Butterrobber202 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 You put that -1 away. Anyways, so in the few rounds I've been playing on Aurora, I've noticed the crew constantly joke about death. And when I mention this they just say, 'We have cloning tech, it's fine'. So my suggestion is to modify the lore and make cloning a lot more difficult and costly, to the point where NT only permits Command and other important staff be cloned. (IAA Agents and the like) To help add a layer of seriousness when you take someone's life or a workplace accident claims their life. 'OH NO BOB MCBALDIE DIED HE WAS MY BEST FRIEND!' Bob walks out of the medical bay 2 minutes later. 'Oh cool, your tragic photon fire death doesn't matter anymore Bob, welcome back!' Re growing an entire full grown Human body from scratch in like 3 minutes should not be possible, referring to the natural period of Huamn reproduction and pregnancy. And it should not just happen without any real cost being exchanged. So, in detail, this suggestion would make cloning command staff only, somehow increase the in game cost of cloning, and just make the crew act like death is still a very real threat on the Station ICly. ( Not actually my original idea, but I forgot who planted it in my Brain ) ( sowwy for the shitty suggestion )
Scheveningen Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 no. We've had this discussion a hundred times and this is not going to change until comprehensive code work is done for it.
Synnono Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 A lot of things should not be possible. We're sci-fantasy, deal with it Keeping players out of the round who want to be in the round is not ideal. I would very much not like to see this change made.
UnknownMurder Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 'OH NO BOB MCBALDIE DIED HE WAS MY BEST FRIEND!' Bob walks out of the medical bay 2 minutes later. 'Oh cool, your tragic photon fire death doesn't matter anymore Bob, welcome back!' While I understand that this behavior has been frequent and I have seen it couple of times, but this suggestion wouldn't be the right action to handle the behavior problems. Deaths are meaningless when we have active and operational cloning technology. I'd love to see different suggestions to rectify this issue. Don't let Delta's exaggeration and this suggestion of flaws to let you down and give up from suggesting ways to deal with this issue. We need many people to suggest things like it was 2015.
AllyBearsley Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I don't think removing cloning as an option for non-Command crew members would be good, in anyway at all. I do think cloning is kind of a cheap "get out of death free" card, and sometimes I think cloning is just fine. Especially for people who expect to go AFK for just a minute, get caught up in something for a while, and then get back to find out they were space bear'd. I'm am actually strongly against the removal of cloning in any way, but I believe there should be strong incentives to not die or abuse the cloning system. More than just some people saying, "RP better." Maybe having a persistent bank account and make cloning cost a lot of money. Maybe have cloning give your character a random negative that the person must RP out for a duration. I'm not saying blindness or losing the ability to use limbs, I'm talking more like a message saying "You forget everything about the first person you dated and that bothers you." Maybe little stuff like that. I don't really know what will work, or if this even is a problem that can really be fixed.
Lohikar Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I don't think this is the way to go about making death more meaningful. Cloning mainly exists as a method of allowing people to re-enter play after being killed, and there's currently no alternative. Voting for dismissal.
Arrow768 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I think this suggestion is redundant as we have this topic already ? https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=7891
Ricky_the_banshee Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Minimize the usage an essential part of medbay that allows for the return of dead players by excluding it to the small minority of people that are rarely present or have other things to do? Like the CMOs that are barely available? The Command staff with little to no experience on the medical field?
Arrow768 Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 No response from OP within a week. Voting for dismissal as this suggestion is redundant
