Here are the major problems at the moment. /datum/seed/ambrosia name = "ambrosia" seed_name = "ambrosia vulgaris" display_name = "ambrosia vulgaris" mutants = list("ambrosiadeus") chems = list("nutriment" = list(1), "space_drugs" = list(1,8), "kelotane" = list(1,8,1), "bicaridine" = list(1,10,1), "toxin" = list(1,10)) kitchen_tag = "ambrosia" Ambrosia is poisonous. Ambrosia would need to be changed to be not toxic in order to be declassified as a dangerous narcotic. Ambrosia also has an overdose limit, or at least, "space_drugs", does.

See you in two days.

Be ashamed of yourself if you use anything other than flamethrowers against blobs.

Yes, you can break those cuffs. With an Unathi whitelist. Capasaicin is short for "popping a cap in some saicin assistants", feel free to prime those canisters just about anywhere, don't even wear a mask. Flashbangs should be treated like actual grenades. As in, they should be used in combat wherever possible. Hoarding ammunition is acceptable if your character is ex-military and has the justification to shoot more people than normally needed.

Wizards can still use spells while stunned, apparently. Not while unconscious, but while stunned, they can still cast spells for some stupid reason.

18 months ago is a pretty long time ago, and it's more than adequate time to show you've changed. I'll have the ban lifted right away. Appeal accepted. Should be able to join as the standard security jobs.

[Denied] Unathi Whitelist 2.0
Scheveningen replied to Ethan Malakay's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Is this a serious application? You didn't even answer the question, you just gave an unserious answer for that question. The backstory is rather lackluster and what detail it has is a bit reminiscent of a hard cliche in particular of Death By Origin Story. It doesn't really go over what hardship the character went through without making certain details about them seem forced and unnatural, there's also an unfortunate lack of depth taking into consideration as to whether the character is remotely up to standard to not just the lore but also a bare minimum of interest that makes people interested in the development of your character. -
[Resolved] Player Complaint: Fai'ra Al-Murkhan
Scheveningen replied to Munks's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
The CE in this round was severely warned for their behavior during the course of the round, and the AI this round was also warned for instigating conflict by being rude and unnecessarily provocative. Since the situation was already handled in the round I'll close this in 24 hours unless the OP or anyone else chimes in to want to push for more action, which is rather unlikely as the CE got the worst case scenario discipline applied. -
The three-point new map security suggestions
Scheveningen replied to Scheveningen's topic in Archive
Tasers are effective enough for greytiders. If you need more than a taser to put down a greytider you need help. Or you need code blue if they are clearly armed and dangerous. If the issue is not for the greytiders then the code should be elevated to blue so officers can get pistols to deal with a greater threat than a greytider. Furthermore, officers taking more than they fathomably need on code red can be dealt with ICly, and if it goes further than that, it is a bwoinkable case if an officer is hoarding multiple weapons and gear for themselves. And potentially job-bannable. Officers are supposed to be competent and not stealing more gear than they need, they are supposed to roleplay properly. Just a note. -
Cooldowns are what balance wizards to permit crewmembers to take shots at them to take them down. Cooldowns create periods of vulnerability that combatants can use to get the upper hand on the person with spells. The fact you can remove these cooldowns from being such a prevalent issue with more point investment is dumb, as it shortens the periods in which a wizard is vulnerable. And that's not balanced when wizards are the most mobile antagonists in the entire game. Upgrading wizard powers, period, is pretty dumb. Mobility spells should be costly to use and using it incorrectly should cause consequences. Unless you're 7 tiles near a space tile you will never teleport into space. Blink is very low risk for high reward. Either give wizards a 30% fizzle chance to spawn on the 6th z-level in the middle of a vacuum or remove their ability to upgrade blink to stop spamming.

