Right, so, I wasn't here for this, and I'll leave the ruling for the higher ups, but first off. This ruling is retarded, in many senses. No sane person should ever burst into a room containing a very possibly dangerous person so they can fix some shit, that is stupid, and utterly against the setting we're trying to impose here. The player should've been heavily reprimanded for awful roleplay from what I can see here. So this is possible punishment on the points of the player for doing this, and SoT for having failed to see this, though I'll make sure he's aware of this so he can post his own opinions on the matter.

[Denied]Shadow7889's IPC Application
Muncorn replied to Shadow7889's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Okay, I've read this, and whilst I wasn't planning on leaving a review, I noticed a fair few problems off of the bat. Okay, so first off. The technology for AI's was not given to humans by the Skrell. They independently made intelligent robotic beings by their own separate means. Even if the humans had not discovered proper AI (which, considering we're already at a good point, in 500 years we'd be doing considerably better) why would the Skrell share the information that nearly led to their species demise? Second, a intelligence designed to remotely operate a essentially a glorified turret would be very simple, heck I could rig that up myself with a little bit of code and a database of shit not to shoot, it's not hard. Even /if/ you had a proper intelligence for it, it would never be repurposed into a cyborg in any sense similar to it's original form. At the most it'd be wiped and reprogrammed, so it would have no memory or even knowledge of previous use. Last, why would NanoTrasen, notably one of the most narcissistic, greedy and clingy companies in all of the galaxy let a apparently excellent AI just go free, simply because it's done a lot. They're gonna work that things posibrain until it's a mess of burnt out pathways, trust me on that one. Work on these, you seem to be overestimating peoples compassion towards machines. Nobody cares about them, nobody ever will. Remember that when taking into consideration on what happens to them, and how they end up. If you want an example of a simple line-model IPC backstory, here's the one I used for my IPC app: -
[REDESIGNED]A Note on Languages
Muncorn replied to Muncorn's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
Okay, eh. Lemme try to respond on as many as I can. Currently, still working on these, trying to perfect stuff. I'll try to do things when I get inspiration, so for now I'll simply respond rather than write more language stuff. TCB -First off, the conversion. As stated, it's not a complete conversion from Common to Basic, it's partial. Over the course of 30-40 years it was integrated by the government through schooling and some media outlets. My vision is that they wanted to become the hub of interspecies trade and such, so tried to have all citizens speak TCB to make it more inviting then, say, Mars, where everybody speaks Common and has TCB as possibly a secondary language. Admittedly, I'm not too sure how Tau Ceti's government runs, so eh. -The written language was a rough description, there's likely be what you mentioned, I'm just too lazy to get into specifics. -I explained how the word linkage worked for you, I'll give a quick run-down now. My initial description of an Isolating language structure was awful, so I'll remedy this and hopefully clear it up. What I meant was not that each word was not connected, but that the idea of morphemes (The smallest unit of a word) is very different. A word like 'Unbelievable' would be seaprated into three different words with the meanings of Believe, (being able to), and a negation of it, not necessarily in that order. This might be slightly off, as I'm no professional linguist, but it's a better explanation than what I had before. -I found out about the lips after I made all this, so yes, your idea sounds far better than mine. Additionally, the inclusion of the 'S' was purely since I'm going to get enough flak from this as it is already, if I get rid of the reason Unathi hiss, I'm gonna get lynched. Though, if possible, I would like this change so the hiss does not occur. -The sounds... I really don't know, to be honest. I'd think the sounds used would correlate with those inkeeping with earlier point on what parts of the mouth are used. -The last part of ingame usage is mainly for latter languages, rather than TCB. Such as Gutter, which has no written form, or, eh... There'll be more reasons, it's late, can't think. Sol Common -So, way I see it, there'll be local dialects and the overall Common language. There may be regional variance such as the slang often used in Elysius and Lowell, to the more Ethnic orientated slang in Terran settlements, but it wouldn't be massive enough to be non-understandable to any other, normally. -So, mesh of languages has 2 reasons. One, as explained, it meshed the main three languages spoken across Mars at the time, as well as Earth (Though that was not noted at the time of creation) thus making it more appealing and possibly easier for people to learn it. Secondly, I want Jackboot to like this, and he likes this, so... -So, it's a habit of mine to refer to Oriental styled languages like Mandarin, japanese and korean as Calligraphic, and ones like English, Spanish and so on as Latin languages, due to the way the writing is done. So yes, a logogrammic system is what I meant for that. -And, yes. This is the problem I had when I had to mesh the languages together in a stupid way. I'll revise things, and in all likelihood just use an English and Portugese mesh and ignore Mandarin. Not sure yet though. -Yes, the slow speech. Being English myself, I'm used to hearing Portugese and Spanish, and even Mandarin and thinking "Fucking hell they're speaking fast" without realising I speak faster than them quite often. So, that is a mistake on my part. Best way to get abouts that is to not bring up the point at all, so I won't in future. -Actually, the ethnic twists would happen, since last I recall Mars wasn't the best at keeping a good control on it's populous. And yes, I know this counters the earlier point on the enforcement, I'll work on it. -Wording was bad on the ancient languages bit, and I do note that the languages would not be dead in the slightest. I'll try to go over all of this in my revision. I'll try to get some done tomorrow. I'll expect to get it all done by Wednesday unless I get a shitload done tomorrow. -
[NOTE] This application is out of date, two applications are in it's place at this current time: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=7514 & https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=8554 Before I get onto the grit of this, I want to say why I'm making this. For a good while, I've noticed something with how people roleplay languages, and it's not too surprising that this has happened, considering how the languages ingame work. People take them for granted. They presume all their characters can speak as many languages as given to a completely fluent level, and the only exceptions I'll ever see are ones of different races that only recently learned the language, and even that is rare. So, I want to change that. I'll attempt to break down each language into origin, structure (Written and Verbal), and usage in it's normal home and it's usage in other places. I've additionally included one in here which I made up for some of my own personal lore, which I might make a post on at a different time, but for the purposes of canonization I'll want that one ignored until further notice. So, lets get to it. And also, clarification here. Local Systems are were the language is widely spoken, such as Sol Common in Sol, TCB in Tau Ceti, etc. Language Name: Language Origin: Language Structure - Written: Language Structure - Verbal: Usage - Local Systems: Usage - Foreign