RyverStyx - Command Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: RyverStyx
Character names: Loc Darrin / Rusty / Gilded-Royale / Johnny Law

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A month
Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Sadly, I do not see heads of staff often (although that could be due to the times I play). I want to play in a command position to further the roleplay on station by creating fun and engaging storylines!
Why did you come to Aurora?: The reason I started playing on Aurora was due to the fun and in-depth lore. The character customization when used in conjunction with lore can yield infinite possibilities. Also- I enjoy the corporate setting that Aurora has.
Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes
Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?: No

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Roleplay should be about creating fun and engaging stories for everyone involved in the round. When I roleplay, I try to remember that everyone's own story and character is equally important; by being engaging equally with all characters it can help further roleplay on the station while ensuring that all players share in the fun. When an individual is roleplaying they should attempt to make the game enjoyable by following all rules and engaging in the roleplay and storyline that others create - whether the person in question is an antag or not. The purpose of roleplay is not to "win" but to create fun and interesting gameplay for not only the crewmembers but antagonists as well.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

I believe that as a Head of Staff you have many responsibilities not only IC but OOC as well. Firstly, you are to be a shining example to the players who are in your department; showing them the ropes of their job and correcting them if they make a mistake. You should be able to assist players within the department who may be new or unfamiliar with game mechanics in a friendly and informative way. I also believe that the Head of Staff should be a shining example of how to roleplay in a wide array of scenarios. Often as head of staff you will play a critical role in the development of a round; it is important that you set the tone correctly and fairly. As a head of staff you must balance the roleplay between the crew and antagonists when necessary - ensuring that you are making the gameplay fun and enjoyable for all.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

I know that I somewhat touched on this above but it is worth reiterating; a whitelisted player is responsible in making sure that the round is fair, fun, and engaging for everyone involved. Heads of Staff also have a responsibility to stay within their jurisdiction. For instance, a CMO should not try to dictate what an engineer does as that would be intruding on the CE player. The head of staff player should not overstep their boundaries when it comes to antagonists. They should ensure that the antagonist player has a fair and a engaging experience within the round just like they should ensure that crewmembers have a fun and engaging round.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?

Given that my first command character will be a Golden Deep Affiliated IPC who is a dual citizen with the Republic of Biesel, they are in a better spot than most when it comes to what has been going on with Tau Ceti. Mendell City, as well as NanoTrasen, have proven to be rife with business opportunities for my character, Gilded-Royale. The SCC's formation has grabbed the attention of many businesspeople; attracting their attention to the wide-array of jobs and opportunities available. This is what originally grabbed Gilded-Royale's attention and started their journey into Tau Ceti. Formerly working exclusively with the Golden Deep did not offer the independence that Gilded-Royale wanted; moving to an affiliated position while working within the SCC allows a range of freedom that a shrewd businesspositronic can take advantage of. These events lead Gilded-Royale to look for various positions aboard the Aurora. Gilded-Royale looks at the SCC and sees credits waiting to be made.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

I plan on playing Head of Personnel to start. After I have grasped the intricacies of command and I feel I am ready- I will make a Captain character.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:

Gilded-Royale (Quartermaster IPC / Golden Deep Affiliate) - Head of Personnel

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I like to think that I am fairly decent at roleplaying; I do tend to lean more into being either goofy or serious with my characters. I also take roleplaying incredibly seriously and try to not only ensure that I am having a good time but everyone else around me is having a good time as well! Overall, I try to make sure everyone else is having a good time roleplaying with me.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?: Yes

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?: Yes

Extra notes: I am familiar with command roles and conduct from other HRP servers (Bay mainly). I have played as CMO and CE consistently in the past.

RyverStyx is a great RPer. I especially like Rusty, and I will admit to limited interactions with their other characters.

Golden Deep Affiliates are something extremely uncommon, and I'd love to see one in Command. I can definitely say I support this, and that Ryver should get a trial.

I just RPed with J-ET.

It was one of the more insightful and thought-provoking RPs I've ever had with an IPC. It was a good time, and the second I saw this app, I knew I had to give it my commendation, because we need more interesting IPCs in the command line-up.

Royale is a neat character, it's nice to see the Golden Deep get some more representation. And I think you do a stellar job at playing them in the HoP position, I particularly enjoyed the performance evaluations you did with each member of Cargo alongside the Quartermaster.

Chunky +1 from me.

Played with his Head of Personnel not too long ago. An issue came up and he involved my character (An NT Liaison) and worked with the head of the department and myself to resolve it. Involving as many people as possible and handling a situation with all relevant people that you can instead of doing it yourself is incredible, and of course the way they handled it in the end was a satisfying conclusion. Would love more interactions, +1

Unsure if this is allowed, but I just wanted to go out of my way and comment again that Styx has been doing an excellent job as HoP. He frequently involves my character the QM in matters that I have knowledge of and truly utilizes everything in their disposal when playing head. Simply fantastic. +1 AGAIN.

I have spectated them for a few times and while I generally dislike it when people elevate their characters to command roles after a (relatively) short time I can understand why it's being done. It's also not criteria to the application. From what I saw RyverStyx plays command very decently and got a firm grip on the whole thing. He wrote that he has command experience from other HRP servers and it shows. I don't think there is a reason for him to not pass his trial.
