1. CCIA Staff Application Basic Information Byond key: DasFox Character names: https://gyazo.com/c0b6511653bb41fdac0e07c73fa0cade Age: 43 Timezone: GMT-4 Normally, GMT+2 at time of posting What times are you most available?: On an average day, anywhere from 8AM to 11PM. This includes while I'm at work, as I've a rather laxing job I can log in for. Experience How long have you played SS13?: I've been playing SS13 since ~2004, mostly on private servers and never anything serious. However I started playing again on RP servers in ~2012, if not early 2011 due to a renewed interest in both the game and the RP communities of the internet, not having found a 'home' anywhere else. For Clarity's sake, this BYOND Key itself is not the only one I've used over this timeframe. How long have you played on Aurora?: I've played Aurora for almost going on a year now, if we don't count the long break I took from the server entirely. Altogether I'd say my time played over the months themselves would be about four months of days I've logged on (Not consecutively such as hours, but 1 login per day is that day.). How active on the forums, discord and/or server are you? I tend to not be to voicey on discord servers, however I do log into the server that I actively play on, which is at this current time Aurora, almost every day when I can for a round or two. Beyond this, I tend to check the Forums whenever I've an active application up every six to eight hours at the very least. Otherwise I try to log in once a day, which I normally forget to do unless I remember to keep tabs on a PR or a post that I was interested or disagreeing with. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Yes, so far it's been twice on baystation12. I've had some long-standing issues with the staff there, and I suppose they ban for the slightest disrespect as harassment. I'd rather not name names or get into it here, unless it's absolutely required of me. Beyond this, I've not been banned from Aurora, even though I've likely been skirting the line for a while now. Have you ever volunteered as moderation staff for any other servers, SS13 or otherwise?: I have, yes. I've done so once for Aurora, once on Bay12 (before my first ban), and I've also moderated on Polaris (albeit temporarily). Beyond this, I've managed a Community for a Streamer for about two years (and sadly left on very bad terms with them.). I also currently moderate a friend of mine's streams and his streaming community, which is a significantly smaller and less time-consuming task than my prior one. Do you have any other experience that you believe would be relevant to a position in the CCIA?: I've both moderated, and managed in an IRL and Online position. While I may be a little rough around the edges at times, I do put in time and care into what I do, regardless of my attitude on the matter. I've a tendency to occasionally get irritated, though overall I like to believe myself usually level-headed when it's needed. Personality Why do you want to join the CCIA?: Beyond a want to just help and fill the slots, I actually enjoy an equivalent of 'Human Resources', both ICly and IRL. It gives me something to work towards beyond just sitting in the server doing whatever, and the satisfaction of other people knowing their complaints are getting addressed is a decent goal to get towards. What do you think are the most important qualities for a CCIA Agent to possess?:I believe Patience is up there on the list. You wouldn't get far being impatient and rushing someone through a complaint or not taking your time in dealing with it thoroughly. Beyond this, being correctly Impartial in your decisions even if you hold opinion on it. Synnono also raised a point of availability, however that's likely more of an OOC rather than IC thing, but noteworthy. Equally as important as the rest, being consise and clear with their speech, as well as respectful is also incredibly important. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is in an ongoing round?: A CCIAA is the direct answer to any questions or directive requests from Station Command, and the people all reports are sent to. A CCIAA is trusted to respond quickly, and efficiently to Station Command and make sure they're correctly carrying out orders from Central Command, with the duty to relay those orders directly. CCIAA Are also able to, in a current round and when scheduled, interview personnel who are part of an ongoing Internal Affairs investigation. But above all, when not required to, to not step in and change the course of the round unless absolutely necessary. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is outside of the server?: CCIAA outside of the server are the people who handle IC complaints and shape the face of 'customer service' on Aurora. I think instead of being a punishment side of the spectrum, CCIAA are more like the guidance that new players should turn to in regards to how to correctly act in a HRP environment. And while Moderators are equally as, if not moreso, important than a CCIAA; CCIAA hold the ability to complete strike characters from the game if improvement on an IC standpoint doesn't improve. While Moderators enforce correct rule-abiding behavior, CCIA enforces correct Role-Player behavior. How do you handle stress?: I handle stress quite well, I think. I do tend to get rather agitated at times when responding to things as a player, however I like to think that stress caused by something like this wouldn't be quite the same. In fact, when I believe I'm doing something for a benefit, I enjoy stress. It gives me a bit more reason to push through and keep working, y'know? How well do you work autonomously?: While I extremely enjoy having people to lean on, I can work decently well on my own. Though when I'm new to something, I almost always ask advice and guidance from my fellows, which can be co-workers or the like. Beyond this, when knowledgable, I prefer to work alone due to the slight irritation I may exhibit in my day to day due to a rather abrasive personality at times. Additional Notes: While I can't attest that I'm the best candidate for the position, I do rather enjoy my time on Aurora and my return was long overdo to be entirely honest. So here's to hoping!
