I too am also bothered by the entire lack of quality control that exists for Nymphs. They're worse than most anything else, because they're pests that can become legal humanoids. They spend the rounds usually biting people for blood, working towards becoming a full Dionae then fucking around until the end of the shift.

[1 Dismissal] Give the Captain's Office a Gilded or Fancy Pen
AmoryBlaine replied to Azande's topic in Archive
I will hunt for it now - it might have been purged at some point but I'm hoping it's still around. Bump. Where is the fancy pens. -
Round on the day of 02/12/2018, you were the only one to PM me in discord to discuss the round as you were the other person alongside Burger who expressed they were upset about the round. Oh, right. Nothing to add.

[2 Dismissals - Bin Sun/29/2018]]Remove the detective's revolver's lethals
AmoryBlaine replied to Worthy's topic in Archive
Yes, and what I do is interrogations that justify X by linking Y and Z, then put everything in a file that I either fax to the HoS or leave in my Office. The gun has only come out a few times- namely the arrival of a horror form, while helping an Officer during a raider attack, and right outside the brig after leaving Medical and hearing someone being saw'd apart at the IAA Office. -

It's much easier to kill the completely unarmed Forensic Technician than it is the Detective. Killing the Technician also eliminates any way of the kill being traced to you. The only reason a Detective is going to be targetted is if you want the gun. If you're playing Detective, because you want to pretend the setting is actually prop'd up for Noir-eqsue investigative work, I dunno what to say. It doesn't work like that, with the majority of work being placed on the CSI, and the Detective being just an auxiliary that stands by to assist in the documentation of what has happened and why it's legal to do X based on Y and Z. As for the revolver itself, it's 'The detective's revolver', because 'The revolver' is a .357 that removes heads. From my experience with detectives, very few are actually do work. There's a great number that treat the role like Officer but without the need to deal with low-level crimes, uniform, or S.O.P concerning the handling of wanted persons. I think taking that gun from them is a good idea, and giving them a .45 with rubber- or nothing- is a step in the right direction. -

[mention]Kaed[/mention] Stylistically I think a .45 with rubber is better for the Detective- and the Warden. It also allows for easier ammo exchange in emergencies or if someone is downed you can use their ammo if you can't hit the Armory first. -

ICly you have no reason to give a singular Detective a .38 when you have four Officers carrying .45s which could just be given FMJ rounds rather than the rubber. This whole "need" for a .38 can be curved simply by requiring an Officer to be present at any interrorgation. -

Wrong. This happens as long as the attack has two hands and a will to live. Your .38 has no advantage in any close quarter scenario unless you land all six hits with high rng damage. -

AmoryBlaine replied to Worthy's topic in Archive
Firearms in close quarters are shit. This is how you die. Pull a gun, and they begin to spam disarm. I have, on a few occassions, killed opponents because they also carried a firearm, while I was able to move one tile to the side of where they were shooting while still being able to disarm them, knock them to the floor and beat their shit in. Even more so, if you want to REALLY win against anyone with a ballisitic firearm in close quarters, just wait until they reload. Charge them and disarm. Then beat them, choke them, ect. Firearms as a defense in close quarters is a joke unless it's a one hit kill weapon or a Hardsuit laser carbine/canon. Any situation where your enemy is flash resistant, you should not be trying to apply lethal rounds of ammunition on them. You should not be trying to engage them in the first place. All drawing a firearm does is- A. Disable one of your hands from being able to hit, disarm your opponent. B. Allow your opponent access to a firearm. So once you're on your ass, they pick it up and unload into your face. -
Did this not answer that? Why would I purposely put a character that is too young and not designed for the role into the role without a massive overhaul? Edit: I'm offended that you would suggest I was doing this to get that character into the position of HoS. I think it is disgusting to implicate that I would actually 'backdoor' him in, especially when you haven't seemingly read the rest of the replies and comments.

Player freedom is important, and the good player is able to set their character up inside the regulations, and not require much stray from them. Honestly though, regulations go out the window half way through most rounds. I think regulations are more important. Freedom as I see it on the server leads to anarchy. And then no one but those willing to kill or fight are having fun preying on those who do not. I, personally, enjoy having to create fun while playing as a straight-laced regulation minded Security Officer. It demands creativity, and a true understanding of you wanting fun and your character wanting fun. I dunno, I wrote this organically. I hope it's a good answer.

Yeah, pretty much. And I suppose I could work with Carmichael there, but he is really just a mess falling apart rapidly without much of a support. So him as a HoS is probably the last thing that would be allowed to happen. Especially with his record. I think a fresh new face is good too. I might change the names. I want more Chinese aboard to represent the massive Chinese population that is under represented. Thanks, by the way.

