Mofo's Head Whitelist Application V1
Mofo1995 replied to Mofo1995's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
All righty, time to introduce a section on personal life since I tried to focus on professional life! That is, after a day to recuperate my writing abilities. -
I love them. The players who are currently whitelisted to play Vaurca have been doing a fantastic job, and I had the fortune of having a lab assistant who was willing to give me an in-depth description of his species and their societal structures and nomenclature, which helps me impress the ladies when I'm like: Oh this is so and so of X hive, he's an (un)bound warrior/worker/(lol no breeders on station) type.
-
BYOND key: Mofo1995 Character names: Isiah Fraser, Shkor-Dyet Dom'Pesh (Skoro was renamed to this due to being OOCly called "The Scatman") How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since September 2015 Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I've been Interim Research Director twice thrice now, and I thought that it was nothing short of an exceptional experience. I loved it, and everything went pretty well. I'm pretty well-versed in the various aspects of the science department, So, I thought I'd see if I could do it on a more regular basis if that's all right with my peers. Why did you come to Aurora?: It had more people than Aphellion project, and Aphellion project shutdown. In general there was a more stable and active community here as well, and the station was and is more lively. Not to mention the friendly people and the fun forums. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Как точно! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: As Chaznoodles said the other day, and it really resonated with me, roleplaying is about saying yes. It's about setting out and adventuring into things you would never normally do either because you can't or you won't, and then pretending to do them. Like pretending to be an alien, or a terrorist, or maybe an adventurer, or possibly a crusader. It's you and a bunch of buddies or even strangers getting together and agreeing to pretend to work on a space station together, and sharing in struggles and triumphs with each other, all in the end to have fun. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Heads of Staff keep order, they are the organizing and unifying force which takes a department, and brings all the sometimes disparate elements together. They're an authority that people can look up to for guidance, for lessons, for authorization, and even sometimes for protection. Sometimes a head of staff is just another boss, but the best ones are leaders who take the front and direct their department's efforts to a common goal. For instance, the Head of Security is interested in keeping the station safe, and Research Director is interested in projects and experiments, the CMO organizes medical treatment, etc. That is to say, however, that Head of Staff should NOT do the jobs of their workers, but rather should organize and supervise their workers in a way that makes them feel stable and cared for. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players to other players is to contribute to the learning of new people in their department, to contribute to the RP by being representatives of the overarching authority that is the NanoTransen SOP, and to maintain a healthy balance between fun and order. The way in which I would strive to uphold this is to try and familiarize my workers with the regulations in a more friendly way, and to try to keep my workplace airtight against extradepartmental threats by maintaining good paperwork practices. Furthermore, I'll make a concerted effort to devise projects for the department I work for to try and shake up their shifts and bring everyone together into a common effort in more tangible ways. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Shkor-Dyet Dom'Pesh (formerly Skoro'Dyetee Piedyom'Peet) Character age: 85 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): So, much of his general story can be found here in my application for the character, this is the tl;dr so ignore the other link to Character Stories unless you want to hear an in-depth story of Shkor's life. Source of backstory, as its a copy paste: http://www.aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=4832 Shkor was hatched on Jargon V to a family of space ship engineers for the Jargon Navy. His early life was fraught with rigorous schooling as he had to work very hard in order to meet his parents' expectations, as he comes from a long line of military engineers. So, when he was fully grown up, he made the most logical job choice for his family line and went to study the sciences. He got his education on his home world of Jargon V, and was generally shunned form his family for not devoting his life to the military. He did a study abroad program on Mars, and there he befriended some human university students and became immersed and learned in human culture. This is where Shkor learned that all though Skrell were superior in every way, he awfully liked humans, and so he kept his beady black eyes peeled for job openings in human space. In the meantime, he went back to Aliose and worked in labs with research centered around the military, partly in an attempt to parley and compromise with his estranged family who were now willing to at least let him come back to holiday dinners. When he heard about a job opening for research aboard the NSS Aurora, he signed up, once again estranging himself from his family for going to work with humans instead of staying on Aliose. He even decided to get citizenship for the Republic of Biesel and to live there with the exception of those awkward holiday dinners. A much more detailed and serious biographical story of Shkor's professional life can be found in the link below, divided up into three major sections, if you're a masochist for walls of text. http://www.aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=4876 What do you like about this character?: So, I could be wildly wrong about this, but I like how he feels really believable and down to earth to me. I feel like everyone one of his abilities and skills is carefully accounted for by years of hardwork and experience, and that his love for science is fantastic. I like how he curses at his slimes when he works in xenobiology, or shoots the shit with his human coworkers, and I like to think that he has a good sense of humor and works well with others, based on interactions I've had around the station. What do you dislike about this character?: The three year break at Aliose Biomedical. If the maximum age for characters on the server wasn't 85, I'd raise it by at least five years and change it to a seven year break to better justify his work experience with slimes. Also, racism to Unathi. Or rather, possibly not implementing it well enough. I have multiple capable Unathi coworkers, and I find it hard to roleplay secretly distrusting them when they're capable and friendly. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I've been Interim Research Director once twice with this character, and the entire experience was nice and smooth. All areas of the department progressed with their jobs very nicely, and I feel that I got along with my workers swimmingly. Qualification for such a position isn't just limited to knowledge of how to do the jobs but also ones ability to get along well with their coworkers and to work together as a team. I believe he meets both of the criteria quite well. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: On my last whitelist app I put 7/10, and I think I'm going to keep it there for the same reasons, but I've been getting a lot better at adding flavor through emoting. Extra notes: The backstory is extremely long, I apologize, I really love writing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6oXW_YiV6g

