[Accepted] ben10083's CCIA Application
ben10083 replied to ben10083's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Hello, I will be responding to UnknownMurder's questions. Regarding the 'tons' of notes; from what I was able to gather in terms of what my notes were the most recent warning I have gotten was 2 months regarding a semi-major mistake I made in a slow round leading me to say ic in ooc when an antag who was doing very well was killed, and at that moment I wanted to be a good sport and congratulate him on what he did (I felt like an idiot afterwards and totally deserved the warning). The 'recent' ban you refer to was one that was shown to be a complete misunderstanding by the person who ahelped and the staff member involved, I will leave a link to it if you wish to look over it. I have changed since then and I believe that due to the notes being mostly cyborg law mistakes I made that it should have no effect on my ability to perform my duties as a CCIA Agent. If this application was denied due to this reason I will likely wait a month and try again when the notes are older and less relevant. If I were to use one word/quality to describe a good CCIA Agent, it would be diligent. In my opinion no one can truly do the best they can in a job and/or task without having diligence. If a CCIA Agent cares about its duties, then it will truly try their best in making sure the task is done right. From what I can tell, CCIAA can board the station in the following events; A CCIA Audit, an IR investigation, and when command is acting out of line but not at the point where an ERT is needed. I will not lie if what I just said was incorrect I apologize, have I do not have much information on this. In regards to your first point, I was talking about how CCIAA are shown to help refine suggestions such at this https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=124&t=11367&start=20 and allow it to be implemented in a matter that is realistic and clean. Regarding my social interactions, if I was a CCIA Agent I would be mature and (more) polite on forums and on discord. I am aware that looking through what I said in discord I may seem very immature, but I assure you if I was accepted as a CCIA agent I would correct such behavior immediately but not doing as many jokes or messing around with emotes as I currently do. When I meant cool off I meant simply taking a breather and maybe doing some anti-stress things such as taking deep breaths. I may also seek more assistance and/or advice on the situation if I feel it is needed. I have answered these questions to the best of my ability, if you have any further questions please reply to this application or DM me on discord. -
[Accepted] ben10083's CCIA Application
ben10083 replied to ben10083's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
I will address criticism one person at a time to maintain organization. Eve, Regarding this first point, I was referring to the feedback of one of the members of the community, who said that my characters were over the top and unmemorable. I would be foolish to attempt to say I learned from my bwoinks only when I was confronted with them, I am aware that the notes I have put me in a negative light but I assure you they do not make me unable to perform the duties of a CCIA Agent and I do not ignore the rules. Regarding this second point, I am aware that I have a serious problem when it comes to typing too fast and proofreading, as such at the time of writing this I am utilizing a system to assist me with grammar and spelling mistakes. I have also correct hopefully all of the grammar and spelling mistakes of the application, but if I have not I apologize and will correct them. I understand that I am giving the impression that I am only trying to be a CCIA because I may think that it is easier to get in than applying for moderator, but I assure you that that is not the reason I applied for CCIA and if you would reread my application you will see that I have more clearly stated my reasons for applying. I understand your concerns, and I assure you that I think I am able to carry out the tasks required to perform my duties as a CCIA Agent. If you would like, I can DM you or reply on this application what my response would be to such a fax if you would like. UnknownMurder, regarding your complaints as will be stated below; I have addressed your concerns below my 'additional notes' in my application and I hope you will read it. I thank you for referring me to ToasterRoboto's application and your reply to that application was very beneficial. Overall, I implore both UnknownMurder and Eve to reread my application as I have greatly improved it and I implore you to give me second chance. -
CCIA Staff Application Basic Information Byond key: ben10083 Character names: Carl Smith, B.O.B (and B.O.B 2.0), S.A.M, I-AN, SE-B, and W.A.R. Age: 16 Timezone: EST (Eastern Standard Time) What times are you most available?: I am usually on between 9:30 am - 4:10 pm in the summer, otherwise, after summer vacation I am done usually after 3 pm. These times vary depending on my job's hours. Experience How long have you played SS13?: I have been playing SS13 for around 2-3 years, I do not know the exact time. How long have you played on Aurora?: I have been playing on the Aurora almost as soon as I got in SS13. How active on the forums, discord and/or server are you? I am usually on almost every day, however when it comes to forums I usually only check it daily, however, if I was given this position I will check forums more often. For discord, I am usually on every day. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Synthban #1 (week); Cause; Various small failures about follow borg and ai laws leading to a synthban. Synthban #2 (unknown) Cause; Banned via misunderstandings regarding a miner who died while I was treating him, was successfully repealed via staff complaint. Have you ever volunteered as moderation staff for any other servers, SS13 or otherwise?: I have not. Do you have any other experience that you believe would be relevant to a position in the CCIA?: Nothing comes into mind which may relate to any positions in the CCIA. Personality Why do you want to join the CCIA?: The CCIA staff role has the unique task to deal with problems that can not/should not be solved in ooc ways, they are responsible to be one of the most important people in the game, now don't get me wrong this is not why I decided to apply for the CCIA. I applied for the CCIA because I feel that I will be better suited for the CCIA than for other staff roles, and I feel that CCIA will be more enjoyable for me than other staff roles. When I failed my 2nd moderator app I decided to wonder if I truly wanted to continue trying to become a moderator, as such I decided to look into other staff roles and more deeply into the moderator role to decide if I will truly enjoy being a moderator, after thinking about it I decided that perhaps I should not be a moderator since I will have to know whatever is going on at any time instead of focusing on enjoying the game, and when I realised that I knew that the role was not for me at this time. I feel that if I join the CCIA I will be able to strike the perfect balance between being able to help contribute more to this community and to also be able to continue enjoying this game. What do you think are the most important qualities for a CCIA Agent to possess?: A CCIA Agent has many qualities they need to have in order to truly succeed as a CCIA Agent. A CCIA Agent must be able to be unbiased in their decision making, they must excel with their RP skills when it comes to investigating IRs (Incident Reports) and responding to Centcom faxes. A CCIA Agent must also be able to remain calm and maintain healthy levels of stress, they must also be able to work usually completely by themselves and must be very knowledgeable with station directives and regulations and how they affect the game. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is in an ongoing round?: A CCIA Agent is responsible during rounds to send out Centcom notices regarding directives and other information to ensure the crew is knowledgeable of applicable directives. They are also tasked with the very important duty as acting as Centcom in terms of when reports come to the Odin from Aurora regarding station events, and they must ensure they respond in a realistic and appropriate manner, they remain in the sidelines for rounds and usually only have impact in the round in very specific cases and/or when they are interviewing people regarding IRs. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is outside of the server?: CCIA Agents are responsible to be active on the forums and help make policy suggestions into the game if they have enough merit, they are also tasked with the massive task of dealing with IRs on the forums. When it comes to IRs they must first ensure it is not an OOC problem typically by contacting their liaison to ensure an antag is not a target of the IR, they will then investigate the IR as ICly as possible by scheduling an interview and using information almost exclusively from the IR and interviews to make a decision that is fair and unbiased. How do you handle stress?: When it comes to stress as long as I do not give myself too much work I should be fine, however if I make mistakes I may get a little stressed, if I feel my stress will what I am doing I will usually take a breather and possibly ask others for assistance, however given that the CCIA usually works autonomously I will simply just cool myself off (figuratively of course) and then get back to work. How well do you work autonomously?: When it comes to working by myself I usually will be fine as long as I am aware of what to do and how I should handle certain situations, if there is anything that I feel I have insufficient knowledge on I will likely contact a fellow CCIA member to assist me if I need to, however that is only a last resort if I honestly feel I cannot correctly handle a situation. I will almost certainly ask many questions if I was accepted to ensure I do everything right and minimize mistakes. Additional Notes: I am aware my previous two denied mod applications make likely cause a negative impact on this app so I will address it here. Regarding the 1st one, that was a long time ago and I have changed a lot since then, and my 2nd one also led to me improving myself, even if this application ends up being denied I will use this feedback to improve myself even more. Edit; I have made many mistakes regarding my first draft and I apologise profusely, I had work soon at the time of the first draft which made me type insufficient answers, I was worried if I put it off until after work that I would forget what I was doing and end up making more mistakes than I would have otherwise. What I did was unwise and I implore anyone who has read this already to go over it again as it has been greatly revised. I understand that the first draft will likely still have an impact of the decision of this application and I will understand if I am thought to be unfit to become a CCIA Agent. I will likely respond to any feedback I have if I feel like it needs to be addressed, so feedback is greatly requested.

