Coalf Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 An interesting essay, short sweet and to the point I like it. But I have a question. Over time I have noticed that the idea of a "Frontier Alliance" as an entity isn't really existant. Sure people are from there, but they'll usually state they're from the individual parts/colonies rather than support the alliance as a whole. Do you think this is good, bad, do you have different experiences and would you fix this?

Do you think this is good, bad, do you have different experiences and would you fix this? Hi! Thanks for the feedback and a very, very good question, one I pondered on while making this app, actually. And to be frank? I don't really have an exact answer. It's not as if it is not grounded with reason, though--the lore itself already implies that the Alliance, as a nation, is not really a thing. It is described as a loose confederation of the three factions, which already shows us why this is the case. It is not a nation of itself, but rather many nations united under similar goals and ideas. Would I want to change this, though? Possibly. I have some ideas to make characters feel themselves like citizens of the Frontier Alliance, possibly by adding things like holidays that are celebrated all over the Alliance territory.
Zundy Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 I like your focus on the frontier. Do you have any plans for Elyra? They're critically under developed but have amazing potential.

I very much enjoy working in a team so I would hope I could see about expanding their lore once I'm in the position by working with other people. I would write what Coalf has said on his app, really-- Quote While the thematical subject is going to change course into more domestic issues and less invader issues, I have no reason to change the way the articles have been writen in terms of galactic scale up to this point. I want to keep the general feeling of optimism, but also highlight that a LOT of shit has happened to Elyra and that it can't just be brushed past. Instead of introducing a "new threat", I want to také the results of the previous threats, the Unathi incursion, Liidra incursion and Mushroom incursion and have THOSE be the dramatic foil of the day, not another "This just in, aliens are kicking our favorite friend! Again! I agree with him wholeheartedly, and I think he has a better vision on Elyra than I do. So in the case I get accepted and he does not, I'd probably still go to him and consult with him on where to go with Elyra. That being said, I'd also like to make Elyra more than just "Middle East in space", and I'd probably do that by showing what is different from our day's Middle East culture. VUX Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 I like that someone wants to focus on the Frontier Alliance, but I have to ask (since I care about it for some reason) What would you do with the techno-conglomerate? Would they remain robot-friendly? Would they have more of a role, or less?
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I like your application and you have a lot of earnestness and energy. Your essay is also really neat. I like your plans. +1

Would they remain robot-friendly? Would they have more of a role, or less? I'll admit that I did not think of TC and the Scarabs that much at the time of writing this, since I've heard that VT is already working on a rewrite for these two. That doesn't mean I have not though about it, though! I'd very much leave them the same--technology-loving transhumanist people living on their ships. They do, though, feel largely irrelevant at the moment--as such, I'd like to make their fleet bigger and make them THE navy of the Frontier Alliance. I'd also want to expand more on this bit-- Quote However, the Techno-Conglomerate has been known to be covetous of technology, oftentimes appearing to hoard it to themselves or attempt to seize technology for themselves where possible, though they avoid doing this in a manner that may generate hostility or conflict. They believe that they are the ones best suited to making use of the technology, as they believe that others might not know how to properly utilise it. I feel like this is good potential for writing news articles on the TC, perhaps describing how they steal or seize technologies--it could create a rather polarizing public picture of the Techno-Conglomerate, and the Frontier Alliance in association. There's more to do, of course-- but that's just one example of what could be done. 6 hours ago, Marlon Phoenix said: I like your application and you have a lot of earnestness and energy. Bygonehero Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 (edited) Explain to me a day in the life of a Frontiersmen from the Far Rim who came to make it big in Tau Ceti. Where would they live? What would their priorities be? How would their view be different, if at all? etc. Not looking for specific answers, be creative. Edited September 9, 2019 by Bygonehero
Pegasus Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 Thank you for your application and please excuse my late reply to it. Having gone over your essay, I have a followup question: Does adding detail to parts of the Frontier Alliance narrow what, until now, has been a very open-ended place for players to create characters from, and is this beneficial if it does?
BoryaTheSlayer Posted September 12, 2019 Author Posted September 12, 2019 Sorry for dissapearing for a while. I have been sick and as such haven't really been looking much at forums. How would their view be different, if at all? etc. Not looking for specific answers, be creative. Thank you for your question! Let me preface it: The planets of the Outer Rim are usually harsh, and are largely unexplored. Very few people actually live there, especially permanently. It is often visited by the travelling Techno-Conglomerate/Scarab ships, and the occassional raiders, scavengers and daring adventurers. The large aspect of living in the Outer Rim is roaming, as it is very hard to stay in one place. It is, in essence, the sandbox part of the Frontier Alliance--which I will touch upon later in this post. That being said, though, let's take a look at how someone who has lived most of their life in Outer Rim would go about to moving to Tau Ceti. I will not look into how the TC and Scarab people go about moving to Tau Ceti as it is explained on the wiki, but instead I would show how I see a scavenger abandoning their lifestyle in favour of a far more stable life, in a far more civilized and safer area of space that is Tau Ceti. If they wanted to turn over a new leaf and begin an honest life in Tau Ceti, they would probably first try to find work with the Megacorps(and in this specific case, NT) within the Frontier Alliance territory, and after some time, be transferred to work in Tau Ceti. After having made their way to Tau Ceti, they would most likely find themselves fit in the less savoury spots of Mendell City--such as Jie District, or perhaps the Imperial Plaza. Throughout these experiences, they would most likely have to try their best to not get in trouble with the law, especially after not having to care for such for so long in the lonely place that is the Outer Rim. I'll be honest, I found it really hard to answer your question because I feel I did not express what I wanted to do with the proposed categorization. After having read through the region category section again in a week, I find it quite lacking and I have not expressed my vision well enough--which leads us to On 10/09/2019 at 04:26, Pegasus said: Thank you for your application and please excuse my late reply to it. Having gone over your essay, I have a followup question: Does adding detail to parts of the Frontier Alliance narrow what, until now, has been a very open-ended place for players to create characters from, and is this beneficial if it does? It's part of why I wanted to do this categorization of planets and regions of the Frontier Alliance. I do not want to take away the sandbox aspect of the Frontier. However, we can make the Frontier Alliance detailed, while leaving some largely unexplored areas for those who wish to make head-canon planets, cultures, etc. Besides, The Frontier Alliance is one of the biggest places for immigrants to flock to, and we still have all of that Frontier outside the Alliance! Adding details to the Frontier Alliance can limit the open-endedness of it, yes, but through some work it can be largely avoided while making complete sense--which is what I want to do first, as it would let me, and the other devs, work with the Frontier Alliance and involve it more in the events of our great Auroraverse, while not being afraid of stepping on the toes of some people's headcanon.
Cnaym Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Really enjoying what I read so far. I've been doing people from the frontier and I agree that the choice and headcannon part is important to keep up while streamlining it a little bit for newer players looking for outlines to their characters from the wiki. I think your Idea may allow people to keep their storries, but also outline how the alliance works and why they'd stick together. Making the out rims a bit more dangerous seem to make sense with all the mega corps and empires controlling the more civilised spaces while giving the alliance a bigger role in handling their territory. Think of them having to defend the outside from criminals and the more established parts from companies would make for an interesting enough form of government which more people might pick instead of going with the "out of nowhere" characters.