2. I personally just don't enjoy Guwan characters. In my opinion it's a little too easy to write a Guwan Orphan, as they're all about the same in terms of upbringing and there's not much diversion. Not like I can talk, I wrote a dang Maraziite as my whitelistee. I haven't had many interactions with their characters, however they have been positive so far. So a negative and a positive in my regards, so I'd say it's a +1/-1, I can't lean too far in either direction. I'm unsure how they'll play their character wholly, but I look forward to seeing it if they're accepted. + gives me another Orphan to pick on.
3. I'm most certainly not. Kidnapping is taking someone against their will, which you did. It doesn't mean binding someone and forcing them into a maint tunnel or something. Iirc Synnono was the person playing the CCIABA that round so he can chime in if he wants. But as I said, this isn't a player complaint. Only me expressing my grievances, as I don't think you'd do well with a whitelist.
4. I more meant by that, that it's not impossible IRL, so it shouldn't be impossible in game unless someone changes how Synths learn, or an administrator specifically bans it. Anyway, regarding this, I've gotten my piece in. We've talked through it, and I think we both come to an understanding and we'll agree to disagree that the note was necessary.
5. If this were a MRP server, maybe, but imo in HRP, you'll have those that're 'overqualified' for positions. If Rail were a CMO, we wouldn't have the discussion at all. It's almost expected for CMOs to do everything in medbay. If he were a Skrell, we also wouldn't be having this discussion. If we make exceptions for them, why not make exceptions for those that have been around long enough to learn a separate skillset than needed in their current position? If you regard say, A Surgeon having say, Virology training, being a virologist when all surgeons are dead and doing surgery as cheating, there's a major problem with this. I will agree Neurosurgery is a little over the top, but again it's not, nor will it be impossible unless dictated by a head administrator, or changed by Jackboot in the Synth lore for their ability to learn or something. 'Strict' isn't 'fascist' when regarding roles. That's how I see it at least.
6. Hello Coalf . I'd like to point out, A Psychiatrist requires an MD in the first place. A psychiatrist with an MD specialization isn't as rare as you think it to be. Maybe being a Neurosurgeon is a little over the top, but it's not impossible nor should it be treated as such. Especially in a world such as this where IPCs can just immediately learn a specialization. Note the Psychiatrist in question would need to be rather old, perhaps in their late 40s to achieve this degree. Yet Rail is one of the oldest IPCs if I recall his discussion with Cake, and as such I'm 95% sure he'd have the time to get a Neurosurgeon specialization normally anyway. Onto Swift, an IPC with a Paramedic specialization, I'm not so sure about this one but I don't see a problem with it. From my point of view, if there was no one else and they had the ability to, they can. But, honestly I do not agree with the Dexalin+. As it requires Phoron to mix Dexalin, I think this would be a little harder to mix ICly. If you can mix this, you can mix most medications that don't require Phoron, imo. But that's just me. Anyway, a Paramedic IRL having knowledge of another medicinal field isn't unheard of, as Paramedics don't go through the same training Doctors do, and as such may still take that training and go through it at a later date. Learning from say, A Chemist or a Doctor in game wouldn't be impossible either.
