As it stands, the staff are slowly rolling over the rules and rewriting them. After which, the rules will go under a round of public review. After which, they'll be reviewed again by staff and we can have new rules. Why am I mentioning this? Well, mostly because issues like this tend to stem from the rules being unclear and ununiformly (someone get me the proper version of the rules, please) enforced. For some admins and mods, what happened was roleplay enough to validate it: Delta's character was being a butt, and got batonned for it. (Oversimplification I guess, but still relatively accurate.) To others, it was bad sec play, as per the rules about bad roleplay. The general idea is to clear up a shit tonne of issues like this in the new ruleset, and also help the admins and mods enforce it in a uniform fashion, as they were now there for its creation. Also. The general idea is, sec should have some freedom to be butts. It's called roleplay. But being a butt needs to be roleplayed in one fashion or another. And please don't give me the, "HE DIDN'T SPEAK TO ME!" crap I've been hearing too much of lately: words are not the only way to roleplay. And I can write roughly 3 paragraphs as to why this is so. As for clearer IC regs about sec play, maybe, maybe not. It'd just shift how the people complain, tbh. At least in this specific instance :l

Staff Complaint: Tainavaa and SierraKomodo
Skull132 replied to Kaed's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Here's what I'm thinking at the moment. Regarding Sierra, they were not informed by staff of the action taken against you, if any. Only Moderators and Administrators have access to information concerning punishments, other than the involved parties. It should be noted that the reporting party is considered an involved party. However, staff are kept to a higher conduct standard, a point enforced in the complaint against SueTheCake. Because Sierra is effectively under my own direction (by the virtue of being a Forum Moderator), and under the direction of Gollee (by the virtue of being a Duty Officer), I'll have a quick word with him and see what we want to do about the passive-aggressive remarks he put up onto OOC. Regarding the ruling of gank or no gank. Technically it is not gank (as gank is murder), but if such an action is done without roleplay preceding or roleplay involving the victim, it's just bad roleplay. As such, the way we determine whether or not it was gank/bad roleplay in this instance is to ask whether or not you had a valid roleplayed out reason to take the body of the Head of Security. Had it been your constant goal to take the body of the HoS to fuck with the sec team, then roleplay with the victim on some level, even if from other rounds, is expected. Though I'm more inclined to believe this to be a case of an opportunistic play, with the preceding roleplay with the sec team involved. It is bad form to take the body of someone who just arrived, yes. It is also bad form to just GTFO of a situation that is disadvantageous to you, and to quit the moment something like this happens. Actually, he didn't even adminhelp. Also, no notes nor warnings were made on your record for this. Just as clarification. 2 cents from Kaed and also Firstact regarding what I said above, please? -
A simple way to make it work would be to enable you to, for example, just click the Request Console with your PDA, and you'll then be notified on that specific PDA when a message arrives. Same thing for fax machines, maybe?

New Code Discussions: Shells v Androids
Skull132 replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
This can either be changed, or we go with this: The general gist is. There's no point in having the IPC race, and this as a separate thing at the same time. -
New Code Discussions: Shells v Androids
Skull132 replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
The thing is, IPCs weren't originally really meant to even be androids. Not by any extent. They are positronic integrated chassis, that were later evolved to also encompass Shells. The positronic brains themselves should be limited in access, yes. Mainly because, roleplay and lore wise, they are different from an android's brain: one is 100% synthetic, the other is a biosynthetic analogy. That is to say, a positronic brain runs a program, whereas an android's brain runs a human mind. Another note is, they won't gain IPC mechanics fully. They still require air, are susceptible to poisons/hunger/nutrition, etcetera. All of which an IPC is not. The only two mechanics that they do inherit, as far as I'm tracking, is an ignorance of pain and heat generation. (The latter will make them more difficult to play than an IPC if you want to go EVA, as you need both an air source and a radiator.) An alternative is to do what Polaris did, and completely remove IPCs and replace them with the androids. Then make the androids accessible to anyone with an "Android" whitelist. It would effectively stack on your other whitelists. However, at this point, we'd be removing most of the IPC mechanics as well. -

Skull132 replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
Posibrains could potentially be available for bodies that are fully synthetic, and also kept restricted to those who have an IPC whitelist? This way, non-whitelisted people could only play androids, not true synths. And obviously posibrains wouldn't be applicable where certain organs are kept organic. -
I actually, personally, enjoyed the slimes being weak to temperature as well. It gave the temperature gun an actual purpose. And gave another strategy to fighting slimes (Space them).