Systems: Usage - Ingame: Ignore this, here for my copypasta for further stuff. --- Language Name: Tau Ceti Basic Language Origin: Tau Ceti Basic (TCB) was created specifically as an easy to speak, catch-all language for all species. It was designed by language experts after the discovery of Skrell in 2413, in an effort to create an easy modem of communication between the species. It was created with intention for all possible sentient lifeforms to be able to speak it to some degree, and as time went on this proved to work very well. There is the obvious difficulties, such as the Tajaran roll or the Unathi hiss, but it works well enough that no calls for changes have been made. Tau Ceti Basic was made the official language of Tau Ceti in 2421, soon after the discovery of Tajara. Whilst Sol Common is still widely spoken within Tau Ceti, it is no longer an official language. Language Structure - Written: TCB's written form is simplistic, reminiscent of phonetic writings. It uses a large alphabet with exact phonetic sounds, far different from traditional latin alphabets and vastly different to Sol Common's calligraphic form. Most of the characters are simple yet different, utmost effort put in place to stop any two characters being too alike. It's grammatical structure is reminiscent of an isolating language system, meaning each word functions separately and does not affect the meanings of subsequent or previous words. This was done to avoid confusion amongst the many new learners there would be, and for any species found that were possibly less intelligent than Humans or Skrell were. This proved very useful for the discovery of Unathi, for both the point previously stated and the fact it was fairly similar to the written structure of native Unathi languages. Language Structure - Verbal: When spoken it is fairly simple to understand, the speech tending to be quite fast in fluent speakers due to the slightly larger amount of separate words compared to other languages. However, the flow of words is very smooth, each sound tending to merge into the next in a seamless manner inkeeping with it's written style. It's sounds consist mainly of throat and lip sounds and only make use of the back of the tongue, a feature much enjoyed by Unathi. This eliminated the use of sounds like; L, C, D, G, and several others. The exception to this is the 'S' sound, which was kept for reasons none of the original linguists will state. More variations of the other sounds were used, and several never featured in Latin and Germanic languages were introduced as well. Usage - Local Systems: Being the official language in Tau Ceti and surrounding area, it is used in all official newspapers, news, television and the arts, and as such much of the population knows it very well. Sol Common is no longer taught within the public school system, though many private schools teach it, and many children still speak Sol Common in addition to TCB. However, the government tries their best to enforce it's use, some schools and universities even banning the use of Sol Common so as to make it more accommodating for alien species that may be there. Usage - Foreign Systems: The Sol Alliance makes a fair bit of use off of TCB, though makes a point to not let it be an official language. Many official news outlets and movies are shot in TCB, but any further than that only tends to happen in areas in the outer colonies or the frontier, where enforcement tends to be very lacking. Other than that, TCB is a staple across all other space. Skrellian education systems do not teach compulsory courses to students, though have options for it available from early on in the system. Usage - In Game: It's normal speech, really. The differences do not make any difference for us reading as we translate it so as to not need to learn a whole new language just to play the game. When reading TCB, make sure to note it's features of writing if that is what you intend to do, and similar case for writing. --- Language Name: Sol Common Language Origin: Upon the the mass settlement of Mars in the early years of Human exploration of space, massive colonies of different ethnic groups settled into massive cities covering large sprawls of Mars. For a while, there was little structure to these, but soon governmental systems popped up, and realised a large flaw. No two groups of people seemed to speak the same language. There was English, Mandarin, French, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, Portuguese, and so many more they tended to lose count. So a group of professional linguists met and devised a language by combining elements of multiple of the largest language bases; English, Mandarin and Portugese, and incorporated these into one language. The result was then enforced upon education systems and media outlets, and was fully integrated by at the least 2200, with the only remnants being spoken in broken dialects on Earth or offshoots using older forms, such as Elysius Gutteral. Language Structure - Written: Sol Common follows a rather weird setup, in comparison to most other languages. It uses a calligraphic writing structure very similar to Mandarin, but whilst the written form looks very similar to many Mandarin characters, the meanings and pronunciation of nearly all words were changed. Most forms of similar sounds with different characters, the only difference being the pronunciation, were removed in favour of more latin oriented sounds, as seen in the English and Portugese influences. Most words tend to be more reminiscent of the latin languages, with only the occasional influence of old Mandarin words being present, most of it's history contained in the images themselves. Language Structure - Verbal: When spoken, Sol Common sounds much like you would expect if you mashed English, Portuguese and a bunch of other languages into one thing. It mainly consists of Latin and Germanic roots, with much of the Mandarin influence being in the writing rather than the speech. It follows a generally slow speech flow, and accents between speakers are very, very noticeable, many putting ethnic or cultural twists that have been part of the language for centuries. Usage - Local Systems: The official language of Sol, it varies massively from place to place, from the entirely new dialect used in Elysius to the more oriental influence in Lowell, to the complete disregard by much of traditional Earth settlements. However, it is in regulated use for governmental systems, schooling, emergency response, healthcare and most modems of media. Every year, a official dictionary is released by the Sol Government, as regulated by the Linguistics division. They additionally keep track of the larger dialects across Sol, and maintain the study of ancient languages such as English, Mandarin and Portugese. Usage - Foreign Systems: Not spoken much outwith Sol Alliance space, it is only notable for it's prevalence in Tau Ceti, where it is still a commonly used language amongst the long-standing residents. Whilst it is banned from being used in official documents or media, many private schools still teach in it, and smaller newspaper and news networks still use it, especially those geared towards and older audience. Elsewise, it is nearly never spoken by other species for mainly biological reasons, as many of the sounds are near impossible for other species. Skrell are known to have some success, but it is normally only learnt by historians and translators, as it is otherwise useless. Usage - In Game: Whilst the style of speaking shouldn't change between our current system and this, when writing comes into place (which I hope to God it does) it will be important to note how Common is written in calligraphic, rather than something akin to a Latin alphabet. Gonna keep updating this over time, feel free to leave feedback and all. Also, as I noted, I am wanting written languages in when this gets passed. If it is not, I'll still push for it, but I won't be as happy.

