BYOND key: CampinKiller Character names: Marc Price, Matt Price, M.O.T.H.E.R., Mike Fisher How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A couple months or so. I played here before I went on hiatus back in July, so no idea what the actual time is. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to be able to play (Marc) Price as HoS, and I've always enjoyed playing Command staff on other servers. Why did you come to Aurora?: Because I enjoy roleplay. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is acting out a character who is playing a certain role in a world/story/whatever. This includes acting out a character's thoughts, emotions, actions, etc. It should be about creating an interesting story that isn't just fun for you, but for the people you are roleplaying with as well. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff entails multiple roles. On one hand, new players will look to other players (esp. the head of staff of their department) as a role model, and as such a head of staff needs to act as a role model. On the other hand, the head of staff is sort of like a moderator on an IC level, and needs to ensure the people in their department are doing good roleplay and not chucklef*cking. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: To provide a great roleplaying experience by being able to make decisions that further the roleplay of a round, and provide the management of the station. They also serve as rolemodels for newer players when it comes to roleplaying properly and performing the duties of managing a department properly. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Marc Price Character age: 37 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Marc Price was born on August 14, 2420, in the megacity of Dallas. He has an older twin brother, Matt, who was born 7 minutes before he was, and a younger sister, Amanda, who is 7 years younger than him. His early life was uneventful, as the middle child of two hardworking parents. Upon entering grade school, he began playing ice hockey. Throughout school he consistently underachieved, preferring to focus on athletics rather than schoolwork, which resulted in him graduating high school at the age of 18 with a 2.9 GPA. However, as a result of his athletic success, he played Tier I Junior Hockey, starting at the age of 17. Marc would eventually be drafted by the New York Rangers at the age of 19. He would split time between the Rangers' AHL affiliate and the NHL team for the next 2 years, before suffering post-concussion syndrome after an injury in a fight towards the end of his 1st full season in the NHL (his 3rd season overall), and retiring as a result of the injury. In the months after his health-related retirement, Marc grew increasingly depressed and turned to drinking. By the time he turned 23, he was an alcoholic in every sense of the word, and his post-concussion syndrome still bothered him most days. A few months prior to his 24th birthday, he decided to enroll in an alcoholic group therapy program, and also applied to NanoTrasen's Internal Security division, going through their year-long cadet program. In May of 2445, he graduated the cadet program, becoming a full-time member of NanoTrasen Internal Security. Since then, he has been posted at a number of different NanoTrasen facilities, and has only recently been transferred to the NSS Aurora. As of his 37th birthday, he has been sober for 14 years. He is now seeking a promotion to the level of a Head of Security, having recently received his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, and an Associate's Degree in Computer Science. What do you like about this character?: Not a snowflake. No dead parents growing up, not some war-hero combat vet type who will never be afraid of anything ever, but an Average Joe who needed a job, found work in NanoTrasen, and built his career from there. Also, he normally tries to conduct himself with professionalism, though that doesn't always happen in extreme situations, or with people that have angered him. Also, he issues warnings for minor crimes, usually. So there's that. What do you dislike about this character?: Regulations whore. For the most part, he'll have no problem shoving someone into the Brig for violating minor and obscure regulations, though he usually reserves that for people that have either been warned previously, or have been a complete pain in the ass. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Besides meeting the basic requirements, Price is competent. He knows how Security should work, and how the people in Security should do their jobs. He also knows that some officers just don't want to do their jobs, or f*ck around while doing their jobs, and would just love to fix that issue. While he doesn't like paperwork, he knows that it's almost never used, or filed for that matter, by most of Security, and knows that that is a problem. Also, when it comes to Officers and other Security members behaving inappropriately or otherwise violating Regulations (which can be common), he's not going to let them slide, or issue a warning (except for the most minor offenses). Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 8/10. I feel I'm a good roleplayer, but have room for improvement. Extra notes:
-
I do, and I ignore it, to the best of my ability. Since it always happens around hockey season, I figure it has to do with a combination of the cold and my chest pads rubbing against my back

We are extremely impressed with the progress of the LES-COM project thus far, Commander. Your recent results have been beyond our expectations, and that is not a statement this Council makes lightly. Remember, we will be watching.