So I was writing a head of staff whitelist app, and in the backstory section I ended up writing a massive wall of text. I decided that no one reviewing a whitelist app wants to read an essay's worth of material, and so I decided to plop it down here in the character stories subforum. Have I screwed up and stepped on the toes of anything lore related? Let me know! Does my character suck? You can let me know if you really want to. I for one, think he's one sweet squid-man. PRE-FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH HUMANS: POST FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH HUMANS: RETURN TO HUMAN SPACE: THE NSS AURORA ALSO: Is your character old and works in science as either a roboticist or scientist and is either Human or Skrell? Why not collaborate on a common backstory! Looking for humans who would've been active in either of these two fields in the years 2416 - > 2432, and Skrell for any years before or after that gap. That way when we're both on the station, we can be like old pals and talk about things that never happened like as if they were good old times.

Hey! Just thought I'd start a thread where we could share our childhood heartfelt stories. Feel free to share below!
-
You did say it though... You absolutely freaked us all out by saying it. But it's not relevant to the complaint at hand. And I'm not denying you the right to deny us a recharge in anyway, and don't think it warrants any IC or OOC action at all. And after discussing on public comms, you didn't take any action against us, I didn't claim you did in any way shape or form, merely fear that you would which is no basis to an OOC complaint. And again, on my end of things, It was purely an IC issue rather than OOC. I can't vouch for other parts. So, I'm going to stop posting since only logs can settle a back and forth, and I've said everything I could say.
-
Why do you keep saying a lab assistant was leading R&D? Iyuoro, scientist, was leading R&D. He's the one that hit the print button on both my freeze rays. The whole exchange with science did start with you threatening massive repercussions for doing weapons research without your express permission. You said it yourself: "I didn't give you permission to do that!" And you handled the science team very aggressively saying that it was in the regulations that we needed head supervision and claiming there was a form for it in the database. We were all terrified you were going to send security in to beat us up given the severity of your response, and we traveled in one big group at first for safety in numbers. Phoebe may have been catty with you but we were not aggressive to you, I don't think your treatment of us on comms was warranted by us desperately trying to defend ourselves from being brigged over a freeze Ray. BUT aside from your failure to know the regs, which happens sometimes, its all right, I think the freeze Ray debacle was primarily an IC issue rather than OOC, with the exception of the debateable loyalty implant angle.

LordRaven001's Dionaea Application
Mofo1995 replied to LordRaven001's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
So, I'll give this a resounding +1 due to the roleplay I've had today with LordRaven001's Arthur Whitemane. Both ICly and OOCly it was a pleasure to play with LordRaven, and to be completely honest, he sincerely struck me as a diona type of guy. The kindness scales were off the charts, and I think he would be a great addition. But, there are some issues with the back story that should probably be fixed. Like Skrell executing prisoners of war, or a diona which cannot feel pain being tortured. Though your answer to the torture part makes me wonder... Anyways, I think the whole muching bodies thing could use tweaking, as well as being sent to Aurora as a result, since it's well known and documented that Diona like to suck up that sweet sweet knowledge. But otherwise, that's between you and lore devs. Tl;Dr: +1 P.S. don't be shy! Advertise! -
Bibiex's head of staff application.
Mofo1995 replied to Bibiex's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1 There is one reason in particular which really makes Bibiex stand out to me in the ways of responsibility, and it is that when Shkor was was an Interim Research Director, Rander SIGNED GENETICS PAPERWORK! If this isn't a testament to the character's ability to be responsible, I don't know what is. But, let's out aside what people should be doing in their every day jobs and discuss the character herself and how she's roleplayed. Bibiex does a good job in surgery, and the fact that they cannot speak English completely evaded my attention during roleplay. Francisca Rander is nice, capable, and I think would be a good head of staff. But, other medical people should chime in. What's your native tongue? -
It took two weeks, but finally I broke free form five second intervals! One geosurvey ship was destroyed and the other damaged. Two in-game weeks after the debacle, Battle Group Alpha came in and brought down a hail of nuclear missiles on some enemy ships. http://puu.sh/mqeQy/ed470a8ad7.png' alt='SIZE>'> They were both completely destroyed. There are some more enemy ships which fire small volleys of missiles (which travel at 25,000 km/s!) and then keep away from me by travelling 8,000 km/s. Essentially, speeds which are well beyond my capabilities. Still, their missiles were super easy to point defense away, but the ships themselves fail to even show up on my list of targets for my firing computers. Any advice on the cause of this? I need to shoot back somehow, even if they can never hope to hit me.

