[+1 dismissal]Kiss Marks(in variation, with lipstick)
Scheveningen replied to Fortport's topic in Archive
Issue with that is Poison Ivy has immunity to most forms of natural toxins due to her genetic warping in her backstory. I'm assuming traitors aren't like this, though, otherwise they'd be also immune to toxin damage. If people would be onboard with this, the item needs to come with an antidote that the user themselves needs to take to be immune to it so there's no immersion-shattering issues to consider. -
[Withdrawn] Burger's Developer Application
Scheveningen replied to BurgerBB's topic in Developer Applications Archives
+1. I've gotten equally or more feisty with you in disagreement with how you've done changes for code contributions but they've mostly been a net positive in terms of adding interesting features/expanding existing stuff to emphasize depth and fun. Don't call people disabled because of the disagreements getting out of hand, though, it's ill-fitting of anyone to do, that's my only negative concern right now. Out of curiosity, beyond what's already on the github, what's the next project you had in mind? Could you hash out a listing on what you want to do next, irrespective of whether this application is accepted? -

https://eccentriceclectic.wordpress.com/2014/03/06/kiss-your-problems-away-the-reality-behind-drugged-lipstick/ People usually aren't very conscious of their own behavior. Having to, rather literally, hold your tongue down in the bottom roof of your mouth and never contacting with your lips to avoid poisoning yourself through lip balm is one of those things that not only is a difficult behavior to break, you also look ridiculous doing it because you become physically unable to enunciate properly. Saliva can cause cross-contamination anyway. You'd have to inject yourself with an antidote beforehand to make this any pragmatic or sensible. Pretty sure this is far too gimmicky to be worth putting into the game. -

I'm more weirded out by this than anything. What's the intent here? What's missing that would cause the game to benefit from this being added? -
BYOND Key: Scheveningen Character Names: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/416297405018013707/449769259556667392/unknown.png Blotted out ones are secret. Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): (RGB 0, 35, 115) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to explore being able to build a Vaurca character as an academic pursuer, somewhat unorthodox as to what the majority of Vaurcae tend to fit in the world, but hopefully it'll actually be interesting to develop. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: There's a lot to say on the subject of the Vaurca but I can sum it up as reductive and simply as possible. The Bound are an effective slave-caste that exist to get grungy and dirty and do things that nobody else is actually willing to do by themselves. The Unbound are more flexible characters that each have their own role in society but generally tend to plug into their personal idiot boxes to enjoy life as it was meant to be enjoyed. VR is like mana of the heavens to the bugs. They're incredibly discomforted by light and tend to wear blinders (effectively sunglasses) to compensate how incredibly annoying the light is for them. The Unbound, despite not being enslaved to the will of the Queen, still have an incredible amount of loyalty to their own hive Queens and do as they will to uphold the better interests of their Queen and the hive. There are many hives, each with their own specific nuances of characteristics. The Lii'dra are the bad guys and are the most deceptive yet flexible of the bunch, though they're only played by antagonists. Character Name: Za'Akaix'Rakt C'thur Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Za'Akaix'Rakt is a C'thur envoy dispatched by the high Queen Ta'Akaix'Tyr’kaal’yskt C'thur. Serving the Jargon Federation as a diplomatic agent, Rakt was displaced throughout the many governmental departments of the Qerrbalaki political structure, eventually settling for the longest time serving as a counsellor of Vaurcae affairs to a prestigious Skrellian hyperspatial-anomalist. During this period of time underneath the Skrellian professor's wing, Rakt became the professor's student. As a docile, observant and intelligent member of their race, Rakt quickly picked up the nuances of the curriculum being taught, especially given Rakt's inherent enthusiasm to learn more about this new and exciting extra-dimensional plane that existed not only outside realspace, but also outside bluespace and the virtual reality realm that Rakt part with on bittersweet terms to better serve the interests of his high Queen. To speak with the Qerrbalaki officials, he was temporarily outfitted with an augment to understand and synthetically generate the Skrellian languages, with competent accentuation and understanding of dialect. An accident eventually led to the professor's immediate disappearance. Upon investigation, the Qerrbalaki police department initially fingered the Vaurca as the culprit, but the internal affairs department eventually concluded their own internal investigation and influenced the police force to drop all charges. It would later be revealed to the public that that evidence was found in the professor's lab that indicated a stationary portal prototype was being worked on, and that they detected recent energy discharges within the immediate vicinity around it. The investigation concluded the professor displaced himself through an accident and had to be decided missing or killed in the pursuit of science. Rakt himself was not ever aware of the nature of the portal device and was unable to provide any helpful details pertaining to the accident short of explaining what was told to him about what was already known about hyperspatial clusters, the surrealistic description of the spatial realm and several other nuances that both the police department and the internal affairs structure both handwaved as irrelevant to their interests. A will titled to the professor that disappeared was eventually discovered. Evidently, the