As someone who was there, I think the airlocks were unbolted because they never originally opened and were unbolted by the AI/a borg. All I saw was the drone move left and the door open, so, seems like an accident.

Player Complaint: Chaznoodles (Josen Keelin)
CampinKiller replied to CampinKiller's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
That would be Johnson, as I was only on Sec comms at the time. Point of clarification: If I'm not vastly mis-remembering, that Officer actually specifically said they didn't have a problem with Rin being arrested, only with Rin being thrown into solitary from the word go. Yes, I recall Sur'kov saying (and making an IA complaint to that matter) that they did not agree with the instant-solitary sentence. Johnson thought she was innocent from the get-go. -
Oh man, played with him a round when he was Warden, and when he was EMT. Love him.

Player Complaint: Chaznoodles (Josen Keelin)

Please, enlighten me as to when my character neglected his duty and disobeyed orders prior to the Rin escape. Also, the part about the officer manifesting symptoms is a lie, given that I played said officer and never had any sort of symptoms. Also, Price never uttered a word over public comms about you, or called for your arrest prior to the Rin incident. In fact, the only time he really said anything over Security comms against Keelin was when he was violating procedure and causing arguments to flare up with other Security members/threatening them. And even after the incident, he kept anything about it out of public comms, and on the Security channel. And I did not say she was cuffed when you began to beat her with the baton in the prior post. She was down after the first hit, with 5 bullets in her, and not going anywhere. A logical person could probably conclude that she was subdued at that point, and seconds away from being in handcuffs. -

Just because I called you a fuckboy at the end doesn't disprove the rest of the post. Git gud, lad. Just because you got salty over failing to order around your superior, then failing to arrest said superior, doesn't give you the right to pull a fast one and make a complaint in an attempt to moderate the sodium in your system, and remove someone you dislike. :^) I'm not sure where you get the inclination that I was salty, at any point, considering nothing bad really happened to my character IC (besides a demotion with a solid 2 minutes remaining in the shift). I just consider the way Keelin behaves to be utterly unacceptable as a head of staff. I'm also not sure where you get the idea I dislike you, considering when I worked with you as staff on Colonial Marines, I actually was one of the people who defended you before Apop removed you. However, if you want to continue to call me a fuckboy for disagreeing with you both IC'ly and OOC'ly over your actions, that is certainly you prerogative. I could see whacking someone a little extra, but the punching followed by 5-6 solid whacks from a baton, on someone with five bullets in them and surrounded by a team of Security, who clearly isn't going anywhere, seems excessive to me, since the baton bashing probably helped stop her breathing, and the punches after she was breathing again from CPR just outright killed her. I highly doubt NT would keep/hire a HoS who beats suspects to death while in custody, and continually stirs internal trouble in their department for the better part of the round. I would disagree it wasn't justified, given these: Excessive Force in Detainment: Repeatedly batoning a prisoner after they've been handcuffed... Severe Use of Excessive Force: To put a victim in a near-death state in defence of yourself or others, or seriously injuring a suspect while attempting to detain them. At minimum, Keelin was in violation of at least one of these, given she was put into crit and stopped breathing as a result of his actions. IC'ly Price insisted on Manslaughter, given that Keelin actually killed her when she was in handcuffs. Well, given that the 3 other people who had touched Rin had nothing wrong with them, I don't see how it's a logical conclusion to go,"Clearly it was Rin who infected me." As a side note, the only reason I made this complaint is because the way Keelin has been played, that I've seen over several rounds, is absolutely atrocious, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. If someone can honestly behave like a baldie Sec Officer as a head of staff, then that is a serious problem in my opinion. -

Also, I feel it necessary to mention that you had, per regulation, committed manslaughter when Rin died, which is why Price was telling you you were under arrest. When you hit him with the stun baton, he was not remotely happy, and decided that you most definitely had to serve brig time. To add to that, you justified this by always acting in the interests of NanoTrasen per your implant. However, when given a lawful and valid order by the Captain (and demotion) you subsequently refused, and said something along the lines of "If there's a problem, Central will tell me," which doesn't add up at all with you following your loyalty implant, given that the Captain is above you in the chain of command. -

