[Accepted] Dronz's Unathi App

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: DronzTheWolf

Character Names: Michael Lee, Talon Hatfield, Arenu Mala'Karan, Bakhteiarova Hanar, and many more that I've retired until further notice.

Species you are applying to play: Unathi

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Deep Red

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Unathi have this really intriguing honorbound society, and it makes me want to immerse myself in it. The differences between Moghean and Ourean society are also extremely interesting, and would be fun to play out. I hope to stress the tensions between the two planets more in some of my characters if the whitelist passes. They're one of the more fleshed out species we have, and mechanically they're pretty interesting too.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathi are a testament to controlled chaos, they're fiery and quick to act, but at the same time have an example of the stoic shaman or the noble warrior to look to and try to emulate. Many failing to do so and falling somewhere between the cruel barbarian and the noble warrior. Then there's the aspect of women, who are seen as little more than property and mothers. They look down on other species for being weaker, though some applaud the intelligence and other virtues of them.

Character Name: Skaav Alkass

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Born on Ouere, Skaav lived among his clan in New Skalamar. He once considered leaving, but chose not to. However, after the recent rebellion that left New Skalamar as the only Izweski-controlled keep on Ouerea, he has considered leaving his home. "I was happy to fight, at first, but in the light of recent events and through experiencing the masterful parlay of the Izweski Nation with this rebellion, it makes me double think. Words that would send my blood boiling now chills it to the bone, the thought of killing my own people, on my own planet makes me shudder." He wrote in a personal memoir, before ultimately deciding to leave. He spoke to a Th'akh shaman before leaving, to get a blessing to keep him safe, and they were hesitant to do so but ultimately did.

He would seek experience in another place, at first wanting to work with a Skrellian company, before they turned him down, and he appealed to NanoTrasen instead. After some negotiation, he agreed to leave his home in New Skalamar to live and work in Tau Ceti, and after the immigration process, he went to an academy to train and become a Security officer in the service of NT. It is unlikely he will be policing other Oureans, after all. He was assigned to their station, the NSS Aurora II, as a Cadet to prove himself. Though leaving his home in such turbulent times left a distaste in his mouth, especially once he arrived to Tau Ceti to find out that an attempt on the Hegemon's life was made.

What do you like about this character? He is going to be unsure about the himself, being out of his element, and question many odd quirks of the other species.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6/10

A really short and to-the-point backstory that paints a picture of both a well-realized character, as well as understanding key aspects of Unathi lore, inclusive of recent events. And given the characters we've seen you play, I know you put a good deal of thought into this app and character. You're a delight to interact with, roleplay wonderfully, and I can't remember noting any red flags about you ICly or OOCly.

A very firm +1. This is a great app.

As the others have said, I really like the short and to-the-point ness of the character. It kicks off at the news lore, skipping all the boring bits. The direct note from the character itself gives us some more insight about them too.

Also fuck yes. Th'akh boys unite. Can't wait to kick ironmask ass with you. You RP well, I was surprised when I heard you didn't have an Unathi one yet. +1

+1. Although a short backstory, it gets across the character, how he acts, more recent news, and an understanding of Unathi. The biggest problem, i'd say, is your 6/10 on RP. You're a fantastic RPer, Dronz, i'd say 8/10. Your characters are not only interesting, but their ideas are often unique, and you're always PMing me with other ideas, serious or not. I trust you to make good use of your whitelist.

HEEERE'S BOXY

While I've made promises to look apps over and give my reviews when friends send me a link, my ability to get easily distracted is often my downfall. So I decided to not promise anything. And so here I am, distracted by Dronz's application and making a reply because I've stumbled across it.

While I'm a big sucker for laying back and reading a good story, this one's short and to the point without much in the way of detail for someone to go "wait a minute, this looks off, let's argue about why". That's no fun. It leaves a lot of room to be discovered of the character, and thus surely a pleasant surprise for players and characters alike. And although some may be skeptical when I say this, it will surprise the character's player as well. I've made many characters who's stories started out small, and it had shortly taken it's own life. I highly approve of that.

The character themselves seem decent, holding a sort of wisdom. But between now and the colonization of Ouerea leaving only a twenty-two year gap for colonization to take hold and grow, how old will you make Elkass Alkass? And if you could, I'd like to see more about why you like the character. Anything you could possibly relate to, or not relate to? Or do you not "know them enough" yet and leaving it to be discovered? And is he fine with combating only Hegemony Unathi, or is he against fighting one of his kind overall no matter which planet they came from seeing to how they're all the same anyways?

That aside, as a player I've known Dronz for about two years. We used to play a lot together which created a bit of drama in the game, but during that time we were both trying to get into the swing of RP and Aurora itself. Since then we've both changed quite a bit, and I dare say there's been improvements. He's adaptable, easygoing, even-tempered and level-headed. He's also done quite a bit of work spriting for the lore team on making race-specific items that are open to the community, and he does have a love for the lore, often not one to make mistakes about it and willing to help the others learn more. I know that Dronz will take pride in the responsibility in having this whitelist, and zero doubt that he'll be among one of the best whitelistees. Mainly because it gives him the chance to play a Swolebold.

Also, put your milkshakes away. It's bringing all the Russian bots to the thread.

Alright, time to address questions:

1. I plan on having him he 22 years of age, and a third son of four brothers, with two older sisters as well. He was born on Ouerea and has little knowledge on the true state of Moghes, aside from what his family and others from the planet have told him, and then the recent influx of refugees.

2: The character, and why I like him: He is going to be extremely surprised to find more Unathi than one would expect on the station, doubly so at the amount of Unathi from Ouerea. I can relate to being nearly the middle child, and how he has struggled with the challenge of doing so. Not old enough to be responsible as the elder, but too young to be immature and careless like the younger.

3. Hegemony Fights: Alkass is loyal to the Hegemony, and he while he would hesitate less to fight Unathi from Moghes, he would still prefer to avoid a fight all-together. The greatest victories are made not on the battlefield, but by preventing bloodshed.

Hello, I am sorry for the delay in this application.

Your character background is brief, but as mentioned before it is a well realized character. Your responses to Neinbox are also well informed and well thought out. To avoid further delay, I will be happy to give you a unathi whitelist!
