, lies) to only let NT know as much as they needed to know. The hope is that eventually they'd be forgotten.
5. She likes comic books and manga, more adventurous things. She doesn't seriously like novels or anything like that.
6. I didn't have a whole lot of room in the OP to talk about it, but I wouldn't really categorize Kresp as cowardly or fearful. She's much more likely to get someone else to do something for her, yes, because she's an incredibly manipulative person. They're extremely bitter about synthetics, and even more spiteful about their involvement with Glorsh-Omega. Though she cares little for humans or other species, she does feel a genuine desire inside to re-connect with Skrell, despite her self-doubt and somewhat self-dislike telling her it'll never happen. She's tired of being treated like a pariah. The point of staying in hiding (bouncing around Skrellian worlds, changing identities, etc), was to evade those they personally wronged during the Era. Even if it wasn't outright being persecuted, being treated like a pariah everywhere you go is 100% likely to eventually take a severe toll on your quality of living. And the point of Kresp being a manipulative person was because that was what she had to become when she was young to survive. She doesn't have skill in much else besides selling overpriced supplies and making sure the people making them are doing their jobs. She'd likely run Cargo very tightly, while ensuring to gain easy report with any HoP she ever saw in order to remain undisturbed. Off-white is a nice color, leave me alone.
7. BYOND Key: ParadoxSpace Character Names: https://i.imgur.com/7RuD8Wm.png (Ash-Gulai is a leftover Cocksalami slot) Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Likely some sort of off-white, #f0efe6 or even lighter. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Now that I've actually started looking deeper into Skrell lore, I've found it quite interesting. Almost a sort of fallen empire trope. I'll not dance around the issue and say that I'm not also interested because of recent codework I've contributed. This has inspired a character concept for me, and I'm excited for the prospect to play it out. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell are a prideful, logical, yet very emotional species. Although they cannot translate their own feelings into our language all that well at all, or utilize things like body language that we do ever day, Nral'Malic can display emotions we don't even have in our languages. They can live to quite venerable ages, and carry a lot of knowledge with them. They have no real concept of gender roles, and may find them incredibly confusing in our culture. Character Name: Kresp'Yeeblo Pras-Tiapt Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Kresp Pras was born in the middle of the Glorsh regime, in the year 2124. They did not grow up with a strong hatred of the machine, rather an intense, deep-set fear of what it could do. She was taught at a very young age that one must do whatever they can for Glorsh, or they will be seen as wasting space. To this extent, their family were heavily in the business of swindling other Skrell with overpriced 'supplies' in their little corner of Federation space. Fortunately for some, Glorsh-Omega was defeated. Almost vanished. Unfortunately, their family was, of course, found out by those they ripped off. Many years of hiding and running were on their plate, until the mid 2400s. Kresp made the bold move to abandon the Federation entirely, to live amongst the humans. Some came with her, some attempted to beg the Federation for their lives. Being that moving cargo, getting money, and manipulating the common man with a silver tongue was all she truly knew, she looked into NanoTrasen. Though she still had much of a future infront of her, Glorsh-Omega had taken her past. What do you like about this character? I like the idea of being a morally questionable Skrell that did dubious things for their greatest villain just to survive. I want to experience the conflict between myself, other Skrell, and the IPC's she would distrust. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Honestly about a seven, sometimes I slip up.
8. This was modified, sterilized K'ois, suitable for phoron production. And 'a half bottle of peridaxon' is outright false, there was a full bottle and a half bottle because I had made 90 units. Otherwise, there were plenty chems in the fridge at the end of the day.
9. You're equating the creation of chemicals to murder. gg.
10. Hi, I'm ParadoxSpace. You may know me as the actor of Eri Szikki (The male Unathi), aka the Fullscale Alchemist, aka the Shark Fighter, in our latest movie Aurorastation II: The Quest For The Philosopher's Stone. Let me tear your post apart quote by quote for your viewing pleasure. I wasn't dressed as a priest, I was dressed in standard tzirzi robes, which is what most Unathi wear. It's functionally the same as a labcoat. ResearchMate had worn the chaplain robes, as they grabbed those while retrieving holy water (what we believe to be an important ingredient.) Also functionally the same as a labcoat. We had received zero complaints from any crewmembers (the RD specifically) about this, only from the AI. It'd be nice if there was any sort of logs as to 'overtly hostile'. We were only any 'hostile' to the intruding computer. We like to refer to these chemicals, and the process of making them, as alchemy, for Azoth, the Elixir of Life, and the Philosopher's Stone are real-life alchemical concepts. When we said 'ancient texts' we mean ancient texts. Irl, we actually pored through ancient alchemical descriptions of Azoth, and the Philosopher's Stone, for clues as to what they could be made of. We showed one product, liquid light, to our Research Director, in order to prove that we weren't talking out of our asses that there were still undiscovered chemicals out there. You made the choice to be a mechanical skeptic. Yes, I did multitool the focus wire on your cameras. This was onefold because you were threatening to shut down our lab because of your irrational behavior towards our research, twofold because I did not want you repeating the recipes for our alchemy on every frequency you could find. Threefold because I had already told you to vacate our lab's hologram, and you had ignored your laws and chose not to. We explained ourselves very much, that we were discovering new alchemical goods. We did not claim we held a monopoly on anything, that was a lie you fabricated. We would indeed share the product with Dawnguard, but he must find the recipes himself. He didn't even ask for recipes, he asked for 'notes.' We then gave him a hint as to what bottled light could be made of. I actually don't have any involvement in this, but you don't need to pray to something written in the lore to pray to that thing. C'mon man. You're not even trying. This was an accident literally anyone could make (we accidentally splashed a beaker of phoron), and an accident we cleaned up very well. I was a male unathi, for the reference. And yes, we decided not to bother Security and take up their time, so we went fishing ourselves. No injuries were withstood to anyone uninvolved. You certainly wouldn't have shut the shield down, so we did it ourselves, for the couple seconds it took. Yeah, this was my fault. I /really/ was jonesing to get our carpotoxin back to the lab. Okay? This statement holds very little weight on its' own. No, we were just singleminded enough to ask once for carpotoxin, and ask for carp corpses to be brought into the lab after Security fought them. Okay, bring him in here. Let's get his word, instead of you speaking for him. We didn't ignore regulations, we ignored you. You're not above us. Patently untrue. We suffered no losses near our lab. In total, I find this OP full of more holes than a strainer.
