  1. That sounds pretty reasonable to me. Pretty hard to stealth combat borgs.
  2. How much do you think the buff would change the balance of rounds?
  3. Generally speaking, the character I've seen on-station the most is Sovereign Aegis, who's a pretty cool synthetic. As well, more bug online is always a good thing. I can't say anything really insightful about the backstory or anything, but I like the general concept of an observer vaurca. +1, if that means anything.
  4. Ah, I understand now. I'd say one of the main ways his method diverges from the norm is his near-absurd use of repetition. He would attempt to repeat a process, assembly, experiment, or test multiple times, in order to see almost every possible outcome. For example, if testing the effect of oil slime extract, he'd test that 20, maybe 30 times to see any differences in the times it takes for an explosion or the radius of it. It's not super out of the norm, but it's still a divergence.
  5. Alright now, onto the questions. Sorry about the wall of text, I'm not exactly sure how to do spoilers. 1. From the lore page regarding the New Gibson hive, it stated that the VR network used had various cells, each depicting various species and the like. In the description, it was said that "The largest cell by far, however, would be the one dedicated to humanity. Scay’extiih’aur's best scientists pour over and experiment with the simulated humans, documenting their responses." And I found that interesting. Viez is not necessarily invested emotionally in various non-vaurca races, with forming relationships and such, but they're invested in how each various species reacts to situations. That was one of the reasons Viez was sent out of the hive, to document each various species, what they do, et cetera. I'd see he's interested in studying and recording what they do, but in a detached kind of way like someone would react to a particularly interesting mouse. 2. I'd say that due to the Zo'ra victory in the Hive War, Viez believes that the Zo'ra hive would emerge victorious once again, though they hope that the massive casualties sustained in the First Hive War wouldn't happen again, as it'd be much harder for a hive to sustain itself. As around 1.5 million vaurca live on New Gibson, Viez hopes that, in the event of a Lii'dra attack, the hive would be able to hold out, if not successfully defend itself, for a while. However, some of this is probably wishful thinking in Viez's mind. 3. To be honest, I'm not sure if I completely understand what this question meant. Do you mind elaborating? I didn't see anything about a test on the lore, though maybe I wasn't looking in the right places. Do you mean the psychological test? 4. While Viez has never disobeyed his Queen's will, he does hold a particular passion for the study of xenobiology, I.E. the many nonvaurca species. I haven't seen that many vaurca around the station, so I can't say if he acts any differently than any other vaurca. Hopefully, I understood your questions correctly.
  6. I'll edit the backstory in a jiffy so all the stuff checks out regarding the job, after which I'll try and answer your questions, if that's alright. I had asked a question about vaurca scientists on the lore discord, regarding PhDs and stuff, so I'm fairly certain I misunderstood some answers. But hey, I've never been lab assistant before. Should be something new.