So, I'm going to start getting into the habit of commenting on whitelist apps of species I know jackshit about, but here goes. First off, your answers to many of the questions are quite short. Your response to the differences in RP style seems to be a very vague definition of Unathi mannerisms, such as what would be expected of somebody not well versed in their lore. What problems are there with other races, their language and speech style, the way in which they do their work? Give it some thought. Second, your backstory seems quite good. It's solid, it shows the knowledge of the Unathi lore (Though I cannot comment on how well, I know very little about Unathi lore) and the character seems believable. One problem is the way in which you describe the backstory. You explain it as if the reader already knows it, as if you're expecting everybody to know every little thing that's going on. Normally, there's two approaches. Describe it simply and keep lore explanation to a minimum, whilst still keeping the signs of you knowing the lore there, or you explain the lore fully and carefully as if every person reading this is an idiot. This is especially notable in the first mention of the contact wars. You mention which side he was on, but heck, what're the contact wars? You mention which sides are which, but nothing much more. Why did the wars happen, did Ishrad enjoy this or not? I don't know much on the lore, so take this with a pinch of salt. Thirdly, as much as it does not say to do so, always provide a paragraphs worth of character description. Their personality and how they work, as well as absolute confirmation in where they work; though I presume they are in security going by the backstory; and their personal opinions on Unathi matters, such as tension between them and Skrell, and his own personal views on Unathi culture. Fourth and Final, I feel Ishrad Makdirr sounds a little Tajara'ish. The 'Ish' sound isn't used much, and 'Rad' is definitely a Tajaran kind of name. Isknad; Izknad, or something like that might work better, but I'm not too versed with Unathi naming yet, so it might be fine. However, I have seen you roleplay, and I have some worries. I've seen Mitchell, and he's very different from a Unathi in every aspect I've seen, and in combination with all these other problems, I'm not too sure if I can properly suggest this get accepted. Look over and fix whatever problems you agree with, and I'll re-evaluate.

