Newmap - Open spaces should be made more distinct.
Scheveningen posted a topic in Completed Projects
In the SS13 offshoot Lifeweb which also features multi z-level transitions and such, open spaces indicating a space one or more z-levels below you feature a graphical effect where the tile is significantly much darker, the tile is also animated, with a darken-brighten cycle effect. This makes it more obvious if you have light around you that there is an open space nearby that you could potentially fall into. -
The single body scanner console is extremely decentralized. You have to walk to the other side of the department from either medical entrance, from the main entrance you need to walk approximately three screens over, round about a wall and then walk towards surgery and take a left to a pre-op room, or from the emergency entrance two screens long and downward, round another corner to the left, down, and then left again to an isolated pre-op room. This is an extreme amount of travel time for a room much more isolated from the other subdepartments. The chemistry room has an immense amount of unnecessary room. The tables aren't occupied with more than a couple items, a dropper can be placed on top of a table with a beaker and still look fine. The refrigerated medicine storage is on average six tiles away from the nearest chem dispenser, and it's positioned directly on top of a wall intersection. It looks extremely weird and the only reason you can get chemicals out of it is because you can interact with it diagonally through the table somehow. It looks extremely silly and weird. Cryogenic coolers are locked behind a windowless maintenance room that people are going to mistake for a closet at first glance the moment they join on the server. People are going to overlook this even exists. Cryo is also a major staple of medical operation. It needs to be out there and obvious for people to turn on at the start of the shift and use. And then there's the temporary morgue (why is there even a temporary morgue) and an autopsy lab, which by design seem nice on paper but in practice it appears ghastly, tiny and cramped, it's hard to even guess there's an autopsy lab anywhere near genetics given how closed off it is. Now here's the CMO office. This is on the east-most side of medical, the most infrequented end of medical. The CMO has to walk four screens over from either of the medical entrances and traverse through the least-likely-to-be-walked-through abyss of medical. A head of staff office and its supporting conference room should always be centralized, not completely isolated from the rest of the department. The other head of staff offices also suffer from this.

Certain roboticists need to learn to be patient. There are other things to do to make yourself useful as a roboticist without hijacking another department just to ensure yours has more to do.

It was locked to two slots when I hopped on today, and it was what I was told by itzal as he + garn are the ones who handle the server config file and can adjust it manually. And the least you could do is actually explain why you mapped it that way, because it seems like intentionally bad mapping the way it's cut right now. I assume there was a better reason than, "Yes, I authorized it fully knowing it cripples medical's surgery capacity until the mid-late game when engineering bothers to refurnish it."

Custodians do more than clean. They manage and appraise private property. And in some cases, public property as well. Cemeteries are great examples.

Reducing medical's capability in reliably doing surgery by 50% of its normal rate does not enhance medical roleplay, it either leaves people with broken bones hospitalized and not doing anything for longer, and worst-case scenario it gets people killed because they got the shit end of the stick in not being able to be operated upon due to the lack of another OR being properly sanitary and operational. Dexalin plus is only so good at mitigating lung ruptures for as long as it's in moderate supply. And nothing fixes internal bleeding, not even ODing someone on bicaridine is that reliable anymore. It makes no sense to leave one of only two ORs on the map half-done, bolted and without many of the tools needed to reassemble it to be up to standard to the actually operable one. "It would give engineering something to do" is not a valid excuse considering the rather expansive long list of more important shit-to-do at the beginning of the round for an engineer. Medical funding barely qualifies as remotely close to neglected in the grand scheme of NanoTrasen's priorities, as cloning is extremely expensive. Moreso expensive than surgery. You repaired genetics to be up and running again but you mapped a surgery room to be half done on purpose, Fowl? And seriously? Two doctors only? It is bad enough that certain psych that acts like an actual medical doctor attempted to hijack actual doctors' job before, now they have even more license to do so. Consider: It is extremely likely to get antagged as a non-security role. You bet that a medical doctor will likely be one of those. Now you're down to perhaps one station-loyal doctor. Now let's also consider the frequency of noob pubs hopping into medical. It was quite high before when there were a fair amount of slots for it. That basically rounds down your chances at its base of 20% that you'll get at least one competent non-antagonist doctor. That is unacceptable. The new map is HUGE right now. There is an immense amount of space and its size almost rivals the NSV Torch. There needs to be more medical doctor-oriented slots to be able to cover not only the massive scope and range of the station, but also deal with manpower issues and split the difference in work when things stack up in a tense situation. Two docs during a bloody mercenary round will get overwhelmed extremely quickly. The idea is to not tip the balance in favor of having medical ERTs stocking beakers of rezadone, fixing people en masse because they're better equipped than most medical doctors roundstart, alongside their jarheaded security specialists be called anytime something gets out of hand.