This is major control to ground Tom, hatch your Sawyer's lock and on your helmet put.
-
I always feel like there aren't enough Skrell, and if I remember Skull posted some stats on whitelists and Skrell was one of the most underrated. Glad I could contribute to your whitelist-controlling enjoyment!

I did like the new page! It had more flavor to it, I think. Yes this Skrell is a weeb for humans much as some Japenese people are weebs for Germans (parallel to Axis powers being intentional) Thanks for the quick response!

BYOND Key: Mofo1995 Character Names: Isiah Fraser Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Pale Green Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Да. Кто не прочитал? Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: There are not nearly enough skrell on this advanced research station when Skrell are so advanced and have such a powerful empire. I mean sure, they have their own research station's (like, as you'll see, on my character's homeplanet Jargon V) but I just feel like there aren't enough given their alliance with mankind. Reasons to want to play the Skrell don't stop there though! As I was saying they have one of the most (if not the most) technologically advanced empire in the galaxy, and they're like the Eldar in that their really quite ancient compared to the other races around them. But, let's limit the cross universe references and identify the factors which cause them to be wildly fascinating like their military might, their amphibious nature, their culture and their wonderful language. Everything about the Jargon empire makes me want to sign right up. But, we're on Aurora, so this is as close as I'll get. Did I also mention I love their black beady eyes and head tentacles? Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell live far longer than humans, they're shorter, they breathe underwater, the females hide eggs under their tentacles, they warble, and they have serious military might. A skrell might be feel superior, and can live over 400 years thanks to their Ethnic superiority ingenuity. They can't wear Gabe Newell's over priced TF2 hats, and need special helmets to go EVA, but according to the wiki, speak like Mordin Solis (in grammatical structure, if not speed.) Character Name: Skoro'Dyetee Piedyom'Peet Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Skoro was hatched on Jargon V to a family of space ship engineers for the Jargon Navy. This is where Skoro learned that all though Skrell were superior in every way, he awfully liked humans, and so he kept his beady black eyes peeled for job openings in human space. What do you like about this character? It's hard to say what I like about him because I haven't played him yet, but I'm hoping to use him as a vessel to work in multiple fields in the science department, using the age and intelligence of the Skrell as a justification to do so. But outside of the meta-reasons why I like this character, I like him because he's a human sympathizing Skrell. The Skrell part of why I like him is obvious since I'm applying to be Skrell, but on the whole he's going to be quite friendly to humans, and possibly racist to Unathi since they're the rising empire threatening Skrell-Human domination. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7/10, I live to arpee, but I typo somewhat frequently and I could really do with learning how to emote better beyond the common * emotes. I can't pull off accents very well either, which made being a changeling very difficult once when I tried to take over an Irish Bartender's life. But I really think that my biggest crutch in roleplay is starting as a new character, it usually takes me some time to really settle into and meet my character just as everyone else is meeting them. I also think that I have a hard time playing as characters who are mean, I really do gravitate towards friendlier characters, but I think that an element of xenoracism will really help me out on this part, as well as drive to do a good job within his department and be angry at inefficient workers. Notes: I'm okay with changing anything that needs to be changed (I'm looking at you, character name), and I don't believe I've ever seen a green skrell before... but there's a picture of one on the wiki!
-
This is his server now. We're just playing on it.
-
Aaaaand it just went from good-humored to pointing fingers. You might or might have not noticed, but I don't even play your game anymore So You know You can take that finger and shove it up your bum Well, I'm on my phone, so it's probably going to be short. I think, you weren't directing your post/replying to anyone specific, but rather writing to the majority of players. I did likewise, considering that I probably weren't even playing at the same time as you and other veterans/long-time players were. I was just giving an advice to everyone reading/simply stating my opinion. So, you are not alone here, shoving fingers up my anything will not be necessary. Also English is quite stupid, in my language, there is a word "you", referring to one, second person (talking directly/in-person to a "he/she"). There is also a separate word for "you", used to talk to a group of people (they). I don't speak Polish but I know the feeling with Russian. Ты а вы.

About the recent influx of hatsune m-m-miko ripoffs
Mofo1995 replied to a topic in Off Topic Discussion
Is it confirmed? Hatsune best girl? -
Everyone's leaving, oh god!
-
Well, I'm going to try to ignore the records and apply my appraisal of your character strictly through the context of my interactions with him. I've pretty much never had any interactions with Wardens, or indeed, security beyond trying to visit/petition for the release of Seon-rin. BUT seeing as though I work strictly in science, I have met with Adolph during his work as a roboticist. He's not the best roboticist I've ever worked with (that still goes to Faranight as Talia Gauss) but something seemed "off" about him, in a good way. All though my interactions with him were somewhat limited, my first impressions were that he seemed interesting and far from bland. Eccentric really does describe him, but I guess I missed out on the racial superiority part.
-
Thanks! I'll certainly try ciders, I imagine they taste great.
-
Seriously though, this suggestion is great. I mean say a security officer searches you on code blue, but all they find is your trusty rock. What are they supposed to say? Rocks are contraband? It's a strange off the wall concealed weapon that will, at the very least, make the game significantly more interesting OOCly.
-
I'll try this, all of it at some point.