So, I know very little about Vaucra lore, but from what I can gather from reasing through all this, there's a few problems from the getgo. Firstoff, the main point of a whitelist isn't to show that you know how to RP, or make a good character, it's to show that you know the lore of the species well enough. From what I've seen here, you've done what I presume is the equivalent of doing a Tajaran character that was raised by humans; it does not show anything of the lore of the species, and shows no evidence that you know anything about it. The character itself; though I find getting a whitelist purely for a joke character a little silly; is fine, but not the type of character you want to put on an app. For an application (This is advice for anybody, not just Elohi) you want to create a bland, easy to believe character, that fits into the lore of the species properly and gives you room to show your knowledge. Secondly, and I may be wrong on this point, it seems as though you don't know much on Vaucra lore. I am presuming that as a hive, even though there are different tiers or workers I would think that none are frowned upon, as such. Every worker plays an integral role in the hive, none should be shunned. This is true for ants, bees, and I would presume the same for Vaucra. You state yourself the opposite of this, in that low level workers are socially shunned in ways the fighting and higher class Vaucra are not, and this seems like a misunderstanding of the lore. If I am wrong on this, feel free to correct me, but otherwise, some reading up on the lore is necessary as a general point, and to be able to fix the first point I made. Thirdly, on the topic of the character and your reasoning for this app. You may want to rethink it, especially with the name. If any staff member sees a Miner Vaucra come on with the name Deeg, we're going to PM you about it and in all likelihoods get it fixed, since it's clearly designed as a joke character, which you yourself have said. So all in all, I'm not going to +1 this. The character is a meme, and a clear lack of understanding of the lore is there, or you've simply failed to express what understanding you have.

BYOND key: The Muncorn Character names: Lyanna Field, Jeyne Kahale, Korlyarn'Lyuil-Falaan Juol, Neeyla Krolyanara'Ulsarn, Elvex B-20, Nestor 10. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since April, roughly. I've been playing SS13 for a fair few years now though. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Well, at first I didn't intend on playing much Head roles, my characters fitted quite well as they were. However, with the emergence of my new Skrell Korlyarn, and the character I recently created (Featured below), I've been wanting to finally get the whitelist so I can play them to their full potential. Why did you come to Aurora?: Only good HRP server out there, after Prospector Station closed. I wish there was better reasoning, but that's about it. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, and I have previous experience with them on other servers. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is the act of creating a character with deep and meaningful backstory and personality, but not necessarily interesting backstory and personality. In the form of roleplay we do, we maintain a realistic and believable character in all situations. It is also within this to not create a character that is absurd, unrealistic or simply stupid, such as the infamous 19 Year old pink Tajaran captain. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To provide a good IC image for people to look up to and strive towards, and to set an example of how a department and a station should run. They should ensure that roleplay levels are kept high at all times, as well as keeping paperwork and other duties fulfilled on top of that. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: A whitelisted player is meant to set an IC and OOC example to all players through their OOC behaviour and their ingame actions through their characters and their decisions during events and regular RP. To be whitelisted is to be trusted to roleplay properly and know how to create a realistic character and maintain that, and to show others how to do this by example. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Ethan Nakimura Character age: 52 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): What do you like about this character?: He's an enjoyable character, kind, charismatic, and overall enjoyable to work with, whilst also being highly experienced in his field of work. He is an avid supporter of Nanotrasen and their policies, having helped enforce them for most of his working life. What do you dislike about this character?: For one, he's a little bit out of my style of roleplay, for a few reasons. One, he's a guy, which is quite unusual for me, sadly enough. Secondly, he will always go for the peaceful route and avoid conflict, which is the general inverse for many of my character that will try for peace, then give up and resort to violence and force. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He's near overly qualified for the position, and is overall an excellent role model for people to look up to in many respects. He's kind, fun and an excellent talker, whilst doing his work efficiently and with efficacy. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would rate my roleplaying at; without meaning to brag; at a very good level. I've spent a lot of time working on improving it over the years, and have gone from my reference name snowflake psychiatrist lizard lover, to characters so realistic I get bored playing them since they have no special characteristics. Extra notes: Apologies for the short answers, I've never been too good at over-articulation when it comes to these sorts of replies. I'd appreciate constructive feedback in whatever form possible, and I'll try to respond to any that is given.

I'm in full favour of, well, all of this. I see no reason why it shouldn't be. The only people this effects negatively in a large way are those that random their character every round, which to be honest, isn't something that fits into the atmosphere we try to create here. So, I believe this should be perfectly fine.

