Ghara/Na'ī hōma(New Home)

Yes, but given that India is one of the primary colonizers (highest population nation in the world after all), there would be numerous Indian nations, and this isn't exactly a Great Power. -
Actually I was just a medical doctor. Anyway, I was there because one of security's prisoners was receiving mass brute damage while inside permanent holding, and had major damage to all major organs. Which is rather excessive. I personally witnessed the borg flashing him and his time being reset, as well. Security had also detained several other people for almost no reason, for long amounts of time. The HoS had apparently personally beat someone with their bear hands too.

I'm seconding this. Very much.

The Politics thread(Insert Trigger warning here)

The problem is not a small number of bigots, it's negative stereotypes within the culture at large. The popular image of the 'welfare queen', for example, is normally black. When looking through articles about welfare queens in a magazine from the 90's, one group of researchers found that half of the 'queens' in the articles were black. Blacks are disproportionately arrested, convicted, and sentenced. A group of white second amendment activists can walk down the street with rifles, but if a group of blacks were to do the same you'd get SWAT teams called in. On a job application, controlling for other variables, a black non-convict is less likely to be called back than a white with a criminal record. This isn't due to Snidely Whiplash style villains twirling their racist mustaches, it's due to negative aspects of the culture at large and negative stereotypes many people aren't even aware of. With regards to gender, there is still a gap in pay between men and women, even in the same fields. There are a disproportionate amount of men on the boards of corporations. Looking at the solid numbers, discrimination is there. Obviously there is also discrimination against men, but this shouldn't be treated as some sort of contest. These are both problems and both should be dealt with. It just so happens that women's problems are of a higher magnitude and thus require more attention, but men's problems should not be ignored. -

Slavery of the type practiced in the Carribean and American south was different from previous types of slavery in the sheer scale of it, and the racial aspect of it. Racism as we know it today is a result of slave holders trying to justify their practices. Slavery was profitable. That's why people did it. People got good returns on their investments. Individuals made a lot of profit from it. Slavery did end eventually, but this doesn't excuse the fact that millions of people were forced to work without pay and were traded like cattle. On a related note: The modern concept of 'race' is literally one of the worst ideas in all of human history. It's not based on actual genetics; It merely correlates with a few arbitrary traits like skin color, and there's more genetic diversity within Africa than outside it. There are no neat lines between 'races', as the gene flow has been rather prolific throughout human history, so changes between different ethnicities are rather gradual and overall genetic diversity is rather low. These aren't very logical cultural groupings either. Just look at "Asians" or "Africans" and you'll see such an absurd amount of diversity that the idea of this being a common cultural group is simply absurd. -
[Aurora: The Reality TV Series] Wiz event on secret 29/10

One of the absolute best events I've seen, this was a great way to run a Wizard round. -
You could be able to create a variety of creatures. Perhaps one could be some sort of non-sentient meat-sack you can periodically harvest for meat. Basically a really creepy meat plant.

I'll be an utter hypocrite and agree with this post. I'm guilty of this myself, given my character's 'tragic accident' in her backstory. However, in this case the disfigurement is obvious, eye-catching, and impedes the character in his duties as a doctor. Hospitals can still replace burnt skin, do facial reconstruction surgery, and he could almost certainly get an implant to help him speak. So he wants a very conspicuous mask so people can't see his disfigured face, but he still refuses to get reconstructive surgery to fix this disfigurement out of pride? I don't follow the logic here. He can also get an implant to help with his voice, maybe even get new vocal chords with surgery. I don't see any reason for him to refuse a replacement to his vocal chords. He's a doctor, and not being able to speak can place patients in danger. I just find it odd that so many people choose to voluntarily remain mutilated when treatment is available. In this case, he also places patients in danger by refusing to get an implant for his vocal chords.

Just borrow some pepper spray from Sec and go Officer Pike on their asses. Or make it SOP for medical personnel and patients to board the shuttle first.

[Denied] Dea's Lore Dev re-application
Erik Tiber replied to Dea Tacita's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I'd just like to make it clear that Tablespoon's decision was not unilateral and has the support of several members of the lore team, me included. My personal reasons primarily revolve around reactions to criticism (though I have a problem with that myself ). In the meantime, you can post suggestions within the suggestions forum. It'd be nice to get feedback on the lore. -
KONFL1QT: Head of Department Application

I'd personally be perfectly fine with genetic alteration being common, at least to some degree. Maybe some minor improvements are mandated, with these expanding in each generation. Several poorer colonies or frontier worlds lack gengineering programs, thus allowing for people to still have characters with severe disabilities. People being nine foot tall and having tails will not necessarily follow; such radical modification could mainly be limited to a number of small subcultures, or other groups of people unlikely to be working on the space station. Quite frankly, we already have issues with people, say, having a character whose skin is covered in scars, or who has some tragic over-the-top backstory or some mysterious origin. (I'm personally guilty of the second one ) I'd find this idea to be a good example of you taking advantage of the fact that this is a science fiction setting, rather than the modern world with some shiny bits tacked on. Looking at the actual implications of future technologies on society, in this case from the perspective of an individual. It makes for an interesting backstory and additional creativity. For example, someone could also play a 'designer baby' designed in the image of one of their parents and must now live in their shadow, or one who was engineered to look 'goth' because their mother found it aesthetically pleasing and must now live with their parent's decision for the rest of their life. Or, in this case, someone who was gengineered to mature more quickly than others and, as a result, had trouble relating to her peers. It all depends upon how the player uses it. This sort of roleplay is absolutely perfect for the Science Fiction roleplay of Auror; Looking at how new technologies affect society from the ground level. I've RP'd with Sarah Scott before, and she seems like a good, believable character. EDIT: However, I am somewhat troubled by some issues raised in this thread. I will try playing sec with you for a few shifts before making my final judgement. -
I've noticed that the random names provided in the game are almost entirely European or American (mostly American), and some of them seem a bit out of place on a Heavy RP server (like "Skywalker"). So, I suggest adding a few namesfrom other languages. I advise including some names from the lists for Arabic, African, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Iranian, Thai, Korean, Pakistani, Japanese, Vietnamese, Russian, Portuguese, and Spanish names. I have downloaded the source code and can add these to the list myself. As of now, there are 807 female first names, 725 male last names, a total of 1502 first names (some are unisex), and 620 last names.

These could also be used as an entertainment item, too.
