Nanako Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 (edited) Let me ask something. Why do people think secret is specifically for antags, and antags only? Where does it say that secret is just an antag selector? No where. Secret is for secretly picking the gamemode. If you want to tell people to vote extended if they want extended, vote for antags if you want antags with no chance for extended. I thought i answered this earlier but just to clarify, seven of the eight possible results for secrets are antags. The one which doesn't have an antag is an anomaly. You seem to be trying to divorce the concept of gamemode and antagonist. Did you miss that most gamemodes are actually named after the antag they contain? Changeling, cult, vampire, etc. Gamemodes do very little aside from selecting which antag the round will have, As far as i'm aware revolution is the only one that can select a protagonist, or indeed select anything at all besides an antag. LordFowl Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Nowhere does it say that secret is for antags, but nowhere does it say it's not. This is unimportant; the meta has evolved to make voting secret a vote of confidence for an antagonist round, and railing at this metadevelopment avails nothing. As a staunch right-wing anti-extendist, I have to agree that secret should be a mechanical vote of confidence. Voting for a specific antag mode is rubbish, and having to risk an extended is equally so. Ultimately, the concept proposed here is quite simple; if people want extended then let them vote for it. If people want a metagame-free antag round, then let them vote secret. If no one ever votes for extended, then that means no one wants to play it.
Guest Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Yet if there's a battle for cult and people would rather vote secret, why have cult in the secret rotation? Secret has always been "You get a chance that it's one of these game modes, work with it". I think we should just deal with it?
Lucychan42 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Even I tire of the constant antags when I'm on and I want a extended sometimes, but I have to take a side on this. If people voted for secret, they aren't wanting extended. That's why people vote extended if that's what they want, and it's hopeless to try and convince everyone "hey, I want this specific antag". So it's mutually agreed you vote for secret, which is intended to be a random antagonist that nobody can predict. There shouldn't be a secret extended because, well, what everyone's been saying. It's hard to contribute to an argument when it's back and forth of the same few points like a verbal tug of war. Nikov summed it up very well, and it wasn't until his post that I adamantly stood beside what he said. If it doesn't change, then it's no matter to me because I do enjoy extended, but I feel the point has been well made in favor of the original desire by now.
SierraKomodo Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 After reading Nikov's post, and skimming a few other posts, I'd like to propose an alternative to removing extended from secret - Add another option labelled 'Secret Antags' or something. People that want secret with a chance of extended will vote Secret. People that want antags but don't care which mode or want the 'thrill' or not knowing which type of antags will vote Secret Antags.
Nikov Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 It's funny, because if you ask me, its already "secret antags". They just forgot to write "antags", and someone rolled extended into it. I'm fine with that, Sierra, but if in three or four days the votes are split SecretAntag/Extended, as I really predict they will be, then I hope the point will be demonstrated and we can simply enact the original proposal.
CakeIsOssim Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Secret extended is fine to me. Do we really need a mandatory traitor every round, can't we all just roleplay normal employees on a normal station we are working at?  at peak times, sure. During lower population rounds, it starts bringing up odd questions. Why do we need such a large security force, if everyone just does their jobs and acts properly. Why do we need specialist EMTs, surgeons, and chemists, when one doctor with shipped-in medkits and a scanner bed can fill everyone's medical needs quite well. Why do we need an engineering team, when one man can setup the engine and go to sleep for the rest of the shift. a round falls into sameness and boredom without some source of conflict to generate problems for people to solve, and work for them to do  There are canon threats and dangers to the station which require both security and engineering to deal with, and medical if either of them are injured in the process. That's just the surface of why those departments exist. They don't exist solely to deal with whatever antag there might be aboard. Internal security secures station assets (above all else) and ensures people aren't fucking around. Engineering maintains the station integrity during things like meteor showers, which happen often considering the location of the station. Medical exists because workplace accidents are likely when you take into account the machinery that departments like engineering and research use. Might I also add, if you're preparing for shit to go down, you should be doing that all that time instead of just on secret. I would wager that not doing that is metagaming. I think someone already covered this, though, so I'll move on. If you're preparing for antagonists OOC, and you're ready to have some fun with the people who were selected to make shit go down, and nothing goes down? Well, things aren't always going to go your way. Playing a role is neither 100% chairp and 100% action-packed movie scenes. You have to find the balance. All in all, I'm opposed.
rrrrrr Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I think this is, what, the fourth thread wanting to remove Extended from Secret? You know what they all have in common? They've never happened. People whine about extended, but people whine about nuke, cult, rev, people while whine about whatever gamemode, no matter what it is. I don't like Nuclear. Should I go on ahead and make a thread to remove Nuclear from Secret because me and X amount of people don't like it? I just want to give a friendly reminder to everyone to disregard every single word this man writes because he honestly wants to treat SS13 as some kind of space office simulator. Before Jboy replies saying "guhuhu what just because i like extended????", I will clarify that he has posted that he doesn't thing conflict is a good thing. I am for the removal of extended from secret.
Nikov Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I feel like I already addressed CakeIsOssim's concerns.
Zundy Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Either remove secret from extended or create a new mode as sierra says called "secret antag" or some such which rolls all antag modes (all.antag.modes) into it.
Arrow768 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 As someone predicted at the start: This thing is still going on. So can we just make a vote out of it ? I suggest the following options: * Dont change anything (my preferred option) * Add a new mode called secret antag and leave secret as is (I could also go with that) * Remove extendet from secret This vote shall be held on non-nt voting machines If you read the news you should get this one
Skull132 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Y'know what, fuck it. Let's see where this gravy train goes. I'll discuss this with the admins, and fix up two of the antag modes, as running antags only secret without functional auto-tater and nuke is butts. Specifically next week. And then we'll run a vote on which of the three options to go with.