[Expired] CashDash123's unban appeal
Scheveningen replied to CashDash123's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Hi, I apologize for not getting around to you, and sorry for the prior hostility, I assumed I would be the first to reply when I woke up. I tried to explain to you that rejoining the round through cryo as the same character without being demoted after being held for HuT was a bad thing. You insisted that this was an IC issue even though it wasn't. Since I believe you ghosted after going to cryo in the communal brig, you would've had to come back to the same round that was going on to have to respawn directly using the verb. It would then tell you in dark blue that "Please rejoin as a different character and roleplay correctly", not verbatim but the exact phrasing of it doesn't matter. You didn't really understand it when I explained it, so I ended up at the conclusion that you probably couldn't be told to understand it. In those situations we end up having to take action regardless, especially what with your track record. Since I was moderator observing, btw, you did play most of the round before getting brigged and demoted for whatever reason. You would not have been registered in the brig's cryogenic storage computer otherwise, as both the public one and the brig's cryogenic computer track their stored characters separately from one another. A mistake I made was not writing in the ban that you had consistent history in not quite understanding either the intended spirit or the written descriptions of the rules. I should have done that, but nothing I can do in this case beyond assuring that I'll apply more context in ban notes in the future. Another issue is that you've had some issues comprehending not only the written rules regarding what constitutes as proper roleplaying but you've also had problems conducting yourself as a good OOC player. Not specifically attitude like most other people who get in trouble for that reason do, but you tend to make more of the same pitfalls over and over. And since pitfalls are bad to fall into after you had a perma appealed already, I would really suggest you take an hour or so out of your day and read the rules if you care enough to want to play here, and ask questions consistently over what you can and can't do according to our rules. I think this ban should stick, though, not only to give you a bit of time to understand what you did wrong but also to take some time to read the rules and maybe join our discord to ask general questions. Staff would be more than happy to help. -
[Resolved]Character Complaint: Ethan Malakay
Scheveningen replied to ariever's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
All characters must maintain a certain level of competence to be at least able to do their job without either breaking the law or messing it up. Ethan Malakay is one of those characters and the person that plays them constantly defends their honestly rather ridiculous levels of incompetency and inappropriateness in IC. This was notable in the case where I noticed the other day that he repaired a Death RIPLEY that spawned in the warehouse. I checked his skills, and... Well, do note the character is 19 years old. He was then told to change them. Whether he actually understood or not, I wasn't present for the end of the conversation, because we've had to speak to this person for a few times now to not only read all of the rules on proper character creation but also roleplaying properly, too. Either AcidMind needs to improve his attitude and start creating acceptably balanced characters or CCIAA is likely to be the last concerned party in mind to handle this issue. -
The three-point new map security suggestions
Scheveningen replied to Scheveningen's topic in Archive
I've made do without them when greedy officers take them without announcing such. As well as, for instance, all of the ammunition for themselves. They have taser guns, stun batons, pepperspray grenades (why that specifically i've no idea, they are more potent than flashbangs), flashbangs, flashes, pepperspray cans, etc. On top of all of the other code green equipment they get, in my opinion the .45 pistol is really excessive in code green. Up to the warden if they want to dispense the pistols, but other than that they can bug command to raise the code level, and every head of staff can do it just by going to their office to raise it through their own console. -
You understand this still gives off the same vibes, correct? I highly suggest you review it and make changes as necessary.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - Delta/Scheveningen
Scheveningen replied to CommanderXor's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I don't think Catnip wanted you to make literal separate universe references to WH40K. You must maintain character at ALL TIMES. No suiciding to leave the round (ghost or use cryogenic storage), and no random grief at round end. Avoid chucklefucking. (Check the glossary for a definition.) Do not break the atmosphere of the game. Also known as "breaking immersion". For example, using slang terms for antagonists IC "traitor", "rev", "syndie", "wizard", "changeling", etc. Use of OOC game slang IC, "robust", "shitcurity", "emag", "esword". Pop culture references are a no. Again, it is you and your team's fault for fumbling and getting absolutely nothing done beyond everyone on the merc team dying anticlimactically and you all hold the responsibility of trying to rush things to the point where an emergency shuttle was called before the 2 hour mark. Not anyone else's. I don't care if you're upset about my attitude towards you. I took those stances as the series of bad judgements you made in worse faith than anyone else could've carried out in your position. You broke roleplay for the worst reasons and I'm not going to sugarcoat it when someone has clearly done something that was juvenile and very clearly against the rules. That was the past. Here is now. If you feel I have been aggressive, then that really sucks. But: you are vitriolic and you always fly off the handle the moment you get remotely upset. You use vulgarities on a whim, you are extremely defensive regarding criticism. You demonize those you find fault in and do not relent even when told to dial back. The moment anyone says anything about you in response to your immature tendencies you call them edgy and dismiss their criticism. The worst I have done is called you out for acting unjustifiably terrible to people, and applied a temporary security ban for validhunting. Quote unquote, "Collateral damage is never acceptable as security." I'm fully capable of doing worse, but that would not be appropriate, as I believe some people deserve plenty of chances if they are intent on sticking around in the community. I am not saying it is by my will alone that you stay, but if I was really out for you, I think I would've done worse by now besides doing absolutely nothing when you had a fit when I said that another character was justified in killing your character in a round that was already doomed to end badly given how your merc team was coordinating. You still have chances left in my book to improve your attitude. I wouldn't be taking the time to answer this complaint if I felt communicating with you was a waste of time. -
If your character has studied the country's history he would be much more cautious about wearing a beret of his home country romanticizing about his country's independence, because that would still give off vibes of IRA support, as in the modern day that is a current issue to support a terrorist organization that currently still uses the same language to push their agenda violently.