  7. BYOND Key: Wigglesworth Jones Character Names: Samuel Wigglesworth, Fulton Skaw, Charles Hepiner, Edward Sholl, Szymon Nowak, and Rick Prescott. The last three are my most recently played. Species you are applying to play: Vaurca. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): RGB 71, 0, 31. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: In general, I was looking into playing a Xeno. As well, CommanderXor recommended applying for a Vaurca whitelist. Personally, I consider Vaurca one of my favorite alien species, alongside Diona. I enjoy in general the more alien mannerisms of Vaurca, as well as their general insectoid looks. I've already made one transhumanist character, but I think that the transvaurcanist "thing" is a little different, as it encompasses the Vaurca species in general. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Vaurca, as I said earlier, are one of the much more alien races present. I'll list the mechanical differences first. Vaurca breath phoron gas, and eat k'ois, and can't wear certain things, due to their biology. One major difference, in my opinion, is the hives, which all vaurca are a part of, which (obviously) has a major influence on every vaurca, due to them valuing the greater good of their respective hive. Vaurca castes are also another difference, with the Unbound and Bound, workers, warriors, breeders, et cetera. Vaurca anatomy differs greatly from human anatomy, with augmentations strongly used in Bound Vaurca, but that isn't fully relevant to RP. There's a not-insignificant level of friction between Vaurca and Humans, due to the recent appearance of Vaurca, and the Lii'dra attack on Sol. Vaurca values are also different from normal humans, and I find that the worship of the Virtual is quite interesting, almost giving me an Adeptus Mechanicus kind of vibe, which I can dig. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Viez Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs As like all Unbound Vaurca, Ka'Akaix'Viez Zo'ra was given 6 months to develop their brain, after which they were given a neural socket and fed information through Virtual Reality for the rest of the year. As they were born on the icy planet of New Gibson, the home of the Hive-net relay, under the Hidden Queen Ta'Akaix'Scay'extiih'aur Zo'ra, Viez had taken an interest in science, xenoarchaeology specifically, spending their time in the cellular zoo known as the Takk'ta'yat, studying various past species and civilizations encountered with some that have long since been lost to time. Viez has taken an interest in humanity in general, studying simulated versions of them in VR, like many others, and studying various pieces of data regarding their history. Once the end of the year passed, as the Hidden Queen wished to gain more information about humanity and non-vaurca in general, Viez was given the appropriate augmentations for interactions with other xenos, such as an oxygen filter and communications augments. After the augmentations were installed, he was assigned a job with NanoTrasen in the field of science, to Viez's excitement. After the appropriate forms, training, and contracts Viez left the icy tunnels of the New Gibson hive to the NSS Aurora. (EDIT: Changed some parts of the backstory to fit with the mechanics.) What do you like about this character? Their interest in history and the studying of various species, for one, could provide some material to work off of. Also, they're a bug, which is something I like, as bugs are the superior race. Along with that, as he's my first non-human character, I think it'll be a nice experiment to stretch out my abilities. I haven't played in science for a LONG time after a mishap in toxins did a bad thing, so it'll be nice to get back into the swing of things. I think his background will provide some fun material to play with too, RP wise. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd say 6 or 7 out of 10. I really don't know how I compare compared to other people, but I can at least type proper sentences. Notes: I think I've played around a year, now, maybe more. I really hope I didn't mess up anything regarding the lore. Also, I've had some issues with validhunting, but nothing note-worthy, luckily, and I've been working and stopping that. Blame that on me migrating from LRP servers like /TG/ or Hippie. Also, yeah, the backstory is a little barebone, but I'm honestly not that good at thinking up stuff like that. Tend to develop it more as I go along.
  8. Man, this sounds fun, but the logs might be an issue, yeah. I'll hold off on +1ing or -1ing for now, I guess.
  9. I, Edward Sholl, Warden Level One, Security, would like to register my interest in this gathering.
  10. Knew what happened as soon as I heard about it. Hilarious stuff. With the logs from the raiders, it's even funnier. +1
  11. I'm a fan of this idea. We could get some transhumanist characters made with cybernetics. +1
  12. I think this is a great idea! A break room would be great.
  13. Of Xor's characters, I have the most experience with Sean Richter, and I do enjoy interacting with him, both as a nonantag and an antag. I'd say Xor's a fairly competent roleplayer, from what I've seen. +1 from me, if that matters.
