More doctor alt titles.

What it says in the title, really. In the light of this thread I thought it would be good to make this thread, seeing as a lot of people talked about adding more titles instead of renaming the existing one(s). Throw your suggestions here if you have any and let's discuss if this is really needed and good for the server.

Personally, I would love to have more alt titles so that people can have characters that specialize in specific branches of medical practice. While it could be limiting the character in terms of what they can do in the department, I think it facilitates RP and that is what we are here for. It won't be too hard to implement this either, as far as I know.

What do you think?

This will create the same issues we had prior to my medbay alt title reform. Overt specialization with new and unique titles hogs a slot for little gain. Currently all major areas are covered by the alt titles and there is a playstyle for just about anyone.

And we still sometimes have issues where medbay is full of surgeons and one paramedic.

Medical has becoming increasingly complex since brainmed and not user friendly unless youre a main of brainmed. Further creating specialization can create harm to medbay flow through the same pre-reform medical and revert us in a cyclical way back to the same issues.

We need to focus on how titles interact with each other and department/game flow as the priority.

In short Alt titles need a very specific reason to exist and all care that they slot in well and smoothly.

Alt titles should either have some mechanical difference or implying different duties. And to be frank, the medical doctor role already has way too many alt titles, adding more will just make it more confusing.

But, what titles?

Swapping the "medical doctor" title for something along the lines of physician or general practitioner would be a change for the better, in my opinion.

As for other specializations, I cannot think of anything at the moment. I'm a social scientist, not a medical professional (it was too expensive).

IMO we should give surgeons a separate slot instead of an alt-title for MD, like how Atmos Techs are in engineering. Duties overlap but with different specialties, and no more 3-surgeon shifts.

As far as alt-titles, I agree that there is such a thing as too much; a ton of titles to remember can easily cause confusion in duties and isn't new-player friendly.

Though I'd love to see nurse-practicioners make their way to the server.

Alt titles need to be separated from medical doctor. Here's how I'd do it:

2 MD slots 1 surgeon slot 1 nurse slot (maybe nurse practitioner as an alt title)

Make EP an MD alt title and there you have it. The alt titles need to have SOME distinction at the very least.

I strongly agree with Doxx and Matt especially the surgeon thing. We have two operating rooms, there is no need for 4 surgeons or something like that.

That is something that happens very often because, frankly, surgery is fun. It's more engaging that giving someone medicine. Separate it from the MD will be for the better, trust me.

That but 2 slots each I would think. Weird for there to be two OR’s but one surgeon.

Hi! I'm glad to see that the discussion picked up and I must say that I agree with a lot of what has been said here.

A definite yes by me. Sounds much better imo. The alt title would be EP/Trauma Physician,in cames the change goes through, and if that is the case, something like Critical Care Physician.

Yes on the slots thing but no on the nurse practicioner alt title. If anything, we can increase intern/resident slots to 3, considering residents can act as nurses. Also 2 surgeons as per Roostercat's comment above.

Bold of you to assume we have a CMO that often

fairly regularly during primetime when they're needed at least. im sure it hurts when they're needed when the other roles arent filled but yeah, point still remains.

There's a limit to how much medbay staff there should be. I think that's about 5 excluding CMO, interns and biochemists, so let's not get too hasty on the adding jobs part.

These are what I could come up with that were different enough they could warrant an alt title and would fit in the medbay. I'm not going to talk about implementation and I'll only elaborate if asked about it. These are just suggestions, feel free to pick and choose