professor was lined up for a contractual deal with the mega-corporation NanoTrasen, which to the Jargon Federation, everyone knew the company was attempting to sink its fingers into every pie it could. The professor was evidently offered an incredibly lucrative deal, but in terms of personal motivations, unlocking the secrets of the hyperspatial realm was more important to her. Knowing fully of the risks, the professor signed on with NanoTrasen but also negotiated a clause in the event she would ever disappear or die through an unfortunate proceeding in experiments. The clause dictated that if the professor herself were to disappear, her personal assistant Rakt would be act in her place and be employed as a specialist in her stead. NanoTrasen apparently agreed to this contractual clause. The will also stated that 10% of the professor's recently earned grant would go to Rakt, whereas the rest would be spread throughout her living family in addition to a small sum being recirculated back to a Qerrbalaki charity. With 2000 credits in Rakt's pocket, he would, with his high Queen's blessing, relocate to Mendell City to negotiate contractual details at the local NanoTrasen hiring office. What do you like about this character? As a member of the C'thur hive, Rakt is not only an avid word-smith due to the new Tau Ceti basic vocabulator augmentation he bought for himself, but he is also a very passionate poet, if not a complete braggadocio about it. He wrote three books of poetry during his time staying with the Skrell on Qerrbalak. He did not earn a single credit in royalties due to being exploited in contracting with publishers, but his surrealist writing is apparently enjoyed by some Skrellian elders. Rakt is a fun concept for me because I wish to explore being able to build another academic character for a species that is most commonly valued for physical labor and less so for their brain power. Rakt is mostly going to act as a specialist as an anomalist, with revived interest in extra-spatial travel as the closest thing to an expert on the subject short of his own former mentor. I mostly like this character because I've no idea how this'll turn out. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I've had a lot of experience but I have 'on' days and 'off' days where I'm either at my best or not. Some days I'm incredibly verbose, but other days I'm just on autopilot trying to blow off some steam and chill. Other people can attest for me either being good or terrible at RP. Notes: This will be the final whitelist I'll have unlocked. It's kind of exciting to never need to make another application ever again. I may make another bound character later but I wanted to present my more fleshed out concept first. I hope it doesn't zzzzzzuck.

[Unresolved] Player Complaint - Scheveningen

If you expect me to think this situation is entirely all my fault and not shared childishness on both our parts then we're back to square one where we started. So you honestly think person 2 is doing nothing wrong with their response there? It's almost no better than person 1. You did the same by calling me a downie. We're both hypocrites at this point but I'm waiting on you to admit that you've had your share of spewing vitriol. You're applying for coder alongside this? That's seriously unprofessional, if this is how you choose to treat people you see as "morons." I agree and I made a mistake in regards to the first image. I will endeavor to better explain my reasoning for any distaste for features being presented. Do not agree with your point regarding the linked thread. I believe you are arrogant and abrasive and you're super unpredictable in terms of how you categorize people in terms of intelligence and it seems especially insidious that you go out of your way to slander me and call me disabled in a place that I was not, until recently, in the chat for. It is frankly more insulting to call someone disabled because they disagree with you and how you conduct yourself. It is petty and mean-spirited as fuck. You're literally insane if you think you can righteously talk about constructive criticism and then call me a downie behind my back on a discord with 30 or so other members. When I spoke with you on discord you were barely apologetic about it at all. I genuinely do not care for how you conduct yourself, you are toxic as fuck. If there's anyone else that needs to cease, it's you too. You've proven you've had equivalent amounts of problems controlling yourself and acting like an adult. I'm willing to accept responsibility as soon as you do. I will wait for an admin to look over this and provide their thoughts. -

I posted my response before talking to you. I added the last two images to my initial response mid-typing it up as someone already sent them to me, which I then took to you in DMs to discuss. Let's do the math! I posted my response around 6:28-6:29EST-PM. Two minutes later I sent you the initial image. Last message at 6:37EST-PM. There's your chronology. But sure, I guess everything I said meant nothing to you, especially considering how you didn't get the chronology right and acted like I lied to you. -
[Unresolved] Player Complaint - Scheveningen
Scheveningen replied to BurgerBB's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Hi there! I'd like to point out you have not once in recent history attempted to contact me in DMs to settle this. Whether this is due to your perception that you think I hate you or something, it doesn't matter, because it looks like to me you don't respect me enough to contact me directly to settle this issue. I'm fully capable of discussing these nuances in a public complaint, though, I really think we could've saved ourselves a lot of time and effort due to the nature of complaints. So, let's start. I'm not proud of being abrasive, but I have tried being nice to you far before this ever became an issue where I've become a critic of you. When certain individuals choose to act in a way that's unbecoming and hostile towards other community members for needless purposes, however, I do not personally hesitate to roast people over the same fire that the