  1. I need to dig up the stories of bored soldiers getting very "creative" when dealing with pests and wild dogs around their base camps while on deployment. Shit's gold. I think C4 was used in one instance.
  2. Please do. The thing is, the whitelist economy uses trust as a currency. You need to earn our trust, and we will, in turn, give you a whitelist. It's a very simple transaction. And in order to earn our trust, you need to prove to us, one way or another, that you can create and roleplay characters we consider up to par. At this moment, I am seeing a very flat character. It is not enough for me to place my trust into your abilities at character creation.
  3. The one thing I kinda want to do is remove the pounce unless they're around a red slime (Which makes them hyperaggressive). As pounces are the thing that get the most people, IMO. Or maybe a water/squirt gun.
  4. Breaking (personal) rule #n+3 here by posting, but I have a sort of similar character already (minus the leaving the clan outright and birb shenanigans!), so I figured I'd go along with posting an onion. Your story lacks any negative effects on the character, as far as I can perceive. Well, tangible ones at that. To an Unathi, their clan is made out to be one of the most important things. I can imagine this goes doubly for nomads and traditionalists. How did leaving his clan affect him, mentally? What (in greater detail) even caused him to go against his instincts in that respect? Second, in Skalamar, how did the other Unathi look upon him? While it might be easy enough to think up a lie and get by simply being there, if you start selling your clan tokens, someone is bound to look upon it in a negative light. Further, since he went that far, I'm pretty much forced to assume that he either completely vilified the Unathi culture, or literally did not care for it. Why is this? What cause him to be that way? And then there's the bit about the underground life. Usually used as a gateway drug to amazingly fantastical stories, here it's kinda just. It kinda just is, seemingly used as a convenient plot device on how he didn't outright fail at life or die. But a lifestyle like that is never so straight forward. It comes with threats and consequences. And yet, none of those are explored. As a summary, it seems that your character is simply not bothered by consequences at all. Nothing bad or worthy of consequence happens. He's simply moved along by plot devices.
  5. I've not seen a proper escape in ages. And I roll deadhour well into livehour. And this is wrong. You do not have to rush in there if it's obvious death awaiting you on the other side. Simply let him be dead: the fruits of his own failure. Xenobiology is a dangerous area, and there will be outbreaks. If our stance on this is to jobban people who are learning, and make rookie mistakes, then, well, it won't be a pleasant environment we're exuding. Current administrative policy is: jobbans are valid only if the individual releases slimes with confirmed malicious intent, or if they literally die 3 minutes into every single fucking round. In the case of latter, we'll talk to them and help guide them first, of course.
  6. He probably means the latter. Personality gives way to general mannerisms, which are valid salad for flavourtext, as long as their description is kept objective. Tone of voice is also fair game, though technically not visually observable, it can be used to describe a character's general demeanour.
  7. My main concern isn't anything really related to his strict standards, but rather his personality. People who are constantly sarcastic, and exude a negative or passive-aggressive demeanour tend to bring down team morale. A few applicants in the past have shown tendencies like that, and it did not sit well with the other mods and admins. It's apparently something we pick up on very quickly. After I talked to him, Dreamix appeared initially oblivious to this. He did also claim that he'll try to keep it out of msay and other mod channels, though I dunno whether that'll be enough. I guess the main interview (still to be conducted by someone else (I need to pester the head admins or something at getting these moving)) will show more. Imma remain cautious until then. Though a trial probably wouldn't be catastrophic.
  8. Oh, and an addendum to the proposal. I will then go through other admins, if I feel like you're being an issue, as I recognize that my judgement may not be 20/20 on the matter. Unless you're outright griefing, or some such.
  9. Let me just flip this and use your own words against you here: So it takes an annoyed motherfucker to know an annoyed motherfucker. Alright. (Though, if I'm correct, forensics used to be one of those, and literally the only difference right now is the size difference of the two toolkit boxes. And this has been the case for the past month, prior to that there also existed a bug with boxes for baggies.) I have a proposal. We both revert back to holding somewhat of a respectful attitude towards each other: I stop chewing you out, and you stop sniping over DSay, and we just carry on with our respective lives. And once all the stars and moons align, we can also have FBPs. Because, 200 file merge errors are great. The alternative to that is that we give the Head Admins and primaries carte blanche on how they wish to manage this complaint and the issue in general. (This will happen anyways, unless we're willing to sort this shit out between the two of us.) EDIT: two simple reasons why the code update was necessary: The amount of time it would have taken to make our code properly 510 compatible would have been months (meaning fun things, like unlisted server until such a time). Actually remaining compatible with other codebases, so we can import new features and backend support from other servers. Otherwise, we'd be relying on 1 - 2 feature-capable coders on making all of the features forever. Hint: that wouldn't work out too well, Nanako and myself have lives to take care of as well.
