NewOriginalSchwann Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 Matt please I am begging you to get these ported soon as I cannot go back to football heads and Homer Simpson.

It was already a bit of a problem that you could only really use them on characters that are white, but it seems to have become even more exasperated by this change, where you're forced to have the complexion of a white corpse for your limbs to match. It doesn't look completely awful in the preview, but in game it looks a lot more pasty and pale, like I've never gone in the sun in my life. And if I try to be anything but white, it looks like I've had a very unfortunate sunburn incident. If this could be fixed, it'd have my support, but as-is, I'm not a fan for now. I feel like this is a separate issue that should be fixed, rather than a reason to deny a much-needed resprite. Tho IIRC this issue is derived from a fix for back in the day where all prosthetics were affected by tone. As for your second image I don't really see how it doesn't match.

The issue moreso isn't that they don't match in the second one, the issue is more of the fact that in order to match the limbs, which can't be recoloured, I have to play a character that ends up coming across as sickly pale and white in-game. My character isn't supposed to be white, let alone vampire-like, but I can't do anything to mitigate it with this change.

That's not really a sickly pale but I can certainly see why lack of said customization may make the limbs unappealing. The unfortunate fact is I'm unsure of an easy fix that wouldn't mess with the colouring of every other prosthetic limb, perhaps adding a set of 'body markings' unique for said limbs (assuming those are recolourable? never played with them).

Always been a problem, I don't see this as a good reason to deny removing Pinocchio noses and football heads. If anything I like that this might mean we finally fix synthskin limbs not matching your skin tone.

This seems like an issue that should be fixed before a perma merge.
Itanimulli Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 What if we just had a separate PR for syntskin shading? Because if they were already a stagnant color before, the difference now literally can't be more insignificant. This is not something to hold up a resprite over, though the resprite has brought more attention to it. Basically, merge the resprite, someone get on the limbs, as they are a completely separate issue.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Anyone with a skin tone that doesnt match is going to look like a clown. Its a relevant issue.

It's a problem that's being made even more noticeable due to this change, a fix should come with this PR. It affects Shells as well, and not just people with synthskin. Passing something that's going to make another related issue even more exasperated isn't good practice. It needs fixing, considering there's a direct correlation in this instance.
MattAtlas Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Hello, I'm the one continuining Poze's work. Some things I noticed during the test and have fixed: aliens being unable to select bodytype and shells having ethnicities. I'm considering removing the cold ethnicity as it looks really bad and making the default Warm w/ skintone 45. The reason that skintones are 30 to 220~ is because this system works based on a colour base to which we apply the tonality. This means that a skintone of 0 with a white base is just a chalk human. Re: synthskin, I guess I could fix it but I would have to see how they work. It might end up delaying the PR.
Skull132 Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 In my holy onion. Something like cold is nice to have. Maybe not the exact colour as it was, but, y'know. It's nice. Making warm default is a good idea, tho.

MattAtlas Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 For the record, I will fix the synthskin issue.
Carver Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Keep cold, keep it 30-220 at minimum. This is an era of people living in ships and stations where they may never see natural sunlight.

MattAtlas Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 This is being merged either today or tomorrow, god bless, simpson humans are dead. If you want to experiment with skin colors to add a new ethnicity download a copy of the game and ask me how to make it so that you can choose a human's skin color, I will be glad to help.