New Code Discussions: Shells v Androids
Skull132 replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
I'll have a set of images up tomorrow, if GMR doesn't beat me to it. -
So, here's the thing with the Shells. They require a review of all the code (Which, fortunately, I do have), and then an unknown amount of refractoring to make them less snowflake in terms of how the game manages them. This means, in short, that Shells require a lot of work. At which point, I would like to also look at an alternative to them. Polaris has a system whereby you can make a character that's a full android. Has an android brain, full robo limbs (including torso), and so forth. They also come with cool sprites indicating a fully prosthetic construction. The initial implementation in question: https://github.com/PolarisSS13/Polaris/pull/609 . Now, both systems have their plusses and negatives. Both systems will, at this point, take a similar amount of time to implement. My question is, which would we prefer? If we do go with what Polaris has, we will keep the monitor-head IPCs and fix their bugs/bring them up to spec with internal components and all that (minus my jiggery with their brute modifier). And anyone can become an android for the species they have whitelists for (minus Vaurca and Diona, for lore raisins). If we don't go with what Polaris has, then the standard Shells will return in all their snowflake-code glory. And life will continue as it was. Third alternative is to do what Polaris did, and completely remove IPCs and replace them with the androids. Then make the androids accessible to anyone with an "Android" whitelist. It would effectively stack on your other whitelists. (This is probably the best choice, imo.) Awaiting on GMR to post further details about the Polaris shenaniganry, as he's familiar with them.

Complaint - Abendroth - Approx. Jan 12th, 2016.

This just happened in a heist round. -
Well, the issue is, I kinda banned him despite the fact that he was not spamming. 0 day account and initial response coming off as stand-off-ish. Anyways, a quick code-fix later, and this is mistake won't really happen again. Ban lifted.

Staff Complaint: Tainavaa and SierraKomodo
Skull132 replied to Kaed's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Gank is defined as murder without roleplay. Roleplay does not have to be with the victim specifically, unless your goal is to kill that victim. The rule about gank even has this little note in it: If the wizard was indeed running from security, would the head of security not count as collateral damage? And at that point, would said collateral damage not be fer within the boundaries of acceptable? Further. No rules exist that deny the targeting of newly arrived characters. Is it usually gank to straight up murder a new arrival for no good reason? Yes. Is it gank to purposefully make an arrival zone inaccessible for no good reason? Yes. (It exceeds the note I quoted above.) Is it bad form? Eeeh, maybe. But there already exist a series of "Wrong place, wrong time," situations where wordless murder is permitted. (Sec officer walking up to a fully armed antag doing dubious things, for example.) -
What's hilarious is. No new stats have been uploaded since swap to new code. The market is bread, Jim.

Jesus christ. I told you that I'm checking with the admins. What part of that do you not understand?
-
I mean. why not just make the library accessible from the PDA? It literally makes no sense to use a ye olden library. Then again, just spitballing, whatever is more liked here.
-
I mean, think about it. You were warned twice in total. Once per rule. And you managed to break both of them in one go. Not even over a span of 2 weeks. EDIT: As a sidenote, and disclaimer. Due to my abrasive conduct in your thread, the management of it was given over to other admins from the getgo. It was locked by SierraKomodo (who technically should have posted this fact v.v ) and will be managed by others. Once I start being silly, I do recognize that line, and as such, defer control over to the others.
-
Unfortunately the rule you broke was literally the only rule we can instaban for. And considering the length of the delay that had already happened, and your previous notes (plus ban for similar stuff), I'd say my ban was valid. While we're here, please describe what you meant by "generally psycho"? I'll confer with the other admins and see if we want to reduce this to a weekban instead, while you do that. And getting straight up unbanned isn't something I'd like to do, because you broke two rules you had already explicitly been warned about.
-
Okay, but depending on your definition for "a general psycho", that's also against the rules, you realize? And yes! Shooting yourself in the head is a realistic way for suicide if there was grounds for it! But this was at the end of a round. After an already elongated delay before an update.
-
Please also explain to me your reason for doing it at the end of round, effectively violating the EOR Grief rule (which specifically states "No conflict is allowed on Central Command." This basically includes discharging of weaponry or any other form of chucklefucking). And please also do explain this: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=5218 Also. Your warning told you to read the rules about characterRP. This is one of them:

Yesss, but we want an example of what Frank can pull off. I actually wouldn't mind getting new soundbites, if they're good. Gives us freedom to do more shit.