This suggestion should be considered after all other new map concerns are moved out of the way. 1.) Armory access by code level: Under code green, only the head of security and warden may enter the general armory and the secure armory. The general armory is where minor equipment, tools, heavy vests and the sidearms are stored. Under code blue, the access to the general armory changes and any officer may procure a sidearm, the minor equipment or the heavy vests. Under code red, any officer may enter the secure armory for arms and armor. Cadets and detectives must be delegated arms by the brig warden to their own discretion. 2.) Officers should not have sidearms issued to them roundstart: Under code green circumstances where it's an all-clear scenario, security officers are not expected to have to use .45 pistols (even with rubber ammunition) to deal with security issues. If the situation gets nasty the code should be raised to blue or the warden should dole out the proper equipment to handle a situation. But other than that, .45 pistols create more issues than they solve to be freely given at the start of the round. They should thus be moved to the general armory. 3.) Changes to the .45 pistol + Pistol magazine size buffed to 12 rounds from 7. + New sprite + sound effects, both of which I have. + Integral suppressor makes the weapon harder to hear being discharged, particularly to avoid disturbing workplaces. Quieter, harder to hear and distinguish. + Lethal bullet damage increased to 30, rubber rounds inherent damage increased up by 5, agony by 10. + The custom .45 pistol will have a combined module attachment. Modifies accuracy by a single integer, making it slightly more accurate, but harder to handle, so screen_shake will be 2 to match. The standard .45 pistol has 1 screen_shake, but standard accuracy. Easier to control but only effective at closer ranges. + The ammunition of any caliber barring training rounds are caseless. Welcome to the future with no litter. = Should look into armor_penetration and seeing if a reverse work-around can be found to make the weapon even less effective against armor with significant bullet resistance. = .45 magazines are globally changed to 12 rounds. - Significant fire delay given it is designed like a low caliber magnum. - Inherent recoil effect increased. This is represented by the screen_shake modifier. - The integral suppressor does not feature decreased visible gunshot transmission, meaning messages will be shown who is firing the gun and the animation for the gunshot effect will still be shown. - Less .45 magazines will be found in tactical vendors in the world. - It takes 35% more resources to print any .45 magazine caliber from an autolathe. - Less .45 magazines are found in their respective ammunition crates. - Only 4 .45 magazines of each ammunition type will be found in the secure armory, one for each officer. In essence, the .45 becomes a more useful sidearm to have on your person and it's worth carrying, but the sidearm still has its own limitations in that it is still a sidearm, and not a primary weapon. I'll shoot some of the suggestions for 3 over to Alberyk to do himself. 2 and 1 should be considered by the mappers if they want to make 3 work.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - Delta/Scheveningen
Scheveningen replied to CommanderXor's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
So you're telling me, if I have a background with something similar to his, I would be allowed to break the validhunting rules and chase down an antag? Because that is what he did, hear me out. You tell me he stumbled upon me accidentally. The first time, yes. I can agree that really wasn't valid hunting since he arrived on the scene and was startled. But the second time was purely out to kill me. He flanked around through a tunnel to appear at my back, and as you can see by logs, he came up behind me and tried to kill me. This was when he threw away his weapon and was unarmed, besides a plasma cutter. The first time was okay, the second time, where he threw away any sense of believability just to charge head long in from behind to try and kill the antag. That second time, is validhunting. I'd like to also bring up the fact that Delta is getting more and more rude to people. In previous threads he has gone so far as been passive aggressive, like the Hunter thread where he decided to post a 'meme' picture, in what looked like a attempt to ridicule him. Then there is passive aggressive stuff ingame, like this, that was over a joke. I should note that comment was made in response to you and Incog repeatedly making the joke that my character was a trap. You personally