[ACCEPTED] Coalf's Tajaran application.
Muncorn replied to Coalf's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
So, I know Coalf fairly well, I've RP'd with him and interacted with him loads OOC'ly as well. He's a solid roleplayer, I've seen him play RUR and develop her into a symbol of depression, and I've seen him create Vol and be the ultimate dickbag of a frog, and being one of the few Skrell players that actively goes against synthetics, rather than having the same reaction to them as most children do to broccoli. He's put a lot of work into this character (I think, I'm no master of Taj lore, nor am I reading the several thousand backstory), and I believe he will make an excellent Tajaran roleplayer. So ultimately, this is a +1 from me, despite his consistent bad grammar and run-on sentences. -
Now... As much as I'm struggling to take this seriously, I'm going to attempt to address it as such. First off, Now, as you yourself mentioned, you are a urbanised mouse, but you're not a tamed mouse. The mice you will be 'roleplaying' as has never been in contact with humans enough to pick up so much as a smidgen of their behaviour. As for pointing things out, I mentioned this in the very ahelps that sparked this off. They point, with their nose. This is part in due to the nature that they tend to find things through smell, and also due to the higher desterity of the neck and the fact that pointing in this way just so happens to make it so they also look in that direction. However, the main problem was; though admittedly I failed to address it; the things you were pointing out. Multiple times I got reports of you pointing to things like consoles and other things which mice do not know the use of in response to somebody saying in a language mice do not know. It's simply ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. And killing mice doesn't solve the problem, since all that's going to happen is there's going to be a recurring mouse, every single round, coming into my office and pointing shit out to me, and being a general nuisance to my sense of immersion. Not an immersion breaker, no, not at all, but a plain nuisance. And I quite simply don't want that nuisance to extend to an OOC capacity, as this is plain ridiculous.

[ACCEPTED] Araskael's Tajara App
Muncorn replied to Araskael's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've known Araskael for a little while now, since back on UT. Whislt my experience OOC'ly and IC'ly with him is fairly sparse, he's a good, solid roleplayer and overall a pretty cool guy. On the basis of that, I'll happily +1 any app he puts out. But, I'm going to get critical, since I enjoy doing so. Firstly, you've got two very good things set down with your character. It's realistic, simple, and a good character to show off your knowledge of the lore. However, you show nothing of this apart from a simple mention of the civil war. Whilst my knowledge of Taj lore is, eh... Awful, I would advise putting some more information on why they decided to be neutral. Was there no push to take part in one side or the other, no benefit to it at all? This may be a moot point, as I'm not sure how the civil war went along, but my point stands as far as it can go. The idea of them being fairly new to alien culture isn't a new idea, but it's definitely not one to be discouraged. The playstyle you're aiming for looks to be quite cliche, with a Tajara that simply wants to help. However, it still could work out well, since I know you're capable of pulling this off better than most. Now, to my knowledge, Tajara clans are still a thing in this lore (I'm not going to bother to check), and whilst there's no 7 foot tall Zhan-Khazan anymore, some notes of the family origin might be nice, as both good buffer and to further show knowledge of the lore. Similarily, if and when this gets accepted, "Zurael is a somewhat largely built," better not mean he's a six foot tall cat behemoth. No cats over 5'8 is the general ruling, remember that. Other than that, this seem nice and solid, but it shares the same problem a lot of apps tend to do. The main point of the whitelist application is not to show you can make a good character and answer the questions, it's to show that you know how the species' lore works, and that you know how that would affect your character. Keep this in mind for any changes/future apps you, or anyone else, make. But, even without those fixes, I'll still +1 this. I just feel these would help for the more discerning people to like this more. -
So, I'm going to do a full review of this. I know full well many of my points have already been pointed out, but I shall do it again. Firstly, you've grasped what I'd like to call the Human opinion on Skrell culture, that being they are a race of pure science, all of their workers being researchers, or doctors, or some other high skill level field. Whilst this is not entirely wrong, it is highly misleading. Skrell are enormous enjoyers of the arts, plays, movies, even the news. They have a special form of news; of which I have forgotten the name; which is designed as a sort of comedy, trying to portray information in the best way possible, both through efficiency and efficacy. They are proliferous writers as well, and they're not ones to shun 'common' jobs, like cooking, gardening and cleaning. The main difference is their viewpoint on it. A Human Janitor might go; "Oh, gotta go clean up some stuff, as always, fucking hell this is a shit job"; whereas a Skrell would take more pride in what they do, trying to do their job well and with as much enjoyment as possible. Whilst most Skrell are scientists, doctors, historians or lawyers, or anything of the kind, it is definitely not frowned upon to be in some other job. A minor thing, not worth fixing, is: . They're not, really. A twenty year old Skrell and a two hundred year old Skrell are considered adults by each other, and by everyone else. The only difference is how large the gap can become between adults. Now, for your character. -Yet again, you delve into the first point I mentioned, with the character Seqquix being pushed into science. Whilst I'm not going to have you change this, not by any means, it feels forced and you say it as if it's a moot point, as if it's obvious a Skrell would be a scientist. -Her father died to a slime. Is that all? No more information? You make it seem as if that wasn't his actual cause of death, and her mother made it up to make her not do slime-being research. It feels forced, or rushed, there's no reason to it, and it simply makes very little sense. Some clarification would be much appreciated on this point. -Now, Robotics... You clearly know of Glorsh, since you mentioned the effects of the Genophage, but you have to remember that it was not something that happened a long time ago, it is comparatively recent. It is fresh in the minds of many Skrell, and robotics is still a highly frowned upon sector. The most that would likely happen would be the production of mechatronics and very, very simple AI's, such as what we see in factories for repetitive, boring work. If that was the case, some pointers as to the specific trade would be useful. -A recluse? Whilst not something bad, why? Why did she decide to be lonely, without friends. Skrell are; by nature; a sociable species, they have expertly evolved ways of communication that allows an enormous range of emotions, and their culture tends to take full advantage of it. You show no reasoning for why she chose this path, at all. -So, why did she leave Jargon? It's far easier for a Skrell to find work in Skrellian space. It's cheaper, it's closer to home, it takes far less time. Tau Ceti is nice and all, but for an accomplished Skrell seeking to work in a fairly normal field, why would they go there rather than stay home? Try to have some explanations for this. -NanoTrasen is a renowned company for getting what they want, and nothing more, so why would they personally seek out Seqquix and hire her? What benefit does she provide that is worth going out of their way to hire her over somebody else? It's far more likely she would have to apply herself, and if so, why would she? -Also, the NSS Exodus is pretty well know. It's the top tier phoron research station in Tau Ceti. On the subject of the app itself, it's a little shaky at best. There's a distinct lack of grammar and punctuation in a fair few parts, and overall it all seems a little bit rushed. You also appear to have an innate knowledge of similar'ish species from different franchises and series', but make sure you don't take too much inspiration or ideas from them, Skrell are complex enough on their own without having to muddle things up. Now, I've RP'd with you several times, and you're a good enough roleplayer that I think you'd do well with this, but I'm unsure as to your experience with this kind of roleplay. it's a very different style of roleplay for Skrell, all your text has to be properly thought out, and the thinking style is, well, alien in nature, it's not something we're used to. Synthetics are fairly similar in nature, ironically enough, but you list none as your characters, so I assume you play them little. My main advice is to properly think out how your character specifically will talk. Are they pure Skrellian with the concise structure to their speech, or have they gotten some more human influences and are a little more fluid with their word flow? Overall, I'd like to see this revised before I could consider a +1 for it.