BYOND key: AmoryBlaine Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora?: April/May of 2017 Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: There's a severe lack of HoS currently, and I wanna play IAA with Pikl. Why did you come to Aurora?: HRP is hard to come by. Aurora isn't entirely my cup of tea, as my cup of tea is 24/7 extended with a small community and plenty of ERP. But that being said, it's the second best thing. The community, for the most part, is welcoming enough. I love the gameplay, it feels nice to me, a bit laggy, but hey, that's how it is when the pop is this high. Also, BlueSec. I really like BlueSec. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay here should, in my mind, be about blending believability and realism. Characters are grounded in the universe set up by the lore, but can, somewhat, diverge from this. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Handling of 'IC issues' on station and acting in a manner that is exemplary of proper RP and player etiquette. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted, in the sense of Heads, exist to control Departments, and are expected to understand said department. They have a responsibility to know what they are doing, and not pass along wrong information or abuse the position. Heads of Staff, ideally, should be working to better their department. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Harry Entfield Character age: 47 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born 2413, Mendell City, to Franklin Entfield, MCPD Law Enforcement Officer and Mary Entfield, MC Public Library Librarian. First born, followed by sister Anne and brother Charles. Attended St.Rosalind Secondary School, was Linebacker on Football team. Below average grades. Lost friend in car accident related to DUI. Graduates High School in 2431, barely. Attended MCPD College, graduated 2433. Little of note during this time outside of meeting future wife Yukio Satawa. Works with MCPD for 10 years, before applying for Security Officer position with NT in 2443.Works as Security Officer for 5 years before taking 2 years in order to gain degrees necessary for Warden occupation. Spends 10 years as Warden before receiving promotion to Head of Security. What do you like about this character?: I like that he isn't really something special, he's just a guy who has gone through life. What do you dislike about this character?: He's new to the occupation. He is only now, in the [CURRENT YEAR] been promoted to the title of Head of Security. I also dislike that he's generally just a normal guy. You'd think that after 47 years of breathing, something would be noteworthy. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Well, he's got years of experience in Security work, and he's shown commitment to NT. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10. Not going to pretend I'm the best out there. It's hard to get big into on-station RP when you're being accosted every five minutes by, [Common] John Doe says, "Security-- help!". I enjoy Discord RP though. Extra notes: Not big on writing paragraphs for questions I feel I can answer with a sentence. I don't like adding fluff to what I say. I'll probably have to edit this thing later. I dunno, I think it's good. Also, if this isn't pressed through, I'm going to beat up anyone who gave me -1s.

[2 Dismissals - Bin Sun/29/2018]]Remove the detective's revolver's lethals
AmoryBlaine replied to Worthy's topic in Archive
During an interview He can but they are sometimes ineffective. There's no room for error when you're working alone most of the time and can't expect support Because officer has a lot of other shit to do besides babysitting the detective. There are 4 officers for the entire station of 50+ people. An officer assigned to constantly tail the detective is a waste of resources again, it's the detective's literal JOB to directly interact with potentially dangerous and violent crewmembers alone. You'd think he would have to have a tool to reliably protect himself and dissuade the potential assailants from making a move Again. PACIFIED. You are interrorgating someone who has already been striped and brought to Security. You are in a room that is visible by cameras and has a mic in it. You should not be expecting to have to shoot this person in the chest lethally. As for "no room for error", why not give Officers .45 lethals then? After all, Officers usually operate alone and are coming in contact with these hostile persons before pacification. -

Keyword: Pacified. When exactly is the Detective going to need to apply lethal force after pacification? Why can he not use a flash or a baton or anything other than lethals. Why is this Detective actively interacting with a threat while not being assisted by an Officer? This is ASKING to use the .38 -

Most Detectives I see are either clueless baldies or extremely close to being that bad. I would say that the majority of .38 revolver applications are unneeded and uncalled for. The Detective should not be expected or implied to have any reason to be in a situation where a lethal firearm is needed. Interviews are not dangerous, we have a viewing room with a two way mic and cameras to view any face to face interrorgations. They shouldn't be stalking maintenance, that is a task wholly unrelated to their profession. Active crimes are also none of their business. Really, the Detective is an auxillary unit that assists with verifying that everything makes sense on paper. They link the evidence, the witness testimony and charges together and generally make sure things are nice and smooth. If shit gets real, they can use firearms, yes, but they are not suppose to be charging the heights. They're an assistant, really. A very useful one. So I think by removing the .38 from their loadout, it encourages this auxillary role, which we need them to fill. -
[Resolved] Staff Complaint: Calion12, SirCatNip
AmoryBlaine replied to Gamerlord's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
What you've described throughout this complaint is not ShitSec. It's just poor communication on the part of the Warden to tell you what your charges are and Linerbord to explain why you broke into Robotics. If Linerbord wants to be a bitch to you, they can, although I'm not sure how asking you to stop looting someone and to allow them out is 'being a bitch'. YOU believe it's right for YOU to take the 'BlueSpace' tech, that doesn't mean it is. That is evidence or private property depending on what the Security team and Command deem it to be. It is not for you to take simply because of an 'expertise' on the subject. And no, you don't get to go on comms and talk shit. "She started it!" Doesn't help you, because it makes a point of highlighting how childish this whole complaint is. This is the situation dumbed down. Man has strange shit. You want to police strange shit. Officer does not want you to police strange shit, because it is not your job to take shit from other people who are being detained or arrested. You don't comply. You get arrested by another Officer, and the Warden brigs you without telling you your charges. -

It really doesn't unless an ahelp is being made right after it's use or the Detective is so stupid they unload on someone they REALLY REALLY REALLY shouldn't have. Any other time it's chalked up as just being another day at the Office. Detectives already drop in to every single crime scene they can with full intent on making arrests or shooting something. They know their gun does damage. They want to deal that damage. The smart ones aim first so that they can play the "self-defense" card. The only way to combat this behavior is the punishment of death. Either .45 rubber or a flash for them. They are too cocky with their pistol. -

AmoryBlaine replied to Gamerlord's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
What even is the focus of this complaint? It's so vague- and it feels like it should be in player complaints section now. It started off being about Staff not handling an 'OOC' issue, to now talking about how much you should respect fellow co-workers and why it's okay(?) for you to talk shit on the Officer but not for them to stop you from doing something you shouldn't be doing. -

Either they get a .45 with rubber like the Officers or no gun at all. It's so awful having Dick Tracey arrive on scene pointing his .38 at some guy with a wrench for a weapon.
