The epinephrine sacs do not prevent stuns, nor provide any resistance to them. It recovers you from one stun by expending half your chemical supply. So you can just get batoned again after a second or two, for example. At least that's how I remember it. This is a concern too. However, cult is a team gamemode - you're guarunteed to fight more than 3-4 of them at round start (if they're hostile), and they can very rapidly increase these numbers with constructs and more people who can just as easily summon the stun immune armor. Changelings, unlike cult, aren't encouraged in any way shape or form to cooperate. It massively benefits changelings to work together but ultimately this is incredibly rare. On top of all that there is typically no more than 1-4 changelings, and this number can only decrease as the round progresses. How the immediate escalation to lethals affects changeling as a gamemode is something that will need to be seen in practice. For cult, it sometimes works great - not having the entire cult stuncuffed 20 minutes in can contribute to a good round easily. See cult. It often leads to really shit rounds when security is just decapped by cult with their free esword+stun immune armor when all security had were tasers and stunbatons. In regards to that, again, the lack of multiplying changelings and the fact that they're essentially solo antagonists more akin to ninja/wizard than traitors/vampires might help.

This is yet another simple "fix" for changeling being total garbage that might be easier than a complete rework and actually make sense. Why do changelings feel pain, if they are capable of altering their shape and controlling their body to such an extent so as to resurrect at will completely rejuvenated regardless of wounds short of decapitation? IC reasoning aside, the OOC implications of changelings feeling pain generally go like this ; Changeling has armblade. Changeling rushes person with armblade. The first hit does massive brute, as expected, but does not knock the person down. Person retaliates with one stunbaton hit. Changeling is downed instantly, cuffed and thrown in solitary, and then xenobiology for 2 hours. Replace the stunbaton with basically any simple means of downing people from disarming to tasers to anything, really, and you've got mostly all changeling rounds. The stopping point of every narrative is the first stun, and changelings have zero recovery or escape from being locked naked in some tiny room short of becoming a horror form and I'm sure you all know how rare those are. This is a huge buff. Looking at playable synthetics, their lack of pain alone makes them extremely powerful, let alone organics who are effectively immortal. This will force changelings to actually moderate and care about their escalation like any other antagonist does because every single situation no longer has your entire round teetering on ending with a single disarm. Changelings will become extremely difficult to hold down as a result of this. Unlike the synthetics that feel no pain, there will be no direct hard counter such as EMPs or flashes to instantly end your round. How this is affected by changeling's antagonist status is yet to be seen, and it'll probably seem better in practice.

Let's end this meme of forced reliance on engineers
kyres1 replied to BurgerBB's topic in Completed Projects
I don't think atmospheric technician was ever a super popular role, was it? It's effectively an engineer who isn't untrained but isn't forced to set up the engine. -
Borg armor dies in 2-3 shots to basically any energy weapon. Considering they can't just detonate EMPs on themselves or brandish ions, they are nowheres near as hyper powerful as people both expect them to be and say they are. Traitor borgs don't need to be flash cheesed.

100% agreed. I was going to originally post something along the lines of this regarding round-start setup in its entirety being removed (like R&D's starting levels, the starting mining grind, etc) but this definitely covers what I find wrong with engineering in its current state. The worthwhile part of customizing the engine from the ground up is definitely not worth the metric shit ton of repetition engineers need to do to start it up every single round. No, it's not hard. No, it doesn't take too long. But it's still 10-20 and even 30 minutes of your time spent doing the same thing every single time you play. -
Even IPCs aren't immune to bees. They deal burn damage on top of toxins, keep in mind, and for Zeng-Hus it's enough to cause sparking from a sting or two. Also, a single swarm from the apiary is an instant 150 toxins damage to anybody who walks on the same tile as it. Why? Who knows.

Yeah that's silly. The only way to stop a good ninja is to land a single slug and watch as they desperately attempt to get the shrapnel removed. In nine out of ten cases this results in them dying in some corner of maintenance somewhere because they can never stand still long enough to get the shrapnel out before security pinpoints them. Lasers and melee are basically just an annoyance to someone who can freely teleport as fast and as many times as they want, especially when even breaking their ribs and skull just gets splinted by their RIG. Also, don't forget the combat injector, the four TC for 30 oxycodone, 30 hyperzine, 30 synapt and glucose to stop everything from paincrit to internal bleeding. They're reaaaaaally strong already.
-
Is ninja not already the most powerful antagonist? Look at its teleport and infinite power with the emergency generator. It's how it should be, but does it need more buffs? Different things to spend TC on, however, I'm all for. Built-in predator style surgery kits sound amazing, especially since self-surgery is such a hinging point on your survival as a ninja. But it should be expensive.

just give them more points at roundstart and make killing give a lot more. easy fix

all this is intentional... save for weird gripper issues. even then, those are a whole different subject and need a whole degree of balancing if you intend to have them act as hands. why does a security module not equipped to repel boarders require lethal forms of defense? why do any stationbounds require lethal defense, save for the combat module, which should literally never be activated outside of borderline nuke scenarios?

The colors are the same save for the gold trim and lacking blue shoulder/tail/knee highlights.