went so far as to refer my character as if they were a "he" in IC. It was more obnoxious and immature than it was funny and I suggested you get a grip rather than letting your "jokes" seep into IC, as the joke made was inappropriate and not humorous in the slightest. That comment was also made in an entirely different round from the one this complaint is being made. Thanks for taking that out of context entirely, I see you're definitely trying to display me in a very honest light. Also, I was asked to not post those lines of "meme pictures" in complaints from now on and I have abided by that. It also is completely irrelevant to the current issue, even in the matter of unprofessionalism because I still have not done anything along those lines since it happened. Do you honestly think that has any bearing on the complaint as it stands, though? You're just looking for reasons to make me look guilty when I literally did nothing that was wrong to begin with. The CE had adequate reasons beyond having a military background to shoot you dead. The sec team was incapacitated. They weren't even seeking you out to begin with and were following the lead of the head of security to kill you, which means they were asked to take up arms to help. So you got shot for being in one of the most centralized places in the station and you were a literal sitting duck to be taken out and neutralized. The fact you got killed was in fact, your fault, for many issues, the below three being the most prominent. 1.) Your team was identified as the terroristic element that took two officers out of commission in cargo. 2.) You taunted the station over comms making rather obvious WH40K references. I wanted to talk to you about that but another admin told me not to, then they went afk so nobody handled that issue. More added reason for the crew to want to kill you. 3.) You tunnelvisioned so hard to kill the Chief engineer when there was the hos right behind you shooting you with a gun while you were angrily chainswording the CE because you were pissed at them for "validhunting", apparently. You literally did nothing to interact with the crew for an hour and a half until you actually boarded the station as a mercenary and then got shot. You getting killed by the chief engineer and the head of security was the only notable thing you did the entire round, as you were more occupied with complaining about validhunting for the entire course of the round leading up to those events. AOOC logs can prove this. You've no idea how much biting irony there is here. -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Irish_Republican_Army https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuity_Irish_Republican_Army https://www.state.gov/j/ct/rls/other/des/123085.htm The RIRA is a terrorist organization, declared as such by the US government, and the UK, the former being a world superpower with one of the most extensive intelligence agencies in the world and the latter being a direct first-person source in regards to anything regarding the RIRA and the CIRA. The CIRA is also another offshoot that, not surprisingly, is also designated as a terrorist organization. Always double-check sources. If this is fine by you then I'm going to apply for a Nazi swastika armband for one of my one-off characters. If it furthers roleplay regardless of its inherent offensiveness and historical significance of Aryan supremacy and wishing death on anyone who gets in the way of the agenda then you cannot complain about it whatsoever, because my character will be a logical eugenicist. If anyone gets offended they can shut the heck up and get over it, they'll have to deal with my character's inherent Nazism in-game. See how utterly stupid it sounds? Appealing to logic for an inherently negative cause is called playing the Devil's advocate and it should not be reasonably actionable, nor should it be seriously considered beyond hypothetical discussion or debate. Wearing a symbol that is the centerpiece of a lot of death and criminal seediness will only earn you points in the edginess department, but it is no more sensible to wear to work than a swastika armband. Not to mention: What if someone comes onto the server one day and they just so happen to be a close victim (either direct or by proxy) of the IRA's terrorist acts, and they see that character wearing an IRA beret? They won't just be ICly upset, but OOCly as well. That will cause issues. Offensive custom items should be a clear no-go. And I doubt any of the spriters here want to be responsible for unironically generating pixelart of an IRA beret, nor have that as part of their past works. NT would never allow it in the first place.

