  1. yeah dude more useless shit, please can't get enough of it lately with pens making click noises and all can we also get clothes' hangers or drying machines?
  2. borgs are overpowered they take an obscene amount of hits to be disabled, and they have no pain so they can just move at full-speed while wounded they also never fall or get stunned their kits are also as OP as they are, especially medical and engineering so. the devs have decided to counter this by implementing a one-shot-kill weapon specifically for them and IPCs who are equally OP which is a shitty and cheap way of granting them a weakness, in my opinion anyways, the solution is to nerf Ion so that it damages synths, maybe make it a beam instead of a huge AoE thing also nerf borg kits because they are OP
  3. Standing still for 5 minutes doesn't sound like a good idea, maybe it works as long as they are within the line of sight of each other?
  4. The gimmicks would be weak Traitor rounds are great when people actually take advantage of character relations But I'd suggest that if someone rolls traitor, they should have A CHANCE of renaming re-modifying their character But, yeah
  5. pretty sure painting the floors falls under station modifications so if an engineer just grabs it and starts drawing a pink dick in medbay lobby, feel free to arrest them, unless the CE supports it iff the CE supports it, uh- sucks to suck, i guess
  6. Before anything, I liked the fact that you offered Coal(f) feedback on his stuff, I haven't done it myself, really. But I don't think I can count that as a huge plus on your application, but again, still, kudos to you. I didn't really understand this, really. Central Command sends announcements and faxes to the station pretty much every round. Do you mean the Agents? Well, they don't really visit the station either. They do hop on board to grab people for interviews, but... they don't really chill around, which I wish we could, at times, but that's the story for another thread. To address my next point I'm going to quote the answer to one of the questions entirely. So, sorry for double-quoting. It is a change of pace indeed, and well, playing as an IAA with slightly more power and slightly more regulations may be interesting to some people out there. But, what if you don't like the change of pace? You only ever really said that you want to join, because it sounds interesting, and it may change things for you. What if you try it and just don't like it? Would you simply quit, then? Personal focus in staff teams like CCIA is only detrimental. Most staff teams only work because people sacrifice their times so that things are in order. Look at Abo for god's sake, he lost so much hair answering tickets, or Syn, who practically did the entirety of CCIA work and more while people were dealing with their finals. Or Chada, who was pretty much the only active Wiki Team member before Burrito Justice (god bless their soul) showed up. If the team is not in your vision, that's bad news for the both of us. Another problem is, though, that I see your application has a lot of fluff in it. It practically refers to the text being lengthened by unnecessary information, or involving repeated points. Your first application was shorter, yes. But your answer to the "What's the role of a CCIAA in an ongoing round" pretty much proves my point. Quote is as follows, for reference: This is a paragraph, sure. But what it's saying could be summed up in two sentences. While CCIAA do tuck a lot of fluff into their faxes to make it sound more bureaucratic, I can't say that I appreciate the method being used in your application. Another thing here, and possibly my main argument, is that you're missing the point. You've described how CCIAA process Incident Reports, to a semi-correct extent, sure. But the entire point of the whole thing is to solve problems between crewmembers. You've never mentioned anything akin to that. You've said that CCIAA respond to the faxes of Heads of Staff, sure. But you again, we do it to answer queries about ongoing events, approve/disapprove actions, and receive paperwork. You've mentioned nothing of this in your application. My final point regards an Incident Report that was directed to your Warden character, pardon me I don't remember the name. I am not going to share the details, of course, but in the course of the entire Interview, I couldn't get you to say more than three words. All your answers were as short as they could be. It just felt like you didn't want to be there, really, which I can understand. Incident Reports are half an hour of chair RP, it's not for everyone, but- -when you're applying to be the person who conducts the IRs in question, it kind of is ironic. I can understand that you might've been in a mood that day, or I'd say you had to go, but you really didn't looc me anything, so it's hard to tell. Take this last one with a grain of salt. Also take this as a "your RP could improve". All in all, I have to say that I cannot support this application. You've missed the entire point of what we're doing, and solely explained the steps that we take. you think for yourself, and not the team, and your RP/responses could be much more longer and detailed. I suggest applying again, once you've looked deeper into CCIAA work, you can feel free to ping any member of the CCIA for your questions regarding procedures, or heck, even overall run-downs. You also may want to pay a little more attention into your RP, but I can say that you certainly are on the right track. -1
  7. oof
