Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 I think they pop a lot better than the original sprites. I personally don't trend to this militaristic style, but as a style you're going for it's looking good!
Happy_Fox Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 I'm loving the designs so far. Looking very professional. Can we get some tacticool looking Bowman style headsets for them? Â
Twoscythe Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Can the greens be just a touch more saturated? I see you're going for a contemporary military look, but this shade of drab gives me a "Glory to the UPP!" vibe.

It lacks the connotations of Mercs being a Syndicate force, that comes with their current look.
Twoscythe Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 UPP is the lazy Space-Russia used by CM SS-13. They also have a modern military uniform, but in an olive drab and gray palette. So I was thinking a more satuarated palette would mesh better with the dominant palettes on Aurora (It's super high-saturation) and also make it more distinct from that other brand. It's already different enough, but I believe that more different is more good.
Nekonyan123 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 I like those too. Giving mercs a better look overall. +1

In AvP lore, it's a coalition of states led by Russia and China. Mercenaries are from the Syndicate. The Syndicate is primarily funded by Necropolis Industries. Necropolis Industries is headquartered in the USSR on Earth. This actually makes a surprising amount of sense for the faction. Moreso than that, I doubt battlefield mercenaries would wear easily identifiable uniforms. Urban camouflage patterns are fine. Â On 13/12/2019 at 22:43, AmoryBlaine said: New camo. Â have I ever mentioned that I love your work?
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 (edited) Why do we need forest camo in space? What are they hiding in? The ferns? Theres a lot of fun you can do with the colors. Having conventional vanilla camo rips out the scifi elements. Edited December 18, 2019 by Marlon Phoenix
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 They look like they belong in iraq, not a space station

I told you two days ago that if you want something else, you need to give me a sample so I have something to work with. Complaining that "vanilla" camo rips out the sci-fi elements of our sci-fantasy setting isn't going to help me come up with something you like.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 They dont stand out. They look like the first page of google images for "soldier" and "pmc". I told you what directio would be better. You didnt like what i said and ignored it... Look at the bright blue tcfl. The red syndicate gear. Make something distinct in color and avoid camo and military colors. Dont make G.I. Joe, or at least make space GI Joe.
AmoryBlaine Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 @Marlon Phoenix Quote Don't worry about CAMOFLAUGE. Make something distinct, that has the aesthetic of the faciton you are going for. and identifiable. I'm not going for a faction. I'm going for standard fatigues of a random mercenary squad. No one else has the above look. They are identifiable. Â

Make something distinct in color and avoid camo and military colors. Dont make G.I. Joe, or at least make space GI Joe. They look like theyre overly dedicated airsoft players or russian troops pouring out of trucks in the Ukraine. You have made a bunch of colorful and distinct uniforms; i know youve got good talent and im not attacking your skills only the ugly direction these bring the mercs into.
Scheveningen Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Gonna have to agree with Marlon here. The merc outfits should stand out more
Kintsugi Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I'm of the opinion that a discrete, illegal force of operators should look like that - to be frank, I hate how showy everything can be. Furthermore, the mercs looking like a group of shadowy criminal operators with no identifying marks is a good thing - it creates the dichotomy of "above the law, below the law." You have the sneaky squirrel look of the mercenaries, camouflage and and neutral solid colors, a tactical aesthetic that says "I'm here to fuck things up." - In contrast with the bright colors of the TCFL (Hideously bright, to be frank), the ERT, etc - They're the "police", the boys in blue - they're above the law, and they visually let you know they're the good guys.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Make them look like scifi mercenaries not airsofters

Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) I don't know man there's such a huge breadth of science fiction uniforms aesthetics and themes to choose from that I refuse to believe you can't imagine space mercenaries being more than what you've made them. Go on google images and start diving down the rabbit hole! Find themes! Aesthetics! Colors! Accents! Anything!!!   Spoiler  Spoiler  Spoiler Spoiler  Spoiler  Spoiler This is all just plowing through the rabbit hole of the 'related images' google gave me for the first one! Colors! Accents! Cool pointed shoulder pads! Asymmetry! Solid colors with accents! These LOOK scifi. Your uniforms LOOK 2019. (I will admit googling 'scifi soldier' also brought up so much freaking camo and khaki that I think scifi in general has just tanked in terms of clothing imagination in the popular consciousness since the 70's scifi era ended) Edited December 19, 2019 by Marlon Phoenix
Scheveningen Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 You can mostly run with what Kyres did with the hardsuit sprites. Do stuff like actual overalls and jumpers, stuff tuck 'n roll professional mercs would wear. Their outfits should appear 'rough around the edges' like a merc would be.