My old workplaces probably wouldn't permit it if I brought an identifiable article of clothing that was iconic enough to be identified as a symbol of a domestic terror organization. It would make my employers look bad for permitting me to exercise freedom of speech to that degree, especially since it implies they support my right to support old organizations that killed, tortured and car bombed civilians to further their own agenda. ATLAS is barely passable because they don't openly curbstomp Tajarans to the pavement.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - Delta/Scheveningen
Scheveningen replied to CommanderXor's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I'm going to counter that by quoting a statement I've been given by Garnascus in the past: Probably taken directly out of context. The conversation that it was undertaken in did not take into consideration that there are situations that would mandate a person's revival, e.g., if being subject to grief. -
Back to the modern age of blowing stuff up and committing radical terrorism to a parent country, over 442 years ago?

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - Delta/Scheveningen
Scheveningen replied to CommanderXor's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
The worst thing someone can do when they're being attacked by a griefer is to fight back. This makes a very obvious OOC issue into an IC one as it makes it more difficult for staff members to properly discern whether the conflict was a result of RP or completely random, and we're fully capable in this circumstance of reverting any damage dealt so the round can proceed as normal without grief. And for instance, in the case of you complaining about validhunting and proclaiming the CE was out to get you for valids (in spite of the fact that an evaluation of whether the security team's members were up or down wasn't undertaken), you responded by tunneling your vision on the CE to chainsword them after the combat began. They of course died, as the chainsword has 35 brute damage, it breaks bones and doles out internal bleeding. They were effectively dead on the fourth attack, but you attacked them a total of 12 times. The HoS engaged you two minutes prior to the confrontation with both of the heads of staff versus yourself, alone. You didn't put up much of a fight versus the one person dealing out the most damage to you. Not pictured: the 10 other chainswording logs of the chief engineer before the HOS shot you as you were exposed to an attack from behind, whilst angrily chainswording the CE beyond what was really necessary. What did you honestly expect me or any other staff member to do? You retaliated in IC over what was an IC issue, though you insisted you were being validhunted even though your team managed to take out two active security officers and hospitalize both of them. There was already prior escalation for the crew to be justified in being completely hostile to you, because you're on their home turf shooting anything in sight. For a half hour prior to this final fight you and the rest of the antagonists on the mercenary team were complaining about validhunting without bothering to adminhelp once. We're not omniscient. If you don't complain using the proper channels then don't expect us to do anything. Under normal circumstances we don't intervene, and we're certainly not going to go out of our way to punish people just because the antags complained enough in AOOC or Deadchat. It is not how it works. It's not our fault one of your mercenaries got lost in space because they didn't bother to read a guide on how to use a jetpack, not our fault the other mercenaries didn't bother to communicate with their own team, and it is not our fault that the security team does its job to protect the station and the crew by removing terroristic threats from the premises. And if security is disabled, don't be surprised when the crew begins to defend their own home turf. My decision was made as soon as you retaliated against the CE after making the complaint in an adminhelp. You made an hypothetical OOC issue into an IC one by responding to it in an IC fashion. I'm not obligated nor expected to disrupt roleplay events as staff to change the narrative of the round. The philosophy is to keep the round going as organically as possible without unnecessary administrator intervention; provided grief or excessive non-sensical RP breaking happens. -

Scheveningen replied to Bygonehero's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Turtles does not play Astor Shaner. That is Canadiandollar. Regardless, I'm going to speak to a few admins regarding whether this complaint is valid or not.