  8. First off, I do not want to be that guy, but I'd like to point out the responses you've received to your moderator application, which you made on the 27th of May. The link can be found here: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=11244 It'd be wise to give this a gander before continuing on. I am willing to disregard most of your first application, as it was older than the second, but the second one was made on the May 27th, that's about a month and 12 days from the date I'm typing this. I do not believe too much that you can pull the "I've learned a lot from it" card, considering that the responses you received were about the bwoinks you've had. If you'd "learn from it", you'd have learned from it at the times of your confrontations/bwoinks. The second thing that I see in your application is an abundance of grammatical errors, as well as typos. As the entire job of CCIA is communication, both IC and OOC, this is a lot less than acceptable, really. You should pay more attention to them, it's one of the major problems in your application. Apart from that, I find the "If this application ends up being denied, I will use this feedback to improve myself even more." part rather cute, but your mod application being denied, and your second mod application being somewhat lacking like this one gives me a sort of vibe that's telling me that you're applying to become a CCIA because you've been denied by the moderator team, and that you're trying out the other option. Hey, I might be wrong, but CCIA and Moderation teams have a lot more to them than pretty Discord/in-game colours and verbs. CCIAA are not really lite-moderators. Some might argue that we are just that, but I digress. They're two entirely different branches of staff. Apart from that, RP is pretty crucial to being CCIA. Incident Reports and whatnot must be conducted seriously. I don't really believe that in your current state, you can carry out a successful interview, or type a fax in return to something obscene, akin to: Either way, in its current state, and in yours, I cannot really support this application. I suggest that you take a short break from applying to staff positions for a short while, and change the views about you in-game. Sorry if I am being a bit too blunt. Have a nice one. -1
  9. Slipping on gibs makes Changeling a joke.
  10. ERT has 2 people on a good day, this’d reduce it to zero.
  11. You know how people can sometimes do CPR accidentally when grabbing, or examining bodies, right? I've done it before, at least And I'd hate to actually break someone's fucking chest with it
  12. It is becoming kind of obvious that this thread is more begotten from frustration than anything because I am starting to having to repeat myself CCIA does have ways of obtaining valid knowledge, much like how a real case would work in internal affairs, really If testimonies match, we've a high likelihood of a fact if they have no correlation, the opposite, and we also have ways of clearing those we can either call people in for secondary interviews, or check radio logs, as those aren't really meta-information if there is a case where there is lack of evidence, it will be stated, and as far as I'm concerned, none of your cases had actions taken despite a lack of information And I'm not really sure you've justified why the consequences your characters have suffered should just fly away, as there was solid evidence that proved their guilt, from what the CCIA was given People lie in CCIA interviews, people lie IRL to courts, you don't see courts checking the attack logs of life to see if baldy mcbaldo did attack crafty bill, not much more we can do spare checking radio logs and AI feedbacks from camera feeds Wrong. There actually is plenty of evidence that make one side's testimony more credible than the other's, much like how real investigation works, if one has lied before, their credibility drops significantly And how do we determine lies without meta-knowledge, you ask? Matching testimonies, giving weight to the witnesses', but it doesn't stop there Once we suspect a lie, we don't just call someone out on it, we tend to press them with it, and that's usually where it falls apart And it's not like assailants in reports don't get the chance to defend themselves If an accusation is made on their person, CCIA are pretty much obliged to hear their defense about it I do appreciate the effort, though. My job'd be much easier if I could base it on chat logs
  13. If the organisation the entire purpose of which is to investigate certain incident is not equipped to properly investigate such incidents what exactly is the reason for its existence? If you don't have any means whatsoever to deal with misinformation you might as well just flip a coin on an incident report to determine the result. And you don't need a whitelisted person to flip a coin. Not to mention flipping a coin is not something that is generally considered a distinctive proof of guilt But, we are equipped? We talk to witnesses, either sides of the conflict, check radio logs if required. But do remember that we are not mods. You cannot claim that your OOC innocence will grant you immunity from any negative actions. In pretty much all of the cases you use as evidence, the CCIA spoke to you, the other side, and decided that the arguments of the side that is not you are more credible, and have punished you. And the fact that you wish for any and all CCIA actions on your characters to be removed here- Also proves that you just really want the CCIA to use meta knowledge so your characters won't be punished in the future.
  14. Okay, so. Even though your unfitting and distasteful title and the borderline jokey tone you've in writing this pushes me not to, I shall reply lengthily to your "concern". But before that, i'd like to state that CCIA deal with IC. We look at what your character says IC, versus what the other says IC. We are not moderators, we do not check logs apart from really crucial radio-dialogue. It is possible to represent yourself poorly to the CCIA in interviews, and there can always be mistakes. You cannot report the entire CCIA for acting IC.