[Denied] Mirk's summarized unban appeal.
Scheveningen replied to mirkoloio's topic in Unban Requests Archive
How to get your ban appeal denied: in one sentence followed by two small paragraphs that contradict the first sentence. If you pick what arguments you want to address rather than answering honestly to the inquiries of other related parties then don't be surprised when those same people don't want to give you another chance. -
no. We've had this discussion a hundred times and this is not going to change until comprehensive code work is done for it.

LOL. I have a reddit. I'm gonna make a post about how much of a fool you are to deny me this. And everyone who matters is gonna see it.

Give CMOs maint, external airlock access
Scheveningen replied to ForgottenTraveller's topic in Completed Projects
Should check if the RD and HoP (not that it matters given the possibility for immediate promotion but it would be good either way) have maintenance access to, if they don't, it should be corrected for consistency's sake. -

Can I have a mouse whitelist? As in, exclusive rights to be the only person to play mouse on the server. I'm well-known among the community as perhaps, no in fact, with an absolute certainty, that I'm the best individual in the community. Not just roleplayer or cool gamer, I'm just a better person than literally anyone else here on the server and my interactions with other individuals just downright show it. I am ALWAYS politically correct, in that all of my opinions are facts and literally no one can dispute my rhetoric because I am never wrong. I have studied these subjects from the safety of my basement so I know what culture is like without actually having to go outside to experience it. I can make sweeping judgments of groups of people without an inkling of empathy for other people because I am enlightened by my own gathered internet basement intelligence and knowledge base. Trust me, I edit for Wikipedia and I'm a veteran of 224 long edit wars. The scars still remain on my psyche but I am definitely stronger and more mentally and socially secure for it. Insecurity is a joke to me. Like I said, I have no flaws. Oh wait, I didn't? Okay, like I said, I have no flaws. Furthermore, look at this, it's my OC mouse character: I base this amazing character's interactions off of a certain community member but I won't say who. Regardless, this character is extremely well-liked on the server but has gone without significant notice, however, my other characters can attest for having interacted with this stellar example of character design in IC. Don't ask how it is possible, it just is. And if there's ever any doubt: i'm a better mouse player than you

[Denied] Mirk's summarized unban appeal.
Scheveningen replied to mirkoloio's topic in Unban Requests Archive
We've given you what, two, three chances? Three permabans on record. The third chance was very generous. You broke a rule that you've had to be spoken to about REPEATEDLY to stop. Why do you deserve a fourth chance? Because your typical track record is that you get unbanned, you behave for a week and then you start acting like a chucklefuck again. Why should we bother in taking that risk again? -
You posted Shadman. I don't mean to be rude, but where on this fucking planet is that even remotely appropriate to post anywhere? Did you not put two neurons together to think on whether posting it would be a bad idea and would get administrative backlash? Had you even read the rules before posting that? I'm definitely going to say Tishina was in the right here for warning you. The wording of it isn't wrong either. That's just embarrassing for you to even post it on any public area on the server. Equally justified to get such a warning on the incident. Actions have consequences. I wouldn't have given you room to stand on after posting hiloli fucking clitton.
-
Hi, I'll be handling your appeal. These are your current notes at the moment. As of approximately over a span of a week you've gotten yourself into a fair bit of trouble with staff on-server for actions you've taken in the rounds that frankly kinda go a bit over the line of what we're able to treat as newbie mistakes. Mess up enough, either from a frequency or severity point of view and we're less and less likely to give someone lenience for their mistakes or misjudgements. An issue at the moment is you really cannot expect much from us for applying a permaban after your previous ban just wearing off and having done something that we had asked you to ahelp about before taking the action. It might seem a bit asinine to have to require permission before doing it but it's the unfortunate result of what occurs when random suicide is a problem, especially as it is difficult to combat. I'm remaining neutral for the moment until ricky has something to say on the matter.