[ACCEPTED]Synthetic Whitelist App - Muncorn

Right, had a little chat with Coalf, and here's his reasoning. There's a lot of tension around synthetics currently, between the bombings and freedom movement, any kind of situation involving a bad synthetic on NT soil/station would look bad. So how do you get around the problems? You blame somebody else. Hiring the unit from an outside company at a fairly cheap price; as is the case here*; both gives them an extra worker, and if something goes wrong with it, they simply blame Deringer Industries, and there's less fallback on themselves. It's also overall cheaper to hire a unit than to own it, as you can simply send it back for repairs and the like instead of doing so yourself. Also, since the unit works in the security department exclusively, any damage taken is during work, so all due part of the work. Deringer cannot complain in any way about this, and are expected to fix it if needed. Robots also do not fill up worker quotas if they are registered as equipment rather than a worker, so a station designed for 40 workers could have 50 by having ten be IPC's, without any penalisation. All of these are things NanoTrasen would be very interested in. All in all, blame DI for problems, makes it easier on NT. Simple. *To my knowledge, IPC's wouldn't be subject to minimum wage, if that even exists for NT, so the hire price would likely sit at about Ten Thousand Credits annual, not taking into account insurance and the like. For the work it does, this is ideal. -

I'll try to contact Coalf (Which isn't the easiest job, I only have his Byond and Dubtrack) and get things ironed out, but if I don't manage to do so by the end of today, I'll forward this to rrrr or Jackboot if needed and get it evaluated by them, and if need be play my other IPC planned until this is sorted. If I get anything further even post acceptance/denial, I'll post it here. -
[ACCEPTED]Synthetic Whitelist App - Muncorn
Muncorn replied to Muncorn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Eeh, isn't it 1 Credit to 3 Dollars? That's what I've always gone off of, and thus why I chose that figure for it, roughly equalling 3300US$. I've heard people say it both ways, and I always get confused about it, so some solid clarification would be appreciated. Secondly, Deringer Industries (To my knowledge, it's Coalfs idea and design so he'll know more if needed) is well established on Biesel as a trustworthy company, despite the owners known problems. I would see no reason why NT would distrust them in any way, as they've been functioning for a good number of years without problem. If this is a massive problem, I can change it, but I would prefer it as it is, as it helps to provide a little extra background than the Unit being simply bought by NT off of the original manufacturer. -