  15. Alright, so. I know that engineering is kind of a circlejerk right now, giving empty +1s to each other, but I'll do my best to not stick to the formula. Geevo is someone who's pretty much every race whitelist ever, so it's not a surprise that his biography is well-written, touches on different pieces of lore, and is accurate. The application has no grammatical errors from what I can see, and it's well-made in general, so kudos on that. In terms of mechanics, he knows his shit, and he knows it well. The only thing that concerns me is his knowledge about Atmospherics, but I'm pretty sure he'd be able to learn the advanced aspects of it relatively fast, with the help of myself, and Flamingo, who're more than eager to help. His OOC attitude is well, and rarely if not ever have I seen him have problems with other people. I'm sure he would be able to solve any problems relatively easily. His RP is definitely above a 7, and I've personally witnessed that the shifts we played together. One thing that might pull him down a bit is the fact that he may have an untrustworthy vibe due to playing antag waaay too fucking often, but that's IC, and I'd rather have people remember that. Overall, I'm sure you'll be an alright CE, really. Just calm down on making plasteel spears. (!) +1
  16. A couple of things, but do feel free to take it with a grain of salt as I'm a fairly new IPC player myself, and had my first app denied due to questionable RP. First off, I can appreciate the 'curious robot committing a lot of taboos and acting really socially awkward trying to learn' gimmicks. What I don't, however, appreciate is when your character becomes naught but awkward moments and annoyance. And I'm sorry, but you do tend to do this a lot. This picture above pretty much sums up the way you're trying to portray a synthetic, and I think you're just trying too hard. I understand that synthetics, no matter how emotionless are objective they are in lore, should have some personality, but what's important is that you do not stray too far from the concept of being an emotionless synthetic with a programmed ego. If you're looking for examples, there are a handful of people who nail the concept, like CRASA the surgeon, who behaves feminine, and is generally adorable, or the silly GETT the scientist, who's missing a few robotic chromosomes, or Cheshire, the stern CMO with an Australian vocabulary and an even more Australian accent. These are all memorable characters, and they are pleasant to RP with. They are unique, they portray synthetics nigh perfectly. After my first application got denied, I learnt from them, and then tried myself out by playing Android. I openly invite you to do the same before you apply- even though you already have. Another problem I see you've is grammar. You tend to misspell things, and you've a tendency to not use punctuation in your sentences. This is also rather clearly noticeable from your application. I'm not meaning to make fun of you anything, so I'm going to include a single example of this to support my claim, and then move on. Third point, your character biography makes little to no sense to me. Take this with a pinch of salt, though- as it might as well just be my fault, but allow me to go deeper into it. The name, A.I.S.U stands for Analytical Investigation and Simulation Unit, and they're meant to be working as a Forensic Technician. I can understand Analytical, sure, Investigation, makes sense- But 'Simulation'? What is it simulating? Is it simulating the crime-scene within its processors? Why not just A.I.U? Either I'm misunderstanding, which is likely, as I cannot seem to comprehend the meaning here, or this sentence means that your synthetic is programmed to follow the orders of Corporate Law (I'm supposing you've meant 'follow' instead of 'enact') and higher staff- But it's also programmed to... not follow them sometimes? I am honestly confused. The biography is lacking its construction, how it'd end up on NSS Aurora, and it's pretty much but a description of the unit itself. In conclusion, I don't think I can honestly support this. The application is lacking and your RP has room to improve. My suggestion is to take the characters I've listed as examples, and play Androids, as they are fairly well designed to create an understanding on how to RP as synthetics. -1
  17. excuse me what the fuck
  18. How's anyone supposed to benefit from this? It sounds like something that'd discourage people from using the radio at all. Rarely, if ever do people 'magically know the name of the person who is speaking' when they meet someone new, or an antagonist uses the voice synthesizer, and even then do people usually ask who that person is. Extremely huge -1.
  19. I'm pretty sure you can snipe where the AI core is by using mesons, after digging towards its general location, but again, I've never seen an engineer (not CE), do the exact thing. The AI core is designed to not have multi-z level defenses because it cannot have multi z-level defenses. The defense mechanisms of the server, especially for AI, are extremely poor, and the issue with digging its top and dropping random shit in it is more of an OOC exploit than anything, at least from how I've seen it, and how people have talked about it.