Actually, when you got shot, you were disarmed and they immediately opened fire. Tasers, apparently, don't go around tables, so me shooting did nothing. Al-Hamani, the Detective, managed to shoot her about 5 times before you started beating her with a telescopic baton (which floors in 1 hit anyways). And I didn't corner you - in fact, after starting CPR I never moved until you shoved past me to beat Rin anyways. Re: Metagaming, they're still locked up in the communal brig, and not going anywhere, and if they did, you'd know (assuming you put in the tracking implant required by regulations). My main issue there is that people get locked in solitary and left there to rot, with their only choice to SSD or sit around and hope something happens. But, yeah, the rest of that post just proves my point, with the utter load of ad hominem attacks against me, my character, other characters and players. I'm not sure if you expect personal attacks are really going to get you anywhere, but it's fairly amusing regardless. Your behavior only proves to me that you shouldn't be whitelisted if that's the way you see anyone who remotely disagrees with you or complains about you. -

She hadn't broken out of handcuffs, she just stood up (with 5 bullets from the Detective in her, mind you) and shoved one of the 4-5 people in the room over, to which Keelin hit her with the baton. The first hit floored her, and after that, just critted her. The only reason she got out of cuffs the first time was she glared the officer cuffing her probably a half-second before she would've been cuffed. But even then, continually beating someone after they've been shot and are on the floor seems excessive, even for someone who was shot. -
BYOND Key: CampinKiller Player Byond Key: Chaznoodles Staff involved: None (Garn/Alb if you count getting the ckey/asking if it is a complaint or IR) Reason for complaint: Metagaming, behaving in a way a Head of Staff shouldn't, beating arrested players to death as HoS (basically, behaving in the way someone with a head whitelist shouldn't). Approximate Date/Time: 01/05 @ approx 8:15 PM Since the round involved antags, I was directed towards a player complaint. While I don't have screenshots, as a result of the logs scrolling off the page, Josen Keelin (aka Chaznoodles) was metagaming the vampire Rin Fukuimoto, after their arrest. First, he ordered her to be permanently locked into Solitary, without much of a reason. He claimed it was the charge (Sexual Assault), but solitary is reserved for excessively violent/insane prisoners, and Rin was not either in this case. He then later came down with some virus, and claimed that as a reason, saying it was her that infected him, despite the 3-4 other people who she had touched and were completely fine. He did this, it seems, to keep her locked in the Brig with no chance of escape after her vampiring was discovered early on, despite having no indication she had done anything beyond the Sexual Assault. (For note, the Sexual Assault was not ERP, but what we charged her with after she was caught doing vampire things). Fast forward, Rin is set free by an officer named Kyle Johnson, who was against her arrest from the get-go, and (may?) have been enthralled or charmed by Rin somehow. She shoots Keelin in the face with his e-pistol, and she is then restrained and cuffed, being injured in the process. Keelin then, for whatever reason, stands up and beats her with his baton several times, forcing her into crit. I (Marc Price) start CPR, and right after I get her conscious, she does the glare, and floors me and another officer. Keelin then charges in there and literally beats her to death, for no reason other than "she was trying to escape." How she could possibly have escaped, in handcuffs, and injured with bullets in her, I do not know. Shortly after, as I (Price) tell him he is going to be arrested for Manslaughter, he says "Get out of my way, fuckboy" and then floors me with his baton. It should be noted, he continually referred to other officers as fuckboys (not an offense in and of itself, but it was ridiculously annoying after the 50th time), and acted more like a spoiled brat than a head of staff, throughout the entire round. In all, Keelin behaved more like a baldie Sec officer than a Head of Security, which is absolutely ridiculous behavior from a whitelisted player. To be honest, I don't think he should keep his whitelist after witnessing something like this, given past incidents I've seen Keelin involved in. I would prefer just hiding the vote totals and keeping the round type as "Hidden" once the vote is completed, without announcing the outcome. Another server (Apollo to be exact) does just that, and while I can't attest to the affect it has on metagaming, as I don't play there often, I'm sure it helps.

Been trying to connect to the server, but I keep getting an error message saying DreamSeeker has stopped working. Help me, please.