aforementioned individuals try to burn other people with. I wouldn't do this if people got along in the first place. If you want me to stop then all you need to do is ask. But, before we get to that, do you see this as a detail you should never consider personally as an individual? Is there no logic to the following statement?: Can you honestly tell me you don't do the above? They are more than welcome to post here over issues that are as-of-now unresolved. I get abrasive and roast people over a fire if they're the kind of person that also does the same to people, yes. I do not try to make a rule out of outright insulting them directly without providing actual valid points in consideration to what they've done and how they treat other people. I will note that this isn't always true based on the situation but I make a more consistent attempt to understand people first before I break people and their actions down. You do the same (as displayed with the chemical shenanigans between you and Kaed recently), so either we're both wrong or neither of us are strictly wrong. Possibly in-between. From what I recall I've no idea if I've had a single post deleted by an administrator recently. Edited, probably, such as one of the threads in which the both of us vehemently disagreed on the specifics of features you were intending on implementing and your intent on doing so. Then there was a second thread in which I pointed out your reddit participation was leading to overarching silliness and potentially creating more problems than the community needed. Again, I don't think you can talk about rudeness when you're more than capable of adopting a tone that is extremely defensive in the face of criticism. We're both guilty of this, that much I'm willing to admit. If there are any posts that were edited or deleted, the mods can post them and I'll own up to what was said in them and take whatever needs to be said in stride. Not apologizing for my own testimony in that thread. You and Coalf were both continuing banter that eventually got out of hand and upset you enough to issue a staff complaint over it. You both kept striking at each other with your wits and you personally insisted you had nothing to do with it, I provided a statement that said otherwise based on my own experience with your attitude. Skull pointed out the unfortunate irony that I was indeed going too far than what I was actually supposed to be in the thread for, to point out only that you were more than capable of creating your fair share of the problems in a not-so-recent saga of the hot steamy Burger x Coalf tsundere manga. And I agree with his assessment, I went too far and I think I got a warning over it. Taking that in stride since I've already been warned for it, which is a degree of forum discipline. Moving on. I agree that I was harsh here but it was to drive a point home. I do not believe I was contributing nothing to the thread as I remained on-topic and still discussing your personal conduct as a contributor as an inherent issue. You may choose to ignore it or take it in stride. You went for the throat because of Kaed being opinionated as he usually does. You're now blasted because someone other than Kaed shot back. Why do you expect people not to respond when you act so disrespectful? The statement I mentioned is now surprisingly deleted, as soon as I went to check it. I don't have a screenshot but it's effectively gone now. Shame, that. That Youtube link has nothing to do with the post. The absolute state of BurgerBB being unable to take feedback because he doesn't want it. No context image. My turn to go for the throat. Taken from Lohikar's metaclub coder server: . . Mind who you shit-talk. It is appalling how you can talk about respect while you call me disabled where I cannot immediately call you out for it. It's ridiculous. -

[2 Dismissals] Security/Medical authority over the deceased
Scheveningen replied to MO_oNyMan's topic in Rejected Policy
From a security standpoint, that's usually how I've seen things go. You follow a simple process to get the job done and convince whomever along the way that your way is the best way for everyone without needing to enforce it. Being charismatic sometimes goes further than laying down to people that you're the authority and they're to follow what you say rather than helping suggest to them that it's a good idea. For me it won't really make much difference if it's codified or written into the in-game law that this becomes the case. I do think security needs to OOCly respect that they shouldn't keep a body from being cloned. Medical should OOCly understand that security needs to build a case to do their in-game job properly. It's difficult to balance this tug of war over a body, really. -
[2 Dismissals] Security/Medical authority over the deceased
Scheveningen replied to MO_oNyMan's topic in Rejected Policy
The unsaid standard is that the CSI should follow the body to medical and do an autopsy in medical's own facilities. after the individual is being processed to be cloned. CSI is intended to get a general look-see of their equipment to find if any evidence on them would point to a possible lead. It doesn't need to be any more complicated than it is currently. You can just as easily do this by asking nicely to come into medical to do an autopsy and have a once-over of the victim's personal effects for your case. If you're polite, they have no reason to deny you. If they deny you, then complain to their CMO or to your HOS and if nothing comes of that, then file an incident report regarding the responsible individuals obstructing justice and deliberately preventing a CSI from being able to find out why a crewmember died. -
I was just letting everyone else know that the balance factors attached to ballistics and lasers is there for a reason and there's no point in disrupting that balance. Since we had that discussion a year or so ago and it's not like that answer will change now. While it sucks that it's difficult to recharge energy weapons in the field, giving them magazines would be far too powerful. You could add an AEG to the traitor loadout and I'd be satisfied with it.