  20. Seems like a personal issue that you do not enjoy Malf AI gimmicks, really. I have quite enjoyed most of them. The point is, I do not want to go deep into it, but as a CE main myself, I strongly believe that rod-dropping is an exploit, and should be banned all together. Now that I think of it, why are we even blocking the AI's topside to prevent rod-cheese, instead of just treating rod-dropping like the act of powergaming it is? Most of the time, AIs won't be able to see the rod-drop coming, as it's outside of their camera coverage, and even if they do, they'd need to alert an Android, so that they could be moved. But here's the thing: Unless there is an Android who exists to move the AI for the duration of the round, the AI will get killed by dropping rods. Cheesing the AI with rods isn't be a strategy, neither should it be one unless the AI gains a way to counter it efficiently.
  21. Slow you down? From cheesing the AI again? I honestly disagree. People do not 'rod-drop' the AI because they are scared that they'd get bwoinked for it. People do not do it because it's pretty much well-known at this point that it fits the definition of powergaming. There is pretty much no way an AI can protect itself from getting rods dropped on it, and the chance gets even smaller when you realize that the AI doesn't have camera coverage one z-level above it, so it'd also have no idea what is coming for it. AI being able to get cheesed by rods isn't an intended weakness, it's a game exploit. AI gimmicks are the most entertaining, in my opinion, they also do require the most build-up. Imagine speaking to Command, hinting towards them that you may not be the automated-door-opener that they've expected you to be, slowly build up abilities, get your Androids to be upgraded before you reveal yourself, before you finally start taking control of the station and its systems, locking people away from each other, and maybe call an emergency shuttle and try to force them off it. Or maybe you wish to activate the nuke to end the round with a bang. Now, imagine that your entire gimmick was done for 65% through because you didn't realize an engineer cycle out of the airlock, north of security, and drop some random shit onto you, and now you're in ghost-chat! Doesn't really sound that nice, right? I dissent, undoing walls, digging and whatnot as a non-engineer will warrant you a nigh-instant bwoink, and I don't really believe that the spot above the AI would be marked with a red X. Given that, I don't think turrets are that necessary on the z-level above the AI core. But, what I think is necessary is to fill the circle of reinforced walls, with more reinforced walls, so it becomes harder to breach them.. Now, in terms of changes, I certainly do like them. Toxins blowing up Cargo Maint has been an issue for the longest time, and I can see how this'd be able to fix it with a simple solution. In terms of the AI core, however, it's going to be doing its job partially, as the walls can pretty much still be undone, but it seems fine to me, to discourage newer CEs from committing themselves to the instant death that is getting the SS13 equivalent of a Pharah ultimate on you.
  22. BYOND Key:AlFalah Character Names: Evangeline Du Dancion, E.V.E Species you are applying to play:Integrated Positronic Chasis What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: IPCs fit the futuristic theme of Aurora that I really enjoy, and their ability to rapidly learn, and their disability to fully understand human emotion and empathise make them a fun-to-play species in my opinion. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As synthetics, they’re ruled by their pre-programmed utilion values, which is to mimic a non-synthetic’s sense of ethics and morality. As different numbers can be assigned to different utilion values, they have the ability to see the greater good, just like humans, lest they are programmed to. However, unlike non-synthetics, their utilion numbers cannot be changed due to occasion. Character Name: NT-R014198, Alice Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs In the year 2458, NanoTrasen experienced a noticeable decline in overall staff. Besides searching for additional employees, they also made the decision to emphasize the increased presence of synthetics in the workforce. However, not wanting to outsource more than they already do to Hephaestus who generally holds such a monopoly on the creation of synthetic frames, NanoTrasen began producing their own synthetics for use in the workplace. Thus started the development of an AI, in NanoTrasen’s relatively new Department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence; since to them, an AI they’ve made would be much more efficient and trustworthy, as it’d be programmed with only NanoTrasen’s best interests held in mind. After the development had finished in the year of 2559, the department decided that it would be for the best that the personality was kept within a positronic brain, and was subjected to interaction with organics to best suit it for localized work. After a short amount of testing, intelligence NT-R014198 was confirmed to be fit for duty aboard NSS Aurora, bearing its own strengths and weaknesses. It could process and use data at a rapid pace, even by synthetic standards, allowing it to operate faster. The only flaw it had was its passive personality, where it’d usually prefer attending its own business, but it would accurately respond to verbal inputs, and answer them accordingly. Acquiring a Baseline frame from Hephaetus Industries for a moderate price, the positronic brain was placed inside, given the ‘nickname’ of Alice by the small team which developed it, for it to appear more approachable, and for ease of operations, to be shipped to NSS Aurora as a Scientist, mainly to attend RnD. What do you like about this character? Not completely understanding the concept of human emotion, it is rather entertaining to RP some level of miscommunication, as well as a synthetic’s struggles to scientifically learn the process of thought, to be able to understand them better. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7/10 Notes: I appreciate any and all feedback!