Funny Quotes and Shinanighans from Aurora's characters

Also, because the cool kids are doing it: I've played with Hypatia a lot as Security (especially considering Security is what I normally play), and I think she's a good character. She actually knows what to do as Security (aka, isn't a shitter), and is good for making RP. Also, she follows most orders, and the only times I see Hypatia disobey, or at least question orders is when the order itself is a very questionable order. Is that really such a bad thing? What's wrong with there being a character who doesn't mindlessly follow every word from their boss like it's from the mouth of God? What's wrong with a character who gets pissed off when they feel wronged, or that their boss is endangering them? Banning someone because people get some salt over an aggressive character would be absolutely ridiculous.

Err? Blatantly refusing a loyalty implant when everyone in Security was forced to get one, due to almost everyone in Security revolting against the HoS? Threatening to kill anyone that came near her? Resorting to lethal means to incapacitate people even though they had a full Sec belt? Blatantly refusing two Heads of Staff's orders? Take your pick, there's no "Oh it was just a Rev round" argument, this was after all the violence and carnage was over; But there were still Revs running around, converting people. Hypatia chose to waste our time and threaten us with death just because she wanted to pull that shit, and it ultimately came right back in her face and got her killed, along with about six people exposed to several EMP grenades. Literally everyone in Security was loyalty implanted. Hypatia wanted to be special and stay free just because, and threatened to kill anyone who wanted to change that. I wouldn't blame Hypatia resisting considering that she helped protect the HoS, and squash the mutiny at the time. And again, rev rounds.

Player Complaint: TonyWillslt, VileBranches, and Others
CampinKiller replied to LilSh4's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I was the double agent, Marc Price. While the Heads were a bit metagamey (ie. shutting down people who were speaking out), the same can be said for some of the revs, who just randomly started gathering in the Chapel and wanting to mutiny, 'cause...reasons. Anyways, after the RD was attacked, I was reporting the outcome over comms out infront of the Chapel, when the Chaplain (Azazael, a head rev), randomly comes up to me and asks me to join the revs. I immediately declined and reported to the HoS that I had just been asked to join what appeared to be some sort of mutiny or otherwise nefarious movement. I was then asked to join them in order to learn who was a part of the movement/mutiny/whatever it really was. So I went back to the Chapel, and eventually joined. Fast forward to the Briefing Room situation, and I knew for a fact that Alder (I believe that was his name) and Goodwin were a part of the group, and suspected that a couple other officers were as well (given the statement from Goodwin that "there are more of us in here" when he suggested attacking the HoS). I warned the HoS, and Goodwin has meanwhile gone around whispering the "attack when I say life" to people. The HoS orders him arrested for his suspicious conduct, and as I start to do so, he activates the attack. Myself, the Warden, and Hypatia are the only loyal officers in the room of about 8 people. I stunned Goodwin, and see everybody reach for various weapons (tasers, batons, revolvers), and then hit Alder and Faraj (and possibly someone else). I stunned Faraj because they drew a weapon and had just been talked to by Goodwin right before the attack. I have no idea who released the sleep toxin (it wasn't myself or Hypatia, as Hypatia detained me briefly, thinking I was involved in the attack), and I don't believe it was the HoS, considering that she was preoccupied in the other room. Just what happened from my perspective, I logged off before some of the later stuff happened due to having to go. -
I don't like subtracting Processing time from Brig time at all. Your sentence is time spent in a cell, not time spent in the Brig itself. If you are taken to processing and have to be there for 5-10 minutes because of various reasons (search turned up more stuff, unforeseen circumstances, etc.), that shouldn't be subtracted from it. Plus it'd be difficult to keep track of, and people would bitch and moan if their sentence was off by 3 minutes because it's not easy to track. EDIT: I also would think that there should be something for verbally abusing Security (which already takes a ridiculous amount of IC beating from uncooperative people), but that's just me.

Meh. The only one that makes sense is Chief Science Officer.

Ove's Head of Staff application
CampinKiller replied to Ove's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I was going to +1 this, until I saw the way you acted in OOC last night in response to Calla's downvote. IMO, it's unacceptable to go about advertising a player complaint in OOC, and trying to provoke a rise out of the person you've complained about. Sorry, but if that's the way you act when you feel wronged, then I can't say I'd support you being a head of staff. Fwiw, neutral.