[2 Binned] Doctors spawn with Health Analyzers instead of penlights
Scheveningen replied to cloud's topic in Archive
It actually doesn't detect broken bones or other more complex stuff the standard handheld analyzer does. The UI is also, for whatever reason, completely different from the actual health analyzer item and doesn't have proper coloration for the damage type. -
[2 Binned] Doctors spawn with Health Analyzers instead of penlights
Scheveningen replied to cloud's topic in Archive
penlights should spawn in one of their pockets and the health analyzer on their jacket. good idea. -
It takes a solid minute for a carp to break through a window, a grille and another window to breach into a department with a window view. And by the time you hear or see it you should probably not be in the room. This can be entirely avoided by walking out of view of the space carp, with luck their shit mob pathing makes them try to chase you into a corner of a wall in outer space, and they stop hitting the windows. They drop aggro like MOBA creeps. You can then call security to deal with it using a laser gun.

[2 Binned {16/05/2017}] Removing Tech Storage Access From Robotics
Scheveningen replied to Pacmandevil's topic in Archive
They need tech storage access for the reset AI board. Call security if robotics is stealing spare boards to renovate their lab without prior paperwork or permission. Don't punish all roboticists because you can't use your radio to report an infraction. -
Warning: opinions. I've always treated it as a device that doesn't necessarily force loyalty but it excretes certain chemical solutions in the brain when the chip receives information regarding a complex issue in regards to what to do. A little positive reinforcement here, a pinch there to avoid a not ideal thought process from going through, and a twitch in the facial musculature to signal that the chip did its job in influencing the person in making the right decision for the corporation. Accountability, with a curious science side at the same time. Loyalty implants aren't worthless hunks of metal to just force subservience, to me. They're data storage devices. They record every decision made while the implant was active and made note of any specific algorithmic changes in an implanted person's thinking patterns when confronted with a complex scenario. This helps the company get feedback results and endeavor to improve their current models of implants to be more effective. The implanted persons agreed to be chipped upon signing both the additional forms for non-disclosure and avowal of a certain privacy. It is technically legal if both parties are consenting business figures. Yes and no. It binds them to make the decisions to follow the ideals of the corporation. But it doesn't strip their personhood and most of their positive traits as a person, because otherwise it would make for ineffective leadership when you cannot either relate to a leader or even want to listen to a literal corporate drone. Some cases are more extreme and certain people's emotions are more greatly suppressed than others on purpose to avoid worst-case scenarios. Some chips make people drones, others don't. There's no right answer so people can choose to RP how they wish while implanted. Those who are not as adjusted as those who get one switched on every day before they start a shift, though? Hm. No idea, really. It would require significant fortitude to adjust well to a loyalty implant on your first time. Depends on their arrangement with the corporation. Some are permanently implanted due to the sensitivity of their job. Others get theirs removed or deactivated. Usually removed I would imagine, considering they carry valuable data on their person and it's one of the few reasons why some people don't leak corporate secrets, in my opinion. People just mysteriously forget about sensitive information upon their implant being deactivated, perhaps to avoid employees being kidnapped by competition or to prevent defectors. As for the other two questions, I dunno, really, I can deal with it as of now.

Lore Change: Forensic Tech & Detectives
Scheveningen replied to Icuris's topic in Completed Projects
Boring af to shoehorn them into being forensic lab monkeys. If you have no physical role in detaining people that commit crimes as a completely boring adaptation of a criminal detective then it really just rounds down their function to only interrogating (which security officers or the warden have the right to do anyway) or pretending their forensic work means anything. Assuming forensics ever happens depending on the game mode type. Giving them a badge and ability to detain permits them to work their own security cases that officers don't have the tools to reliably investigate. Reminder that officers are paid less than criminal investigators for a reason, they're mostly just brute force and extra manpower to suppress threats to the workplace at large. They're an assortment of humanoid tools that can be used to solve non-complex problems without needing the head of security or the investigator's absolute focus. Limiting each function in a department to what they can and can't do ends up crippling departments in terms of functionality. Having a maximum of 7-8 people who can deal with any assortment of cases at once is absolutely amazing and the times that I had issues with detectives abusing their arrest authority; they were shit detectives and shit security as a whole anyway. Detectives who do know how to do their job and maximize their efficiency output as an investigator will benefit the department more than make it look bad. Besides, I'm sure officers would like less work load during greytide hours, and it's not the place of officers to bugger about regarding break-ins and more complex crimes where you can't point whodunit the moment it's reported. Forensic techs probably wouldn't have authority to arrest anyone for anything but detectives certainly require that authority as it is part of their theme as a space station noir detective.