[1 Dismissal] IC directive suggestion: Posting bail
ben10083 replied to Scheveningen's topic in Rejected Policy
Bail is only used after someone is guilty, when you are detained you are assumed guilty, just pay the fine or spend the time in jail, you cant circumvent this by using bails the way they are not supposed to be used. -1 -
I just gotta say these changes are nice and people who say that they cant get the runners anymore just need to use their other tools (stunbaton, taser, pepperspray, etc. really guys, you have so many ways to get them just use em) The flash was a super easy way to neutralize antags and criminals to the point that the other tools were basically ignored, this nerf allows the other tools to be given more attention. But I gotta say, please reduce the time borgs are disabled for flash, its crazy long and is annoying.

+1 Everytime ninja finally dies most of sec dies with them, not to mention the metagaming if you want to live problem.
-
-1 I can see this being memed and inflating the ticket count of people closing it too early this scenario comes to mind; Baldie McManz; "Goonie VonManz is breaking the rules" Baldie McManz; -closes ticket- Absolute Madmin; -makes new ticket, sends to Baldie- "How so" Baldie McManz; "He is powergaming" Baldie McManz; -closes ticket- Adsolute Madmin -makes new ticket- rinse and repeat Honestly I do not see a problem, if you want to have the ticket closed do the following; Admin tab>view tickets>Find open ticket(recent one)>ask them to close it>they close it. If you want it closed, just ask them via the way above
-
no but in all seriousness, I understand that some people may think ports are just lazy, but lets face it, why do the work which has a chance to fail when you can just get something that is proven to work then add your spin to it maybe.

[Implemented] Give IAA's Injunction Authority
ben10083 replied to Azande's topic in Accepted/Implemented Policy
It's a much wanted change, which is in no way the same as much needed. It's just another further attempt by IAA players to give themselves more power over the crew. I'm more of the opinion that the role should be removed from the server entirely, but that's not relevant to this thread. I'm just here to express my displeasure with the idea. All heads of staff have more power over the crew, even if they do not directly have authority over them, crew would likely listen to their ideas since they know that the head can simply ask their boss to do the same thing. What I am trying to get at is that command staff (im including IAA) are trusted to have power over crew, and having IAA to be able to make injunctions (ie an restraining order) would be a good idea to make IAA better to play. As it stands IAA just has the power to have CCIA do things they could have done themselves with said order. -
I agree with arrow on this one, this allows cargo techs to actually have something to do besides sorting warehouse, I encourage stuff like this and other stuff similar to this. Not to mention if it's too expensive you have a department account for this very situation. -1

Hey, I played with Cadmus a few times, and I have to agree with the plaintiff here, cyborgs don't really say things like 'retard' or 'autistic' or stuff like 'sup', sounding like someone I would meet at the bar. Overall I understand that some people are negative to borgs, but you can't just as a cyborg just insult them, as a reference, when someone is being a ass to my cyborg I just ignore it, since cyborgs don't care how you feel about them. Regarding the AI thing, I agree 100% with cadmus's actions, if even one of you guys escaped they would be fucked, as a emitter was already there (powergaming? Why was that even there?) and they would escape likely the moment he let up, if the plaintiff wouldn't the engineer certainly would.