In response to Nebula, I'll explain all three. 1: That was stupid. 57 Credits is way too small, and I'll go and fix that just now. I made this quite late, and didn't take that into account at all. 2: The suicide was both not related to the Elvex unit in any way, as it was stationed elsewhere, and also effects it in no way. There would've been an investigation, yes, but any results would not be known to Elvex or associated companies. 3: I would believe NanoTrasen would hire robots for work, yes. It's cheaper than buying their own, and it's not an entirely new concept for Aurora. I know Coalf is doing this, he's using the same lore as I am, as a matter of fact. I believe CoolBC has had it happen with his S.Y.I.O.N model, though that might be bought, I'm not sure. It seems reasonable enough, as long as NT could see profit in doing it. The company isn't a mega-corp, not in the slightest. It's based fairly locally in Biesel, and it mainly work in producing and selling/loaning synthetic units. So I would believe this is all fairly reasonable, and I'll work to fix the first point. Thanks for the feedback man. -
Reporting Personnel: Brielle Ritchie Rank of Reporting Personnel: Security Officer Personnel Involved: (Name, Rank: Offender/Witness/Other (Ckey)) - Kelly Evans, Head of Security: Offendor (LordPwner) - Michael Eckhardstein, Security Cadet: Offendor (Blueorb) - Flick Dugmore, Assistant: Witness (Lavaman1) Time of Incident: 3 PM Real time: 21:30GMT+0 02/10/2016 Location of Incident: Stationside, Bar/Brig Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property []Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault [x]Misconduct []Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: Flick Dugmore was in the bar at the time, and has stolen the wheelchair of one of the crew. The cadet present, Eckhardstein, did nothing to stop him at the time, and instead watched on. I decided to intervene, as security was engaged at the moment. I attempted to subdue him without harm, despite his repeated attacks onto my own person. Dugmore then ran away where I caught up with him by tool storage. I nearly had him in control when the cadet flashed me and allowed Dugmore to escape. I shouted at the cadet, admittedly, and I ran back in pursuit of Dugmore, cadet in tow. I again cornered him in the fitness suite, where I managed to fully subdue him when yet again, the cadet flashed me. He then dragged Dugmore to security himself. This was bad enough as it is, but then as I was sitting in the bar, nursing the fairly bad headache I had gotten as a result of Dugmore's attacks, I went SSD for a moment, and upon waking up, I was in cuffs and in security. It turns out, that Commander Evans had declared I was to be arrested for assault., despite having not harmed Dugmore at all. Despite my cooperation at the time, they kept me cuffed, refused to listen to me and were rude all the way through. A charge of battery was enough, but they both knew nothing of how regulations work. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: I was unable to report it, as the offendor was the Head of Security, and it was shift end so nobody was available. Actions taken: None, whatsoever, to my knowledge. Dugmore was arrested and punished, at least, or I'd have more to complain about. Additional notes:

[ACCEPTED]Synthetic Whitelist App - Muncorn
Muncorn replied to Muncorn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
In response to Berry, yes it is a simple machine, but simple still means it has some complexity to itself. On top of that, it has the extra morals added by Deringer Industries, these make it always attempt to improve itself where shown it is needed, and also enforces the belief it is not equal to other organics, as is a part of all of DI units. However, this works in a counterintuitive that it knows full well it is of equal physical level to most organics, so attempts to prove this where needed. This thus explains the interaction with Skrell, as they're generally the only ones to view them as ultimately inferior. It is a minor note, and not only applicable to Skrell. As for the fluent speech, I am meaning it like this. When the unit speaks with the an organic, they will, in all cases, view them as a superior. Due to this, it will refer to them formally, be polite, be concise. On the contrary, it is more natural when talking with other synthetics, unless a supposed superiority is there. The reasoning behind this is a combination of it's both realistic (I got the general theory of this happening from one of Asimov's stories; Little Lost Robot. Amazing story, I recommend people read it), and that it adds a layer of character complexity, which within this idea is fairly thin without it. I hope that qualms the problems. -
BYOND Key: The Muncorn Character Names: Lyanna Field, Brielle Ritchie, Neeyla Grolnaraya'Ulsarn Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Possibly Sheet Silver, though I am unsure. I leave physical characteristics for when I can mess about with them in character creation. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, I have, and I know a fair bit more on IPC's in addition to this. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always enjoyed the idea of semi-sentient synthetics, and as such I have learnt a lot on them and would wish to play them. I have also noticed how most use IPC simply as a robotic human, and thus make very little limits on what they do, which whilst not strictly disallowed, there is generally little reason for this to be the case, and I intend to bring something fairly new to the scene; hopefully. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPC's, are quite obviously, mechanical. Most do not feel emotion, and those that do it is limited and in-organically produced, but they still hold their own morals and beliefs, which makes for a very interesting dynamic. There is also the added point of the synthetic rights movement and the following differed opinions on synthetic freedom (Of which I OOC'ly stand on the anti-synth side) makes for a very different perspective. Character Name: Elvex B-20 Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs What do you like about this character? I quite enjoy the idea of this character, it's simplicity makes for a surprisingly interesting experience by being both highly robotic but still having a lot of personality in the way it interacts with organics and synthetics in the way it does. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would rate my Roleplay ability to be at a very high standard, without meaning to float my own boat. I've spent at least three years in SS13, and during this I've been constantly improving my skill to a level where I've completely detached myself from any characters because if I do, I make myself depressed with how their lives are more complex and exciting than my own real life. Notes: Yes yes, I know this comes with the other influx of IPC apps, that's purely coincidental. Just, pfft, ignore it, please. EDIT: Changed selling price of the Unit to Deringer from 57 Credits to 1145. Refer to my second comment in reply to Nebula for reasoning.

