if (user.weakened || user.Restrained()) #return 0 Probably covers everything forever and ever~ (Note that all types of stunning use weakened to make you unable to resist anymore. So does too much pain.) I don't really mind either which way. we'll see what other opinions get posted.

You do realize this is not going to go anywhere if you're flat out ignoring points, valid points, in the argument on the basis of a personal grudge, aye? Separate the poster from the points, address the points, not the poster, hooyah? Hooyah.

All fine and good until you realize that interests in the IPCs was high right after their initial implimentation over a year and a half ago. They were always popular, for one reason or another. And in the old code, they were not all that different from hunams. Not even OP. And yet we had a large amount of applications pass through at that time. Your point is invalid. You are silly-aggressive for discussing this topic. I really don't get why. You presume the worst of your fellow players. I mean, I'd like to think that I'm about as cynical as people can get, but I still have faith in them to actually pick a race to play for the RP properties first and foremost. And I can bet you, on a large sum of money, that I am correct. Hyperboles are all fun and good until you read what I said. These are all whitelists issued over the course of the server's player database being up. Said database is 1 year old. We traffic anywhere from 100 to 250 unique players per day. (Stats outdated, and I broke something so I can't get the exact numbers.) If 100 of all, 8 thousand entries, have an IPC whitelist, then you'll probably be very lucky if you run into 50 player with an IPC whitelist every day. (Realistically, I predict the number to be closer to 20.) This does not take into account the fact that a player having a whitelist does not mean a person playing the race he has a whitelist for. So, really, you'll run into about 1-3 IPCs per round, if not 0. Though, in the interests of stats, I will be coding the game to send reports of whitelists used. As I am curious about how accurate my predictions above are. I'll just post this reddit thread here. It'll sum up my thoughts on aliens being human-like. I suggest reading all of it for a full picture. Yes. 5 machines, at worst, out of a crew of 30 or 40. This is the second instance where you've shown an inability to accept target variability as a valid ingame mechanic. The unfortunate fact is: it's going keep existing, as long as it doesn't get too bad. And all of the examples you've raised on the subject have been hyperbolic and moot. Ergo, I am of the belief that it is not too bad. (Not to mention the fact that Meowy was probably being half-joking, knowing them.) I have yet to run into a person who thinks like this. Again, expectations. I think you're projecting your bad experiences onto the playerbase here, and trying to put your thoughts into the heads of others. Exact same issue with this, as with the last one. Further more, lore existing does not promote lore regurgitation outright. Infact, our lore, for the most part, leaves so much open that lore regurgitation as you display it is impossible.

I don't. I'm sorry, I am unable to understand your mode of thought? First, yeah, we probably aren't going to be adding any new races anymore. We have enough. The Vaurca were an old, stalled project, though. And I think it's neat to have something to call our own on that front (albeit, perhaps not as unique as I would have wanted it to be). Second, I think you're making a mistake in presuming that this: That this is the reason why people apply for a whitelist. If this were indeed the case, would Diona, Vaurca, and IPCs not be the most popular races played? Well, let's investigate. Go here and see the stats for yourself: http://rsc.skullnet.me/workspace/phpPdoExample/test.php These are all of the different whitelists issued. Were your theory correct, one would see a lot more whitelists for Diona, IPC, and Vaurca. This is not the case, as you can see from the numbers. Then there's also the question of which races are most actively played on the server. There is no hardcoded way to get stats on that right now, though there will be soon, Scopes and I did investigate it back in August. The most played races at that time were Tajarans. Followed up very closely by IPCs and Unathi. Diona were, and are, as sparse as the Skrell and Vaurca. So your theory and claim lacks hard ground to stand on. This brings me to another point. The entire blight of the SS13 alien races is that they are all too close to humans. And yet, the only way to stand out from the crowd is to add a little, take a little. This is sort of why the Vaurca are glass cannons, same with IPCs, the Diona are ineffective in combat unless actually armed with a laser. They all have neat abilities yes, but also drawbacks that guide these abilities to be mostly utility based. And even then, and this is the main point, I still have enough faith in our playerbase to think that very few of them actually share your mentality, and believe that most of them are interested in a given species for other, more RP oriented reasons. Onto the second point in original post. This one: I don't even know what to say about this, tbh. Surely you understand that mechanics enable and make RP, right? Mechanics enforce lore, and create an environment in which to roleplay. I truly do hate to pull this card, but I've been on this server since the start. I have seen humans do the, "Examine how snowflake I am," routine a hundreds times worse than most alien characters. Ergo, it is not locked to aliens only, as you imply it is. And at the end, I have never seen lore, of all things, be used as a substitute for RP. I don't even see how that's possible? What do you mean by this?

Okay, so. This has been discussed before, but I'm honestly too lazy to go and dig up those topics. Instead, let's just go at it again and actually make it happen, if there are no glaring objections! The idea is real simple: instead of every shift forever starting at 1200hrs, and the characters being subjected to going through the same day for about 5 shifts in a row, why not link the game time to real time? Take the real time that's on the server (Chicago time), round it to the closest 30 minutes (to prevent oddities in code, really), and then let the in game tick on from that. It would make continuity easier, remove a few silly questions as to when dates are rolled over, etcetera. It'd also make deadhour an actual IC thing, being the very early morning shift (between 4 and 10 station time), as per this graph: So, thoughts?