  10. To clarify, I meant a kick. I know full well that your conduct is not fully ban worthy without a proper administrative review and other courses of action being used first. To give long term background: ever since our code hop onto newer Bay, you have done little to nothing but whine and moan. We've cleared almost every issue, minus a few details which were left unimported and the IPCs/Shells, and are constantly working on adding more content while fixing the bugs we are able. We give our best, we really do. Obviously, bugs happen with code, with development. Literally no way to prevent them from happening, specially not the super obscure ones. For the short term perspective: the round before the one reported, we discovered that under some very specific conditions, mobs do not die properly. I guess you saw my announcement to that effect. So, round swaps, myself and Nanako proceed to test and discuss this. On come you, and your second and third lines in dsay (also on the server): Line 44647: [16:38:43] byg6Rf SAY: Ghost/K0NFL1QT : So organs are broken now? Line 44686: [16:39:13] byg6Rf SAY: Ghost/K0NFL1QT : This code downgrade is the gift that keeps on giving! Your attitude has been in this same vein for the last 6 months. I've made topics explaining the why's the and the how's. The first two months of the code swap, I did that on a daily basis. And I am very certain that you were told the reasons. Your conduct indicates that you quite obviously do not care. Very well, as you choose. And you are also free to have whatever opinion you wish. I do not enjoy some aspects of new code either. But understand this: your passive-aggressive method of complaining about it is ridiculous, specially when you consider that it has been going on for six months. (I won't even touch the issue that often times you just log on, go into dsay, and complain either about the code, or about something going on ingame. Nor will I question your reasons for actually still being here, with the previous sentence taken into consideration. That isn't here or now.) The shift in my conduct is very simple, though: If you choose to act disrespectful towards my own efforts, and the efforts of my team, without contributing anything constructive, then I do not feel the need to hold a friendly demeanor towards you. And I will use my administrative powers if you become disruptive, as is my job. Oh, and as a closing remark. If those sentences count as "critique", then I'm the motherfucker President of the god damned Republic of Estonia. Fucking hooyah?
  11. Since this falls in the purview of the admins, I'll flag the head admins to take care of this. If they don't, proceed with the lynching.
  12. Application accepted wayback when. Archiving for archival purposes.
  13. Application accepted wayback when. Archiving for archival purposes.
  14. Hold the hearts. Mob life() is about to get a review from latest Bay, and you'll regret touching hearts before I put that pull up.
  15. In most cases of this, you're looking at a defencive reaction. Know that emotions are contagious, so to speak, and we are subconsciously aware of this to a very high degree. This is why, if you walk up to a random person on the street and start wailing towards them, a good chance exists that they'll simply ignore you: they are doing so to defend themselves, and their mental state. This is also why environments where people tend to form close knit teams (the military, police, firefighters, etcetera), people with a negative outlook are very aggressively weeded out on the grounds of them lacking motivation: it is done to protect the rest of their future team. Now, yes, we aren't a bunch of strangers. But we aren't your bestest buds, either. In the majority, you can probably describe the rest of the community members as positive acquaintances, I imagine. There's a certain limit of emotional display that this sets out for you, before folks get defencive and start dismissing you in favour of their own enjoyment of the game. This is, of course, all reliant on you being negative and unconstructive at the same time. If you're constructive towards an issue, and have actually gone through the proper channels to resolve it, then they can suck it the fuck up Also, +1 to what the dude above me wrote. Pretty much covered everything I already wrote.
  16. Okay ladies and gents. As per the established plan, we were due for a new Head Administrator. However, after looking over some things and plans for the future, I have come to the conclusion that the server will be better off with us promoting two Head Administrators. And, at the same time, I'll take a step back form admin business and become the Head Developer once more. First up, who are we picking? Well, the decision proved relatively interesting. Shadow/Itzal had come back from a 3 month break; Serveris still a fresh admin, with 7 months of modding + adminning under his belt; and Garn is. Well. Anyways. Our decision came down to Garnascus and Itzal. Both are very active within the community and with the server, and both do very good work behind-the-scenes wise. In relation to this, all present admins, with the exception of Dea, have been promoted to the rank of Primary Administrator. The idea is, the Primary Admins will act as direct support for the Head Admins as they get adjusted, and in the future. Secondary Administrators will be promoted as necessary, to fill in the gaps in admin coverage. The final thing I'd like to address is the question of the transition. Well, unlike last year, I won't be up and leaving after a month. Unless I die or something. I'll still be around, to advise and guide the Head Admins as necessary. So, no retirement money for me, and let's see this crazy ass ride continue. Any questions, hit any of us up, or post down below! And sorry for the convoluted writing, I've been writing this for like, 4 hours, while dealing with adminhelps and the server!