-
Explosives generally act on a principle of having three ranges: devastation range, heavy impact range, and light impact range. These are better known as 'gib, heavy, and flash' ranges accordingly as to what they do. Traditional TTV bombs have a range at which it'll always gib someone if they're caught inside that range. It annihilates them, effectively, but I don't think this is behavior that needs to be changed. For !cool immersion points!, however, I think the heavy impact range, should you ever be caught in it, should always propel you away from the devastation epicenter in a number of tiles towards the ending edge of the heavy impact range and where the minimum light impact range starts. If you impact with a surface before your intended destination is supposed to come up, you take damage based on the hardness of the surface and how many tiles you have yet to go. You can end up taking massive damage if you're intended to go flying 7 tiles but your butt is thrown at a wall in the way that's 1-2 tiles in range. For more !cool immersion points!, the impact range of explosions should be buffed a bit to always give 10 points of brain damage and knocked over for a few seconds for anyone caught in it if they aren't wearing a helmet that gives ear protection. This attribute should also be shared for the heavy impact range but multiplied by two.
-
Because then your weapon is deliberately overbuffed powercreep that leaves all other existing weapons in the uplink in the dust. I don't mind if you throw traitors an AEG they can toy around with that has a regenerating capacitor, but don't give them a gun that's superior to everything else in the game due to accepting ammunition, having a high shot capacity and basically can be instantly recharged in the field + shoots through an infinite amount of windows. This is kind of the tradeoff energy weapons get for being so versatile: You have to run away from the conflict to recharge your highly versatile weapon again. Ballistic weapons operate on the opposite principle, they're excellent close range and for quick/dirty encounters. You expend a little more inventory space with a ballistic weapon but their impact + higher potential to kill makes it totally worth it. Once finished, reload and continue with the next encounter. Security exploits lasers better because they possess better armor against it (mercenaries get the most armor against ballistics to protect against friendly fire but are weaker vs. lasers) and generally defend the home field better due to their inherent numbers and departmental support. They're way weaker against ballistics (which is the good portion of the uplink weapons) and actually die way faster to them if a revolver is aimed either center mass or at their brainpan. I've seen Alberyk take a derringer from cargo (which has the same projectile statistics as the traitor revolver) and accidentally kill the chief engineer in a single shot to the chest because the bullet hit his heart for 60 brute damage. The fact the station is a glass dome is really inconsequential. Whether you're armed with lasers or not, your positioning is arguably much more important for the weapon you have, so if you have a ballistic gun, it's not the fault of the gun for not being able to shoot through windows, it's your fault for not positioning appropriately, not that ballistics are underpowered. Don't throw a laser weapon a bone that ballistics gets as its sole benefits for being inflexible. You end up creating a gun that is incredibly uninteresting because it has zero significant weaknesses and is good at everything. Most energy weapons are supposed to be weak in terms of capacity due to not having a reliable method of sustaining in the field after you empty it, because they're decent at dealing out damage, they shoot through windows and windowed airlocks which are two common forms of obstructions, and they deal out a form of damage that doesn't cause bleed out damage, so you can actually capture someone alive with a laser weapon if you shoot them into crit with it. No internal damage whatsoever from it. Lasers are super powerful for their own reasons. Don't make a gun that circumvents all of their weaknesses. Stick to the same formula that works. Doc's idea of an APC jack is ingenious, though, and that compensates a bit for antagonists not being able to reasonably charge their guns in the field. That should definitely be a thing regardless if anything comes out of this suggestion or not.