This seems fairly solid, and I've seen you ingame quite often (Though I've never interacted with you much) and you look like you'll make a decent head, from both that and this app. I'll +1 this quite happily. Note: You have a redundancy at the bottom, may want to fix that. Also a few spelling errors here and there. -
A scarf that's Blue and Gold, worn by a guy called Greene. Worst app ever. Plus One (+1(That means I give this my approval(Do ignore the previous comments(Actually, don't ignore the first one, I like it as a joke(OpeningBracket(This is way too long, I'll have trouble counting these)ClosingBracket)))))

It's alright. - Edit It's fairly well written, and tomorrow I'll try and edit it so it has good punctuation and such, and so Writer is spelled correctly. I quite enjoyed it, though the ending was somewhat predictable. With a bit of work you could probably make some Asimov'esque stories, probably by removing the weird stuff and having more roboty thinking.

[Denied]AWPen Head application [REPOST/RETRY]
Muncorn replied to AWPen's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Whilst I've not RP'd with him too much directly, from what I've seen he's been fairly reliably as a player, and my only two complaints are these. The last 3-4 questions are fairly short, and could do with expansion to some extent. Other than that, everything is fairly well written and of a decent quality and quantity. You forgot formatting, and experienced is spelled wrong... But either way, a +1 from me, though like, closer to +0.8 or something. -
[ACCEPTED] Muncorn's Moderator Application
Muncorn posted a topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: The Muncorn Character Name(s): Lyanna Field, Zia-Jane Semilson, Jeyne Kahale AI Name(s): Archer (AI and pAI, generally latter) Preferred means of contact: Discord, normally, though skype and steam work too. Age: 16 Timezone: GMT+0 When are you on Aurora?: Generally most weekdays post 3:30pm, since I have to go to school. I'm on most weekends as well, at varying times. Experience How long have you played SS13?: I've been playing close to 3 years now, though only really consistently playing the past 2. How long have you played on Aurora: Around 5 months now, I think. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I know the mechanics fairly well, though my engineering and science are shoddy to say the least. However, if better knowledge is wanted to get the app accepted, I will quite happily start learning some more. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: I have considerable experience moderating for Unbound Travels a few years ago, and administration on Aphelion and Prospector. The highest I got was Administrator 3, the reason for not being promoted further being that the server died utterly. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No, I have never been banned, and only warnings I've ever had on any server were very minor. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I enjoy roleplaying, I always have. My main interest is in the creation and development of my characters, thus why I play on HRP servers like Aurora and UT. I have good interest in the gameplay as well, but my main focus is on the roleplay. Additionally, I enjoy the community here to a great extent, as fickle as it can sometimes be. Why do you play on Aurora?: Honestly? There where no other HRP servers I could find. However, having played here I've come to enjoy it immensely. The staff are jovial and non-restrictive, which is not something I can say for the servers I've played on previously. The RP is fairly consistent across all players, which is a pleasant experience. What do moderators do?: Moderators are there to assist players in gameplay and roleplay questions, and to help the server run smoothly. They deal with griefers and other rulebreakers in a calm manner. They are meant to communicate with the playerbase to keep the staff to player relationship healthy. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: To be part of a highly regarded group of people that make the server run efficiently whilst keeping the players best interests in mind. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I enjoy helping people out, and I'm starting to miss it, honestly. I always enjoyed being a moderator even back on UT, where every other staff was either lazy or an awful person. To moderate here would mean quite a bit to me. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I never lose my cool, and I'm friendly to everyone I meet, generally. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Refer to above, really. I recall having been properly angry around three times this year, none of those from SS13, so, yeah. -

However, concerns were raised when it turned out he, and the rest of the engineering staff, were 'renovating' engineering through the use of their given materials, modifying it to an environment not meant for a workplace. Further concern was raised through the fact that the staff were charging other crew for entry to the area, as well as attempting to acquisition an alcohol dispenser for their personal use. It all seems to be a huge waste of resources that could be better used, as well as possible breaks of regulations and contract on multiple peoples. Also, there was apparently a room filled with superheated phoron, which is a massive safety risk to the crew. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: Samuel Hatheway, Head of Personnel. - Additional notes: They were charging 20 credits for entry, less for synthetics.