  17. Ban is lifted.
  18. Okay, those should be all of the bans lifted. There were like, 10, from the time we had very aggressive ban-evasion detection. (Dw, it's still aggressive, just easier to lift now.) So it's still possible you might be denied access, on the count of a ban I wasn't able to find being active. If that happens to be the case, then please reply back with the ckey under which you attempted to join, and a rough time. I should be able to find it then and lift that as well.
  19. Admin talking, regarding calling ERT via fax. We usually permit it, but in the interest of furthering the round. Each round has a sort of natural progression to it, and ERT is apart of that. If we feel like the round is stalled and stale, and have a faxed request for an ERT, we'll roll with it. But we usually have them go through loops or general delays when dealing with things. Also, I do like Arrow's idea of delays. It'd be kinda neat. And it's also something I'm going to be partially doing: in one of my planned updates, malf AI will have the ability to "intercept" outgoing faxes and CC messages. This forces me to delay these messages by 60 seconds, at least, for the AI to react. Maybe 120 for faxes. Oh, and please don't think too hard about the physics of a game where FTL travel and FTL comms travel is possible. Realism is not a goal for the development team :l
  20. Original ban by Soundscopes, a literal metric tonne of dodge attempts and mirrors logged. Jesus. Okay, well, I'm up for giving you another chance unless anyone else objects. If there are no objections in the next 24 hours, I'll lift the ban and reply back.
  21. I'm not a fan. It would make kidnappings and whatever else very easy to catch up on. While I understand the point is to make the crew monitor harder to use, not only is this a bad way of going about it, it will also make it way easier to jump on antags as a result.
  22. None specifically. And before you jump, read the rest, please. Policy should never care about what specific social minority a subject for abuse belongs into (or does not). If someone's being abused, attacked, whatever, then that's that. The attacker will be dealt with under the 1st rule of the server, "Don't be a dick." No special accommodation shall be made for any social group: that goes against the principle of fair treatment. (Bare in mind, this is OOCly. IC is a bit more lax, as long as you're not being malicious.) And please also remain respectful of the rights of others to not give a shit, and to ask you to pipe down if you're being overly obnoxious. As Dreamix very accurately said: "No one has to care about who or what you are, we just want to play a game." So, just play the game, and everything will be fine. Oh, and it also deserves to be reminded that some memes and inside jokes about SS13 revolve around topics you may perceive as relevant to you. Such as lesbay. Please do recognize that they deal with a specific stereotype of player created characters, and are not, generally speaking, applicable to actual players. One addendum: No one shall be shielded from the opinions of others, and no reasonable opinion shall be rendered invalid because it, "Some social group is sensitive to it." Granted, due to the nature of the game and the server, there aren't many instances where discussions like this do arise. But if they do, the staff will not stop fair and even discussion of the subject, or any displays of opinion, as long as they are reasonable.
  23. Mkay, I've had some time to think about it. I'd say that in this particular instance, the act of pulling another ghost in to be the shell was a bad move. Why? Because the shard was, in this case, used as a tool of opportunity. Garn was fine with making the body uncloneable, specially if Brayce refused being turned into a construct (consider it a fair exchange), but then taking someone from ghostchat and putting them into the shell is just bad form. Not only because it's subverting the game's mechanics, but because it's also an unsportsmanlike move, in my opinion.
  24. Seeing as we actually have developers now, and the amount of stuff being pushed into dev cannot be tested by singular developers, I will be putting up the testing server every time we near a development->master merge. On that server, you can faff around and stuff like that (though note that the core rules do still apply: do something shitty/illegal, expect a ban from both servers), but it's highly recommended that you follow the testing procedure that'll be linked with every update. Active Pull Request: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/562 You'll note that there are specific bullet points in there that require fulfillment. Please try to orient your actions on the server based off of those, and report back (either by replying to the PR linked, or making a new issue) about them. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any developers! Oh, and the link to the server: http://byond://server.aurorastation.org:1235