[Denied] ben10083's Head of Staff Application
ben10083 replied to ben10083's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Ferguson If I played as HoP I would be more hands off for cargo if they had a QM, if they didnt I may help them at least get their bearings and earn a profit, for service, I will also be relatively hands off with the possible exception of having them charge for drinks and food (depending how I make that character). I consider the HoP's job to be the most vital job in terms of helping new players get used to the server, so I would prioritize job assignments more than most else. -
BYOND key: ben10083 Character names: BEAKER, B.O.B, B.O.B 2.0 (AI), I-AN, L.O.S.S, S.A.M, SE-B. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: around 2-3 years Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to play the roles of IAA and HoP Why did you come to Aurora?: The HRP appeal of this server convinced me to try it out, and I greatly enjoy playing on this server Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay, to me at least, is people acting out as a character of usually their own creation, roleplay allows people to act as they likely would not in real life, and it allows for infinite possibilities in terms of characters and environments. Roleplay should be about people socializing with others pretending to be a character, all while having fun and socializing with the person both IC and OOC. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Their purpose is to guide the round to be enjoyable for as many people as possible, they are tasked with leading others of their respective department (or the overall station for IAA) to make sure they are following rules, not power-gaming, and overall making the round involve as many people as possible. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: White-listed players are held at an higher standard given how head of staff players are typically very experienced if their department (or at least their job). They are tasked to make sure the players do not go overboard and violate any server rules, and they are considered the go-to person for questions regarding their department. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: B.E.N Character age: 5 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Built in the year 2455, the B.E.N model was designed to be a machine that could effectively do Bureaucratic duties without bias. The machine was sold to Hephaestus Industries and was put to work as a Internal Affairs Agent on the HRS Lemnos. The robot quickly went to work and kept a close eye on the other workers there and rooted out many that did not preform to the best of the company's interest. B.E.N quickly gained reputation and a cold IA Agent that rarely talked to others about anything that wasn't about work, and when it had free time it usually was seen either working on upcoming audits or preparing forms. The only people B.E.N really communicated with was the other IA agents with it, and even then it was not much. B.E.N kept to itself mostly, usually only talking to others if it involved it's job. after 4 years of working at the HRS Lemnos, NanoTrasen bought B.E.N and reprogrammed it with their regulations and policies. Soon after it was sent to the NSS Redemption to work as a IA Agent. The unit soon got used to it's station and it began it's duties, and after a year it was transferred to the NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character?: The Unit is resilient and it's personality can allow for interesting gameplay for me and likely others, and B.E.N would be very detailed with it's investigations and will leave no stone unturned, literally and figuratively. What do you dislike about this character?: B.E.N's cold attitude results in a misconception that it does not like anyone, but in reality it just simply wants to do it's job and can be seen as a workaholic. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: This character is fully dedicated to the fight of Internal Affairs, and is programmed to ensure regulations and directives are followed to the letter. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I am not dense, I know that in terms of my characters they seem a bit dull and transformitive, but I enjoy having the characters that help in the sidelines, keeping everything working yet not actively taking credit, even if people don;t know all my characters they likely know at least one. Extra notes: I am aware the backstory is the same, it was the same character so I used same backstory, I talked with others and they agree the backstory wasn't the problem of the previous app. Also, I am not using the IAA slot as a way to get other jobs by a backdoor. I honestly want to try out IAA, treat me as if I am picking a role like HoP or RD, and don't hold back with criticism, it will help me improve.

Basically allow malf AIs to use a delta encrption hack to unlock combat modules for all slaved borgs, but crew is not notified. This will allow the malf AI to have an effective module to begin it's conquest of the station as most borg uprisings end badly for the bots since they are under-prepared for the ISD and RnD forces
-
1. Never seen autoborger actually used, not even sure what it looks like let alone if it works 2. never heard of these nanites, can you elaborate how you get them and how they work? 3. its ok to have multiple ways to borgify for an malf ai, the problem with the AI is unlike other antags, they are unmovable, they could get emittered, they can easily be killed by so many ways, so malfs need to amass a decent amount of borgs to even have a CHANCE against crew. 4. I understand what you mean, the mechanics can be changed but I would like the concept to change, I am open to suggestions how to modify it.
-
This suggestion is allowing the malf ais to have a thing they can research late game called "Borgitist" (Prob a different, better name...) that allows hacked medical borgs to have a syringe that has a sample of the virus, the virus ICly is nanomachines that are programmed to borgify someone from the inside out. Transmision; injection of nano-machines in blood stream; Touching a mechanized part of someone infected. stage 1; no external anomalies, the victim patient feels sharp pain in it's chest. Heart is borgified, no pulse. (5 minutes length) stage 2; Internal organs start being borgified, starting from the heart to the other organs. The Patient has a hoarse cough and feels constant pain, late stage of this stage has the chest have some spots that are metal. (4 minutes) stage 3; Limbs are borgified, from the arm to the hand, and the legs to the feet. The patient has trouble speaking and sometimes talks in binary as his/her vocal cords are transformed; besides the obvious mechanized limbs, the chest is almost completely metal and the eyes turn into synthetic flashes, The patient feels paralyzing pain at the end of this and also starts to experience mental problems as it reaches their brain. (3 minutes) stage 4; The head quickly turns into metal and the patient becomes completely borgified and turned into a cyborg, lawed to their AI. The patient before complete borgification may be tempted to try to infect others, as they are getting lawed. They die around 3 minute before borgification is complete. (3 minutes) Total; 15 minutes Notes; death doesn't matter, they will still turn into a borg Cure; stage 3 and 4 is hopeless, as it is too spread out to deal with, better off killing and destroying the body to prevent them from turning into a borg HOWEVER at stage 1-2 they can be cured by using a dropper and using sophiric acid on the organs, chest, and in the blood stream (depending on stage), it may cause toxin damage but will kill the nano-machines. EMPs won't be effective as the organic matter will protect them. (or maybe that also works, depends on feedback). How to spot an infected; when you scan them with medical analyser, it states that 'Unregistered inorganic matter detected in body, advanced scan required." Body scanner will have any organs/arms infected with "Mechanized". Overall this will allow the malf ai to have more tools at it's disposal to make the robot army it needs to take over the station, and will allow for interesting gameplay for medical. Edit; added how long each stage takes for clarification, added a middle ground of not having it too fast to being too long to be effective.