  14. I'd say Trazz is a pretty skilled RPer, from what I've seen, and I enjoy interacting with them OOCly as well.
  15. Saw it cause you advertised on the server, I like the sprites. It's pretty cool.
  16. BYOND key: Wigglesworth Jones Character names: Samuel Wigglesworth, officer. Fulton Skaw, chaplain, psych. John Sloane, bartender, cook. Edward Sholl, warden. Charles Hepiner, gardener, janitor. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Around a year and a half, normally everyday or every other day. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I believe I’ve played long enough to try and apply, can RP well enough to be one, and I’d like to get more job options for any future characters I’d like to make, as well as wanting to grant my already existing characters the chance to be promoted. Why did you come to Aurora?: Saw it on the hub one day, decided to try it out cause I’ve only played on LRP (/tg/ and Hippie to be exact,) before it, and I’ve kept on playing since then. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Well yeah, it’d be pretty dumb if I didn't, wouldn’t it? Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is playing a fictional character in a fictional world (unless you’re playing in a historical or modern setting.) In Aurora, as it’s higher RP, you aren’t just playing, you’re being a realistic character with hopes, goals, fears, etc. Along with that, you’re playing with around 40 - 60 other people, each with multiple characters, so it feels like a living breathing place with everyone’s own little character arcs and friendships and rivalries. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Heads of staff are the backbones of all the departments, as they spend their managing the people in their departments, less than being out on the field doing everything. For example, a Head of Security will coordinate with their men, ordering them what to do, in order to make sure the station runs smoothly, not running around with a carbine in hands arresting people themselves. Along with that, they are to help guide newer players in game. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players are naturally held to a higher standard IC, but OOC they are supposed to contribute to the round, make it enjoyable for the other players, and act more realistically. Along with that, like above, they need to encourage roleplay, whether by going out and talking to people, or by negotiating with Mercs who’ve taken people hostage. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Edward Sholl Character age: 34 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Edward Sholl was born in a poorer region of Sol in Old Earth, to a veteran father and drug-addicted mother, with 2 siblings. Growing up, his 2 brothers joined a local gang, and both died in a shootout when he was 14. Edward saw the effects of gang warfare, which led to him wanting to join law enforcement, an act which his father supported. After his mother’s death in an industrial bread mixer, Edward left his hometown and went to the New Seoul Combat Training Center. While in it, he became much more pro-human due to his fellow students, and along with that, became a trans-humanist, believing that synthetic life is better than organic, due to their intellect, strength, and rationality. After graduating, he joined NanoTrasen on the NSS Cephus, working there for 10 years before transferring to the NSS Aurora, working as a warden. Shortly after being transferred, Edward’s limbs were replaced with mechanical prosthetics, along with his heart and eyes. What do you like about this character?: I like his philosophies, and he’s willing to discuss other viewpoints and respects them, even if he doesn’t agree. He’s more-or-less competent, and is generally loyal to his superiors. He’s pragmatic. What do you dislike about this character?: Well, he’s condescending, mostly towards Unathi and Tajara, as he sees them as “primitive,” or “underdeveloped.” He can be a huge prick, is power-hungry, somewhat selfish, and is kinda petty. OOC, his backstory can be developed on, seeing as I’m still actively developing it round-by-round. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Sholl is pretty competent, having been interim HoS 2 or 3 times during crises, and is pretty by-the-book. He’s been training to be a HoS as well, asking for advice from his bosses. He is somewhat calmer than some other security personnel, and is pragmatic (which I hope is a good-ish thing for a HoS), I.E. wanting to abandon a hostage instead of returning the bodies of 2 mercenaries. He is generally calm and can lead around averagely. IC, he’s worked for NT ISD for 12 years, so he’s pretty loyal to NanoTrasen. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Really only started RPing on Aurora and Bay. I’m not BAD per say, but I can definitely improve by emoting more and some other stuff. Had some issues with powergaming (I did normally play on /tg/ and Hippie before coming here,) but I’m trying to avoid that. I’d say I can RP a variety of characters, whether stupid, gruff, or semi-charismatic, etc. All in all, I’d say I'm a 6 or 7. I’m still trying to improve it as I continue playing. Haven’t really gotten any real complaints about me, so I must not be that bad. Extra notes: Kinda apprehensive about making this, cause I’m worried I’m gonna get my shit kicked in. Also, I’m not really expecting to get this accepted, because I normally don't post on the forums and I haven’t played for very long compared to other people, but hey, might as well try and at the very least see what I can improve through the feedback.
  17. Yeah, I was a cultist that round and the rune limit was one of the main reasons why we lost. None of us really knew where the runes were.