7. If I recall correctly, as I was the RD you failed to listen to the entire time while /kidnapping the captain during an extended round with telescience/, and severely disrespected the bureau head when he came, to the point you dodged questions and claimed to be the 'forefront of the field'. But this isn't a player complaint, so I'll leave it at that. I'm simply voicing my grievances with you, as I don't think you'd make a whitelist, or give credit to any race you could pick. But this is my opinion, and I'm sure others have differing ones.
8. I still don't think I have access to it.
9. Honestly; From the experiences I've had with your characters I don't really think you'd be a good whitelistee for /any/ race. You're very egotistical ICly with all of your characters, you've shown blatant disregard for superiors orders in the Science Department already if you actually plan on playing this character. You've gone so far as to have CCIA launch formal investigations twice and have a Bureau Admin come to the Aurora during an extended round, whom you didn't even bother being respectful to. I'm going to have to give a -1, I personally don't think you'd make a good Dionae Whitelistee. History has a habit of repeating itself. Especially with you.
10. Meh; Honestly, I feel this complaint isn't well-grounded as you're only giving examples that look severely outlandish, which would be v rare anyway. As someone who plays on the server a *fucking lot*, I can confidently say while Odin is a goofball, he's not out of the norm for IPCs. And Talc, one who I have little experience with, is still someone who can (and will) be mature, and a good officer when needed. If your issue is the laid-out issues with IPCs and the quirks in their personalities developed to make them who they are, I'd suggest poking Cake with a complaint and getting people to sign it. Otherwise; changing a single IPC when they're following their lore is a little asinine.
11. ParadoxSpace It was after. I converted Talc, at least, early on and had Noir and Talc forcibly convert Odin. This was within the first... maybe 30 minutes ish.
12. Allow me to clarify, since you don't seem to get it. All IPCs themselves are subject to quirks of being a free intelligence after a slaved intelligence. Gaining sapience from sentience with the snap of a finger. As such, literally just calling someone 'nerd' or messing around with friends in and of itself isn't unnatural for IPCs, especially IPCs who aren't that old to begin with. Beyond this, IPCs have only been in manufactories within the past 20 years. As such, We haven't had the decades to iron them out as we do Cyborgs or other bound AI. I mean, Cake can correct me if I'm wrong but yeah.
13. I disagree partially; You call for help from the company, you should known when to step down and let them do their work, without trying to order them around like more security forces. Emergency Responders aren't just standard Mercenaries, they're mercenaries hired by NanoTrasen with the express purpose to unfuck situations people let be fucked. I will agree with this partially as well, however. The captain should still have authority over the crew, however not over the Emergency Responders. I'll agree with taking the ability away from them to simply kick the captain out of his position like 'hey you cant run shit anymore', because I'm guilty of doing it, however I've only done it twice and that's when a CCIA had to be called to make sure our resources as an ERT aren't being wasted. To finish, I both agree and disagree with this change. While I welcome the captain keeping his authority over crew, I will not stand by for ERT simply being treated as extra security forces, when they're not.
14. I'm glad someone else sees it like I did at least. But yeah, while I'll welcome additions to Psychiatry, I think we need more futuristic options instead of, well as Jackboot aptly put '19th century french psychiatry ward'. If given time, myself and Aimless can come up with better options that'd make more sense to be on a space station, to treat these disorders. I have no issue with the Chaplain being involved in some way, but exorcising mental disabilities isn't quite how I'd like that piece to go down. Since it's not quite realistic, we could always add demonic possession as a 'mental disability'. Like we have Imaginary Friends, and Split Personalities. This would give the chaplain more to do, make exorcisms actually mean something. Medication for these traumas can also be based on real-life equivalents, if we're just treating and not curing. Otherwise, a new medication will need to be thought up.
