Character Feedback Thread

I remember, as a captain, when Daniella Baranova sent me a psychological evaluation of a certain AI that was concerned about the nature and health of the stuffed toy monkey.

Dear god, I don't remember laughing/crying so hard in my life. It was beautiful.

I'm pretty sure that was Empress.

Tehehehe... that's hilarious, but definitely not EmPrESS.

Whisper Unity - Honestly, I was skeptical when she first caught my attention - I mean, she'd accomplished that via her odd manner of speech, and I was bracing myself for another character centered around their tragic past, demanding pity.

I couldn't have been more wrong; Unity is a great character, the kind that has believable personality and manages to be entertaining through it - that is, in a human, relatable way. I'm not sure if I'm getting my point across; she seems like a person, not a character out of TV show, even when you take her 'twin' into the account. Looking forward to seeing more of her.

Samantha Mason - I think I've commented on Sam way too many times already, but... oh well, I suppose I can expand.

She appears to have truly matured since I first saw her, and definitely for the better - as in, she's grown into a fine, responsible and yet sweet and amusing woman, and appears to be developing her character over time, where other characters appear to be wearing themselves out. Also, in case I forgot to explicitly appreciate it when it was taking place; her dealing with her speech impediment is great, and the time when she was 'discovering hearing' was...just...d'aw.

EmPrESS - My, I haven't seen EmPrESS in a long time! She was always my most beloved AI; incredibly quick to respond, helpful, reasonable (thanks for letting me bury Leon the Mouse Cop!) and even kind and amusing without ever ceasing to strike you as an artificial intelligence. I cannot stress that enough; while many AIs can be fun to play with, they usually do so in a way that doesn't entirely go along with the idea of being, in fact, a computer. They usually resort to the typical silliness of 'machines misinterpret/don't comprehend humans/sarcasm/take whatever too literally' - EmPrESS can achieve the same, if not better results without making an idiot out of itself.

Uaekis Dicklizard - I was quite curious about Uaekis when I was presented with his backstory. While fairly snowflakey, the fact that it wasn't there just to make the character cool and tragic, but that you were actually trying to work with it, create a conflict within him and so bring forth questions about the actual value of our cultural heritages, as well as spread the lizard lore (very few aliens are played in a way that would really make you feel the difference between their and our culture) - all that made me really appreciate him. At first.

It appears to me this most interesting concept had been abandoned soon and not as much as a trace remains.

What is left, though, is a character that appears to be absolutely certain that they are the main protagonist of Aurora. I cannot tell whether that makes him a brilliant unlikeable character, or just a bad character, but hell, my shrinks will get him fired.

I hear Houssam is a good and interesting character introducing new shenanigans to Aurora, but damn - I remember this one time I needed to contact CentComm in order to save a life, and he was like 'Meh, I don't wanna. Do it yourself.'

Coughbloodyxenocough.

Edit: Vittorio - I'm sorry, but there's brilliant unlikeable characters, and there's characters that cannot hold their department together.

Vittorio is in the other group, plus he swears a lot about it.

Perhaps try to hold him back a bit, if that's intentional? Being a dick to your subordinates is one thing; having them arrested for telling somebody in which locker Essel is hiding, that's just ridiculous. (that was ultimately what determined my opinion of him: that was not believable. And not believable means bad RP)

Phoebe Essel - Phoebe, eh - well, you know. She's special.

While you may be taking it a bit too far at times (similarly to what Lockie does - yelling constantly until everybody recognizes her as the center of events), Essel is mighty interesting character that appears to have quite a lot to her. Too damn bad I'll never know what that 'lot' is, as she appears to have never even considered responding to my characters' attempts at reaching out to her.

But, it seems to me that beneath her silence, she actually has a lot of beliefs and convictions and is capable of acting them out, and even most of her moods seem to be well thought-through - or at least to make sense, if that's not deliberate. Either way, good job. Hard to admit as it is, I've grown very fond of your character, even fascinated with her.

(may or may not be worth mentioning: her usual remotedness makes her rare nice gestures seem genuine and hence makes them incredibly powerful, in contrast to the rest of the crew, that hugs the crap out of everybody on sight)

Anybody got any thoughts on Daniela Baranova and Andrew Stockstill - individually, or in comparison to one another?

They were meant to be polar opposites, convictions-wise.

P.S.

That was SeREnE. And, fyi, by waving that off as merely amusing, you've missed your invitation into one of the most complex sidestories I've seen on Aurora .P

Sure, I'll throw my hat in the ring. I'm curious as to what people think of my characters, Wesley Jesse and Squeaky/Doc Mouse.

Re: Wesley Jesse

30 year old, male Chemist.

Puts me on edge whenever I order my meds from him.

Make him like, 31, or 29, or 30.5. But 30. 30 is too real. Too close to the heart, you know. Or give him more flavor text. That would be cool too.

Re: Ana Issek

I heckle you too much in LOOC anyways, so I'm kinda out of criticisms. But, that picture is adorable.

I'd be interested to know what people think about the only character I've played consistently, which of course is Eliot Clef.

Regarding my own feedback - Isilithai Uaekis: I always have extremely mixed feelings on him both in-character and out-of-character. I actually really enjoy being around the character, but my character really really doesn't.

The main thing that bothers me about him is that he escalates situations really rapidly and violently as soon as he gets the chance to. Sometimes this is amazing and wonderful culminating in amazing hostage rescues using clever planning, other times it's a real slaughterhouse on one side or the other.

All-in-all, while I'm critical of him, I'd be sad not to see him around anymore.

Hmm. Not the best at roleplay and I know one of my main chars hasn't been seen on station in a long time. But opinions on the Macnaughton Brothers please?

Sam Macnaughton - Security Officer - (My opinion of my chars) - Bit of a dick at times, especially if you are being stupid, but generally tends to try to be polite, at least in the face of the public.

Steven Macnaughton - Chief Engineer/ERT - Again a bit of a dick at times, but tries to work with his department and lead by example, generally won't tell you to do something unless he is willing to do it himself (If he can.)

Emma Godwood, Id like to hear what y'all think of her

She's ok. I don't remember any bad experiences with her, and she seems to be a decent administrator.
