Revert/Re-sprite the Advanced (CE) Hardsuit Sprite

Hello,

I'm just writing to formally request the CE hardsuit to be reverted or edited (or reverted until edited?) given the overall appeal of the suit, which seems to rank consistently the lowest out of any of the reworked hardsuits of anyone whom I've asked. I don't mean to be overly harsh and be destructive in feedback, please don't take it as such, but I am honest when I say I have yet to hear anyone who plays Engineering/Chief Engineer say it is a positive change, design-wise. I'm not very well connected to the community however, so this may not encompass everyone's opinion.

The most common descriptor I could get is that it's lacking in detail/generic, feels washed out/ugly colour and that it's too similar to the regular suit that Engineering has available.

I'm fully aware that the sprite changes are meant to move Aurora away from "dead space" suits, and that this is a matter of taste more than anything, but I'd kindly like to ask for the hardsuit to be reverted to the old version until an alternative becomes available. The others are perfectly fine, and I'm willing to add or organise a poll if this seems like a "all of my echo chamber friends think it's bad" kind of post.

Again, a matter of taste, but personally I'd suggest the hardsuit to be resprited similar to the old one, at least in colour if not in design.

I'm in favor of this. I think the CE hardsuit looks too similar to the regular engineering voidsuit for my tastes. Plus, I was always a fan of the Dead Space aesthetic. +1

I really dislike the dead space aesthetic, but agree that the new sprite could do with a little 'something' to spice it up visually.

What made the original work was not that it was just Dead Space but in SS13, but that it was designed with a more "industrial" feel to it. This current one has that "everything is an Apple product in the future" aesthetic, but yellow, which across all sci-fi media, just doesn't feel very interesting. Plus, it hardly feels appropriate for a suit used for engineering to focus more on style than on actual practicality. The original looks purpose-built to fix stuff in any environment. This current one looks like in-universe marketing material to attract 20-somethings with expensive engineering degrees from Ceres University to working on this deathtrap of a station.

Edit: No, this isn't insinuating that I just want the Dead Space sprite back. There's definitely something interesting that can be done with it that doesn't rip off RIGs or look like a yellower Apple product.

Let's please avoid going back to the old sprite that served as little but encouragement for people to break immersion by referencing RIGs every other mention of it. The new sprite has a fantastic helmet incorporating visual elements of hard hats, and the cleanest bodily redesign of those four resprited hardsuits. If it truly needs an alteration, paint it white, the silvery-white was the only good part of the old design with how it spoke 'Foreman' akin to a white hard-hat.

I agree that we need to go to a more industrial and less 'smooth surfaces' aesthetic, at least for Engineering and Cargo. Leave the smooth and sleek to the nerds in science and the bricks in Security. The ol' Silver CE should come back to, much more identifiable than "slightly different yellow/orange" as we have now.

Trutfhully, I would be up for re-spriting both the advanced and normal engineering hard suits, it's always been a bit immersion breaking for me to see deadspace just walking around.

i'm pretty indifferent to either sprites, it's just a suit in my mind, but i think going for a more rugged aesthetic for the EVA and CE suit would be cool. i found some code for belt-worn hardsuits and the current CE one looks good to keep in for a more generic "basic" hardsuit that's basically just a piece of paper against the void of space

 

if we want to maintain the sleek look, this could be inspiration

actually now that i look at it that looks like a bomb-ass hardsuit item i want to steal it