[2 Dismissals] Telecommunications Destruction Policy
Scheveningen replied to Worthy's topic in Rejected Policy
That's far more reasonable considering how you put it, thank you. There was definitely a misunderstanding on my part of what you were saying. Although there is one thing. Does it matter? If they're able to read context in terms of logs and what people have testified (and hopefully there's little contradictions to avoid making the whole affair confusing), isn't that more important than having followed along actively as to what the antagonists have been doing over the course of the round? It's a welcome measure to be sure but I'm sure admins + mods often have other things to pay attention to and, as you said, they're usually just there to look into things that already happened and need verified in terms of being valid or not. -
[2 Dismissals] Telecommunications Destruction Policy
Scheveningen replied to Worthy's topic in Rejected Policy
Well not just inconveniencing security, it massively changes the game for everyone else. I can think beyond the scope that doesn't apply to me. Out of curiosity, why do you think how I conduct myself personally is a.) Any of your goddamn business or b.) At all related to my points? You don't have to personally attack me because you can't argue my points as well as taking time out of your day to attack me personally. Those argumentative tactics got you banned from discord, as I'm sure you recall. So, what, rather than placing rightful blame on people not doing as the rules tell them to and telling yourself, as part of the administration, "We can escalate more seriously against these people", you say the rule is dumb because... actually, you didn't even clarify why, you just said it wasn't necessarily good policy without saying why it's flawed. Why shouldn't it be expanded to include Telecomms? There are multiple mediums of interaction covered under the branch of telecommunications and the map is absolutely huge now. There is a ton of ground to cover on this map compared to the good ol' reliable Boxstation in which it was super easy to navigate and find people. The map is no longer that compartmentalized. You have to navigate through effective mazes to take maintenance shortcuts into departments now. It's arguably quicker to just take a hallway route into a department now. Telecommunications is required to communicate with other crewmembers to get them onboard with understanding where they need to be positioned and moved towards. Without it, there's very significantly less chance to coordinate departments in a reasonable and comprehensive fashion. Not everyone is a mechanical god at this game either and probably won't chase after a bounce radio or even think to do so. This doesn't really seem consistent with your previous philosophy on how you treat policy. You're arguing administrators should be generally hands-off anytime an antagonist at any point of the round decides to permanently sabotage telecommunications, right? Or are you just stating personal perspective without taking a side on the issue? I'm really confused as to where you're coming from here. -
Hey. why not just expand the ward-robe for the detective instead of removing the current status quo Give people options. Don't take it away from them because you don't like the current aesthetic.

[2 Dismissals] Telecommunications Destruction Policy
Scheveningen replied to Worthy's topic in Rejected Policy
Local server host does not recall that their own server has rules that require people to ask permission before sabotaging the engine, releasing a singularity or bombing the shuttle. Oh, and the malf AI/anyone else is not allowed to cancel a crew transfer through IC means, despite for the former it is most certainly mechanically possible and I'm only half sure if it is for the latter. Removing telecommunications usage for the round as an antagonist as part of an immediate non-escalated measure acts against any standard that antagonists are supposed to abide to in terms of creating interesting conflict. Communications (not unlike the power and air systems) is a very vital part of gameflow. I shouldn't have to explain why, the effects of comms being down for a permanent reason can throw a round into a nearly unfixable limbo that cannot be dealt with short of calling the shuttle or hoping someone knows how to set-up the telecommunications servers again. Anyone who's played a round where the round antagonist chose to bomb telecommunications at the start knows how much of a very un-fun experience a round can be without communications for almost the whole round It's fine if antagonists escalate to this degree, and also super good if they tell the admins through the adminhelp function as provided so that there's no awkward surprises and investigation that needs to be opened over it. It's not fine if said antagonists are doing it for clearly stupid reasons. -
[2 Dismissals] Telecommunications Destruction Policy
Scheveningen replied to Worthy's topic in Rejected Policy
Telecommunications is incredibly difficult to repair if a central bus frame is taken out. It will take a half hour to an hour to fix.