So someone brought up how, the head of security, despite being hugely important in all sorts of EVA things from drills to away missions, has no special voidsuit. The captain has their own, the chief engineer and director have hard suits, and the head of personnel and chief medical officer rarely have an excuse to go EVA to begin with. During EVA operations, the head of security is forced to take one of the two voidsuits laying in EVA if they want any form of armor in EVA or designation that they're security, much less the head of security. That's kinda silly. So I sprited an entire species set for a head of security voidsuit. Presumably, its stats would be the same as if not slightly better than those of the normal security voidsuits. I'm open to respriting these in their entirety as according to feedback. As it stands though I'm happy with the way they turned out. Edit : Tajaran side sprites redone.

Purpose Drones Under Pursuit Thousands of tiny drones from the synthetic colony known as “Purpose” have been swarming across the major cities of Biesel, prompting security concerns and the arrival of a paramilitary mercenary company to deal with them. Dozens of drones have been spotted in Mendell City alone, causing hundreds of incidents of trespassing or privacy violations. Due to their high speed and small size the drones have frustrated authorities across Biesel by being impossible to capture. In one high profile situation on the 10th of August, a group of 3 drones were discovered hovering outside a military airship. Two interceptor strike craft launched from the base and pursued the drones across Severson’s Rift. The drones suddenly dived into the water, submerging and disappearing from sight. The following night, dim red lights could be seen entering and emerging from the Rift and hastily departing into orbit. “They’re basically tiny camera drones,” Amanda Smalls, Mayor of Phoenixport told our reporters, “they’ve been slipping into houses, banks, and I think I’ve heard of secure space stations being infiltrated too.” Anonymous sources within the government have revealed that Dorn is preparing to meet with governors and regional leaders of Biesel who have expressed alarm and concern about the infiltration of their communities by mysterious synthetics. NanoTrasen stations have also suffered infiltration of its science station the NSS Aurora, as well as the NTCC Odin. A company spokesman has announced that regardless of the acts of espionage, the company was conducting a policy of negotiation and dialogue with the synthetic faction known as “Purpose.” Despite the mixed responses by NanoTrasen and the Biesel government, a third party has thundered onto the scene: Ceres’ Lance. After being granted an allowance to operate within Tau Ceti by the Secretary of Defense Charles Patton, Ceres’ Lance has migrated into Tau Ceti directly from the Alliance to address the issues posed by the mysterious synthetics. Ceres’ Lance has become a recurring face since its arrival and, as a result of Purpose’ actions, set out to hunt them specifically. Entirely under external funding from major galactic powers, they have extended operations to the Republic from its primary operations within the Alliance. Their solemn goal is repossessing or otherwise destroying dangerous, rogue synthetics while apprehending owned synthetics that escaped from their assigned owner. The majority of their publicity comes from corporate giants such as Hephaestus Industries, who make themselves out to be dedicated supporters of the organization’s actions. We were able to contact the head of the organization’s venture into Tau Ceti, Central Officer Bradford Myles, who provided a statement in regards to the developing situation. “The Lance, in its four years of existence, has reclaimed countless lost and rogue synthetics and diffused even more dangerous situations involving them. We intend to be the first line of defense against these emergent societies, in the event they decide peace is not the best course of action. Until then, our goals are simple. We will adapt to threats as they are revealed, and adapt faster than anybody is capable.” Purpose’ drones for now appear to be departing Tau Ceti with fewer and fewer being spotted. Their vessels have been logged passing NanoTrasen installations, making rounds to areas where numerous sightings have occured. Outside of the encounter in District 2 mentioned previously, drone sightings have ceased as of Monday last week. In related news, traffic from the vessels has been authorized to occur while negotiations led by NanoTrasen take place, and as such has recently bloomed in orbit of Beisel. In total, three independent ships from the colony have revealed themselves and are present in the system.

Riq is definitely one of this server's best. I can't speak for the old days but what do I know is that now, he's a fantastic player and I can't see any issue with him taking on a command whitelist. The application is definitely good, though the backstory is short, it gets to the point and the other questions are satisfactory on their own.

Makes sense, I like it. Unsure of how implementing it would work but I'd gladly sprite markings if need be. Xenowear maybe?

Player Complaint: Whole Merc team from bVE-agaz]
kyres1 replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
only one room was stolen iirc. We didn't intend to take literally all the tools. We just needed enough to take to the forward operating base we had set up in maintenance. -
What the title says. Changelings start with 5 evolution points, and the majority of the more powerful abilities available are locked behind at least three or four kills (assuming you've spent your starting points). Being forced to kill three or four people for no other reason than what is needed to progress the round is ridiculous, and extremely, almost impossibly difficult if you aren't playing a job that calls for privacy with one other crew member. On top of that, the starting selection of abilities are few and, while powerful (see: armblade, silence sting), don't contribute creatively to anything no matter how you put it. Raising the starting evolution points to no more than 10 is an easy fix to this, and more than 2 points from outright removing someone from the round would help in making death more impactful in changeling. 5, maybe? edit: horror form should obviously be scaled with this, since horror form is a game ending and super powerful ability. It should be locked behind the same amount of kills it was before honestly.