15. When I think electroshock therapy in a game, I'm thinking a literal electric chair. If that's not what it's being used as my apologies, but it's not used where I'm from nor is it legal, so I go off of where I am. I should say, its very clear that it's not safe based on the 'drawbacks' of it from the PR itself. Which is what I'm going off of.
16. No; I'm all for making treatments that'd make sense that don't fuck with people as they would if you're trying to implement it 'correctly'. And I fully expect things to be added for it, not that any of our bitching is going to change anyone's mind. But not a cure-all be-all of mental issues on station. It makes no sense, if we could do this in the first place, why not just make a drug that cures it? You'd be achieving the same thing, and Psychiatrist can still be the RP centered role it is without having change like this. But that's not quite what this is about. The issue I have is these treatments are illegal currently, and even HARMFUL more then they are good. The ones brought up in the PR would be acceptable 500 years ago from current game year, but its' been 500 years. And being as NT is a mainly-human corporation, and Zundy can tell us whether or not humanity has done anything with these in the past so many years, we're going off the assumption it's going to be treated as it is now. Like a crime. You're not going to setup an electric shock chair on a spacestation to cure mental illnesses. You're not going to tell the chaplain to exorcism mental illness from a patient, that'd simply fuck them even more. Have you ever gone through a man, screaming at you with a bible in hand and a rod of obsidian trying to purge demons from you, when you're schizophrenic or paranoid? I'm sure that'll simply end well anyway. Beyond this, Isolation Therapy would be literal torture. 'Therapy'. Its a very wrong term to give something like this, you're locking someone away and doing absolutely nothing with them. This isn't inducing RP, like I can maybe understand the chaplain doing. This is locking someone away because they're ill mentally and hoping to god it'll fix it. This is worse than giving people amnesia from ECT. Look, I understand the want to add mechanics to the Psychiatric role, but I think we need to do it in a way that doesn't involve literal torture methods as 'therapy'. This is 'fun' if you're a sadistic prick. /endrant
17. I entirely agree. As a medical professional, ECT in and of itself is always a last ditch effort and is /very frowned illegal/ to be used in many countries.. There is no way in hell I'm going to standby with this as a primary option for care of a patient. Nor will I literally let a fucking electric chair be in my medical bay, ever, we're not an execution ward and we all know it's going to be used as it anyway. With my little tiny rant out of the way, we've gone 500 years into the future from when ECT would have been acceptable as a primary care option, and with technological superiority over it and drugs that literally cure 95% of any injuries you can get (literally everything besides bone repair), there has to be better options than "Strap to Chair>Shock the shit out of" Beyond this some of the other therapies are even moreso retarded to have in this game, as the role itself is RP and it shouldn't be long-term solutions as stated.
18. MAKE is a pretty cool IPC. Though I admit a raincoat poncho is a little weird for a normal on-station person, it does fit into his aesthetic. I'll give a +1 Plus who doesn't like a good Poncho Gang™
19. Trial Mod 2, The Electric Boogaloo. I'll give a +1, RTN seemed like they were doing well in their last trial that they had to step down from for IRL stuff. So +1
20. -1 bad ligger. But no, in all honesty I've had good experienced with a few of his characters. Irusole, Delta, even Ku. I think they could make a good whitelist, and hell their story was even better than mine. But that's not saying much, I'm not talented in literature. In all honestly, Skrell are rare and I'd like to see more. I like my squidbois. +1 from me, queen of bad decisions.
21. I presumed as much. ^.^ Yeah, that's all good for me.
22. TishinaStalker I fixed the sprite thing. <3
23. I didn't want the item, I wanted use of the sprite. But I'll get another thing done then and remove it from the app, and leave the mask. Edit- Misread that. Sorry, Yeah, I'll get another thinggy done, sorry! <3
24. I get it's a little overdone, but I like the idea. Plus I don't RP them as 'Unga Bunga all unathi listen or die'. I prefer knowledge-keeper approach.