11. Alcoholic/butanolic drinks should work for it.
12. Reporting Personnel: Karimi Abdel Nour Al-Shennawi Rank of Reporting Personnel: Cargo Technician Game ID: bTM-dhjc Personnel Involved: (Name, Rank: Offender/Witness/Other (Ckey)) - Elyiana Haverfort-Marx, Roboticist - Offender (Unknown) - Zuhzir Mansurhani, Cargo Technician - Witness (NursieKitty) - Suvek Tokash, Warden - Offender Time of Incident: 4/8/2560 Real time: Around 5:00 MST, 4/8/2018 Location of Incident: Holodeck Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property []Neglect of Duty []Harassment [x]Assault [x]Misconduct []Other _____ Overview of the Incident: Elyiana Haverfort-Marx, a human filled to their hairline with intolerable amounts of racism, had been provoking this one, and his friend Zuhzir the entire shift, as well as every other Tajaran. They did this initially via common radio, but it had soon escalated to assault. The first incident was her shooting this one's friend Zuhzir with a shotgun in the bar, after we were embezzled by a bartender. The second assault, which is the meat of this complaint, took place in the holodeck. A recruitment drive for the New Kingdom of Adhomai was occurring, and it had seemed that the Roboticist displayed a keen interest in the group. They called this one a communist many times, and a catbeast even more. They had spat thrice in this one's eyes. The third time, this one was filled with equal amounts of rage, and took a screwdriver to her eyes. A nearby Vaurca officer, this one cannot remember their name, stunned this one with a baton. While they were downed, Elyiana stomped violently on their head. This one was quickly arrested, and taken to the brig, which was oversaw by warden Tokash. There, this one was arrested for 'attempted murder', despite this lacking any malicious forethought. It was a passion crime, as this one understands. The warden eventually moved them to the shuttle dock, after giving this one a HuT sentence, but managed to do so while wearing stolen contraband, a pair of force gloves. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: We attempted to plea to captain Paul Jonson, but we were deflected. Actions taken: The HoS told them off, they guess. That is really all.
13. Janitalia, right now, is under rule of Engineering, for dubious reasons. These reasons are often 'minor maintenance. Taking care of maintenance.' and such. I do not believe the Janitor fit. However, in the ancient Voxane scrolls, I have uncovered a role which would be more suited to it. Enter the Mechanic, a hybrid Science-Engineering role. http://ss13.moe/wiki/index.php/Mechanic http://ss13.moe/wiki/index.php/Guide_to_Mechanic The Mechanic's job is fixing, replacing, and upgrading all the useless bits and bobs around the station, as well as replacing things that people have lost. They are able to scan things with a handheld device, upload them to a machine in their mancave, and reproduce them, either via a modified protolathe, or through flatpacks. Flatpacks are essentially IKEA sets, you open them and then assemble things like jukeboxes, chem machines, and more using various parts. Often they are used to get extra copies of valuable things, which are quite important. In exchange for the Mechanic, the Janitor will be brought back to service. Whether he keeps his backpack sprayer reserve of Tajaran deterrent and his Pussy Wagon are up to discussion.
14. We did this on Baystation12, for two weeks. The only downside was a lack of door access. Otherwise, antaggery went much smoother without a gangster computer God to bolt people down at the slightest provocation. I also advocate for the removal of combat borgs.
15. I officially self-nominate for Community Manager, and accept my self nomination.
16. The same can be said about Lilly, their other character.
17. I'd rather have skills have mechanics behind them than this.
18. Yes, please let us be able to just print the damn things or not include them in designs.
19. I'd tend to agree with Coalf, the requirements are a bit out there.
20. Our irl ability to clone animals is heavily unrefined and limited in number. To NT partnering with ZH and Necropolis, mostly because they're wholly irrelevant and including them in lore is a worthwhile activity.
21. Ornias completely grasps the point of what I was getting at.
22. Type (Species/Company/History/Other): Clone Relevant Dates: 3/15/2460 Basic Description: NanoTrasen clones CCIAC Penny, to test a new animal cloning technique. Long Description: Exciting news today as NanoTrasen, in partnership with scientists from Necropolis Industries and Zeng-Hu, unveils a clone of a beloved NanoTrasen mascot, Penny, utilizing a revolutionary new technique. The feat is a first for felines, and despite limitations, it could lead to affordable pet options for Tau Ceti citizens. Previous attempts to clone felines, although successful, were a time-consuming process, and often led to genetic issues requiring secondary treatment. "Penny II is healthy," Zeng-Hu scientist Josiah Curry answered at a press release yesterday, "Although her personality is different than her host. Whereas Penny I is very playful, her clone is somewhat shy and timid. We're sure it's nothing bad." We've been informed that the process utilized a donor egg from the original cat, and split it into identical copies. "We have plans for Penny III," Curry elaborated, "Although it's mostly to see if we can clone her." The team emphasized their group was following intergalactic guidelines for the treatment of the animals, and that they "receive adequate headscratches."