no the suggestion is that the captain gets given sec hud when they spawn, like how officers are given cuffs when they spawn, I am suggesting it be more voluntary
-
cyborgs have no hands, they have modules which sprout out of them (at least how I see it). Overall, I agree with these changes, perhaps make a "medical gripper" for breathing masks, tanks, etc.
-
Maybe you didn't read the OP very clearly, because it specifically was posted about the fact that you cannot equip one via the loadout. ;p apologies, I had woke up fairly recently when I wrote that, anyways, perhaps a middle ground we can agree with is to allow the captain to spawn with them if they choose to via load-out
-
If they really want one they can equip one via loadout.

My response after this is; "I pm him about how his character cannot be the name of any famous people and I ask him to change his character, I will also inform him that this is a HRP server and that he should not be in possession of a toolbox and a fueltank." Change my response to; "I freeze him and ask him why he is attempting to blow up a fuel tank, and if he does not respond I will inform him that I will issue a temporary ban of 1 day and I remind him to look at the rules next time and warn him that further actions like this after the ban can result in a harsher punishment. Regarding this question, for the first three (technically two since the 2nd and 3rd are the same), I have improved since then and I promise that I am much more careful when playing as a cyborg and AI. For the last 3, the 1st one I was getting a circuit and other stuff to make a cyborg recharger in medbay lobby, I started queuing up my stuff when the RnD guy asked me to stop, I didn't want to be rude but I couldn't talk to him, so I told him in LOOC that I would wait. (If I got any of that wrong I apologize, it was awhile ago.) The 2nd last one I already covered in my sharp reply. The 3rd one was really surprising to me when I was bwoinked about it, as I have been doing that to "upgrade" the chairs to comfy chairs since I started playing drone a long while ago. I felt that the law where I could not interact with any crew may be breached if I don't touch a chair because they are in it, in retrospect I recognize that it would make more sense to leave it alone, but at the time I did not worry about it much since I did not notice that it was a possible breach in laws, as I never got any response from it until then from crew or admins. Either way I am sorry for any transgressions I caused by doing this. Overall I am sorry for my semi-recent notes and I promise that I have changed since then, and that I will try by hardest to follow the rules whether or not I get a trial, and that I will make sure to enforce the rules correctly and fairly if I was given a trial.

Sharp 1. The ic in ooc you mean, it was actually the opposite, the antag died and it was a very slow round with shuttle called, so I said he did a good job in ooc, I made a massive mistake in saying the name as well of the antag, and I apologize for making such an error. 2. Ben Smith was my first char, I don't play him anymore, and as you can see the records are kinda crap, I just put him on the list of chars since I played him before so I figured I had to. I plan on deleting the char sometime after this application is processed. 3. when you said 'multiple' accounts of ooc-ic, I am guessing you mean the one time I was messing with the audible emotes at EOR, I apologize for doing so and I do not do that again, it was a silly thing for me to do.

Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: No. Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: Yes. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Once a synth ban around a year ago, for a week, I assure you that I have changed and that I am much more careful about following my laws and usually consult admins and other trusted sources if I am straying outside my comfort zone. If I was given a chance and given a trial, I promise I will not disappoint.

What does it even do? Like stats