It actually does work on IPCs, because bad code. -
I do agree that ooga booga is shitty for gutter, tbh. I'm in favour of changing it!

There is research that outright proves positive reinforcement being better than negative reinforcement. Quite a lot of it, in fact

There are only a maximum of 4 people on the station LI-d at all times, though. All of them known, as well. Only the Captain, HoS, and IAAs (a max of two) are LI-d. Everyone else, 60% of the heads of staff even, are valid for enthrallment. Plus, if you really want to enthrall someone who's LI-d, make it into your objective. Acquire the tools, the minions, the setting to capture a captain/HoS, and to remove their LI. And then make them into your slave. Anyways. Removal of LIs and their existence can be discussed in the suggestions boards! -

To further add. There are some mechanics that staff override ingame. Usually one of the main ones is lings getting LI-d: we permit them to bypass it, as it makes sense for their race. No one has ever tried to enthrall an LI-d person before, so we assumed it doesn't work. When it did, the admins acted as per the freedom they have in issues like this, and overrode the mechanics. The failure, though, comes from the fact that we didn't inform Judge, as we should have in a case like this. And we apologize for that. As an aside, the code was patched today to make enthralling LI-d people impossiblé. -
Application denied for reasons stated above.

Frances - Moderator Application
Skull132 replied to Frances's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
*Looks at the ground where he's about to rest his foot.* "Yup, I see those four prongs there. Oh well." Jokes aside, this application is getting denied. First off, introducing FFrances to the team would create more issues in the form of internal conflict than FFrances as a member of staff is worth. This comes from the person who worked very closely with FFrances as a Head Administrator. Secondly, after being around for the two to three months that I have been, I've developed an understanding that FFrances' idea of "Fun" and understanding of the server rules are not in line with the server's mentality nor that of the rules. Her instances on matters like this has ended in a few complaints against her, and even this thread. Lastly, to further exacerbate previously mentioned issues, at present she is an admin on another server (private though it may be). Bluntly put: not interested in whatever can of worms that can open up. Never have been, never will be. -
Had a discussion with Delta about this beforehand. Effectively, the staff's issues with Delta are things that a Trial will not prove nor disprove, as they are long term ones. One of the key points being Delta's ability to swing from extreme to extreme, which would end rather badly were this to happen in administrative dealings. We'll keep our eye on Delta, and if come recruitment cycle none of the old issues have popped up, and he still wishes to apply, then we'll accept him as a trial. So, until then, application denied.

Cobracoco007 Mod Application V1
Skull132 replied to cobracoco007's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Last seen 06DEC on the server, 01DEC on the forums. So effectively inactive right before we started the second trail cycle. Sorry bud, better luck next time! Application denied. -
Application denied. Over the course of this application being up, we've had to have multiple discussions about rules and so forth. As such, you pretty much fail out on the requirement to have a working experience of the rules. Maybe next time!

ReBranded Player Complaint: PootisManiac
Skull132 replied to UnknownMurder's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Moved and rebranded as a player complaint, as it does not fit the purpose of a ban request, as clarified here: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=4732 -
On a daily basis, how many geneticists do you even see, mon ami? I see close to 0. Proportionally speaking though, genetics is probably one of the highest chuclefucked with roles. Do mind that I'm going off of my gut feeling, and roughly how many geneticists I've had to take issue with breaking the rules, compared to the ones that don't. There are usually legitimate reasons for stigmas and stereotypes existing.
-
No. Borgs are all access machines, highly resistant to damage, armed with a flash by default, able to ignore pain, fear, and space law. The entire point of them is that they have all of the above, but no hands. I'll see if I can find an ancient thread on the same topic, and have YeahChris explain why the answer to borghands should be "No".
-
You are limited because there is a very present history of abuse with said powers. The stigma assigned to geneticists is very rightfully earned by they themselves. And no Melkior, I was referencing an old project focusing the internal differences of the different species. Different organ structures, properties, functions. And the application of those structures, properties, and functions in other species. Tbh. I kinda just want to yank away the powers and create something with actual fucking depth. Because argue as you may, the superpowers lack depth. Even the dna is identical between species. Like. Wat. That makes nooo fucking sense.
-
Yup. It lacks utility. As I said.
-
Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner! This question is exactly why Baystation removed genetics from their code. A little knowledge of SS13 history will have you find that genetics is a TG station creation. TG's mentality is a lot different from Bay's and from our own. The original purpose of genetics was to give people cool superpowers to fuck around with and to, to use our terms, chucklefuck with. But that sort of play wasn't an issue there. It is here, though. Let's face it: genetics is only there for the cool powers. It has no utility beyond generating super soldiers, and even then very few geneticists think about others after getting TK/X-ray. This is kind of why I wanted to replace it with biology: hopefully something with greater utility and depth coded into it.
-
I'm waiting for the argument that said geneticist will just back up his data so he can be cloned afterward. Which would effectively be Deus Ex Machina. Ergo, just plain shitty RP.
-
Consistent long-term radiation exposure literally kills people, Melkior. Pain or no pain. A geneticist doing self-testing on a regular basis would probably end up cutting years (if not decades) off his own life by doing so. And do keep in mind that we're talking about doses high enough to force mutation in the human genome. So please, no, "But x-rays are safe!" type of excuses v.v The doses involved in genetics are way-way higher than that.