I'm gonna give another depressing response to this. In the sparing interaction you had with me, you weren't doing what ERT are intended to do. Rather than shoulder your bullpup and aim me down, you treated it like you were normal security and ended up dying for it. Optimally, the situation would've gone like this - You shoulder the bullpup, aim at me, if I continue to run, shoot me until I'm dead. That's it. That's what I could expect ICly and OOCly of ERT, as that is, again, their purpose. To validhunt and conclude rounds.
-
I'll respond to this the same way I did in the round. Think about this. You're ERT, right? OOCly, you're this. An observer role which can spawn in upon request, is given some of the highest tiers of equipment in the game, and given a single goal. That goal is to respond to, and repair the emergency situation on board the station. You have access to all radio frequencies, the highest authority of any individual on board during the situation, and there can be up to six of you. ICly, you're this. An extremely heavily armed emergency response team devoted to remedying the situation. This usually involves shooting literally anything anybody deems hostile until it is dead, again, with the most potent weaponry available in the game. An antagonist ICly may expect you to board with overwhelmingly ridiculous force and survival against an ERT is next to none if you don't shoot first. You are loyal to NanoTrasen and have no incentive to ever listen to any hostile unless they are confronting you with something like a bomb threat or hostage (and even then, most ERTs just shoot through that.) I have ahelped before asking if it's even possible to gank ERT. It's honestly not. I have seen countless times where mercs plant a TTV at the ERT shuttle dock and have it detonate as soon as they step out, gibbing the entire team without a word being said. I have seen cultists abuse blood boil to delete ERT troopers through walls without their presence even being known. Remember that one Sol marines event where a trooper got headgibbed for turning a corner without even knowing there were people at the end of the hallway? In short, you're a hyper robust space power ranger which exists to bring an end to the round's progression. You effectively aren't even considered a character. Now this leads me to ask my own question. Do I wish it was different? Yes, I do. I wish ERT wasn't called literally every other round, and I wish ERT roleplayed properly. I also wish ERT would be heavily nerfed for the sheer risk you take just by existing near them. People want ERT gone for a reason. Edit : I, and you forgot to bring up the fact that at this point the majority if not all of security was incapacitated by me. I'm not sure if you were able to catch them saying "Stone is killing us" amidst the telecomms grief, but that happened. It basically gave me even less incentive to give you a chance to shoot me, because you'd have literally no reason not to upon seeing my loadout.

[Denied] IronTeapot's IPC Application
kyres1 replied to IronTeapot's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
This has taken a while to be edited, but post-edit the application still doesn't hold up. For now, application denied. Reapply when you feel ready. -
What the title says. This is one of the many curses of being a changeling. Imagine you're chasing some guy down with your super scary changeling powers. You're this horrific shapeshifting monstrosity which will stop at nothing to add to its collection of identities. Then you contort your arm into a twisted, disgusting blade! And then you slip on your own blood, falling on your face and retracting the armblade, wasting 20 chemicals, 40 if you had a shield too which take about a minute or two to actually regenerate. By now, someone's seen you slipping, and are currently on top of you stomping on you. A lot of the time, this just ends the round entirely. I only make this suggestion after having slipped on my own gibs some seven times in a single round, and running into the exact situation as above every time. I don't know if walking and running increases/decreases the chances of slipping, but you can still slip while walking. I've witnessed too many lings already suffer the same fate. As for situations not involving changelings, I don't really know. It doesn't provide much to the game other than ending entire fights when it happens, considering not even magboots can defeat slippery blood and guts.

[Denied] IronTeapot's IPC Application
kyres1 replied to IronTeapot's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hi. Sorry for the wait. I'll be handling this application. I'll start by saying I like this application. The answers are satisfactory and you clearly went out of your way to read more of the lore than just what was on the IPC related pages. To me, that's a great sign. It has plenty of positive feedback, especially from some frequent players. You've played for a while, too. There is one issue, however. It is very difficult to find a position where the Shell frame can fit in on board, and security even more so. Finding a good enough reason to manufacture such a ludicrously expensive robot for the sole purpose of deescalation and interaction is, to me, nigh impossible. I don't personally think Soter's origin makes much sense in that regard. With that said, I do like the small arc involving Soter's story outside of Tau Ceti. To me, though, it looks like something that would lead to Soter being assigned to something along the lines of a bridge assistant or head of personnel. I don't expect either of those jobs in specific, of course, but anything makes more sense than something like corporate security for something as expensive as a Shell when something less than a tenth of the price exists and can do the same job, perhaps better - Baselines as an example. If Soter's original manufacturing was perhaps revised to something more sensible I don't see any problem in accepting this application. -
Ling buffs are needed. This is a super simple one, and it's definitely a start. You'll often find yourself cuffed after your first or second absorption as a changeling, and you have absolutely zero means of escaping if you don't immediately take the ability that turns you into a monkey. Meanwhile, every single other antagonist has plenty of ways of escaping being restrained. Why not changelings?
-
It screams "I'm going to murder you all" which is why I originally picked green. Is this preferable? Minor change to the human sprite by request of someone over discord. On top of all that, I'll probably work on some IPC variants.
